I like looking around in BevMos. From the obvious vast types of alcohol they have available to salami, cheese, nuts, chips, pickled products, bottled soda, chocolate bars and seasonal items, I end up often buying stuff I don't need but gotta have ;) I have been to a lot of BevMo locations, but this one is seriously the best one I have ever set foot in. It is located in the Long Beach Marketplace Shopping Center towards the back of the center. Upon walking in, I was welcomed by the cashier in the front. While checking out bloody mary mixes in the aisles, another staff member said hello. I was in the store for two gift purchases and after finding the one liquor purchase I wanted, I headed to the cashier to ask about a certain wine I was looking for for a family member. She could not locate it on the computer but asked the "wine guy" staff member, and he found the cab for me right away. I was very pleased as the price was good for this bottle, also. I always end up with some mini alcohol bottle in my cart on my way out every time I am here also ;) They are great to drop into a gift bag or a cheap way to try a shot of a certain type of booze. This location is definitely not the biggest or fanciest BevMo I have visited, but I will definitely be back here if I am in the area, as the staff makes shopping here a very easy and pleasant experience. read more

The two stars is for the amound of stuff they carry. I came in on a Tuesday looking to get a Keg for a Sunday (July 3rd) and they only had 3 options available. They "couldn't order anymore" because they didn't sell out pacifico, budlight and modelo for memorial day. What do YOU MEAN you can't order anymore? The man helping us was not so helpful, and seemed like he couldn't care at all to help us out. Thanks Bevmo! I will not be coming back here, I'll take my money further to total wine. They have beverages and more...except for a knowledgeable staff. Why work in a wine store when you don't know jack about, oh I don't know, WINE?! That's why I save my wine buying for real boutique or specialty wine stores -- people know what they're talking about and if they don't, they have other tools to search for your desired bottle. Also, I am a Bevmo card holder -- but somehow, after 2 years of membership, my information is no longer stored in their system. And never mind swiping a universal card or actually looking me up by anything other than my phone number. I know, that is too much to ask for in these busy times. Luckily, a nice lady offered to let me use her card for a $5 savings on a bottle of Zin. Thanks. I really don't care to visit Bevmo for my wine needs....it's just like a Vons for alcoholic beverages...and most the time, they don't have anything special. Yep, Megan's right. I am lazy. Since she threw down the gauntlet, I figured I better get off my ass and write a review for Bevmo! (I really hate all these businesses with exclamation points. I'm gonna start a business with a question mark after the name.) So anyway, I stumbled upon the surprise "soft" opening that was a day before the official grand opening. I have not been in a Bevmo! (see, it just makes me look like I'm excited when I'm really not.) for quite a few years, and not all that much has changed. They still have shitloads of booze! (that one was on purpose. ok, I'll stop now.) They have three locked display cases of Tequila. I think the Vodka selection took up two entire rows. I was very impressed with the customer service I received. The employees I spoke with all seemed very knowledgeable and eager to help. I was very pleased with the bottle of Pinot that was highly recommended to us. I still don't know if the prices are all that great, but their selection is hard to top. I have to deduct a star for not having doors accessing the inner part of the shopping center. There are a lot of businesses that could benefit from the foot traffic coming out of the store. Oooh, I almost forgot... It was very cool getting to meet my 1st Yelp celebrity, Megan G. She is even more awesome in person! read more

I went to BevMo at 6521 E Pacific Coast Hwy on Sunday July 24. Although I was in the process of filling a carthad a cart when I ended up walking out over the rude and embarrassing treatment by one of the cashiers. There were two cashiers on duty around 2pm when when I needed a price check. A young woman and young man. Both had one customer they were checking out and the male cashier had a second customer waiting. As I rounded the corner I saw that both cashiers were finishing up with their current customers so i went to the woman cashiers line. She looked up and said "You're not next"! and proceeded to call over to the customer in the male cashiers line and told him she would help him. Now I have shopped at BevMo many times in the before and I have never been aware that there was a queue area to wait for the next available cashier. I was quite stunned by the remark and considered it quite rude since she was implying that I was trying to cut in front of someone or "break" in line. I stood there in disbelief. A third employee came up and asked if he could help me and I obtained the price I needed. However the damage had been done. I was embarrassed and angry over such rudeness. When I found my partner who was also shopping in BevMo, I told him that I was upset and leaving. Of course he was upset at how I was treated and left his selections to leave with me. Needless to say I will not be shopping at BevMo in the future. Fortunately there is a better source with much friendlier staff on Carson. read more

