Sunday around noon. 4 of us for brunch. We ordered various items and asked for separate checks. I ordered a Denver omelette, $10.95 on the menu. I ordered Irish hash browns listed as included on the menu. I also asked the price of a quart of soup to go. Waitress said $12, so I ordered one. I left $3 on the table for a tip. I went to pay. No receipts were given. She told me $36 and change. I also told her I was using a card and left a cash tip. I knew $36 was wrong. They were charging me $2.62 for a credit card. And a tip for $4.15. And the soup was $12.95 and my omelette was $13.95. Beware! They said the menus were old and if I looked at the cover there was a note about prices. Who looks at the cover? So I had to pay the higher prices. I used cash and got the pre charged tip back. What a nightmare! And it was the same for everyone in our party. Food is subpar along with service as they only had two servers. The waitress told us the prices were incorrect on the menu and that they hadn't received the new menus. They also automatically charge you a service charge. I said no wonder service was terrible, you're getting your tip regardless. Extremely bad service. I placed my order to include Obrien potatoes, returned home only to find i was given hash brown. I called and was told i needed to bring order back to be corrected. So i drive back upon arrival im told we dont Obrien thats why we gave u hash brown REALLY. I am not five and should be given the option to pick my food and you had two chances to tell me Obrien werent an option. Was looking for a place recently for a late lunch...since I had to run an errand in this area, I saw the review on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Got there and seated myself right away...after looking at the menu several times I decided to try their Country Skillet as it sounded good.... I was not disappointed...the skillet was very flavorful....seemed to have some kind of extra seasoning (almost tasted like taco seasoning) which made it a bit on the salty side (with the addition of sausage and bacon too). All in all a good place....got that sort of home cooking vibe here...only minor complaint was that I didn't get a refill on my pop...but then I did have a nice sized glass of water to go with it.... read more

Treated myself to a birthday breakfast on Tuesday. Diner-type atmosphere. Been here many times. I had Juan's omelet with hash browns and white buttered toast. The food was excellent. HOWEVER, as usual, the servers were extremely obnoxious with their loud voices and screeching the length of the diner. There were five total customers in the restaurant, so it wasn't loud - EXCEPT for the waitresses who were huddled in the back talking to each other about as loud as they could muster. Not a very relaxing meal for me, I must say. And while I enjoy their food, I don't think I will be returning. Just don't understand the reason for all of the loud shouting and chattering. I popped in while visiting my mom at Little Company of Mary Hospital, expecting something like a Jewish deli, but found a Mexicanized American diner. The servers are delightful, and the veggie skillet was perfect: a pile of fresh veggies, no heavy carbs, and a bowl of their own salsa. I ordered it with mozzarella cheese (extra) and it was quite possibly the best skillet I've ever had. The place was empty when I arrived, and I wondered why they steered me to a table for one -- but it was packed by the time I left, and deservedly so. There were lots of good-looking Mexican dishes on the lunch and dinner menu, and I'll be back to check those out. read more

Reading some of these bad reviews leaves me mystified that they could be reviewing Bialy's! Granted I have not been to the Evergreen Park location and am going on what I know about the location on 159th in Orland Park because it isn't loaded in the database yet, but Bialy has to be the nicest most hard working owner you could meet! I read about patrons that say the owner was rude or mean to them and I can't believe how they could say this because she says "Hi" to almost everyone who comes thru the door and knows most of her regulars. Not only that, I would bet she would want the cooks to make your meal over to your satisfaction or give it to you free! A lot of times she is outside planting flowers around the outside parking lot and greets you when you walk in! I've never had a bad meal at Orland location yet. All the waitresses help each other and they cross each others stations to make sure everyone's coffee is full and are the friendliest waitstaff of any restaurant in the metro area! Can't say about the EP location but if owned by Bialy, she would want to help any way she could as far as I have seen her act, so can't believe statements to the contrary! read more

