This rating would have been a 5 star, except the music behind us was so loud, we couldn't hold a conversation. Eight family members were in our party from 68 to 3 yrs old! Everyone enjoyed their meals. The crab cake is very good, Peel & eat shrimp was good size, and Mexican Street corn dip was different and delicious. Can't remember all the different entrees, but there were no complaints. There is a cute "ship" out front to give the kids something to do while waiting to be seated and we were able to get on a call ahead list. read more

This place is always great because the service is friendly and never pretentious, the waffle fries are pure heaven, DAT RANCH THO!, and the music/vibe is always jammin. Perfect place to get a drink and food after a long beach day.... stroll over in your bathing suits/coverups and relax with a lemon crush and a big basket of waffle fries! Cute decor, great service, live music, and good food. The service was super. Running, with small children, after a day at the beach can be challenging and our server was phenomenal! The music was great! We started off with chicken nachos. They were terrific and not what I expected. There was nachos, guacamole, tasty chicken, and a white cheese sauce. We loved these and I would definitely order them again. We also ordered the Ahi tuna appetizer. It was good, but too many things going on to mask the flavor of the tuna. My daughter enjoyed them. For entrees, we had the pulled pork sandwich. We also had the fish tacos. The fish was frozen, not fresh, and the sauce was spicy and took away from the dish. The pineapple shrimp salad was good. There were only 5 small shrimp on the salad. I can't complain, but nothing hit a home run for me. So, it depends on what you are looking for.. As a place for decent food with prompt service, you can't go wrong. But, if you are looking for outstanding food, keep looking. read more

We are big fans of Bethany Boathouse and it is a must stop dining destination on every trip to Bethany Beach. Our daughter loves the pirate ship play area, which we let her run wild at while we sip an orange crush and an IPA. The food is great here. It is pretty basic, but well executed, and healthy portions. I am a big fan of the seared ahi tuna appetizer, which is served on a bed of seaweed and fried won ton chips. It's a rather big serving for an appetizer and could even be considered a lunch portion. The ahi is very fresh and seasoned well. It's a very light, but filling dish. I'm told they have an awesome happy hour where you can get crab claws for $5 if you sit at the bar. On our last trip we sat next to some folks who were simply devouring the crab claws. Bethany Boathouse is a super friendly, laid back, and fun spot to enjoy a lunch or dinner. The staff is always very pleasant and while the wait can be quite long sometimes, it's definitely worth it. read more

Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness - 3/5 We got some takeout from here and it was... OK. The best (because why bury the best) was the fries. They are waffle style and expertly seasoned. I really enjoyed them (and I'm not usually a waffle fries fan). They also give quite a bit of food per meal, so you get a great bang for your buck. My kids also devoured the chicken tenders, which definitely were high quality. The rest of the food left a lot to be desired. My wife got the chicken tacos and while there were a bunch of toppings, they came out bland. I had the fried chicken and the chicken was super greasy (not in a good way) and completely overwhelmed by the coating. There was no crunch at all to the chicken and it hit my stomach like cement (I could only eat two of the four pieces). I'm not sure how the tenders were so well-breaded and the fried chicken wasn't. The packaging of the to-go order was great. The service left a lot to be desired. I arrived a few minutes after my to-go order and it still wasn't ready. I waited approximately ten minutes and wasn't approached by any waitstaff and offered a drink or anything. A bit more attention would've been appreciated. read more

So the 4 of us stopped by on Labor Day for a drink and quickie meal and were pleasantly surprised with the experience. The price were friendly and the bar food was pretty good. I had a soft shell crab taco that actually had solid pieces of soft shell in the taco. Much better than I was expecting. Others had shrimp wrap and fish taco. My buddy made the mistake of changing his order from the shrimp boat to a pasta special. Don't order pasta at a bar on the beach! I blame him for that. This is kind of a place you end up at, not somewhere you go on purpose. At least in my experience. The atmosphere is hit or miss -- sometimes it's a bunch of fun young people, sometimes annoying young people, sometimes all older people (who can also be pretty cool or mostly lame). So I suppose that speaks to this place's versatility, which is always good, but if you're coming here looking for any particular crowd it's a toss-up. It's also extremely loud in the outside/pavilion area. Louder than I'd expect for a place that's not closed in. Their nachos were pretty good and my sister loves their pretzel. The bartenders are cool. I haven't had any of their other food so I can't say if that's worth making a special trip for, but overall every time I've been here was because someone else suggested it or there was nowhere else open. So I guess it's reliable in that sense. A lukewarm review for a lukewarm place. There's so many restaurants and bars in Bethany that Boathouse can't be one of my first choices, but if someone else wants to go there I won't say no to tagging along. read more

