I had a bagel with tofu veggie cream cheese, it was excellent! it was my first time and there were so many cream cheese options and the young lady that helped me choose was very nice. I ordered a whole wheat bagel but I dont think when the young lady told the guy who was making it understood, or didn't hear correctly. It's okay though. I also ordered a fresh juice and the guy who made my bagel was also making my juice. he didn't remember what I wanted when he double checked twice wit me before and throughout the picking and cutting of fruits. Aha I got a large so i got to pick 4 fruits. i wanted grapefruit kale carrots pineapple. cut the grapefruit first, chopped the kale, cut the pineapple, but he picked up an orange and was about to cut it but i stopped him lol all in all, everything was still good. the guy just needs to either get better at listening or memorize better? :) read more

One of my favorite Sunday activities is to walk here, get a fresh sesame with walnut raisin cream cheese. It is the perfect way to relax and forget that tomorrow is the beginning of another stressful week. I can always count on the bagels to have a crusty exterior and soft inside. The bagels are never too chewy and to me these are the perfect consistency. Although the lines can be long, they move fairly quickly and I have never had a problem with poor service. They speak fast and quietly just to get you food so you can leave. If you ask one question or give them anything more than a basic order they become obviously annoyed. I then watched him take a panini out of a container separate the bread and sniff the meat. Then placed the container back in the case. After waiting 20 mins for anyone to ask for my order, and another 5 mins for my bagel, I was charged 9 dollars for a bagel with avocado, cream cheese and turkey. I would be okay with the steep price of the bagel if it was well made and good produce but that was not the case. The bagel was sliced so thinly only half of the bottom slice was there? And then the top was too thick to get a solid bit. The avocado was very under ripe & there was cream cheese all over the bagel. It seemed like they were training new people, which I understand, but they need to be a little more competent in dealing with customers in a timely manner. And it take way too long to make the bagels, even after I got my bagel it is the saltiest thing I have ever tasted, it is hard and not tasty at all. The cream cheese is over the top salty. As far as bagel places go this place reigns supreme. Their selection of cream cheeses made me feel like a kid in a candy store. Everything from basil to blueberry, walnut to lox, raspberry to garlic is available.. and many, many more. Including the divine jalapeno cream cheese, which I get an average of 3-5 times a week. They also have several tofu cream cheeses for lactose intolerant/vegan customers. If you appreciate copious amounts of cream cheese look no further, they pack it on here... usually. And for the price (around $2-3 for a bagel w/ cream cheese), it can't be beat. On top of all the cream cheeses they have a number of bagels to choose from including such classics as everything, pumpernickel, and poppy seed. There is an entire wall full of special-order bagels, too, including tuna melts, egg salads, BLTs, hummus spreads, etc. They also have a wide selection of sandwiches, panini, muffins, mini-pies, and cookies. Overall, the service is good considering how packed it can be, especially during peak hours in the morning and afternoon. It also opens early and closes pretty late by bagel shop standards. Bergen has saved me on rushed mornings and late nights when most other cheap sandwich places were closed. Long live the Bergen! read more

There's nothing like Bergen Bagel to quell your craving for a stuffed, piping hot deliciousness. I know people who come here religiously, and I probably qualify as a semi-religious patron. The line to order never really ends from day to night, however efficient service means it moves pretty quickly. I usually order a plain bagel toasted with sliced lox and scallion cream cheese, definitely worth all $8. The lox is never too salty and the cream cheese is always well blended, never too chunky (i've been to other places where i'm literally gagging on big chunks of scallons). Bergen Bagels also has great lunchtime sandwich specials for $7.25. Comes with a bag of chips, can of soda, and your choice of potato salad/macaroni salad/pickle/coleslaw. read more

I've come here a few times and ordered the lox with tomato on the whole wheat pumpernickel bagel with a nice portion of the bread scooped out. Delicious! They took their time but it didn't take more than 5 minutes and they let me know that I can grab as many drinks and snacks as I want in the meantime and begin chowing down without feeling embarrassed. My bagels arrived late and cool. There wasn't enough cheese so I had to add more and throw it in the oven. After that, it was fine but not great. I had got an extra one for lunch this week and now I'm not super excited about it. I'd suggest walking a couple blocks down to Myrtle Bagel. They're way better. read more