Not a bad breakfast joint in the area! They have great options for Mexican meals! I always try to get the Mexican skillet or a dish with chorizo, it's so good! In the past I have had good experiences at this establishment. Having lived in the neighborhood for about 5 years now, I found this to be a cozy diner close to home with decent food, decent customer service at a very affordable cost. My families favorite has been their skillets with scrambled eggs (so many options to choose). Unfortunately after several years of dining in, I have to give 1 star for a decline in the quality of food and disappointing customer service. I'll provide 3 examples of my dissatisfaction, all from take out experiences that occurred across 3 separate occasions 1. Wait time (strike 1): Our call-in/take-out orders have never been ready by the time they tell us to arrive to the point we have to wait at least 10 and sometimes 20 minutes for them to get it together. Parking is tough so the prolonged wait time can be annoying. To ease our nerves about waiting in an already small restaurant, we started adding on an additional 10 min to whatever time they gave which helped a little. 2. Food quality (strike 2): On more than 1 occasion, our pancakes have tasted like onions which makes me feel like they prepare them on the same grill or too close to some of the other savory dishes they make. We had to stop ordering pancakes to avoid that issue which sucks because we prefer pancakes over toast. 3. Customer service was the last straw (strike 3): Most recently, they gave us the wrong sides for our fajita order (pancakes instead of flour tortillas). When we called to explain, the woman who answered was apologetic and instructed us to return to claim our fajitas. When we did so, the person who took our initial order was there to greet, was reluctant to hand over the tortillas, failed to apologize for the error and instead made it seem like we were being dishonest about the mix up which was VERY insulting. It's possible the food and service will improve as COVID fears are minimized but I think we're just going to find a new breakfast spot in the neighborhood. Customer service is a huge deal and as a black female, I genuinely felt disrespected in the last encounter. I wish the business well and hope they consider training/developing their staff to be kinder to customers of all kinds. read more

This is my first bad Yelp review and honestly, I wouldn't leave one if my experience wasn't so bad. I was only here because I was visiting someone in Little Company of Mary Hospital across the street. When I first walked in, it was empty except for a couple others, so one of the servers told me I can sit anywhere I'd like. As I was walking over to a seat, she changed her mind and rudely assigned me a seat close to the kitchen. Okay, fine. Then I was given a menu by another server, who seemed sweet at first. I ordered the two egg veggie skillet, but opted out of having any of their listed sides (pancake, toast, hash browns) because of my dietary restrictions. When my order came, however, it was literally just a veggie skillet with no eggs. I politely let her know that my eggs were missing and she said "I thought you didn't want anything on the side". And I was like yes..no toast or pancakes or hash browns but wanted the eggs. Aren't breakfast egg skillets supposed to commonly be cooked with eggs? Lol. Okay, okay, people make mistakes. I forgave her. She didn't apologize but she did have a side order of scrambled eggs brought to me, but it was absolutely flavorless because it wasn't cooked in with the other contents of the skillet. Definitely not the way eggs in skillet are supposed to taste, from my experience. At the end, while finishing up eating the veggies in the skillet, to my surprise I took a bite of a piece of bacon (in my VEGGIE skillet) that was awful for me because I don't eat pork because of religious reasons. I let the server know when she saw that I looked a bit nauseous/disgusted (I can't help it, my face is expressive haha.) However she quickly turned defensive when I told her what I had bit into. She vehemently denied it and even grabbed my silverware to search through the skillet to prove there was no bacon. I told her I already bit into it and it was just a small piece but she didn't believe me. It made an unnecessary scene, really. I am not the type that vocally complains at restaurants and I usually give the benefit of the doubt. But this was a very unpleasant experience all around. I just paid for the meal + tip in cash and just left it on the table anyway because I'm polite, and walked out. They saw me walking out and didn't bother apologizing or saying anything. Only gave 1 star because it's required! My wife and I attempted to order food from this establishment but was unable to because they are PURPOSELY not taking phone orders. Also my wife then went to the restaurant, thinking there was an issue with their phones and when she arrived she was told that they are not taking phone orders at this time. My wife then asked if she could just order now while in the restaurant and was told by the employee that she could not because "other customers are waiting for their food, so we are not doing carry out". So your restaurant is not taking carry out during a pandemic and your restaurant is filled to capacity with no visible signs of social distancing. We have been going here since before the pandemic and was supporting the restaurant throughout the pandemic! So now this place has lost VERY, VERY loyal customers! read more