I was all set to hem and haw about giving BevMo four stars - how I feel bad about shopping here instead of non-chain stores, for instance - but you know what? Eff that bougie guilt. I shop at chain stores for much the same reason you all do - consistency, selection, convenience, and affordability. BevMo pretty much has these qualities down, so that's how it earns my four stars. The only thing missing is sterling customer service - it ranges from good to merely passable, but it's not usually bad enough to deduct from the overall experience. Yeah, yeah, everyone knows about the 5 cent wine sale, but frankly, I'm not all that well-versed in wine, so picking up nickel bottles is just an exercise in blind luck. I'd rather go somewhere like Hi-Time, where the staff seems much more knowledgable, in order to get recommendations. No, I come here for a better beer selection than just about any store in the area. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to discover new craft brews at local hangouts like Brix, but when I want to bring some home, there's no better place for beer variety. I'd highly recommend picking up bottles and growlers from local breweries like Bootlegger's or Bruery, but for other domestic microbrews and foreign imports from breweries you can't just simply drive to, you won't find a more diverse array of bottled bliss than here. It's great for trying out new varieties and expanding your palate, but BevMo's also good for sticking with the tried-and-true (and usually for a cheaper price than your corner liquor store - sorry Benson's, it's the truth). read more

"I'm not drinking any f**king merlot." That's right, Sideways fans, I really love pinot, and when I went in to check out BevMo, I was really judging the place on their pinot noir selection and customer service above all else. Honestly couldn't care less about the beer and glass wear selection or any other kind of wine really. I had been eyeing this place since long before it opened, since I always check out the pinot section at any place that carries wine from Stater Bros to the neighborhood liquor store to places like Angelo's and Olives. I'm by no means a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like, and I know some really good pinots that I've had, and I found so many hard-to-find (for me, anyway) varieties at BevMo, I had to control myself from blowing hundreds of dollars. So, if you want to know what I picked up, here was my shopping list: - Carmel Road (a pinot - shocking, I know) - Summerland pinot (amazing 2004 pinot I had at their tasting, but haven't been able to find it since anywhere other than at Nico's BTG; bottle I bought was a 2006) - Au Bon Climat pinot - what we always order at Frenchy's. Fantastic. So there you are. My assessment was great, reasonably priced pinots (key) and a really nice guy at the register too. So, all of you can kiss my big fancy BevMo card. read more

Okay, so maybe that's a wee dramatic (I am using wee in honor of the upcoming Irish holiday) - but, I felt I was being a bit ripped off when hubby and I came here over the weekend to "take advantage" of the 5 cent sale. First of all, Bevmo, do you know who I am? Clearly you don't know how much wine I actually consume. I am pretty much at Ralph's on a daily basis to refill my Chardonnay collection. So, imagine my surprise to see some wines...like Pepperwood for a whopping $12.99? This is one of my cheap choices at Ralph's - coming in around $5.99. So, I stuck to the 9.99 wines I have yet to see at Ralphs as far as the sale went. So far, they've been just ok. I just wanted to warn you all that this place clearly doubles its price per bottle to make up for that second bottle. Do yourself a favor. If you like wine and you live near a Ralph's...go there instead - Ralph's cards are like the keys to the kingdom! read more

So it was Friday evening, now bored of so much PS3, i decide to go shopping for some stuff to make me a Cosmo (hence i had to throw the PS3 line in there lol) so i ended up at BevMo on PCH. Plenty of parking as usual, on a nice well located strip mall with couple of other popular places like Trader Joe's, CPK etc... I grabbed a basket (which quickly turned into a two level shopping cart lol) and headed my way to get some Absolut citron and triple sec... I ended up with 4 bottles of Chardonnay, 4 bottles of Pinot Noir, 2 Merlot, 3 bottles of Riesling, a triple sec and an Absolut citron lol This store is very small, i mean i felt crowded while walking around the 5c deal area, But their customer service, despite the limited number of people working, was A+ You really can't complain much about a place that gives you a $20 bottle of Pinot and an extra for 5c that is also well located with a friendly and helpful staff (note i didn't say knowledgeable) I've read people complain about the quality of the wine but go ahead and find out by yourself, that's how you educate your palate, not just listening to the ramblings of 5.99 wine drunks. Granted, prices are not always good but in this particular occasion i feel i got my moneys worth. read more

So, there's this place in Lexington, KY, called Liquor Barn. It's the best damn liquor store you'll ever see and nothing could ever top it. BevMo is the next best thing, and that's about as good as any liquor store that's not Liquor Barn could hope to do. read more

