Bellagreen (formerly Ruggles Green) is one of my go-to places for healthy eating in the Upper Kirby area. The food and the service are always good here. The patio is decent enough, and it faces the street. When it comes to the menu, I actually prefer Bellagreen's seasonal specials over the regular menu. Don't get me wrong, there are a few things on the regular menu that I enjoy, like the hi-protein hempanadas and the roasted corn chowder. I like their Kale Yeah and blackened shrimp salads too. However, Bellagreen takes it up another level with their seasonal specials. In the spring they had a hanger steak that was fantastic. Their current special, the brick chicken is excellent. It's cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and completely boneless despite being a half-chicken serving. The roasted vegetables on the side were a nice touch too. I had broccoli and cauliflower, and it was refreshing to have crisp, roasted vegetables instead of soggy, watery veggies. The desserts are hit and miss, but that's not really what I come to Bellagreen for. I'm not a fan of their soda options since they switched away from Maine Root and added Pepsi, but they do have good beer options. Parking is in the garage under the Gables Upper Kirby building. I've never had issues finding a space. All in all, Bellagreen is a great fast-casual dining option. read more

Wowsa! I ordered the all natural beef burger and it was delicious. Cooked med well with fresh greens and a wonderful bun. I added a side of the quinoa salad, definite recommend. It's like a mini ballet recital happening in your mouth. Brad ordered the veggie seed burger and he loved it. Sweet potato fries are a must. This is a definite recommend! read more

I've been to this place a couple of times, but this was my first time coming to the renovated location. And I must say the interior is awesome!!! Loved it. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I honestly didn't like my food. I ordered the spicy southwest house roasted chicken pasta. It tasted good, the tomato sauce was flavorful and the chicken was well cooked. But it felt like I was eating vegetables with some random pasta in it, not that I was eating pasta with vegetables in it. The ratio was off, but the taste was good. I have been coming to Bella green since they opened! The food is consistent & delicious! From salads to apps to pizza to entrees I love this menu. There's always something on the menu that catches my eye and makes my mouth water! The outdoor patio is my favorite part of the restaurant.... I can bring my dog out there and enjoy dinner! The staff is helpful when ordering and often make suggestions I wouldn't normally think about ! They have a nice wine selection I usually get the rose . This place has gone down hill. My salmon was over cooked and the salad under dressed. Seems like they don't really care about Covid either. The Heights location is WAY better. ( I ordered the same thing here as I did there.) I like the menu... They have lots of healthy options. Also, I like the location and that they are open later than most places... HOWEVER, THE MEAT & FISH WAS POOR QUALITY/NOT COOKED WELL. We ordered the Seasonal Salmon with vegetables and rice - it was dry and flavorless. We also ordered the Beef Short Rib from their seasonal menu. It was 85% fat.... And had very little actual meat. (I tried both of these items at the Heights location and they were WAY BETTER FLAVOR, QUALITY AND PORTION SIZE.) My friend and I noticed the portions were very small. We were still hungry so we ordered the Bison Burger. It was HORRIBLE. PROBABLY THE WORST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. The meat was dry and very gamey and tasted honestly like lamb. Also, I noticed there was no buffalo sauce... Which is what I was hoping for. We were worried we might get food poisoning from it so we didn't even eat it.... We were really disappointed! read more

Holy moly! I've had Ruggles Green a few times, but I hadn't necessarily been blown away with my menu selection. I've tried the veggie burger which has a crispy chikn type exterior and is made from a multitude of pureed veggies. Pretty tasty, but not my #1 veggie burger. I've tried the veggie tacos and they were tasty as well! Everything was delicious but I knew that I hadn't yet ordered the best item on the menu....until today. If you're vegan, you HAVE TO get the veggie wrap. I know what you're thinking. Why would I get a tortilla wrapped around veggies? That doesn't sound exciting, right? Wrong! The wrap has mushrooms that are flavored with the most amazing spices (those of which I do not know) as well as a multitude of sauteed veggies. There is a ton of spinach, but honestly the other flavors in the wrap mask the taste of spinach which is good for me. :) Seriously, order the wrap whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or an omnivore! read more

Sadly, after many positive experiences, I had a very negative experience that will preclude me from ordering food from Bellagreen for the foreseeable future. I have celiac disease and ordered the gluten free minestrone with quinoa pasta via DoorDash, which is labeled "gluten free". Prior to this experience, I would have said that Bellagreen was one of my most trusted restaurants in the Houston area for dealing with allergies. Unfortunately, when I had finished the container, there was a spaghetti noodle (quinoa pasta was macaroni shaped) right on the bottom of the container. I had ordered the soup as I figured it had the lowest chance for cross-contamination. Apparently I was wrong. read more

