They have the best grandma slices I've ever had. One day I tried a different one and got a vodka slice. I got THE WORST food poisoning of my life. My coworker was with me and got a chicken and bacon slice and she ALSO got food poisoning the same day. We both were throwing up all night and had the runs for 3 days. I spoke with other coworkers to warn them about this place and they told me they've also had bad experiences with getting sick from eating their pizza. I used to eat at Ben's Pizzeria many years ago and I didn't think it was anything crazy back then. I decided to give it another try and was disappointed. This review is based solely on their regular slice. Original cheese slice ($2.75) - The slice looked like it was going to be an amazing slice out of the oven. However, the slice was very greasy and there was way too much cheese on it. The pizza was drooping down and falling down the slice. Every bite was oozing with thick cheese and it was difficult to cut the cheese from my mouth. It tasted like I was eating string cheese in every bite. read more

For as long as I can remember, Ben's Pizzeria is where my family has gotten their pizza. Any special events, parties, birthdays, graduations, you name it--we always bought a couple Ben's pizzas with different toppings and all the relatives were thrilled with their food. To summarize, Ben's pizza (when baked fresh) epitomizes what it means (at least in my mind) to be the perfect Brooklyn-style pizza, and I would know--being born and raised in Brooklyn (well actually, I moved to Brooklyn when I was two but.. close enough). My main suggestion: don't buy by the slice. Order a custom pizza--whole. The slices or rolls they'll warm up for you aren't good, they've been sitting out and drying out all day so they're not fresh, and they can't compare to the food this pizzeria is capable of producing. Therefore make sure you order a whole pie with custom toppings (a la extra mushrooms, breaded chicken, olives, etc etc.. whatever floats your boat) to ensure that your pizza will be made to order. When this pizza is done right, the crust is TO DIE FOR, the pie isn't over-sauced (which I prefer, but they have no problem adding sauce if you ask), the cheese is flavorful, and the toppings are always fresh, vibrant, and plentiful. The owner is nice, the employees are good at what they do, and the prices are decent and well-worth the food you get. read more

What a great neighborhood pizza place! I had the Grandma Style Pizza and it was done perfectly. Crust was crisp with lots of cheese and just the right amount of sauce. They also had more traditional slices with tons of different toppings including the buffalo chicken pizza another reviewer mentioned. I came here on a weekday afternoon as school was getting out, and it was cool to see the owner talking to the local kids. One of our go to places for basic Brooklyn Pizza. You can't get this in Omaha, Cape Cod or even Long Island! Tender yet crispy crust with flavorful tomato sauce and wonderful cheese. Also try their Sauteed Spinach, it is fabulous! Delivery takes about 35 to 45 minutes and don't look for a coupon or a break, there isn't any. read more

This is NOT the one around NYU campus, that one that gets sliced up with patrons coming from all sides of it's open design more than the pizzas. This is the quiet one in the middle of Bay Ridge. I have to agree with Erik C.: too much sauce can ruin a slice. If you can't make the best sauce, the cheese will always help you out in a pinch. What I love, and not every pizzeria does this, is buffalo chicken pizza. They have two kinds of chicken pizza, one just chicken, one with tomatoes and such. Lots of other good choices: stuffed eggplant, stuffed portabello, calzones, sausage and pepper heroes (not too bad, lots of marinara and the peppers were soft and tastier than the sliced sausage), and here was the kicker: decent chicken wings, WITH decent fries (kind of a poor man's Wendy's fries), for 5 BUCKS. That's it. The place has tables to sit down, but it's great on a sunny Bay Ridge day to sit on the block and chow down, or bring to Status Q while you're watching the Pats beat whichever team they are playing. The great thing about this place is it had more bikes than staff members. It was kind of amusing. You can picture them having to do a delivery, and the guy going, "Which bike do I want for this trip?" in the most whimsical fashion possible. read more

It's a typical neighborhood pizzeria. The eggplant parm hero is amazing. The rollatini is pretty good, but I found it a little dry...not enough sauce! The guys there are friendly without being creepy, and there are lots of tables and lots of room. I've never had the pizza, but it looks really good in the case. I ordered Rigatoni a la vodka with mushrooms via Seamless and when I get my order, there is no mushrooms. I call Bens Pizza, tell them I asked for mushrooms with my Rigatoni a la Vodka and they tell me "Sweetie mushrooms is extra this is why we no give to you." Umm I know mushrooms is extra and it would be nice if you just added the mushrooms to the meal and just add to receipt or call to let me know that mushrooms are extra like other places do. We grabbed a slice a few weeks back, it was pretty good, so I figured I'd order a pie and a few extras for my daughters birthday. I have to say this was a complete waste of money! The pie isn't anything special. I really feel it's mediocre, at best. I think picking a slice up and ordering a pie are two completely different things. The dough is chewy, cheese is bland, just not the greatest. For pickup, The slice gets cooked twice, so dough isn't chewy cheese gets cooked more so flavors intensify. I also ordered mozzarella sticks, which are great but if your pizza sucks wth is the point! Also ordered eggplant rollatini, it's disgusting!!! I've never had a more horrible dish. The eggplant is so thin, sauce is horrible! And it's just plain ricotta in the middle. It was just gross. We got garlic knots with a side of marinara. Sauce sucks. Garlic knots were really good.
