This location should be my favorite because I like low key. It's definitely not a scene and it's charming with seating out front in a warehouse neighborhood. Huh you say? I'm not so into chi chi 'hoods, and this one isn't upscale. And you can park here. BUT I want cake. There is never cake here despite what the website says. I can't tell if they just don't make cakes at this location or if they are always sold out by the time I can get there about an hour before closing? I really wanted to try the oolong pineapple rose cake because that's a flavor combination I would never have considered. And guess what? It was fabulous! How do I know? Cuz I DoorDashed it from the Valencia St. location which is 1) chi chi and 2) not a place anyone can get to anymore because of the parking/bike lane situation (see my SFMTA bashing reviews for that saga.) But back to the cake ...don't be scared off by its slightly menacing appearance (it looks like you couldn't get it through airport security) It is super tasty and unique! Had a somewhat disappointing experience at C&W this morning, we had been wanting to come here for a long time (came on a day they were supposed to be open previously but found them to be inexplicably closed). We finally made it here, only to be let down by the fact that the rebel within muffin with egg baked in had raw dough all around the egg. It was gross and we had to throw the (fairly expensive) pastry out once we got home. Our second pastry a morning bun was more straightforward and better, and the coffee was reasonable. I don't think we would come back, but I wouldn't recommend against going either, just don't get any of the soft baked egg items. read more

1 block from main 3rd street. Located by warehouses. Parking is scarce but you can double park or block a driveway. Or park a block or two away to sit in. Out door seatings for sunny days Indoor seatings for rainy days. It's a quiet area. Store is very clean and organized. I walk in and there was no one to help me. Gee, I had no idea Craftsman and Wolves had a bakery cafe in Bayview. "BAYVIEW? Ooooh, I'm dyin'!" That was my Bugs Bunny impersonation. I can do Daffy Duck upon request, but I digress. I discovered this off-the-beaten-path spot on a random search in Google Maps. I just expanded the view with my index finger and thumb pinched in a sweeping outward motion, and there it was. My curiosity led me to take the T line further south than I normally would and got off at the Williams Avenue stop. Never heard of it. I had to walk past a McDonald's with especially aggressive drivers who sped out of the drive-thru once they got their McNuggets in hand. I turned a corner onto Yosemite and was deep in the residential, working class neighborhood when I came upon the corner cafe at the Yosemite Plaza building (photo: https://bit.ly/3MHeql0). It turned out that CAW (as they refer to themselves) have their production facility kitchen here, so they decided to open this compact shop with a streamlined menu. They had some tempting croissants and other goodies at the counter. But I tried to be good (whatever that means). I went with two items. The first was their $11 Salad with Fancy Ranch, a smallish but tasty creation, a very casual assembly of little gem lettuce, kale, pickled red onions, cucumber, pecorino romano, and toasted croutons tossed liberally with their "fancy ranch" dressing (photo: https://bit.ly/369NBoP). In other words, it was like a high-end Caesar. The second was the $10 Egg Salad Sandwich where they mixed the egg salad with celery, yuzu, little gems, and chili flakes. A few months ago, I wrote a review in regards of my experience at the Valencia location of Craftsman and Wolves. I wrote a review based on my negative experience and gave them a big fat 1 star. I never regretted nor will apologize for writing that review. The food was incredibly good the customer service was horrible. I hope they make changes. Anyway, my experience here in this location is the exact opposite. The Hispanic lady from the customer service was incredibly nice. I ordered a cookie, brownie and a mocha for a quick bite. Everything was good! I chatted a little bit with the Hispanic staff and I told her everything about about the lousy experience from the other location. She apologized for the rude behavior of the staff from the other location but I told her she didn't have to. I ordered a chai latte before leaving. Perhaps I should start coming into this location instead of going to Valencia Street. read more

I was leaving a site for work and stumbled on Craftsman and Wolves a few blocks down! Parking is a bit difficult here, but I was able to find a spot a block away. I've only been to the Craftsman and Wolves in the Mission once, and it was for The Rebel Within--their savory muffin with a soft boiled egg on the inside. I was happy to see that they also sold it at this location (of course!). I ordered one and asked for it to be heated it up. The price is definitely higher than I remember (~$8?), but when I got home, I shared it with my fiance and I was a perfect snack for both of us. We were both in awe of the perfectly soft boiled egg inside--HOW does that happen?! I've read about the kouign amanns, but I didn't see it in the display box that day. Next time! read more