Pretty disappointed by Ruggles Green when Ruggles Black is so good. I ordered from Favor because I didn't want to leave the house one night. I can't speak to the environment since I didn't go to the restaurant. I had the spinach dip as an appetizer and the kale caesar salad as my entree. The spinach dip was ok, and the pita was good. It was the best thing about the meal, but still not stellar. The salad was terrible. They say it's a chipotle caesar dressing, but it tasted like really bad sort of flavored ranch. I didn't eat it. I don't think I'll be back to try the actual restaurant. Skip this place is you can and try some of the other great restaurants in City Center. read more

This is a great quick lunch spot when you're wanting something fresh and somewhat healthy. All of the salads are awesome, but they are huge. The desserts are also incredible if you feel like splurging! The White Chocolate Bread Pudding is my favorite. The parking garage at this location is a bit cramped, but it's nice that they have covered parking, unlike the Heights location which has very limited parking. read more

I have been going to this company since it was Ruggles Bakery in the Rice village. They have since closed the bakery but open several restaurants. The must have is the white chocolate bread pudding. It is by far my favorite dessert. When you order it they throw it in the oven and top it with vanilla ice cream with a side of raspberry sauce. It is amazing. You will thank me for this. read more

Best salad I've ever had was from Ruggles Green; every time I go, I have the shrimp salad, in which the shrimp is grilled and seasoned to perfection and the greens are crispy and fresh. You can tell when ingredients are good! I love the delicious combinations of flavors that make up their dishes. It's not all just caesar on the menu. Parking can be a little bit of a pain, especially in the evenings... but I enjoy eating here so much, it hardly bothers me. read more

9/15/217: So Bruce Molsan used some black market seafood and the new owners of Ruggles Green wanted to get out from under any shadow of impropriety that would affect their business. What they need to do is get their act together. I got the chicken pizza last night and when I bit into a piece my upper left incisor hurt like a stab in the face. A bone, yes! a bone in my pizza! From the chicken which was so poorly inspected but still served. Further, the new owners do not have Maine Root soda machine but some other cough syrup tasting liquid that is nausea inducing. Car was broken into in the river oaks location. Not a safe location to go out to eat. On top of that the restaurant closed not caring in leaving us alone in the parking lot at night! They didn't even cared about giving us water when they saw my friends and I crying. Strangers were more helpful than them! We lost over 5k worth in stuff for a burger that did not even tasted good that day. Never coming back here again. They never did anything about the incident . Whenever I'm in Houston I always scout out places where me (carnivore) and my vegan cousin can dine together, and this place was it. We sat out on the beautiful patio and shared a kale salad which was a combination of tangy and sweet. I believe the salad also comes with cheese but because she is a Vegan the were more than willing to tweak it just for her. She also got a pasta, the name of it escapes me, but I believe it was the chicken pasta without the chicken. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with fries. Let me just say the fries were fried to perfect. As a carnivore it was so much to choose from on the menu so I'll definitely be back, Next up, the Lamb burger. read more

Oh Ruggles, I could go on and on. 10/10 on taste, portion size, consistency, and GF/vegetarian friendly options. It may not be my favorite restaurant in Houston, but it's definitely my go to, and I love bringing out-of-towners here. I've tried over half the menu, but my favorite dish is the turkey lettuce wrap. It's technically an appetizer, but the portions are huge. It's seasoned perfectly and is a great standalone dish that also happens to be really healthy. I don't eat cheese (I know, I know), but everyone who goes to Ruggles adores the quinoa mac and cheese. I also love their pizzas and burgers/wraps. I'm a salad lover, but I think Ruggles has the most improvement for growth in this part of the menu. They're good, but if you're only going to order one thing, don't get a salad. The desserts are good but not great across the board. Ruggles is well known for having great bread pudding. I also enjoy their chocolate coffee cake and carrot cake (both can be made GF). I've been here many times and had many dishes and have never been disappointed. It's a fantastic spot for a quick meal with good, healthy ingredients. The quinoa Mac n cheese is delicious and a wonderful alternative to traditional Mac n cheese. I absolutely recommend it. The turkey meatballs are unique and hardy. For folks who can't eat beef (like me), they're a refreshing alternative. I loved that they were so comforting and warming. Ordinarily folks don't make turkey versions of things taste as good as the beef original. But I think they pulled this off well. Finally: loved their pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni tasted so natural and clean. Fantastic cheese and crust. Everything you want a pizza to be. I really like their Spinach salad but not a fan of their tomato soup. I also ordered grilled chicken to add on top of the salad, but the chicken is quite dry and stiff. Don't order delivery directly from here. They used to have a great in-house delivery team but now it's third party (seems to mainly be Uber direct) and they do an atrocious job. Pizzas show up with toppings slid off, burgers show up without fries, and food shows up cold. Also it takes 3x as long to show up as the website will tell you. We used to order all the time but no more. It's a bummer because the food is actually good when it's right and arrives something resembling on time. The food itself would be 4-5 star, and the employees are really nice. The delivery issues are just too much, and management does not care about the issues either. So until management cares about customer service and puts systems in place to deliver it like the employees clearly want to, 2 stars is generous. read more