After many years of repeated vacations to Bethany Beach, we decided to give Bethany Boathouse a try. We probably made a mistake by choosing this restaurant for a later (past 7pm) dinner with children. Though I imagine this place would be kid friendly (It has an outdoor play area for children) and charming during the day, during the evening/night it clearly becomes more of a bar. I felt out of place with my young children, especially when they seated us at a hightop bar table next to a couple of fellas who had clearly had a few to drink already. Fortunately, the staff was happy to accomodate us when we requested to be moved to a table a little farther from the bar area, which also had more space for our party of 7. The restrooms were clean and well-stocked. The specialty burger (topped with fried clams and their special sauce) was cooked perfectly and tasted hand-pattied. The sauce overwhelmed the burger a bit, though. Next time I'll ask for it on the side. The waffle fries were delicious and the portions served were generous. The kids' fried shrimp was excellent. It appeared hand-breaded and tasted delicious. The fried grouper was also very good with a crispy outside and flakey inside. Next time we visit Bethany Boathouse with kids it will probably be for an afternoon lunch. The food was tasty and reasonably priced (the bill for 4 adults and 3 kids was about $90), so I'm sure we'll return. read more

For a Thursday afternoon this place was pretty packed and lively... good thing I was able to get on the mobile wait list... that helped a lot ! was seated within 4 mins of arriving... be warned parking is a bit of a mess since it shares a lot with the CVS next door. So was seated outside next to the outdoor bar and next to the live music which was cool since it was a nice summer day out. Ordered 2 baskets of crab claws, waffle fries, and an order of fried clam strips. The crab claws were cooked perfectly and not overly done so the meat inside was still in tact and was easily removed when you cracked into them. the waffle fries were your typical waffle fries.. The clam strips were ehhhh ... basically your typical clam strips drenched in a spicy sauce which made the breading mushy . wish they left the sauce on the side for dipping instead. read more

My girlfriends and I were looking for a delicious dinner after a long day of sightseeing and man, did we find it here at Summer Salts Beach Grill. I started with an espresso martini which was better than I had expected. Then the ahi tuna for an appetizer. Nicely seared with house made tortilla chips, avocado and the most amazing wasabi ranch dressing. Had the daily special of seafood pasta with perfectly grilled scallops, shrimp and crab on fettuccine Alfredo. The Alfredo was perfect (I typically make my own and this was comparative). I am the kind of traveler that I like to try different places to eat but I would definitely go back before leaving town! Definitely worth checking out. read more

Very nice atmosphere. This was the second time we came, very limited parking. So if you're showing up for a popular band, plan to be early. Also use this app to add yourself to the waitlist to get a table and you will get one sooner than someone who walks up and does the same. We checked the app ahead of time to see if there was a wait. There wasn't. But we took too long to get there and ended up waiting. My family owns a condo across the highway at Sea Colony so I was able to use my parking pass to park in their private lot near boathouse. But every lot next to it is either 30 minute parking for one of the stores or permit only parking. No street parking. CARPOOL. For sure. I didn't eat any seafood so I can't speak to that. But the cruzan bucket drinks were awesome and my spicy chicken sandwich was huge and delicious! They have a fun play area outside, a large ship in a sandbox, so if you're waiting with kids, it keeps them busy! An indoor and outdoor bar in case the weather isn't great! read more

