Came here after a long day at work. I had the: Beef teriyaki - the flavor was really good. The marinade was delicious. But what really turned me off was how chewy the meat was, especially given how thin the slices were. My jaw muscles were getting such a workout that I actually considered giving up and not finishing it. Unfortunately for my jaw, my hunger won and I finished everything with a sore jaw. The salad dressing that came with the salad was good. The service was as expected. TL/DR: the beef was way too chewy. I don't recommend it. I don't know about this place. Friday evening looks to me like skeleton crew. No Sake! No table service. Loud pop music. 15.00 for tempura. Tempura was under cooked. Stringy yellow asparagus tempura. They hold way back on the condiments way way back. It's like a big giant cardboard box no artwork no pictures. I would upgrade to 3 1/2 stars if I could but I don't think 4! I wouldn't say it's good or bad here. Prices are about normal, maybe about $2 more then most sushi spots. Solid and reliable. Friendly but efficient. Nothing magical and nothing bad. Perfect for a little two to four person business lunch.

I used to really like bento box because there rolls were affordable and the food usually didn't take too long. However, the past couple experiences I've had here were not the best. First, the servers rarely checked on our table and I sat there most of the time not seeing any servers walk past any of the tables and with empty water cups. They also forgot an item that I ordered. Another time, I came by last time with a small group of friends about an hour and a half before they were closing (according to yelp). The employees proceeded to tell us that they were no longer taking any orders or seating anyone because they are closing soon. The hours shown online and at the store were an hour away from when we had arrived and there was no other indications that there was special hours to closing early. I've always came around that time so not sure if you guys need to update your hours because I wasted a 30 minute drive to grab a quick bite to satisfy my cravings. read more

I've always had a great experience with this location until just recently. I made a phone order for one thai chili bowl. Once I got there and paid I was surprised about the price. For one bowl is was $16.31. I have never paid that much. In addition, the cashier girl who rang me up was rude. I asked if they were accepting dine in and she said "not yet" with an attitude, but I went in a week before and saw customers dining in. This was a rare occasion of an unsatisfactory situation. Disappointing experience. Called to place my order to go and mentioned that I had a crab and shrimp allergy and could only have vegetable tempura with my meal. I got there, and had the lady at the front tried to argue with me and try to convince me to take the food as is, multiple times after I told her I had a severe allergy. Bento Box is a starving-on-the-budget college student's hotspot around Sacramento. I highly recommend Bento Box for your regular sushi fix. They have happy hour all day long (or so it was the last time I came) where rolls on the menu are half off, hands rolls are 10% off and dibble dollar priced rice plates, Korean food and rice plates I got lion king, rainbow rolls, salmon skin hand roll and seared salmon nigiri the last time I came. Each dish were really good, especially the salmon skin hand roll. I'm glad that I have found a close place near by to satiate my cravings for sushi! Their sake bomb is $2 and goes very well with the sushi. I leave Bento Box satisfied and got my sushi craving fixed! read more

The food is good, but don't use their online ordering!! I ordered and paid online from their website link. I got the message after paying to wait for email from restaurant. Never got the email. I called the restaurant and they said they don't get those orders and the $ would be refunded to my account. ALSO notice I was OVER CHARGED!! I went to the restaurant to order and showed them the over charge the employee was surprised. I ordered, got the receipt and again checked my account that night and again I was OVER charged. While at the restaurant waiting for my food a lady came in, she had ordered online and was asking about her refund of her $$. Well it wasn't my best Sushi experience. I went to this spot based off a recommendation. I won't be asking them for any more recommendations. This was the second location that was recommended to me. I arrived around 12:45, clearly after the lunch rush, but service was almost non existent!? I ordered a sushi roll and their special of the day bento box, teriyaki chicken and potstickers. Chicken was well done, the pot stickers were... fried not steamed. That's ok, not great. The hardly asked if everything was ok and the sushi arrived long after the special was served. The roll was poorly rolled. It came apart when I picked it up with my chop sticks. But powered through it. Never received my glass of water but I did get my tea. I enjoy coming to Bento Box for their happy hour sushi after 8:30 PM which all the rolls on that menu is HALF OFF! It's fresh, tasty and cheap! I love the rolls they have to ofter but it sucks because they're not on the regular menu so you'll have to wait for happy hour! I come here often because It's close to my Yoga studio so after yoga we'll stop by here for a quick late night dinner. I love their cucumber salad it's so light, tasty and refreshing. I always have to order a side of it with my dinner. Whenever I drop by for dinner with my family we always get the Deluxe Bento Box with Calamari, Sesame Chicken and Spicy Prawns and of course a couple of rolls from the happy hour menu. Usually we order about 5 rolls from the happy hour menu, a bento box deluxe, cucumber sushi and fountain drinks for about $45 only! I had the crepes twice at Bento Box, but it was decent nothing worth coming back for in my opinion. Other then that the foods good and cheap! I go to this bento or order take out at least once a week. Their chicken teriyaki is probably the best I've had anywhere. The service is pleasant and quick. They've never messed my order up which is a really common thing elsewhere as I have an allergy to avocado and it's in pretty much everything. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy, their lunch specials are a great deal, and it's a down to earth place in a prime location. Can't go wrong here. I was invited here with a group of co-workers for lunch because Bento Box was able to hold a reservation for a large group. I was glad to see a large outdoor patio area in front of the restaurant. There were no umbrellas but there were trees providing some shade. Upon entering the restaurant, the atmosphere felt like that of a fast food joint. The decor, floor, and tables didn't feel like I was at a Japanese restaurant. From seeing the workforce and sushi chefs, it was quickly apparent to me that this was not an Authentic Japanese restaurant. The menu was typical. I ordered a Bento Box with Chicken Teriyaki, Mixed Tempura, and 4 pieces of sushi called the Sunrise which is a Dynamite roll with Sliced Smoked Salmon. A dynamite roll includes: Crab meat, avocado, cucumber, prawn tempura, and masago. The pricing was $4 lower than competitors which is the reason I gave them 2 stars vs. 1 star. I took 2 bites of my chicken and couldn't eat the rest due to the rubbery 3 day old taste. The Sushi was not fresh and I was lucky not to have food poison after eating there. The best part of lunch was the Tempura Shrimp and vegetables; they were as expected and in line with previously fried Costco bought tempura. If you're a state or county worker they do provide discounts so make sure to ask. I was surprised that this type of eatery is still surviving in Sacramento when so many other better Japanese Food options exist. I couldn't ever see myself coming back here but if you're within walking distance and heavily crave a non-authentic fast-food Japanese food then eat at Bento Box. read more

