(no comments from the peanut gallery) Best Donuts is not quite convenient for the thousands of people commuting to the office towers, especially at Bishop Ranch. It can be done, though. It's a matter of knowing which shopping center they're in, then driving to the back and grabbing your, um, health food. In my case, the health food was a large apple fritter. The lady behind the counter was very friendly; "Do you want it crispy or soft?" Two dollars later, out I went. Like most donut shops, there are tables to sit at if you want to enjoy your breakfast while reading the newspaper. I had to get to work, though. The apple fritter was big enough that it took me a while to finish. And I enjoyed every bite. Like most fritters, the apple is mixed in the dough, and it was a good taste. I am sorry to say I was not a fan here. They have a particular "style" to their take on donuts. The frosting on the old fashioned chocolate is very thick and sloppily slathered on. On many of them, they don't evenly cover the donut at all. I found it to be disappointing. The second donut, a modest chocolate cake, wasn't good either. I came here when they were about to close so they didnt have much donuts left, but i was able to grab a cinnamon twist and a buttermilk bar. The cinnamon twist was really fluffy and light, even though it was probably made in the morning. The lady working here was all smiles. I will be back to try their other donuts . read more

There are two reasons why I go to Best Donuts - those are Tha and Randy, the owners of this Mom and Pop shop. They are so genuinely nice and probably as warm as their donuts at 5am. They have been around since 1986, back when San Ramon wasn't the city as we know it. They have the usual suspects - raised, cake (traditional and old-fashioned), French cruller, jelly- or cream-filled, twist, and long John (bar / éclair). They have apple fritters, too. Donut holes come in 3 flavors: glazed, raspberry jelly-filled, and custard cream-filled. Their raised donuts are lighter and fluffier (the way donuts should be) than the other donut stores in town. I usually come here to get a box of half-dozen donuts and on every occasion, Tha or Randy had tossed in something extra. There was even a time when I walked in after having lunch at a nearby restaurant and bought two Cinnamon Crumbs. Lo and behold, Tha still gave me an extra donut! Just like most donut shops, they make their goodies to cater to the morning crowd. Based on the simple law of supply and demand, you can't expect them to make donuts at midday. This little donut shop, tucked in a corner of a small strip mall, is a hidden gem! The owners, and older little couple, are so kind and truly pay attention to the details of your order - whether it is a simple order or a more complicated one. Their blueberry glazed cake are TDF and they make a great apple fritter too. Our team has been placing large orders recently (12 dozen on Fridays) and they are so sweet to deliver (we are just about one mile away). My son begged for donuts for his class birthday celebration. Since I had to buy 3 dozen, I searched Yelp photos to compare pricing amongst local shops. I chose Best Donuts based on an old photo showing $9.99 per dozen, but prices have increased 50% over the past two years due to the pandemic! It's now $14.99 per dozen, but at least you can mix and match assorted flavors. Five stars for taste and freshness, minus a star for price (now not much cheaper than nearby competitors). I was in the area picking up Indian food when I spotted this small donut shop and since we had some time to kill my brother and I decided to go in and check it out. I'm going to be 100% honest, it was around 12:30 already and there weren't that many donuts left. Initially my brother and I were just going to walk out but then we had a second thought, small businesses need to eat too so we ended up picking up a few things. I kid you not, quite possibly the best decision we made that day because I am 100% coming back next time I'm in the are. We got the bear claw, Apple fritter, and cinnamon roll donut. I've never had a bear claw before and it legit was the size of a bear claw. I wish I was kidding but it was legit bigger than two of my hands combined, and it was delicious. Apple chunks and cinnamon oozed out as I was biting into this soft, sugary pillow that was the donut and as soon as I bit into the apple chunk, the tartness taste hits my tongue, but the cinnamon drizzle calms it all down. Utter perfection of a donut. The Apple fritter was also delicious, but the star of the show was the bear claw. The cinnamon roll donut tasted like the best of both worlds lit together, a glazed donut and a cinnamon roll fused together. Delicious. Love love love this donut shop!! I go here every Friday, of course to start the weekend right, by getting some donuts and donut holes!! My workplace LOOOOVESsss the donut holes because they have the regular version, powdered sugar with custard inside donut hole and sugared jam filled donut hole. My son usually gets the sprinkle donuts and he's tried it here and at Danity Donuts, down the street, and even he prefers best donut and that's coming from a six year old. He simply says it tastes better at Best! Also, the couple that runs the shop is super nice.. I can't say that I've received the best service at Danity. I was pleasantly surprised by this awesome donut stop. I am always in search of the best Apple fritter, and the fritters here might just be my favorite. They are nice and crispy and big enough that maybe you should have shared it with someone. Though one fritter is definitely enough for any rational person, I had a plain old-fashioned as well. Why? Because I'm a professional. Their cake donuts are just as good as the fritter. Without any type of glaze/topping, it still had a good flavor and held up well to me dunking it my coffee. Their coffee, by the way, is also fresh and in a couple flavors. I went for the French Roast, and enjoyed two cups. Overall, this is a clean sitting space with a really friendly lady behind the counter. If you live in San Ramon, congrats. You have a pretty great donut shop on your hands. I stumbled upon this donut shop during the shelter in place and being pregnant, I really had to get some donuts that I've been craving. These donuts are very fluffy and non-greasy which is important to me (especially if you've had World's Fare donuts in Hayward!). Their raised sprinkle, sugar, and glazed are brilliant and airy. My first visit was last week and got half a dozen and this visit, I had to get a dozen plus other treats they had in store. During the shelter in place it's best to call to see what their adjustment of hours are. They close at noon but she was still there and waited for me. I suggest calling ahead to see if they are open. I gave them 2 stars only for food quality. I thought I would try this place since one of my neighbours made the recommendation. I was surprised by the menu, very nice. The doughnuts looked good, pretty normal variety. Doughnuts that aren't specialty in other shops are considered so in this shop. Unfortunately after my dozen was packed up I saw on the menu that two of the doughnuts were not part of the dozen and would cost more. I had no problem with that as a dozen were $12.99 and the other two considered "specialty doughnuts" were a little higher in price each. I never expected what would happen next however. When I got to the cash register the same woman who had put my box of doughnuts together charged me for a dozen doughnuts PLUS two specialty doughnuts after mumbling that two of the doughnuts were not part of the dozen. I said "that's okay"with the understanding that I would be charged the difference not charged $12.99 for a dozen and separately charged for the two specialty doughnuts each. I spent over $1600 for a dozen doughnuts and the woman didn't explain what she was doing or tell me to pick two more of the "correct" doughnuts for the dozen. There was a long line behind me because, well, this place has really good food. So I just left without causing a problem. I know, it's only a few dollars and it's just doughnuts but it's the way this transaction was handled, she didn't miss a beat as if she does this all day, every day. She certainly took advantage of me and I'm now wondering what happened to the "bakers dozen" most doughnut shops once offered as a friendly gesture? Absolutely little to no customer service with a snooty attitude from the employees.. This shop is the "poster child" of bad service with nothing to be offered as a "thank you" just take as much as you can with no customer service. I realize we're in and out of a pandemic, yet all the more reason to be grateful for your customers. How does this proprietor justify their non-communication and taking our hard earned money as we support local businesses?
