Brief: Solid service, adequate-to-large portions, planning ahead required, on the pricy side, BUT a small business worth supporting of you love Japanese food and their cultural tendency to have an eye for detail. Details: Great service. Extremely friendly and transparent. The young lady working the front stays very busy with a positive attitude. She takes in-person orders, phone-in orders, all the transactions, organizes and bags all the food, all the while providing a whole verbal introduction/guidance through the menu to new customers. It's a small family business, so their high traffic doesn't seem to dampen their enthusiasm. I'm all for that incentive. As for the rest of my experience... Upon arrival, they warn that their normal wait time during peak hours is 20 minutes, so they advise calling ahead of time. They otherwise have a small bench and unfortunately no seating for dining in. This business fills that fast-causal, Japanese homestyle void Issaquah has been lacking. There used to be a teriyaki place near Value Village that was our family's longtime go-to, but it closed. This may provide the next best thing. The food is solid and seems to be cooked and packaged with the same care and pride that the young lady has providing customer service out front. Since it's all take-out, you won't receive better care packaging at other the dine-in restaurants. That being said, I'm a bit torn. I would consider this place the price point comparable to a dine-in restaurant, not that of a fast-casual. I'm considering the cost of the bentos and special (we ordered the Shoukado and Chicken Katsu curry, ~$17 and ~ 14, respectfully). There's no seating and on-site service, so there is less overhead costs. It makes the price point a bit high in my eyes. So, as another reviewer commented, this wouldn't be considered a bargain, despite the adequate-to-large portions. However, if you stick to more simple orders like teriyaki or Kalbi, it can be $9-$14. Also, as a fast-casual restaurant, it's not fast (during peak hours). If you were hoping to pick food up, you would have to plan to order, wait 20 min, then make time to eat at another location. This would best work for take-home if you call on your way there, but perhaps not so much for a midday lunch break if you are working and failed to plan ahead. Critiques aside, I will likely come back to try more options. I do enjoy supporting small businesses, especially ones that seem to value their customers like this one. read more

Thank you for opening in Issaquah!! Finally, a place to get fresh, good quality, good value Japanese food! I got the Shoukadou bento and I am stuffed! Comes with a miso soup. Tempura is tasty but not understandably crisp even after a ride home. The rolls (spicy tuna and Paradise) were fantastic with good fish to rice ratio. Take out only. It's such a treat to find beautiful bento boxes getting served up in a small shop like this. I had their goemon bento and it was a surprise to see 5 different small sides and miso soup along with the main teriyaki chicken. We love the food here and have only ever ordered bento boxes because we like the variety. This time we got the makunouchi and shokado bentos and miso soup. The bentos are identical except sashimi is added to shokado. Good balance of meat, seafood, vegetables, rice and flavors. Beautiful presentation! read more

We called in an order at about 6:20 and was told it would be about 25 minutes. We ordered 3 teriyaki dishes (chicken, beef, & tofu) and 2 bentos (makunouchi). We arrived 5 minutes early and our order was waiting for us. The girl at the counter was super friendly. This place is a take out place only, so we went home to eat. All the food was packed in nice to-go containers so the separate dishes didn't run together. Everything was delicious. I would order all the same dishes again. The portions were just right especially compared to other teriyaki places around here that skimp. We've been to six other places in the area. This is our favorite. read more

The meals and options available here at Bento-ya Goemon are fantastic: from the salmon to sushi rolls, pickled vegetables, vegetable to shrimp tempura and miso soup, Bento-ya Goemon boasts a plethora of wonderful selections to feast upon. Having been to Japan and eaten the bentos from Tokyo to Kyushu, the authenticity of the bento here at Bento-ya Goemon is as close to the source as it can be. This is a tiny take-out place only. The food is pretty good and the price is very decent for what you get. However, they are ridiculously slow for takeout. The most recent time, I ordered online and was given an estimate of 30 minutes. It ended up taking 70 minutes. read more

Really like this place. They use beautiful bento to-go containers and are still beautifully presented even though they are "to-go" only. I've had the Shoukadou bento several times as well as the Kalbi. Only downside is the portions are huge -- recommend splitting with someone if you are not super hungry. read more

We bought a late lunch at this new Issaquah restaurant on Saturday (take out only). Our Makunouchi and Shoukado bento meals were excellently prepared and presented. The bento included the main food items, dashi/miso soup, rice, a variety of vegetable and seaweed salad items, tiny tomato, an orange slice, tempura with sauce, etc. Everything you would expect to have in a fine sit down restaurant. We took this lunch to a nearby park and enjoyed. We hope to return soon to try more of the food prepared here. read more

We tried this place on the recommendation of a friend. It is two doors down from Noodle Boat. The quality of the food is amazing and the price is right too. We ordered two shokudo bentos and one teriyaki bento to go (20 minutes ahead). There was plenty of food for two adults and two kids and the quality of the food was remarkable for the price. This is a real Japanese place with Japanese owners and Japanese food - sashimi, tempura, rolls, chicken teriyaki, tsukemono (pickles), miso. This is going to become one of my regular places for take out. read more

Very fresh and good variety of Bento! I SO wish they are closer to my house, then I would come at least a few times a week. I had Shokado Bento and Japanese fried chicken Bento. Both SO good! This bento place has really authentic Japanese bentos, comparable to what they sell in Japanese train stations! The portion is much bigger though, might be the only Americanized part of the bento . Service is also wonderful, will definitely be back if taste remains consistent read more
