A neighbor was treating me to a Thank You dinner and I didn't want to make it something too extravagant. The front fits the definition of a hole-in-the-wall and it's a couple doors down from its sister restaurant. I think the place is only a couple years old (as of January 2020). The dining area is small and comfortable but, due to the wisdom of the waitress/hostess, it was quiet enough to enjoy our conversation without shouting over each other even with two other full tables (four at each) and it was illuminated well enough to see each other without leaning over the candle centerpiece. I don't know why they seem to want to put a sauce on all the steak offerings, but I got the filet mignon and insisted they put no sauce at all on it. I ended up with a perfect serving of the most tender cut of beef done just right so I could savor the BEEF rather than have it covered up by extraneous flavors. My wife and the couple who treated us were also very impressed with their meals. The servings were so large that we didn't have room for dessert and, in fact, I took half my meal home for another dinner which was just as delicious the next night. I've been to the top four Simi Valley steak restaurants on the Yelp list. I think this is really the best one in terms of quality, ambience, and price. I'm glad I didn't overlook this hidden gem in town and, quite frankly, I like that it's family-owned rather than part of a big chain because I like supporting my neighbors. read more

The portions are nicely sized, and the meals come with soup or salad. Unfortunately, every dish except for the surf and turf was ridiculously salted. Lobster bisque had zero pieces of lobster. We love it here and it's our go-to place when we want a high quality meal. We've never had something we didn't like and service is typically on-point. Most recently I had their special, which was braised short rib over Parmesan Garlic Risotto - it was amazing...I just about wanted to lick the bowl afterwards but my wife was there and frowns upon such things. Went here for my anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. We got crab cakes to start. Super good. I ordered the filet minon, medium. It came to me very well done. The very polite server took it back, to have it remade. We sat at a table next to the window (the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5). It was kinda gross. Cobwebs and dust that have been there for who knows how long. It was very unsettling to look at while dining. Overall, the food and service were top notch. I'm not hitting this as hard as I might. I have been here twice and my experience was ok. The food was good, not sensational but decent. The ambience was pleasant. Except for one thing. The individual who manages the bistro is odd. The first time i went he spent an undue amount of time engaged with my guest. Frankly, it was rude. The second time i went I expressed to my guest not to engage this person except what was customary. She subsequently went back with her friend a second time and related to me a story that may keep me from returning as this individual was outwardly insulting to her in their conversation. We found our Thursday night go to spot! I came across a Dinner for Two ad on Facebook for Beto's. I thought, "Wow, that seems reasonably priced, let's give it a try." The outside appearance can trick you ( it's the old Big Lots Center), but once you're inside , you feel like you're at a 5 star restaurant. There are white linens and fresh flowers, etc. The staff was super friendly and explained the process of how they came up with their menu items. Let me tell you, they put a lot of thought and good old fashioned experimenting into their dishes. It is definitely not "out of the bag". It felt very much like a farm to table style restaurant. Their Beto's salad was the bomb. You just don't get that kind of specialty item around town. Every Thursday night there is a new menu special. If you're looking for a great date night or just a really nice dinner, this is the spot. Check it out!!! We are picky foodies and this place hit the spot. I never saw my husband savor a steak so much!! I had the shrimp scampi and carrot ginger soup. So good! Oh, and their cannolis are homemade!! Can't wait see what's on next week's specialty menu!! Dined on a Sunday evening, and the pair of us were the only diners. When we walked in, we were assaulted with Pine-Sol in the air, and that seemed to be a predictor of our experience. The seafood part of this place is very sparse, only three menu items, not counting the add-on lobster tails and shrimps for steaks. That was OK because I wanted to see if they could top the list for steaks in Simi Valley. Everything was a bit disappointing. The salads were pretty wilted, and my Ceasar dressing tasted like nothing of the sort. The crab cakes are good but too spicy for some, including my partner. She had the filet and I had the New York. The steaks were good, but brought out without sides we ordered (mushrooms) and onion rings that came with the NY. The rings were very greasy, but used a great-tasting batter. The mushrooms were bland, and so was the butter on the baked potatoes. My garlic mashed potatoes were OK, but dry, and the spinach needed salt as well. I had a special pistachio cheesecake that was also very forgettable. The quality of the beef was high and preparation was good. However, overall, I was not a satisfied customer. Just went solo to M&B . First let me say, been going to Betos since they opened and everything is always great. Went to the deli and was also, very happy. As for my experience tonight at M&B, not so good. I ordered the Twin Filet with Bernaise (?), the sauce was great, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, however... the chef was very over handed with the salt, I mean so salty. I did eat most until the sauce was gone, was able to tame the salt a little with baked potato. The sautéed spinach was way to greasy, swimming in oil. The Cesar salad was nice. Went there with a party of 5, not sure how other's experiences would rate, but mine was a very generous 1 star. We started w an order of wings. I didn't know wings could be botched, but they were. They tasted like a piece of fatty boiled chicken that was toasted & smothered in buffalo sauce. For main course, I ordered their swordfish... The mashed potatoes were great... veggies were underwhelming... the swordfish was simply gross. A bait tank left out in the sun smells better than the fish I was served. We had the filet mignon, prime rib, with the included garden salad, soup and two sides each (we had the real mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables). The house pinot noir was excellent. The plain cheesecake was not overly sweet as is so often the case at other restaurants. Everything was of very high quality with ample portions and the price was very reasonable. The service was excellent. Also the music was relaxing, unlike so many restaurants which have the current trend noisy and irritating 'music' that creates the desire for using earplugs or leaving the restaurant ASAP. This was an amazing find in Simi! First off, the restaurant is tucked away in the shopping center and really cute inside. Very attentive wait staff and nice atmosphere. Bread was brought right to the table and was warm, light and fresh. They get major points for having actual anchovies available with their Caesar salad! Most places don't these days, even though anchovies are traditionally part of Caesar salad. I was delighted to learn they have scalone (a dish made from scallops and abalone), one of my favorites that I haven't had in over a decade. Delicious! They also did the vegetables fresh and to order, so I was able to order mine without squash, and they were nice and crisp, not soggy.
