Excellent vet! I got a quote from my original vet for my dog's teeth cleaning and extractions for $1600.00. Yes, that is not a typo...almost 2 grand to get my dog's teeth in top shape. I am a foster dog mom with Austin Pets Alive and when I went in to the vet there I asked about this quote. The APA vet laughed and said, "NO WAY!" He asked me where I lived and I told him Cedar Park. He told me to call Best Vet on Anderson Mill. I called, took my dog in for the dental quote and it was $360. Unbelievable! :) Happy Dog Mom here! My Gray-Banded Kingsnake had an upper respiratory infection. The little high-pitched wheezing of snot bubbles from tiny nostrils is the saddest sound for me to hear. I went to Best Vet because they were recommended for snake owners by the folks at Zookeeper. Very few vets in Austin treat exotic pets, so I made the considerable trek (even for a North-Sider) to Anderson Mill for an appointment. The staff there is very friendly. The Vet himself was kind and gentle in handling my snake, even when little Miguelito flung poo all over the exam table and floor with his tail. The treatment for these infections is a series of antibiotic shots, administered every other day in the middle of back muscles. The Dr. offered to do the shots if I wanted to drive there every other day, which I didn't. I'm not sure if he still does, but at the time (about a year ago) one of the staff at Zookeeper also worked at Best Vet, so I just went down the street for him to hook me up. The first round of shots didn't cure him, so another round was required. I asked if there was anything else we could do for treatment because the shots are so harsh, they leave little scars on Miguelito's scales. The Doc said no, other than environmental changes I could make, that was it. I just think there *has* to be a better way. The second round didn't cure him either, but I didn't want to spend another $50 for something that was not helping and burning his skin. So as good as they may be for dogs, I'm not sure about the vet's snake-curing abilities. They still get 4 stars because the customer service is good, and the last 4 digits of their phone number is WOOF. read more

Unless you are really strapped for money, your pet only needs shots, or you are bringing in a reptile do not bring your pet to this clinic. His wife was my dog's vet for years, at a different clinic, and although she is a bit worrisome she was very compassionate. Best Vet is very much like a country vet - cheap & to the point so if you have a complex issue it is scares me to think a pet would go there. It's been 2 years now but I had a 6 month old rabbit spayed at the clinic. For the pain killer I went home with morphine/opioid. Yes, it was my choice to get a pain killer but it caused her heart to speed up to the point she was having anxiety attacks. I held her several times to calm her down and the last time I set her down her heart stopped. Even thou I have other pets and rabbits the pain of losing one like this still hurts. The vet is narcissistic and unfortunately while conversing with him it come across as condescending which I believe is his method of controlling the conversation. I have been to many a veterinaian in my life, with both my dog and my two cats. Dr. Bob and his staff at Best Vet are up there with the best. They are caring, down-to-earth, and conservative. Dr. Bob is very honest in the options you have, and doesn't guide you to expensive, nonconclusive testing just for the fact of having the testing done. This place is amazing! If you want to be treated like a celebrity pet-owner, come here. Best Vet breaks all of the stereotypes of small animal clinics. When I walked through the door, is smelled like the holidays, not dirty dog, or even the average animal hospital. I'm not a fan of stinky, and apparently they aren't either. The receptionist (the blonde one this afternoon) was really sweet and personable. She didn't seem annoyed that my little Foxy had once again forgotten her small stature, and was trying to intimidate a larger dog with her little bark. The other client had a good laugh about it with us too. When we were taken back to an exam room, the tech was incredibly nice. She didn't try to make me feel awful about not being 100% on top of my game when it came to Foxy, and seemed to understand that I was on a tight budget. She even got me an estimate and said that she hated being surprised with that type of thing, and would't want to do it to anyone else. The tech that helped hold Foxy during her nail trim and other stuff that she had done, and the vet that I saw, were also really great. All of them worked with my budget, and were understanding, professional, but still informative, when it came to her treatment plan and what she would need in the future. Not once did I feel guilted or pressured into something. Usually when I take Foxy to the vet, she's too scared to do just about anything, but they were so good with her that she was LITERALLY eating treats out of the palms of their hands. It was unbelievable! Courtney was the receptionist that checked me out, and she was an awesome note to leave on. She was incredibly sweet, and exactly the type of person that you hope to see working at a vet's office. Best Vet was an amazing experience, and my little Foxy and me will definitely be back!!! The staff at Best Vet are so kind and loving to the pets. Every time I've taken my dogs there, they pet them and stroke them and love em' up! You can really tell that these people care about animals and it shows through their affection. Also, recently my poodle needed a dental cleaning and it turned out to be very extensive. This clinic took my cat with no notice in an emergency situation. They were knowledgeable, expedient and patient with my 10,000 questions, and the bill was very reasonable. The staff went above and beyond in my case, even offering to help coordinate pickup after normal business hours. Great place to come if you are strapped for cash. They are very up front about cost and openly tell you labs or steps that u can safely skip to save money and get your pet some immediate help. The staff is very friendly and the prices for surgeries are easily half that of multiple of vets I've been to in the city. I've been here several times, and have dogs that have had anything from a nail trim to tumor removals, and have been 100% pleased every time. The Vet we saw in this office was not listed on the website...her name is dr. Theresa and I assume she is married to Dr. Bob Hardy...not for sure though. Only one doctor is listed on their site when it appears they have a few doctors so not understanding that business practice either. What are they hiding? This dr. Theresa came in the room and never bothered to introduce herself...um, ok. After her behind closed door evaluation of our dog, (um, why again?), she returned and immediately made us feel that we were BAD dog owners. We acknowledged we were already aware of one of the immediate but very costly health problem, but she looked at us as if we neglect our dog and have no compassion for OUR FAMILY MEMBER. We have never felt this type of prejudice and disrespect from anyone in this field. Dr theresa needs to check herself and realize her body language, choice of words, and overall lack of professionalism in her field and in simple customer service is hugely lacking. *** Even the other staff members that work there admit dr Theresa is off putting and unprofessional. They won't speak up and admit that to their superior of course in fear of losing their job which is understandable...but if a small vet clinic does not have the safe guards in place, simple checks and balances amongst its practice, the business will in no way really "win" when it comes to being the best vet in town. I cannot even put into words how much I love Dr. Bob and the entire Best Vet staff. I have been coming here with my dogs, reptiles, and Guinea Pigs, for about 8 years. We have never had a bad experience! I work with animals myself, so I think I have a really high expectation when it comes to how animals are treated, and I am very pleased with this staff. First off- we always feel very welcome when we walk in, the receptionists are very friendly and helpful. They're on top of things. The vet techs are AMAZING, and very knowledgeable, they're sweet, talkative, informative. I really feel like I am in a room with old friends when we discuss whatever it is I am in for. They reach over and pet my dogs, they all have a very gentle and calm energy-which my dogs love! Dr. Bob is like the cherry on top of a well rounded and kick ass staff. He's honest, and he isn't a know-it-all snob. He doesn't make me feel like a negligent jerk if I am oblivious on rare internal parasites, he simply explains the situation, the steps he recommends, and then he hits you with a super affordable bill! A shady vet from Zippivet (who did a vaccine at my dog daycare) really pressured and guilted me about my dog's teeth, so I made an appointment at Best Vet to get a full dental cleaning. When I got there, the vet said he didn't need it and sent me home with a free bag of dental treats without charging. So refreshing to see some honesty in the vet business. read more

