One of the worst lunches in our very long experience of going out every day. The Navy Bean soup had no beans...well, technically my husband found one in his cup and I had about 10 hidden in the thin, watery broth underneath the plethora of huge chucks of celery and onion. This was not starting off with a bang... Then, my Chicken Pot Pie consisted of a gummy and tough dough (this had to be from microwaving) over a bland filling which the salt and pepper shakers were not able to salvage. My husband's Hoagie was the doozy: an ice cold roll (straight from the refrigerator) with the most god-awful looking slices of what I can only describe as weird looking mystery meats, topped with a bit of chopped salad garnish. Not a trace of any mayonnaise or dressing on the dry roll. Absolutely inedible! One and done for us! read more

My family and I had dinner for the first time at Bethany Diner last Wed. We arrived around 6:30. It was busy but the wait time was reasonable. The food was good and the value is outstanding - large portions and you even get dessert with the specials. I enjoyed the chicken and dumplings while my hubby and parents enjoyed chicken and eggplant parmesan, though my hubby complained of a large fat vein in one chicken breast. They were unfortunately out of garlic bread so we subbed with pita bread. Service was slow unfortunately and we seemed to be forgotten/neglected. I understand they were busy but our waiter easily added a half hour to our time there. He never checked on us or asked us how the food was. We had to flag him down to order, get the pita bread, and get the check. I would give it another chance in the hopes of better service. read more

We ordered food to-go from here after a long day. The crab dip taste like paste, barely any crab or cheese. It was soupy and the pita was hard. Mozzarella sticks are definitely the type you buy in a bag. They were overcooked and inedible. The French onion soup wasn't bad and the cheesesteak quesadilla was pretty good. A cute diner in an easy to get to location. I ordered coffee, water, and a breakfast sandwich. It was good! I was sitting at a booth facing the front door and I noticed a few times that the host/ carry out person had to keep going back to the kitchen to pick up the to go orders. First time here, will definitely be back; Christine waited our table, and was wonderful with my niece and nephew. Christine was very dutiful. The food, oh my wonderful, every bite, I had an egg white Bethany Omelette and it was delicious! The table, the seven (six orders) of us, there were fluffy eggs, large pancakes, bagel and egg sammies, nearly all of us cleaned our plates. Considering how many people were in the diner, it was much quieter than one would've thought. That being the case, I could hear conversations at my table, without having to ask people to speak up. I am a local and have been eating at this restaurant over the years. Recently I have been doing takeout more often because of my health issues. Unfortunately, the last couple times my husband and I have gotten takeout we have been disappointed. We have noticed several things that have changed .. paid items missing from our order, portions being smaller, and taste not as good as it used to be. I love the eggplant parmigiana but the last couple times it has been made not the same .. lack of cheese and eggplant and pasta had no taste. The garlic bread was soggy and the bread pudding was in the smallest take out container that I've ever seen. I hope they make changes .. I'd hate to stop ordering from them. Great service and good food for the price. Hard to beat best deal in town with a lot of food that includes dessert. I give a 5-star for the diner category. It is not gourmet but everything was prepared nicely. My complaints: bland taste like most diners that cater to seniors (nothing that old bay couldn't solve) and my free dessert was so and so; nothing special but I am picky. Parking is tight and it gets full pretty quick. I went off season so I didn't need a reservation but for sure you will need one in the summer. Highly recommended read more

Stopped by for lunch on a Friday and was seated quick. We had a great waiter who was very attentive and went above and beyond for us. We have eaten there several times since moving to the area last spring. It's a diner and serves it purpose. The meals are good. The staff is great Last night we went for dinner for one of their two for thirty specials. The soups taste like they are made in house. I have the spilt pea and it was very nice. Husband had the cram of crab. It's too thick too pasty for my tastes but tastes like crab I ordered the ultimate diner food - liver and onions and please don't over cook it I rarely eat this but I was willing to be disappointed. I was not. It was perfectly cooked. What I didn't like was the brown gravy that covered. Definitely a dry mix Husband had meatloaf and it was ok meaty not greasy but that same brown gluey gravy. I like this place. But what was amazingly disappointing was the bread pudding. It was terrible!!! How hard is it to messs this up. Dry. Tough. Nothing more than chunks of bread with canned whipped cream on top. I don't like pudding. Especially canned stuff. The other options would be rice or chocolate pudding bleh! I will return. It's ok. So my darling and I came down to Bethany for the week and we stopped into the Bethany Diner for dinner and WOW! We both had the turkey dinner and we have been eating it for two days now! We came here for a sunday morning breakfast at around 9 am. There were a lot of people waiting, but we were seated at the counter within 10 minutes. We decided to get the breakfast buffet that consisted of scrambled eggs, biscuits, waffles, pancakes, sausage, scrappers, ham, fresh fruit and gravy. The buffet area was replenished regularly. The fruit was fresh, french toast was delicious, the eggs were cooked well. If you are looking to eat healthy, the buffet is not for you. However, they also have menu items to order for more breakfast options. The silverware was not the cleanest, so we made sure to clean them before using. read more

However over the years the quality of the food has gone down drastically and we've found that every time we go, the food makes us sick. Down here on vacation and since this place is close, we ordered dinner. We ordered two short stacks with bacon (add chocolate chips) and a crispy chicken wrap with no tomato or ranch and a side of Buffalo sauce and honey mustard with CRISPY fries. The owner took my order on the phone- no total- and said the order would be ready in 20 minutes. We walked in and the place was busy but our food was ready. The hostess gave me the total for my THREE items- $48.. I was beside myself. I asked to speak with the owner bc that sounded outrageous for 3 items ordered. I was informed that chocolate chips cost $4.99 per order of pancakes EXTRA (no mention on the menu, website, or when I placed the order). I informed the owner that I own a restaurant where I am from and understand making a profit but these charges were outrageous. He then said we should trade receipts and was very condescending as he tried to mansplain to me about running a business and costs, etc. He agreed to give me a "discount" of $4.99 with no other explanation besides that's just how I do things. Got home and saw I received (2) 2oz. Dressings that I was charged $2.50/pc for- price gauging at its finest. The fries were just shy of cooked, definitely not crispy like I ordered AND the $10 chocolate chip addition barely covered the tops of the pancakes- when cut into , no chocolate chips through the pancakes. Gross food, WAY OVER PRICED, and the overall vibe was meh (probably due to the way the owner talks down to people). Save your money, your time, your appetite, and find somewhere delicious to eat-- THIS PLACE IS NOT IT and I would advise everyone to AVOID at all costs! read more

If you are looking for really good, affordable food, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, stop looking. You will definitely find it here. And the portions will satisfy the biggest appetite! from the omelets and pancakes, etc., at breakfast, to the huge salads and sandwiches at lunch, to the international and down home comfort food dishes at dinner, you will always leave happy, full and probably toting a take home box, because you couldn't finish your meal! What you will also find is small town warm hospitality, from the servers to the owner! Bethany Diner offers Covid-19 precautions for take out, delivery and dine-in.
