We have been a customer since they open when my wife moved to San Francisco in 1988 and lived about Martha & Brothers Coffee a few blocks away on 24th Street. We know that whatever is going to be baked at NVB is beautiful, delicious and creative! From their seasonal tarts, festive cakes for Halloween, Christmas, Hanukkah, Mardi Gras King Cake, Easter, Memorial, Pride or Fourth of July it THE place to pick up your favorites. I always get an oatmeal raisins cookies which is huge, fresh, yummy and chewy! We great an assortment of challah (plain, Poppyseed ot sesame) and scones! I love this bakery and am so happy it's just down the street from my house! You can never go wrong with their cheesecake topped with fresh berries. I'm not usually a big sweets person but this always hits the spot. It's so good that it's hard for me to share with my husband, so we usually end up getting our own. We got three scones and the lemon drop cupcake and everything was delightful, the scones were not dry, perfect texture, the flavor really coming in, the cupcake was moist perfectly tangy with the lemon! We also got olive sourdough which had the perfect texture and saltiness from the olive. Went towards the end of the day so no line and it went pretty quickly. I'm obsessed! The Noe Valley Bakery has some pretty tasty pastries. We met up with friends for coffee and a pastry, and we were definitely in for a huge treat! They have a great variety of items to choose from, and they are all really delicious! If you're not looking for anything too sweet, they also offer some delicious looking savory pastries I love the what they bake and make is seasonal. So you can expect to always find something new and different when you visit. I will say that everyone raves about the cupcakes, and we purchased one that is reminiscent of a hostess cupcake. It was tasty, but definitely not my favorite. It was missing something. Maybe the cream filling needed to be something more than what it was. I got the currant and orange scone and the M&M cookie. both items are so tasty. the scone is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. just what I'm looking for in a scone. the currant and orange add a nice light and tart element to the scone. makes it not too heavy to eat. M&M cookie was too good. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Not too many M&Ms which I appreciate. Staff is super nice and helpful. They greet you and are happy to answer any questions and provide suggestions. It's a small inside to the bakery, there's more often than not a line outside the door! packed with families, young adults, etc. Prices are pretty reasonable overall for pastries. Definitely a well-known bakery in SF for a reason. My favorite pastry here is the cheddar chive scone - a perfect balance of doughy, cheesy, buttery, and savory. I also love some of the other scones and have had their chocolate cake before which is very decadent and rich. There's often a line on the weekend but it's usually fast-moving and pretty efficient. Bought a strawberry cake from them for my wife's birthday and the order and pick up process was super smooth online. I love how they have a good and navigable website for all ages. You can also easily customize a cake online, which was a cherry on top. I had my wife pick up the cake and they even gave her a small free cupcake since it was the day of her birthday. The cake itself was presented very nicely, but my we were a little disappointed on how hard the frosting it. We were expecting a soft frosting like on most cakes, but this one was a little harder to a point where you can stab the fork in the frosting and pick up the cake. It was not very sweet (best compliment) and we did not get sick of the easily since it was so light. I just wished the frosting was a little softer and not as tough and chewy. If anything, I'd suggest defrosting the cake for a little bit before eating to soften it up. read more

Obviously you can't expect a legitimate French pastry in the city, but for $5.20 I was hopeful the pain au chocolat would at least have proper lamination. It's just bread So overpriced and disappointing. I don't think they even use an egg wash, just a butter brushing after it's baked? The baguette was $3.75 before tax and didn't look great either. I'm sure their other things, maybe their cakes and sourdough are good, but do *not* buy the croissants here. read more

I ordered a 1/4" sheet cake, because the website said it would feed 20-25 people so we thought that would totally be enough for our children's birthday party with 18 kids attending. The cake was delivered and I was shocked by how small it is, and had to call them because I thought we were given the wrong size. The cake measures less than 12" long x 7" wide, and based on my experience it would feed 12 people with regular-size (not generous) slices measuring ~3" x 2". To feed 24 people as it claimed, you would have to cut 1" x 1.5" slices and I cannot imagine a scenario where that is remotely acceptable as a serving size. It was beautifully decorated and looks delicious, but for over $100 I would hope that I would be able to feed 18 children. read more

I came in to pick up a birthday cake (customized with text) and was entranced by their bakery case display so I had to grab a mini lemon tart + mini fruit tart + lemon drop cupcake for the birthday boy. The cake itself was a 6" carrot cake -- very moist w/ perfectly creamy cream cheese frosting that wasn't too sweet. Lots of raisins and nuts throughout! Delicious. My visit was short and sweet. I had placed a cake order a few weeks before for my brother-in-law's birthday. I ordered a 6" confetti cake with red writing. Picking it up on the day of was easy peasy. They have a separate pick up line and I got there before the rush. The bakery smelled amazing! The cake is light, sweet, and fluffy. I like that it's frosted only on the top and between cake layers. Different tarts, cookies, cupcakes and more. Also the prices weren't too bad and were comparable to Whole Foods. We had the lemon tart and the lemon cupcake. Both were excellent and were recommended to us. The custard was very creamy and it wasn't too sweet. The cupcake was so good and had very tasty frosting. Came here to pick up a lemon raspberry tart for Cindy's birthday! The pre-order process was easy. I wasn't able to do it on the website because I think I was too early (? or maybe it was too late?), so I placed a phone order instead and provided my credit card info over the phone. Everything in here looks SO good. I want it all. Next time I will have to try the other items here, but they have something for everyone! The least exciting part was waiting to get helped. We stood at the "pick up order" line for a while like 15 minutes, even though we were the only people in this "line". The employees just kept helping people who came into the store and never asked us if we needed anything. Maybe a bell or something placed here would be nice? After we picked up the tart, the employee was very kind and even helped us write some words on the tart. Overall, yummy pastries! Would definitely come here again. read more

The service here is always on it. Fast friendly and moving the line along very well. I think we've tried most of the breads and cupcakes that they make. You wouldn't really want to stay and eat in the store, as it's small and doesn't have a lot of places to accommodate it. But you'll be very happy when you get where you're going and dig in. One big con - they recently stopped making the BEST baguette I've ever had. It was encrusted with seeds and had little bits of cooked onion inside. It was mind-blowingly good. We'd always buy a few the freeze. They froze well and made delicious garlic bread! I hope they bring them back. Please. :) read more