"My opinion" is that declaw is done because owners 1) do not understand the implications of declaw surgery or 2) want a live toy that won't put a mark on their furniture and do not want to take a little time and effort to correct a natural, ingrained behavior. This declaw procedure IS OUTLAWED and considered animal abuse in the following countries where it is or considered extremely inhumane and only performed under extreme circumstances: England Scotland Wales Italy France Germany Austria Switzerland Norway Sweden Netherlands Ireland Denmark Finland Slovenia Portugal Belgium Spain Brazil Australia New Zealand and some cities in California. Out of 7 cats I have adopted, 4 abused, only 1--the declawed cat--is scared to death of everything, constantly tries to use the scratching post as he sees the others doing, and is the ONLY cat that has a biting issue. My furniture is in perfect condition except for a few scratches from the back claws when they jumped off the "wood" furniture. My only question was "what is a good way to trim the declaw (the one you have to be a pretzel to trim) and the response was--declaw her. This place is great. It's hard to find a good vet especially in a big city. Found this guy and he is like Dr. Doolittle. I mean he can talk to my dog and make googly eyes at him and my dog just mellow's out. One time my dog was hit by a truck and I called and right away they had me bring him in just to make sure everything seemed ok without having to do an x-ray first and charge me all kinds of extra $. I always had a great experience here and am so sad I haven't found another vet like this in Portland yet. I will definitely bring my dogs here when I return to the ATX. read more

When I rescued a dog from a shelter in Alabama, the staff at Best Vet helped me nurse her back to health (she now belongs to my brother and is doing very well). I have a friend that drives to North Austin just to take her dogs to Best Vet. The cost is very reasonable. The staff is amazing! They have always been kind and gentle to my 4 legged child. We've gone here regularly, for 2 1/2 years now, for allergy shots as well as his yearly shots and exams. Once, my dog, (who was a puppy at the time), had a reaction to a shot after we had gotten home. I took him back the Best Vet immediately and after 20 minutes in their care he was back to his normal jumpy happy self. Apparently my dog had developed an allergy to penicillin! So they've since adjusted his allergy shot to work without any penicillin. They are so helpful and knowledgeable. And I know they treat my pet well because he's never been scared to go to the back with them alone, without me. He's happy going in and just as, if not more happy coming back out with a treat! I've never expected a veterinarian's office to be pleasant. They completely blows any other vet away. Great job! read more

I never get in and out of here in less than 30 minutes. My visit took an hour and a half for just a doctor's visit and rabies vaccine.

