Three straight Saturdays, I have gone to the store on my way to my friend's house at around 9 p.m. to buy craft beer. Three straight times there has been a loud, talkative guy in his 50s standing by the cash register after he has completed his transaction who doesn't leave after paying and who gives me a dirty look when I come up to buy my beer. The store clerk is super nice and does not seem to notice that the loitering customer doesn't like being interrupted in their conversation. It's the most unprofessional thing I've seen in a long time. If the friendly clerk leads the customer to think that he can just stand there and have a long conversation, that's nuts. I doubt I will go back. There are other places I can get craft beer nearby.

On the surface four for $5 sounds pretty good. Except that a couple days before, I bought 48 bottles for $5 at Vons. I wish I remembered to pack some! The next day we realized that we needed paper towels and four more bottles of water. Escaped for around $10. The price we pay for convenience, I guess. Guy at the register was friendly.

But I didn't, and now weeks later, Chips Liquor has over $700 from me with nothing to show for it. I received an email from Rivani on 7/1 claiming that they had been waiting on one bottle, and promised to ship the items on 7/2. Since then, they have gone completely radio silent and ignored any further attempts at communication. The package hasn't shipped, attempts at phone calls have been unsuccessful, and messages sent either through the website contact form or via email have been ignored. So now I'm having to go through the hassle of disputing the payment to get my money back. If you're local and can visit the store, it may be a completely different experience -- but if you're considering placing an online order for shipping, I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere...

The employee told me they didn't have it and offered a substitute. When she rang it up, the price came out to $75. I questioned it, and she said she thought I was buying a different bottle. After that, she adjusted the price, but it still ended up being $50. It was late at night and there weren't many other places open, so I bought it anyway. When I got home, I realized the bottle was a maple-flavored whiskey--not a straight rye like I had asked for. What confused me is that if they didn't have the rye, there were plenty of regular bourbons on the shelf that would have been a closer substitute. Instead I was sold a more expensive flavored whiskey that I didn't ask for. To be fair, I could have paid closer attention before leaving the store. But the whole interaction felt off, and it left me with the impression that the substitute was chosen to move a more expensive product rather than match what I asked for. That was my experience. Update: A commenter here says they spoke with the store and that my review is "incorrect," and then describes a different version of the interaction. The commenter was not present for the exchange I experienced. Their account is based on what someone told them afterward. My review reflects what I personally experienced during that visit. Second-hand explanations after the fact don't change what happened from the customer side of the counter.
