This is really good comfort food. Breakfast is always solid. At least as good as any typical diner in the area. For lunch / dinner the broasted chicken is delicious. The ribs are good. The burgundy beef tips on Wednesday are especially good. And the chicken Benny, essentially chicken tenders in beer batter, are much better than average. Also we usually get carry out; in winter the drive through pickup window is a nice option. Just ask if it will still be open if calling after 7:30 pm or so. read more

We had planned and paid the down payment chose the food and cake for my mother's 80th birthday party here. Six days before they contacted us that another party was accidentally booked at the same time on the same day. After we had already sent out custom invitations, people coming from out of town and had to spend an entire day to find another location,contact everyone on our list as to the change in location, and another caterer. Good service and clean interior. Potatoes in the skillet were frozen, the mushrooms were canned, the hot chocolate had beautiful presentation but no taste. The cinnamon roll French toast was tasty but dry. The food wasn't served hot but barely warm. Overall the ingredient quality was lacking, so while nothing was "bad", I have to believe there are better options. read more

My mother is elderly, and she likes coming here. So I dine here with her, and do not have the same feelings about this place. Everything has a funny taste....and I do mean everything. From the bread, to the tomatoes to the complimentary beer (yuk). Even the bread sticks taste kinda funny. Maybe they have too many items on the menu, and it's difficult to keep everything fresh. Either way, I will keep coming back here with my mother, because she feels she gets a bang for her buck. read more

the place takes awhile to make the food but when you get the food it tastes pretty bad. I don't understand why they take their time to make bad food. They have good service though. The workers are nice. I look over and see them sometimes talking to their older customers and they're always laughing and looking as if they're having fun. But service doesn't make the food better. Stay Away for Party Rentals!!! Bad Service & Management Had a party there on 9-27-13 & was overcharged from menu prices!! Also, bar closes at 8:30, so if you have the room till 10pm, you get NO beverages!! Waitress service sucked, no dirty dishes were picked up, but the food was taken away quickly, so they could re-sell it no doubt! Terrible, will never book again! read more

I sat at the bar and ordered the Benny's Breakfast. 3 eggs, choice of potatoes. choice of meat and toast. Good came quick and was good. I had a not so well experience at benny's cafe the service was fine but the food is mediocre the benny's skillet was very bland an did not have enough meat in the skillet it had a few chopped up pieces of gyro meat in it it was very disappointing. Excellent for breakfast. lunch, or dinner. Prices may be slightly higher than some other family restaurants but the quality is considerably higher and dinners include a free glass of wine or beer and dessert. The menu is huge including many breakfast plates served all day, excellent sandwiches, the usual American dinner entrees, stir fry, Italian meals, and even a few ethnic Albanian dishes. The Friday fish fry is excellent. We have been to this fine establishment many times without a miss. From home made soup to dessert, everything is delicious. For value and flavor, Benny's can't be beat. read more

living here on the south side for over past 20 years, went here years ago, it was good food, good service, but waiter kept circling table while being on a date, it was irritating, did not go back til 2020. i believe it was in march before all of wisconsin was locked down. i decided to give them a try being alone at the time. walked in and was seated in a very crowded bar area, not relaxing at all. i ordered very expensive walleye on the menu. i have eaten great walleye in the milwaukee area for the past 40 years or so along with companions. it was the worst walleye i have ever eaten in my life! they were extremely busy, and i saw someone approach the man in charge, he was not too happy, so i decided i did not want to even deal with him there!. the waitress was the high point of the evening, very friendly and accomodating, the rest of the food was average, nothing to write home about to others. i advise everyone not to go there unless probably for a breakfast, but melrose down the street has them totally beat with their fantastic food entree's. that walleye tasted like it had been in the freezer for years, $17.99 it was a total waste of my money! they lost business with this business woman and all my contacts.....will never go back, not a place i want to give my money to do business with them!!! read more