We had good service and there was a cool atmosphere but it was so hard to see the games with the projector screen. It's also broken up into 4 smaller games. Go for drinks, not for the food!! I went here on a random Wednesday to have a few beers an enjoy on some happy hour specials. I sat outside on the back gazebo which was very nice. It sat over the lake and was located on coastal highway. They had no happy hour specials and never do. They have daily specials. In this case it was a pineapple crush and a Sam Adams summer ale which was 6.00. They had no food specials either. I ordered the chicken wings old bay which was delicious. The girls tending to the bar were very friendly. The total for 2 beers Sam Adams seasonal 24 ozs total and a order of chicken wings was 26.00. I guess they have live music everyday starting at 6:00. Grabbed a table on a Saturday night with friends and had a good time. They had live music, a bar area and a ton of tables that overlooked the water. I had a margarita crush that was on special and it was very good. I then had the cheesesteak queso which came on a pretzel bun with a pickle spear and I upgraded to include waffle fries. The queso here is very good and really made the meal. The experience was great though to enjoy a good vibe with the music, view and have a good time. Back again another year. This place was better in the past but has gone down. I'm not sure if they got a new chef but the food is mediocre at best. Tuna is dry as the Sahara desert and the lb of crabs is also over cooked. With that being said the bar tenders and wait staff could not have been nicer. I went to Bethany Boathouse for dinner with some friends after a day trip to Bethany beach. At the front entrance there is a outdoor kiddie park with a pirate ship. On the right there is a bar where you can seat yourself and you can also wait for a sit-down table. Initially we were told it would be 30 minutes but got seated within 5 minutes. I'm assuming a table freed up sooner than expected. We sat down and our waitress was prompt and friendly. The place has indoor seating and outdoor seating. They have live music nearly everday and have special events on their calendar for the month. All 9 of us sat near the water fountain that they have and listened to a live band which was fun. I ordered a bloody mary which tasted as if it was a pre-packaged drink and had too much ice. For the entree I ordered a Crab salad which had a small lump of crab and all lettuce for $16 which I thought was pricey. All the foods come out in either a plastic basket or paper plate to fit the casual atmosphere of the place. The waitress was very helpful and was honest about our orders. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant but with the casual atmosphere, I would recommend getting their tacos. I tried my boyfriend's pork tacos and it was delicious. I would definitely come here again to try something different next time. read more

What a great addition in Bethany beach. Casual dining with open air layout, deck, gazebo and live music too! Great for groups and families. Lots of cocktails, beer and wine to choose from. Cool decor of boat hanging from the ceiling. We came to watch a band called Decades 80s and had the best time! The drinks weren't bad for $9 But we had the chicken nachos, fish tacos and a cheeseburger and all of it was not worth the cost. I'm pretty sure the chicken in the nachos was the frozen grilled Tyson's chicken too. I won't even continue describing the food because it was not many ingredients to present but nothing special, my child could have made a better meal. I haven't been disappointed with a meal for a long time but I could have made better at home. We won't be going here ever again. You definitely walk in and at first think, another commercial beach-like establishment. It was the middle of the weekday, hot as blazes out, but you first notice the view. Surrounded by parcels of water, and gazebos, and just OPEN. Everything is open and inviting - perfect for the eastern shore selection of fish, seafood and more. We were a group of 8, and within minutes, service was with us, accommodating, and following up the whole visit. The food was exactly what I imagine when I think of an east coast menu, fresh, salty, as if you just walked in off the beach and wanted the freshest they had to offer. Even lingering afterwards, you sensed the level of comfortable everyone was feeling, and the whole aura of the establishment sets that tone. GREAT way to get the feel of the east coast, the beaches, the ability to slow it down and take in what is around you, while satisfying your palette with the best the east coast has to offer. read more

Some of the worst customer service I've ever had! We've been here before and the drinks are ok, the food is below average, but the atmosphere is nice and my daughter likes to play on the boat. We went again today and there were A TON of open tables, but we were told we would have to wait because their iPad wasn't working. The ordering system was working fine, it was only the system to seat people. Instead of having customers sit down and then figuring out the glitch, they shut down anyone from entering. I feel bad for the wait staff that is losing money because the hostesses couldn't figure out how to use a paper and pencil to record which tables were being sat. And the four women who couldn't figure this out were extremely rude! read more

The staff will hand you happy hour menus, and you will see happy hour specials posted on the walls near the hightops in the bar area, but THOSE DON"T APPLY TO YOU UNLESS YOU SIT AT THE BAR. The wait staff will not tell you that unless you ask, and its not on the signage. They will let you say the words "I want to order this off the happy hour menu" but not tell you that you are not getting that price until your bill comes, and you exclaim "WTF!?!"
