Gross gross gross. Came here for a group event and I'm glad it was paid for by my group, because I would never set foot in this establishment in the first place. I trust my gut whole-heartedly and should've not even come here. First, they have that rule where if your whole entire party isn't there, they can't seat you. I've never liked this rule because your entire wait depends on the slowest person in your group. Nevertheless we were seated after a long wait when our whole party arrived. Host was nice. Chef seemed less than excited to be there......like he was called in on his day off or something. He definitely was not as entertaining as the other chefs around us. He coughed a few times while cooking for us which I thought was pretty nasty. Again, another reason why I think he was called in on his day off--sick. Lots of oil, LOTS of garlic butter and spices go into everything they cook in front of you. Glob after glob after glob. I felt my arteries tightening up. Not a whole lot of veggies were doled our to our group. I counted 4 zucchini chunks on my plate. How kind. Noodles tasted like the burned oil he doused then with. I tried putting some sauce on it to taste better, but nope. And then came mine and my friends salmon......I was starving at this point. When he finally dished it to us, I smeared some tartar sauce on top and took my first cut. If you love salmon, you know it flakes off easily. Oooooo how I love that first flake. But this one did not do that. Oh well, I tried a bite and then another. And the more I dug into this filet, I realized the core was getting darker and darker. So I hacked it in half and saw raw fish inside. How tasty. My friend checked hers after a few questionable bites--same. So we sent them back. Host was nice about it. Our chef was already at another table cooking more undercooked pleasantries I presumed. He offered us both another salmon. Sure, why not?! 2nd one came boxed up and by that time I already lost my appetite. Have my box to a friend at the table. When the filet was taken home, the 2nd filet was also raw. Both meals were taken off our final receipt which is what I think was the most responsible thing to do. I will not be back and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

We attended Benihana for our 2 year anniversary and every staff member we interacted with were very kind (January 14, 2024 around 8 pm) especially our chef Diego! He was super funny and stood out from all the other chefs we have had in the past! I would rate it lower than that if I could , I went to Benihana Chandler on 6/14/2024 with my family for a father's day celebration. To start our reservation time was at 8:45 , we got say at 9:00pm, no biggie , no complaints there . The server then comes out and gets everyone's drink orders , then waits a whole 30/40 minutes until he comes back to place our entire order, our order didn't get put in until 9:46pm , our cook didn't come out still for another 30 minutes or so, so the wait time to even get the food started was extremely long but that was no biggie we were there to have a great time with no complaints or so we thought. The cook we had (Carlos) was an amazing man , he treated us well and did all that he could do for us to have a great experience that night , at the end of the show we tipped our cook off and waited on our server , when our server Ramone came out he first asked us all what ice cream we wanted , and we proceeded to give him the list of ice creams we wanted due to it being apart of the meal we ordered , he then went and put our order in but this is the part where it went all down hill.... after putting the ice cream orders in he brought the tickets back and he had got all of our tickets wrong three times but the third time is the charm right? After a few of us paid our bills were were exiting the building one by one , when it got down to my last siblings one in which paid cash she was waiting on her change back from her $100 dollar bill she gave him, ramone stated that he was not giving her the change back because he must tip the chef in which we had already done , then when my other sister was paying with her card he stated to her that there needs to be an 80 dollar tip total cause he had to tip the chef 10% or he would then have to pay out of pocket to the chef which in my opinion is not our problem we came to eat and have a good time , our bill total for the table was close to 900$ so after he didn't give my sister her money back he then told them that we couldn't get our ice cream because we "owed " him some money in which we did not owe any thing . He told the two to come outside and get me and I advised my siblings that I would not be going in there and instead I would talk to a manager the following day due to it already being 12:30am that we were leaving . And I know that if I would've went back inside police would've been called . Follow up to the next day I contacted Benihana and spoke with Jasmine , I explained to her everything that happened and she was in shock , she stated that she apologizes and that she will have to talk to the gm when he gets in , she advised me that no one is obligated to tip any one and that it's against policy to discuss how they have to pay out because that's not the customers problem. I realized I never updated this review. Just an update, I went to the website, they put me in touch with the manager, who disputed my claims and asked a few questions. I answered all questions, showed screenshots as evidence, time stamps, names, everything. He then stopped answering my emails. He was VERY RUDE, EXTREMELY RUDE and would dispute everything I said. Why would I waste my time to make up a story? I wanted your staff to be trained better. Also BTW the 4 hour wait was literally given to us 4 hours before closing time. So in other words, a table would be available at closing time. This place and this management is a joke. I wish I could give it negative stars. read more