I ordered the open faced turkey sandwich, with mashed potatoes and a house salad (instead of soup I was up sold- and paid extra for 2 slices of tomato, and a lettuce spring mix). The gravy on the sandwich was crayon yellow! The meal was obviously microwaved. I do not suggest this location for recently prepared foods. My fiancé ordered an orange chicken dinner that tasted like the mall food courts mandarin to go!! read more

Went there today for a special birthday lunch - my mom turned 95 today. Food was ok, not the issue. The issue was that the waitress spilled hot coffee & mashed potatoes on my mom! I know it was an accident, but other than apologizing, the incident was downplayed. My poor mother was mortified, to say the least. She is fragile & could have easily been burned. I talked to the hostess about it when I paid the bill. Again, a simple apology. Don't most reputable restaurants at least make an effort to make amends? Comp the meal? Offer a future meal? Something? My mom's entree was only $10, so we weren't looking to get rich here. It's the principal. I had to take my mom home like she was a toddler - a complete mess. My family reserved this place 2 months ago for an April 23 party for my birthday. A week before the party they were informed that they had double booked the party room. 40+ people were invited, many from out of town. My kids had to scramble to find another place and a caterer (they had an Italian restaurant from Greendale cater) We will never step foot in Benny's again and caution others read more

I go here a few times a month with my elderly mother. They have a senior menu which includes wine or beer, soup or salad and dessert. My Mom always gets one of these entree options and is very pleased. I love the salads, specials or wraps. The food is always served pipping hot and we have always had very good service. My only complaint is with how the hostess seats folks. We usually go at a time that is not as busy, but we are always seated by other customers. I have requested a table with more privacy and yet the next table seated will be right next to us. My Mom has dementia and it is both distracting to her and most likely frustrating to customers put in the booth or table next to us. I attempted to explain why giving customers their space is important. She said she does this because of the servers sections and did not seem willing to understand why customers do not want to be seated together. I suggested that they find options for seating that allows for a better dining experience and not what is easier. Last Sunday when we went the entire restaurant only had a few tables with customers yet she sat us in a booth directly behind one of the only tables with someone at it. I asked if we could move down so we had space. She left one booth between us however the very next people in were seated there and the next group in was put at a table within a few feet of us.....while the rest of the restaurant was nearly empty!!!! The group she sat next to us was a VERY loud group and the folks behind us were having conversations and burping that we did not need/want to be part of!!! The Hostess's reaction when I brought the concern up leads me to think she will not be making any changes.....this will cause us to go elsewhere to dine. read more

Caramel apple French toast was amazing! I've never had gyro meat in an omelette before, but it was great.

Delicious cheesy, meat lovers omelet. Attentive waitstaff, trying to refill my coffee every so often. Nice!!!

Take note: DO NOT PLAN A PARTY HERE! We had 45 people coming for an event that they cancelled on us 6 days in advance. We had the room booked (or so we thought) 2 months in advance and they didn't realize their error until the week of our party. Came in for breakfast. The service was excellent, we were seated immediately and taken to a booth. The food was also good, everything was cooked perfectly. The reason I bumped a star off is because the bathroom had to of been 50 degrees and they had no warm water. Kind of pety, but after I left the restroom I was chilled for the rest of my breakfast. read more

My husband and I have been customers at benny's for about three years (up until a couple weeks ago). We have always had great service! Unfortunately the food has been declining rapidly. We went in for breakfast and were a little disappointed, our eggs were almost raw and the hashbrowns were extremely greasy. I've never really said anything before about the food but was getting tired of paying for food that was less than mediocre. I was very apologetic when I asked for the eggs, mine and my husband's, to be remade and my hasbrowns as well. The waitress was more than accommodating, however, the manager walked up and said "it's always something with you guys, isnt it?". I was appalled! I asked if it was my fault that I prefer not to get salmonella from raw eggs or a coronary from all the grease in my potatoes? what ever happen to customers service? I have been a great customer for 3 years and got kicked out because the cooks didn't know how to cook some simple eggs! Absolutely disgusted at the lack of customer appreciation! read more