I must say this is one of the most unique coffee shops in the bay area and I love the concept of this place as well. Their coffee stuff definitely taste the best and have many right amount of different flavors. I love the way they made my iced mocha because it gave out such a rich creamy flavor that wasn't loaded too many sugar in it. It wasn't too sweet or too bland so it was being made in the right way! I even dig their mini fresh bakery as well. They have many various choices and some of their pastries are original. My favorite from their pastries would be the fresh buttery and flaky layers of the kouign amann with strawberry jam inside. I love how the flavor of strawberry jam and it tastes very natural with less amount of sugar which that was perfect for my own taste buds. I could even taste fresh strawberries as well. I like they also have a cute little outdoor space outside the coffee shop so it feels nice out there for some fresh air and the simple spacious. read more

When I hear brunch I think of a full spread entree with eggs, sausage, hash brown, and etc. Lately I've been having my boyfriend choose where we go to eat because he complains that we always get the same thing and he wants to branch out so I let him choose and this place came up. I was super iffy at first. I'll be honest. From the photo of their menu on Yelp it was clear that this wasn't the place to engorge yourself with fattening food. Rather, this is a nice place to just sit down and relax with your coffee and bun. My boyfriend opted for their strawberry croissant and I got their hash with eggs and I seriously am in love with that croissant he had. It was flakey and toasted and the inside was stuffed with strawberry jam and some sort of cheese that I didn't think would work but surprising it was so delicious. Holy shit. They have outdoor benches you to sit at should you choose to stay which was what we did. On a 2pm on a Saturday afternoon we were able to find parking right out front. No meters. A cute little coffee shop with Instagram-worthy pastries found in the heart of Bayview. There are not many coffee shops around in the area, so the Den, Tallio's coffee, and Philz are really the only ones aside from Starbucks. However, I'd say there's no reason to come out to Bayview for these coffee shops. If you live or work in the area, I could see this place being your one-stop shop for the necessary energy burst to get you through the day. However, the prices are a bit outrageous and the coffee is nothing special. I mean, there is the visually appealing egg muffin that seems like it was named by the owner's edgy teenage son ("The Rebel Within"), but even that was too bland for the price. Serving The Mission since 2012 and expanding to Yosemite Avenue in Bayview-Hunters Point four years later, it had been nearly five years between visits when three guests entered Craftsman and Wolves (CAW) on Saturday, a steady downpour outside keeping others at bay and shelves fully stocked just after 8:00am. Still owned and operated by Chef William Werner, a two time James Beard Foundation Finalist for "Outstanding Baker" with a resume that includes The Ritz-Carlton and Michelin 3* Quince, The Den offers a slightly different look at CAW than the Valencia Street flagship, sweets slightly truncated and savories expanded while limited seating and a lack of public restrooms renders it a largely "grab and go" operation. Best known for The Rebel Within, a masterpiece of #yolkporn that predates Instagram, it was with nearly complete change from prior offerings that guests perused their options, all but two deemed "can't miss" following an early morning flight and the only repeat Chef Werner's Cocoa Carrot Muffin which remains a remarkable balance of Chocolate and Baking Spices with crumbly insides but plenty of moisture. Ordering one made-to-order item, a slice of CAW's Croissant Loaf toasted and slathered with Orange Marmalade, it was after a short exchange with the somewhat rude clerk that Banana Bread was tasted, the addition of Coconut mellowing flavor but at the same time drying things out a bit while the square Donut to follow was pretty much flawless from eggy Brioche to bold Vanilla Icing and crunchy Cookie Crumbs. Less impressed by an Apple Cider Donut, the Cake overcooked and parched with an overabundance Cinnamon doing the exterior no favors, it was moving on to Craftsman and Wolves' Financier that Saturday morning's best item was found, the Brownie-like base made even smoother by Almond Flour while the outside crackles to the tooth thanks to caramelized Cocoa Nibs. Hoping to save the best for last, Werner's Viennoiseries having previously proven noteworthy, suffice it to say that the "AKA" continues that trend by replicating the South American Cookie's flavor amidst buttery layers while the lamination of a Croissant with Chocolate *in* the Batter is also impressive, though much like the Cake Donut this is an item best saved for those who don't mind a high ratio of Cinnamon to Sugar on the surface. Finishing up with a pair of Cookies, the "No Frills" Peanut Butter a top-tier rendition that melts across the palate, those seeking the Bay Area's best Chocolate Chip should put Craftsman and Wolves on their list as each bite is nearly 50% Valrhona but at the same time never too rich thanks to Sea Salt that is more pronounced in the soft center than around crispy edges. read more