Bergen bagels, while never the paradigm of efficiency, was always tolerable and the food was always satisfactory. Why relocating a mere quarter mile down the block completely undid their operation is anyone's guess, but both the service and the quality of the food have declined precipitously. Take for example this recent order: Whole wheat bagel toasted, a couple of slices and cheddar cheese and lettuce. I'll tank you not to judge; this is my signature sandwich and when prepared correctly it is as manna from heaven. Furthermore, it is relatively modest in its ingredients and therefore should be easy to prepare. At the risk of appearing presumptuous I am going to assume that by attaining a position at a bagel store you are at the very least capable of the straightforward task of assembling a bagel sandwich with a mere two ingredients without error. Alas, this does not appear to hold true at Bergen Bagels. After repeating my order a truly dizzying 6 times I still wound up with a cool bagel ( admittedly toasted, but hardly warm) with an inch-and-a-half thick layer of cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato. I simply can't conceive of a means by which the bumbling throng of mouthbreathers and goons behind the counter could be any less efficient. It's truly tragicomic. Before you think my judgement is too harsh based on one calamitous experience, allow me to qualify my review: I have been to BB no less than 7 times since their relocation and each time I leave I swear to myself that I shan't return. Shame on me, I know. The BB on the corner of Fulton and Washington appears ready to open at any moment. PLEASE, BB family- hear my plea: whatever polluted pool of labor you're plucking your Myrtle Ave staff from you'd do well to avoid. Open sores and prison tattoos are rarely choice attributes for those seeking employment in the foodservice industry and I applaud you for overlooking these obstacles, but please, PLEASE keep your customers in mind and hire based on a worker's ability to employ even a modicum of competence. read more

I'm really sick of the unorganized & consistently rude attitude I get from the people working here. Every time I call I'm put on hold by multiple people several times, sometimes waiting up to 10 minutes. I've put my annoyance about this aside because I understand they are popular. But then I place my order, the girl on the phone tells me I need to add something for a delivery minimum so I add an extra bagel. When the food arrives, I'm charged the extra dollar or whatever for the bagel but it isn't in the bag. Its not on the reciept, either, meaning I guess the girl didn't even write it down, but the total still reflected it. So, I call and try and simply explain this, but the guy on the phone clearly doesn't give a shit what I have to say and rudely yells over me several times "WHAT DID YOU ORDER!?", as if I'm wasting HIS time. Okay pal! I only ordered this extra freakin bagel because I had to, then I'm charged and don't recieve it, and I'm inconveniencing YOU? Then to top it all off, the guy asks me if I want them to deliver it. I replied, "well, I paid for it, didn't i?", "okay we will send it", and he hangs up. Thank you so much, kind sir! This place just drives me totally and completely insane whenever I'm here. I deleted a previous review to give them another chance. But, man, I can't get over the way this place is run. Incredibly slow service, for not that amazing a product. It would benefit management to spend some time watching the customer flow, and figuring out better ways of doing things. 1) You can literally wait 10 minutes at the front of the line before anyone will acknowledge your presence. No, "Hey there", no "Welcome" no, "Be with you in just a moment." No eye contact. Nothing. This happens routinely. I always have to suppress the urge to just walk out. Is that the type of feeling you want your customers to have? 2) They consistently get the order wrong, despite my repeating it three times. If you can't remember it, write it down. In fact, it would benefit all to have notepads. The time before this they forgot the order completely, leaving me waiting, and making me have the cashier twice check on it - backing her up, and making me feel like an ass. 3) The salad station is right in front of where people order. The spit-glass doesn't go nearly as high as it should. In other words, people are spit-talking all over the ingredients. Make the glass higher, or cover the vegetables. Health department alert. 4) Is anyone happy to work here? Anyone? Such misery on everyone's faces. 5) It's not really routine to pay when you get to the end of the line. You mostly wait until the person making your order is done with your order. So, you wait in line to place your order, wait as it's made, then wait again to pay even after your order has been completed. Why can't I pay while the order is being made? I can? Why is the cashier walking away? 6) Lite-FM on the radio? Can it not be the year 1985 in here? This place needs much better organization. It can take 30 minutes from start to end and will stress you out in the process. read more

This bagel shop can't seem to get it right. They consistently mess up my order every time I go there. How hard is it to get a bagel with bacon, egg, and cheddar? Yesterday morning I got there at 6:45am with one other guy who had already ordered. I stood for five minutes without any of the two people behind the counter stating "good morning", "what would you like", or "we'll be right with you." In my frustration I left and vowed never to go back because it's clear they don't care about helping their customers.