I think the only place that has a larger variety of alcohol for sale is the internet itself. But at least here, you can talk to somebody directly and get some feedback about what to buy. Some people love their wine selection. And with the 5¢ sale, who wouldn't? And I like their selection of craft beers a lot. I can spend hours browsing through beer I can't afford to buy (but buy anyway). From local San Diego favs from my youth, to Belgian trappist powerhouses, to crazy local small batches, there's always something good to try. But the one thing I love the most, and it often goes unappreciated, is their selection of sodas. World Market is a close second, but BevMo almost always has obscure sodas I thought didn't exist any more. And a few more that I never heard of, like Maine-based Capt'n Eli's Blueberry Pop (pfft, "pop". Silly east coast). My favorite is Moxie cola, and I can always count on BevMo to carry it. This Bevmo may be smaller than most, but they pack the booze to the ceiling to fit it all in. And if the nearby Trader Joe's doesn't have what I am looking for, I count on BevMo to have it, no problem. read more

Love the layout and quaint feel of this location - is easily my favorite. The selection of alcohols is superior to all the other BevMo's I have been to. Everything is always clean and well organized. The only challenge is sometimes the parking here is kinda lame...but I'll deal with it. read more

They have almost everything. It's a pretty small BevMo compared to the one where I used to live. They do NOT have Blue Bay Coconut Rum. Service is great. Everyone is friendly here. Other than that, your typical great alcohol stop BevMo. read more

This BevMo is a-ight. I didn't appreciate getting accosted by slightly kooky-sounding 'wine rep' in the reds section, or having to look for someone to help me open the tequila section. Ah, BevMo, how I love thee. Let me count the ways.. If there was ever a religion based around alcohol, BevMo would be it's Mecca. I would skip through their aisles merrily whistling a jaunty tune if I wasn't sure that it would end with me stumbling drunkenly into a display and hurting myself. BevMo! is the wonderland for drunken adults (that's me!). They have such a big selection, you're bound to find whatever obscure alchohol you're looking for. For example, at a friend's house one night, I had some vodka that rocked my world. Smooth and silky, flavor (who knew vodka had flavor?!) and little to no hangover afterward. I searched and searched to find this particular brand of vodka for MONTHS and was unsuccessful - until I discovered BevMo! Of course they had this beautiful, unattainable, refreshing vodka! And for only $25! Their selection of micro-brewery beers is amazing, as is their wine selection. And don't even get me started on the 5 cent sale! Tip - If you love champagne like I do, try Wilson Creek Almond Champagne. It's sweeter than regular champ and SO delicious! read more

I usually buy wine/champagne when they have their special: buy 1 get the 2nd one for a nickel (seems to me that by law they cannot give it for free). The cold section is not that big so you may not find a cold beer you are looking for. You can even order online and pick it up in an hour if you are short on time. Okay, so it's a chain, but it is pretty decent. For a recent gift and a party I was able to get some great glassware at a very reasonable price, and then the specialty liquor bottles were acceptably priced also. I did look for some input and guidance in the selection process, and the manager quickly came out to try to help; she was helpful in that she knew what was selling and what her customers were buying more of compared to other things, and presumably that's a guide to what the clientele thinks is good, but the store did not have a lot of "expertise" or specialized knowledge on liquor products. Been going to this BevMo for at least 6 years. Parking is always convenient and open. I think more people park at the Trader Joe's location, while the people that do go into BevMo are in and out of there pretty quickly. Anyways, no problems with parking. The bf and I like going to this BevMo mainly because of the shopping center it is in. Trader Joe's, Creative Cakery, Veggie Grill, Nekter Juice...lots of good stores around to just stroll around. Lots of different liquor that you can get, like all other BevMo's. Typically, if I need to find something in particular, this BevMo has it, or I go to Total Wines and More in Huntington Beach. Anyways, the last experience I had was pretty good. Bf wanted a list of stuff. I'm the alcoholic in the relationship, so I actually tend to just wander everywhere and grab stuff I like (read: bourbon, rum, beer), instead of finding specific things. Anyways, I needed to find Marsala, sweet and sour mix, and Cointreau. I guess I looked pretty lost or out of place, but an attendant found me, asked if I needed help, and I gratefully recruited his help. I showed him the list, and he went charging forward to find the Marsala. They did have Marsala, but only one brand, and it was either Sweet or Dry. I picked out the dry. Next was Cointreau, which he had a good idea on what it was, but wasn't 100% sure because neither one of us could even pronounce the name correctly. He found it, dead on, once I was able to verify that I recognized it. Next was sweet and sour mix. He found that dead on. Dropped by today as I typically do on the weekends to pick up a couple bottles of wine. An employee recommended that I choose a couple different bottles under their buy 1 get 1 at 5 cent promotion. When I got to the checkout, one of the bottles wasn't ringing a properly, they called for a manager who walked me back to the area and saw the exact sign I pulled from an was recommended by one of their employees. Dan "The Man" as noted on his badge immediately told me that he would not honour the price. Before I could even get a word out, he handed me back the other bottle and asked me to walk them backup to the register where I had to wait in line again. He could have easily taken care of me at the sign price and then changed it afterwards but he made a big deal about it. I will probably be shopping for my wine elsewhere at this point.