This place is surprisingly good! I have been by a handful of times. Lots of bento box combos as the name would suggest. The Thai chicken is really more like a sweet, spicy sauced chicken. I was expecting something with lemon grass, but no matter, I liked it. They use that sweet spicy combo on a lot of their dishes, so if you don't like that kind of thing it might not be for you. The spicy fried calamari uses a similar sauce, as well as a bunch of stuff that is labeled "spicy." Their bento boxes are pretty big! Usually comes with a heap of salad, cucumber salad, your main entree, rice, and a fortune cookie. I got a roll last time to share with a friend and the pan fried udon noodles. I thought it was kind of strange that the noodle dish came with white rice, but it worked great! The noodles were saucy, so the extra rice helped to soaked up that saucy goodness. :) The roll we got was great! It was called the Burn Out and it has seared scallops on top! A must try for people who like scallops. Definitely not authentically Japanese, but if you're looking for a quick, tasty lunch or dinner, this is the spot. The ambiance is alright (it is in a strip mall, so what do you expect?), with large TVs and a sushi bar. Wish they would hurry up and get that liquor license! Chicken and rice for the kids came out after the adults were finished already. The adults sushi was old . Chewy shrimp and seaweed you almost choke on. The rolls had zero sauce and was bland . When asking for sauce the waitress rolled her eyes at me. I had to flag a waiter down for my check . Paid. Of course I tipped but just 5. Once I saw the girl behind the counter making fresh crepes (I mean pouring the dough on a crepe maker and swirling it around) I had to have one... Her skills were impressive, I found it mesmerizing. We sat at the bar, they have a decent wine selection and our server was very good. The place was definitely better quality than what I was expecting from a place called "Bento Box" (which for me conjures up images of cheapo Japanese food, tiny tasteless pieces of overcooked pork tonkatsu with cabbage salad and rice). This place was nice, unpretentious. What it lacks in ambience it makes up for in service & price. My husband took me here on Saturday for a lunch date. First, it was pouring buckets of rain outside, and parking was a jerk as it usually is in downtown, but the food made up for it tremendously. First and foremost, our waiter was amazing. Super sweet, accommodating, and very helpful since it was our first time visiting the restaurant. The decor is lovely and well taken care of. My husband and I both had our meals and sushi within about 10 mins and the food was great. Wasn't skimpy amounts of fish in the sushi. Was actually some of the best rolls I had in a long time. I was unaware of the 50% off sushi roll deal they had going on, and was beyond shocked when we got our bill for only $25 when I expected it to be roughly $50-60. I don't have anything bad to say about BENTO BOX. They were nice staff people, the environment was very clean. The food was delicious. BENTO BOX was delicious. I had the SESAME CHICKEN box lunch. It came with salad with a delicious sesame seed dressing and a very gratifying cucumber salad. I was pretty much satisfied. This is the very first time I have tasted SESAME CHICKEN in a deep fried form. Im so use to receiving this recipe cooked on a grill with a sesame seed sauce. What I enjoyed about it is that it tasted like CHICKEN KATSU. I recall that the batter used for cooking this chicken reminded me of KARAAGE. It was delicious. It was different but it still had the sesame seeds on it. They did serve me with LOTS OF FOOD. It was a lot of food to eat. SO I believe from my perspective that I got my money's worth. I will definitely return to try the other stuff on the menu. It is worth coming back to. I cannot say, "WOW. This place is amazing!"