As a young child, it was instilled in me that whatever you do, will come back to you. I remember being 6 years-old and we were at union square for my dental appointment when we saw a homeless man sitting in the sidewalk. I read that at Craftsman and Wolves' new shop in Bayview, The Den, you can pre-pay for a slice of veggie pizza for those in need so I just had to pay a visit. The Den is currently in soft opening phase. I believe they're only open on the weekdays from 6:30 am - 2 pm. There's limited seating: 4 at the window and one picnic table outside. On that menu are savory and sweet pastries (including the infamous Rebel Within), staff meal pizza, salad, salami sandwich, coffee, tea, and canned drinks. CC's accepted. Absolutely one of my favorite coffee shop/bakeries in the entire city. I've been going here since before the lockdowns, but it's safe to say that I've ordered from here since then! My go-to is the Rebel Within. The savory muffin is the perfect fluffy, cheesy texture and taste, and adding the egg inside is just an amazing experience to eat that I can only say that you have to try to believe. The small amount of their salt that you add somehow manages to elevate this pastry from an already amazing savory flavor to an even better blend of savory cheese, egg, sausage and scallion to an also salty and slightly spicy flavor bomb. I'd also recommend the Japanese Milk Bread. On its own it's a flaky yet very sweet bread that I absolutely love. However, taking it home, I love to toast it for a little and add just the smallest amount of butter, cinnamon and sugar for an amazing homemade French toast. These guys also do amazing coffee drinks and the smaller cakes, such as the coffee yuzu, are a great treat to take home as well and pair with the coffee. While ordering ahead can be a bit annoying, the wait and the price are, in my opinion, well worth it. read more

I love that they've decided to place the Den in the southeast corner of SF. The atmosphere is super chill vibes. I really love the art on the walls. I constantly get pastries from here. I'm really trying to make my way through the ever-changing menu ;) I'll apologize to my waist line later! There are definite must-get items: The Devil Within and Kouign Amann. The Devil Within is their signature, running yolk, savory muffin. I definitely think that it's worth a try! I can't say that I was blown away by the taste, but the experience as a whole is very CAW. Their Kouign Amann is my weakness. I dream about those flakey layers! It feels like a croissant in a muffin form, but not a cruffin in the slightest. The best pastries in San Francisco! Do I dare make so bold a statement? Even given the presence of Tartine, B. Patisserie, and countless others??? Yes, I stand my ground (for the time being). I've had many of the pastries here and you cannot go wrong (my personal favorite is the morning bun also known as flaky and buttery goodness!) unless you cannot eat dairy or gluten in which case the gluten free financier or vegan chocolate cake or breakfast bowl are beautiful options! I know The Rebel is the perceived necessary item (if you didn't instagram the oozing egg yolk did you really go to craftsman?) but I strongly urge you to sample from the many other pastry items (chocolate croissant is capital A Amazing) At the Valencia location, the desserts taste how they look- like works of art but often with surprising twists of complex flavors, like the combination of coffee, Yuzu, and coconut (a dream team!). The Den, however, boasts a more expansive menu than Valencia with savory (and sweet) toasts and salads. Don't ask "should I?" but declare "I should." Yes, the food is on the pricier side, but in my opinion quite reasonable for the quality you're getting. In my opinion, the sweet (or savory!) treat you'll be getting is worth every penny and every second indulging yourself as a pretentious foodie hipster. read more