This afternoon was my third time coming here. The food is great but the service is incredibly slow. Today was definetely my last time dining here. After the server dropped off our food we were not checked on once. After we finished up eating we sat with our dirty plates waiting for the server to come so we can get boxes and the check for well over 25 minutes. Meanwhile there were about only 3 other tables in there and we could see our server talking with other employees. Finally we got up to just pay the cashier and leave. When we got up there our server just handed the cashier our bill with not one apology given to me and my fiancé for the lack of service. Today I placed an uber order and of course specified what I'd like to order. However, I received something quite different. Upon calling I was told I could return to receive my corrected order. I placed an ONLINE order because I did not wish to leave my home. Not only did I need to go pickup my order, but was told to bring the other order back. It's that against food sanitation standards, Covid common sense? I wasn't even offered a glass of water for my inconvenience. I go in there and they sit me down at a cramped wobbly table and ripped up booth that was manufactured circa 1960. I move my leg and water is splashing on the table. I was served watered down coffee, watered down chocolate milk and watered down orange juice. My son is 5 and my daughter is 10. I ordered them pancakes. The kids menu should be around $5 each and should have included drinks. Guess what, the bill comes and I'm like howcome I was charged the adult portion. And charged for the drinks. I complained and nothing was taken off my bill, I feel I was treated very unfairly and will never be going there again. This place is a gem! You might miss it while driving by. But once inside you are exposed to the great staff. They are friendly and welcoming. They helped me out the first time in with the menu. After that I off to the races. The food is beyond good. I usually go for Juan's Omelet, the meat lover one. With just the right combination of meat it's hearty. I went to this restaurant September 2014. This was such a disappointment from last year when we visited. The waitress that waited on us, had on a uniform and apron that were very dirty. I asked that all the food would be cooked well. She brought me undercooked pancakes and when I mentioned it, she yelled at me, "you said well down eggs" only. I had said well done eggs, bacon and pancakes. When we went to pay the check, the owner was sitting eating and totally ignored us. Bialy's is a decent place to go for breakfast or a diner-style lunch/dinner. Very basic food, sometimes just okay but often outstanding...if you get the chef on the right day. I like their Mexican breakfasts (day or night). Most of the time, the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. But sometimes you pull the short straw and get The Unhappy Waitress. Then you feel like you're asking for her firstborn child if you request more coffee. It's a clean restaurant and they change the decor seasonally, which is a nice, homey touch. They also offer fountain service--their malts are good, but I haven't tried their chocolate soda yet. It's hard to find places that will still make a chocolate soda, so that should be interesting. They raised their prices when they updated their menu not too long ago. Since doing so, they have gone from "reasonable" to "midrange", although if you choose wisely you can still get a lot of bang for your buck. The old menu offered a "muffin muncher" (!!!!!) which no one I've ever dined with has had the nerve to order. I don't know if that's still an option. Sometimes I wonder about people who write menus for a living. read more

We ordered a breakfast meal (2 pancakes, scrambled egg, potatoes o'brien, sausage and bacon) and stuffed french toast (thick french toast stuffed with whipped cream, strawberries, bananas, and caramel), a side of bacon and one over easy egg. When we received the order, we didn't get the pancakes, the potatoes o'brien was substituted for fried potatoes, instead of the stuffed french toast, we got plain french toast, the bacon was over cooked and the egg was under cooked. Not returning. The Covid awareness here is non-existent. The food is ok but waitress holding conversation with customer right above my table and when I voiced my concerns she snaps at me. Unfortunate that waitress can have such an impact on the restaraunt . When I tried to relate this to manager she just ignored me. I was upset and left my breakfast uneaten. As I left after paying my billI heard manager yell to the waitress not to worry. Not to worry about social distancing and inside eating during covid! Advising all in my circle, some who are long time customers, to stay away. They are not taking this Covid-19 serious. But I can over look that because that's how good my Steak Fajita Skillet was . The steak was juicy and tender , but the onions were a bit overwhelming for me . Me and a friend came to eat breakfast at this restaurant, I had a piece of metal in my hashbrowns, I told the waiter about it and she got my plate and came back with some uncooked hashbrowns. I told her about the hashbrowns and said I didn't want it. I ask to speak with a manager. The lady told the waiter she dont wont to come over there, when she came, she was talking to us like we was little kids, we just explain to her about the food, she got mad and was like don't pay and don't come back, because people come in and eat and don't want to pay, I'm like I will pay for one plate bit not the one with the metal and uncooked hashbrowns, my plate was still a full plate, I didn't eat nothing but a bite and I didn't want to keep bring my plate back to the cook to fix the problem. She told me and my friend to don't pay for nothing and don't come back, I was shock and hurt and I was still trying to pay for one plate. Been here several times for breakfast and overall the food is good. In fact the Chilequiles with Chorizo for breakfast are fantastic. So I do recommend the Mexican breakfast food. For dinner one day recently we decided to get Mexican food. The food was tasty and portioned well but not super hot. The problem I had was when adding cheese (normally not on them) to the tacos it was $3 and it was cubes. The small guacamole we ordered came with 5 chips.....when used to all the Mexican places on the south side that serve guacamole with a full basket of chips for the same price or cheaper it was a little disappointing. So in essence the food is good but the cost is deceivingly not what you'd expect of an affordable diner. I will say they do have the best refried beans anywhere-hands down. read more