It's may look like a hole-in-the-wall vet, but the people there are INCREDIBLE and care a lot for you and your pet. I was shown the utmost care for my family and little Boston terrier, whom we sadly had to put down due to failed kidneys. All i know is they tried everything and even went out of their way to try to help the little guy. The staff there are sweet souls but don't beat around the bush or just try to up-sell - Doctor Bob is very knowledgeable with a very balanced approach to care for pet, person and pocketbook. We moved here 2 years ago and initially I took my two dogs to the vet closest to my house. Not impressed with the care OR the prices. Went to another vet. Care was awesome but when I was told my little old dog needed his teeth cleaned and was quoted a price of $650-$850 depending on what all had to be done, I started shopping around. I came across Best Vet and I couldn't be any more pleased! The office isn't anything fancy, but everyone was so awesome! The girls at the desk were so friendly and helpful, the vet tech was great and I could tell he loves animals and the the doctor was great. He spent a lot of time with me and my dog, and was very knowledgeable and informative. In December our ten year old lab had a serious hematoma on her ear. My sister recommended Dr. Bob and I'm so glad I took her advice. The staff is extremely caring and Dr. Bob took the time to explain the procedure fully. There were a few other health concerns with our dog and Dr. Bob explained our options and answered our questions without pushing us to perform a bunch of expensive procedures. After our dog's surgery, they called to check on her and answered the questions I had. We've had many pets, have tried many vets, and I can honestly say we've never had such an awesome vet. I got my rabbit neutered here. Staff was incredibly friendly to me and my rabbit, and they gave him a look by the vet again before they handed him off to me. My rabbit seemed very comfortable and not nervous at all, and there were no after-issues with the procedure. My boy Havoc was put down yesterday by the same staff who had taken such good care of him his whole life. From the moment I brought him in as a puppy to the moment he took his last breath, Dr. Bob and his wonderful staff took such good care of not only him...but me as well. The day I rescued him as a tiny pup from the front of a Pet Smart store, the adoption guy said "Go to Best Vet...just trust me on this". So I drove WAY out of my way to see how good the "Best Vet" actually was. As I sat with this tiny pup waiting for Dr. Bob to make his first appearance in our lives I thought "wow...they really like crazy art. This place is fun even for the humans" Then Dr. Bob walked threw the door. He looked at me, then at my puppy, then back to me...then back to my puppy. With a stern nod of his head he said, "Is this it?" Now, at this point I'm thinking "whaaaaaaa?", but instead I say "y-yes?". In a quick but gentle motion, he swept my tiny pup off the table, flipped him over a few times and sucked air threw his teeth... "Oh dear...I have some bad news for you" I'm thinking OH GOD MY PUPPY WHAT COULD BE WRONG "M'am...this is a dog...if you were hoping for a cat, then there's nothing I can do for you"...he then blew tummy bubbles on baby Havoc's belly and proceeded to coo over him like he was the most precious thing ever to walk on four paws. "Who's a good widdle boy? Oh, I see a curly tail! Nothing good ever came of a curly tail! You're gonna be a handful, yes you are!" And that was the start of a seven year relationship that I have never regretted. From start to finish, Havoc and I had nothing but wonderful interactions. The best care from the best people...PERIOD. Dr Bob is great. So are the techs. Started going there in 2015. I have more than one dog and they would charge me one office visit. Well the last time I was there with my doggies I was charged 3 office visits by Mrs. Dr. Bob. She was rude and I just didn't wanna deal with her. I didn't notice it until I got home n looked at the receipt. That visit changed me completely. I used to recommend Best Vet to everyone. Although it's very inconvenient that they are not open on Saturday. Well I can no longer afford $150 per dog (3) for shots. So now I go to another place on Sat. I get their rabies shots there and for their other inoculations, I DIY it. I keep all records of what they receive. Here in the last month I felt that one of the dogs had a problem out of the ordinary. Concerned I called Best Vet. I was told that since I had not brought him in for longer than a year, they were going to charge me some Ridiculous amount of money to do a full check up on him as well as inoculations. I told them I have the current county rabies tag for him and he's current in all the other shots and I can prove it. I told her that the last time he got his rabies shot, it was Mrs. Dr Bob that was working that clinic and she checked him over. Much like at Best Vet. I told her why I don't go there anymore and she made a face at me. She said that it didn't matter, It's their policy. I said it's your policy to over vaccinate?
