Dumpy old school handmade dim sum place in the plaza at Renfrew and 1st. This store is located upstairs. The place is pretty barren. There's a front counter that's really a desk, and some fridges full of bags of dim sum. Everything is obviously completely handmade and hand packed here. Store is run by a kind lady. Pricing isn't the cheapest, but what's cheap these days? Still a much better deal than eating dim sum in a restaurant. The siu mai I picked up are actually pretty good. Size is average. Looks a lot like the ones seen in restaurants. I'll be back to try more of their items. read more

I would occasionally come to this neck of the woods to go to the restaurant here and to T&T supermarket. They have a decent selection of dim sums and the prices were decent. The food were all either meh, okay and a couple of good ones. The employee we talked to (I always come here with my mother) seem nice. While this might not be the easiest location to get to but if you're looking for some dim sums, this joint is worth a look. read more

Not sure why I am seeing other Yelpers reporting this place is closed? We just came here to stock up on our staple dim sum last Sunday. Our favourite dim sum here are: BBQ Bun - the buns are so soft and fluffy and the best part, there is no funky smell to the pork. It is unfortunately quite typical with most frozen dim sum Chives & pork dumpling - cook in water for 7-8 minutes Bok Choy & pork dumpling - cook in water for 7-8 minutes *very popular with kids Bamboo Sticky Rice (Zongzi in Mandarin & Jong in Cantonese) We love the red bean version Overall, the dim sum here tastes as good as any dim sum restaurant. I highly recommend it. The owner is super helpful and pleasant too. She took the time to explain how each dim sum should be cook and truly takes pride in their food product. read more

Another small business located in the First Avenue Marketplace. I think it is family run, but I must say for quality and price, you really can't beat this place. They are a little store in the corner of the plaza that sells frozen hand made dumplings. There is no fancy packaging here, except a little sticker stating what it is (wonton, shui mai, etc) and what ingredients are inside. This is the one place I can actually find pure pork shui mai, and wonton's, as I have someone at home allergic to shrimp. They also make fresh rice rolls here, where I buy and bring home and fry up. You can buy bags of wontons here for cheap. Depending on what is in them, my plain pork meat wonton's, a bag of 50, comes out to $5. I've tried many little frozen dim sum shops around the city, and even the commercialized stuff they sell in the frozen section at T&T, and this place beats them in taste and quality! read more

Bought the frozen dumplings from them as opposed to T&T you know thinking I would support local and small family run business. Super nice family and great people. Before I get into detail with the dumplings I need to first let you know that I have over 100 years of dumping cooking experience. I'm 120 years old this year. So, I cook my dumplings with a 3 cold water bath process passed down from 3 family generations males having to cook frozen dumplings. What this means is. You bring the water to a boil. Put dumplings in. When it comes to a boil you pour a bowl of cold water and wait for the water to boil and do this two more times so the skin is tender. Then you can either bring to a skillet for a sear or just eat. Well, the dumplings went through this process and it did not last. The skin was too thin or the dumplings have been frozen too long or not enough water when making the skin. I hope you have better luck when buying. Sadly, there is no way to check what you're buying because it's so local that there are not "made on" stickers to let you know. I did notice that after 1 boil the skin was already tearing and the meat was just popped out and it became a meat ball soup with flour skin and foamy water. In the end, I still ate it all because it was dumplings and dumplings are made out of desperation of a lack of available alternatives. Meaning I was freakin hungry so it's too late to care. I don't think I can go back again even though they are super nice and look so genuine and nice. I wish them the best for their business though. I already experienced what I got from them and if I get dissatisfied with a late night hangry dumpling experience I will begrudge myself for being an idiot. But from working in the food industry. The cause might be that their freezers are not blast chillers commercial grade ones so it's not freezing quick enough plus the thickness of the skin is too thin. read more

The lady was very helpful, however questionable. While putting my dumplings in a bag one fell out, I called to her, "hey I saw that fall on the ground". She then said okay and replaced it. Don't know how they taste and I get the sneaky suspicion that they supply the restaurants. Prices appear fair but I question their cleanliness. Love this place. For traditional home-cooked frozen dim sum at a great price point, you can't beat them! Don't be fooled by their lack of fancy packaging and pretty interior; they are top notch at getting that classic taste. Come here instead of going downstairs to T&T and support local businesses! I especially love it when I go in and something has come fresh out of the oven: they hand the buns over in an open plastic bag and I can have one as I drive home. As others have said, don't let the looks of this place fool you. Best frozen dim sum and the price is right. There's few reviews for this place because their typical customer base isn't wired or so-inclined to give reviews. How often do people review frozen goods here?? While the product is frozen, they make their products in-house and it turns over frequently so the food is "freshly frozen". Having a stash of their goodies in your freezer for snack is so convenient. In about 30 minutes including the water boiling time, you'll have a tasty snack or meal. Tried the supermarkets, T&T, Hon's, etc, but this one rocks them all. The couple working there are good people, and will suggest products and help you with cooking suggestions. My wife's stomach is sensitive to bad/unfresh dim sum, and this place's stuff passes the test with her. I recommend the Xao Lin Bao and the Shui Mai. Har Gows are decent but on the small side. The sticky rice wraps are good quality - others in town have changed to a mixed rice or are too mushy. Seasoning overall is good. Not too bland or salty. MSG is used sparingly, or maybe not at all - I wouldn't dare ask as a long time customer that doesn't want to offend them. I've hadn't had a case of cartillage, bone, gristle which happens half the time at other places. Nothing ever tastes "off". I think they use quality ingredients. Don't be scared by the plain packaging and lack of product labelling. They will gladly guide you along if you have questions. If you like to eat dim sum in the comfort of your own home without the rude/pushy waiters commonly at restaurants, this is the place for you. read more