We have been to different Benihanas all around the US and we had the absolute best time at this location. We waited a little for our reservation time, but Janelle instantly made it worth the wait! She was SO funny and her food was insanely delicious. We came in late and being her last table of the night, her energy was so amazing and welcoming. I took my daughter here on a date. She is 7. She had never been to a hibachi grill before so it was something fun for us to do. Our hibachi cook was awesome. Fun. Entertaining. Social. He was 5 star. Our server was average. The wait time was long once we got seated. The food was totally mediocre. I think Benihana is liek the Olive Garden of hibachi grills. We will NEVER go back here! There were 8 of us at dinner. Our family alone of 4 people was $300 and the food was horrible! It started with the chef leaving egg shells in the eggs and then he burnt the eggs for the fried rice. So we paid an extra $6 p/person to have chicken fried rice and it was so bad hardly anyone ate it. Rubbery and overcooked eggs and unseasoned chicken. Usually they are constantly seasoning the food. Our chef never used the salt and pepper. The chicken for entrees was undercooked for a couple of us and again NO seasoning. So disappointing. Definitely do not recommend this place. Attempted to order ahead online for pickup and not sure why some locations have this option while others do not...assuming some are ghost kitchens and don't have front of house staff (Mesa location) which is 5 min from my house. We have a gift card and attempted to use it but didn't see the option to use it for online orders. So we called into the chandler location (since take out was an option online) and explained that the website didn't have an option for gift card redemption and he said they dont take orders over the phone. Bonus points: He even asked what we wanted for our order. Why ask if you can't take the phone in orders?!? Essentially, we would have to drive 30 mins to the Chandler location, place the take out order and wait another 30 mins, then drive back another 30 min just to use the giftcard. I'm not a fan of leaving 1-star reviews but since we didn't even get to dine here with no website ordering for take out and lack of customer sevice, I feel it's much deserved. Love the person who took our order who I believe is the manager. 4 stars just because... it took a long while for my order to arrive, an hour to be exact. While the other 2 that I was with got their lunch boat already. The food was ofcourse delicious. Those people who did have something bad to say are I'm sure just scottsdale snobs who are used to people waiting on them hand and foot. I came with my husband and our children for my husbands birthday and we had a good time. There were pros and cons. Pros: Our chef was a delight! Very talented and funny. The food was really good, everything was cooked perfectly. They came out to sing to my hubby for his birthday and one lady was so loud and so dramatic with the song that she drowned out everyone else and we were rolling. We all had a great time. Cons: We had reservations and still waited to be seated for almost 30 minutes. After we were seated we were served our drinks within a few minutes but we had no chef for almost another 30 minutes. We paid $200 for a meal and I would expect that based on that pricing that the service we would have gotten would be like walking down the red carpet. We waited a total of an hour just to get started after we had reservations. Overall, we had a good experience but because of the price of eating here I just expect way more. If we do go back again it would be without the family, maybe just a date night. It was very clear to us that the waiter how no idea what he was doing , was sloppy in his service and had a sassy attitude. We spoke to the "manager" twice about the awful service, it did not help our situation. We got our dessert at 9:30. This was a marathan meal of patience for the adults and children and the food was just OK and of course the waiter got the order wrong. Were we suprised, not at all. This place is amazing and we eat out a lot! Okay! We had reservations at 1:30 for a party of 8 for lunch and still had about a 20 minute wait. To be fair though two of our party were late but still our table should have been ready when they arrived. It wasn't. Once we were seated the experience began and an amazing experience it was. We were surprised the lunch prices weren't as much as we expected. Service was excellent. We were entertained by the Japanese cook preparing our food at our table. He had a super personality, amazing skills and knew what he was doing when it came to preparing delicious food. The food? It was absolutely delicious. Whoever made the ginger dressing and ginger sauce today September 6th 2023 is making it wrong, it is loaded with soy sauce and tastes nothing like what it's supposed to. This review is strictly based on the improperly made sauce and dressing. Everything else is fine, service is great. Please correct a problem that is deterring people from returning. Stick to the recipe or whoever makes the dressing on Friday and Saturday have them make it earlier in the week. You know who you are and you know you are not making it right. "First impression is a lasting impression." It was our 25th anniversary, my first time ever at Benihana's, and my first time ever eating a filet minon. Our hispanic chef did not display the entertainment (as advertised) and was uninformed on how to cook steaks. My filet minon was cut into cubes (like carne asada), smashed down with the spatula (not seared in butter), and over cooked well past medium rare! No entertainment at all, except for a volcano of onion rings at the end of the grilling process which was lit on fire but then thrown away; what was the purpose of wasting food that could have been served with our steaks? The rest of the food was good, but it'll be quite a while before I eat at Benihana's again! It definitely was a "lasting impression" for our 25th anniversary! read more

The General Manager reached out after my previous feedback and we agreed to give the restaurant another chance. Bad days happen, and this second chance was well worth it and the service experience was significantly better. Our reservation time was honored and we were promptly seated on time. Our waitress Taylor was very friendly and helpful. Our chef was also entertaining and fun. The food (I had the Ocean Treasure, my dining companions had Land & Sea, and the Benihana Special) was cooked well and seasoned just about right. It was a bit difficult to hear our waitress or the chef at times under the sound of the hood, but it was overall an enjoyable experience and much improved over the previous experience I had here. I would consider bringing friends here again for dinner and a show. The prices are a bit high considering what you get food-wise but when you factor in that it's dinner and a show, I feel like the prices are reasonable. read more
