When the server placed the appetizer (lobster crab cake) on the table I noticed it needed a drizzle of sauce or at the very least plated with sauce.; but I will say it was flavorful. It took about 10-15 minutes before our server showed up to take our drink order. By then, we already memorized the menu and placed our entire food and drink order. As we waited for our appetizers, the restaurant started to fill up. The tables around us got seated, and 2 large groups of 10 also were seated. An HOUR later, we finally get our appetizers while the tables around us got their appetizers and their entrees. Some were closing out their tabs. We asked our server and he said the kitchen was backed up. Even if the kitchen was backed up, why were folks seated after us getting their meals before us. We had to placate my mother who wanted to walk out. The most frustrating part was the 2 large parties who were seated at least 30 minutes after us, got their appetizers and entrees BEFORE us. Bibas at the Hale Koa has changed a lot over the years. They only offer lunch and dinner. They tout their seafood, but the fish they typically have isn't very good. I'm assuming it's locally caught so you get what's around here, which is a bad selection. I recommend the burger and the ribeye, which were both excellent. The service is hit and miss. The Mai Tai was definitely one of the best I have had so far. We walked in at 6 without reservations but it was a Thursday night. The dining room is large and accommodates large parties very easily and has patio seating. Our waiter Jacob was friendly and helpful. We had the macadamia nut covered snapper, steak salad and the half roasted chicken. Our dinners came with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed zucchini which were both good. The Caesar salad was delish and the dressing was very tasty. We chose this restaurant as we had just checked into the hotel and were hungry. Restaurant located within the Hale Koa hotel on the bottoms floor. We were staying there for the Honolulu marathon and it is busy everywhere. We called to make a reservation for 6 adults and a toddler on a Saturday evening and we got seated on time. It was quite busy and service was ok. I got the steak salad and they didn't really have many vegan/vegetarian options. My brother got a salad that had some non-meat items on it and he just asked for those pieces but they said they couldn't. My parents and cousin had the fish. It was pretty a pretty expensive meal but I think that's the price of things nowadays. read more

I was so nervous to eat here based on the vast amount of different reviews on here. I'm glad we did though because it really wasn't that bad. First the place was very clean and it really is beautiful. We opted to eat outside and it was just as spotless as the inside. We made a reservation and I'm glad we did because there ended up being a long wait tonight (a Tuesday night) and the restaurant was actually packed, we saw maybe 2 tables not being occupied. Food came out really quick and was pretty good. I already had low expectations because it's a military hotel and I've had the crappy defac food so I knew this had to be similar or at least a step up. Mashed potatoes were good, they tasted like the Idahoan $1 garlic instant pack you can get at the store. I personally enjoy that so it wasn't a let down for me. Veggies were cooked perfect where they were soft but still a little crunchy, nice seasoning on them as well. Portions were HUGE for us, especially my husbands baby back ribs. He said they were cooked perfectly, nice amount of sauce, and super flavorful. He really loved his meal and was very impressed. He thought his was worth the price. As far as the steak and shrimp go. I asked for medium, my steak was over cooked BUT it was still buttery and melt in your mouth. I was impressed that it was mostly meat and barely any fat. My shrimp were cooked very well, nice and juicy. My major complaint was that pele sauce. It literally tasted like the worst Alfredo you could find on the shelf at the store and then a bunch of cayenne dumped into it. It was disgusting and did not pair well with the steak at all. They took a beautifully seasoned and decently cooked steak and smothered it in the cheapest most disgusting sauce they could find. Thankfully I was able to scrape most of the sauce off and then I enjoyed my meal much more. Based on the experience today, I'd eat here again. I came in to Bibas for Dinner the other night, and The Bartender Brian took care of me so well. I asked him what the fresh catch was and he sold me, and then i asked him for a craft cocktail made by him on the fly, as he usually does for me when i come in, it was fantastic, and well balanced. Shawn, the bartender was a jackass. He thought he was funny by asking me for ID to get a drink. I was more than happy to show him and when I did, his response was " I had a fake ID at 17 too." After a lovely Spa day at heaven and earth spa it made perfectly good sense to go down one level and have a relaxed dinner with the love of my life. We were seated immediately in the outside courtyard and our server was prompt and courteous as he arrived with two waters to start our dining adventure we ordered the lobster and crab crab cake as a appetizer And then my wife ordered the ribeye steak and shrimp meal fit for my queen. I had to lower my expectations on the lobster crab cake it lacked crab and vaguely reminded me of a salmon cake texture because of the filing and consistency, hey we've had crab ake from Maryland so that will always be our point of reference. The first and most important thing to know about Bibas Courtyard Grill at the Hale Koa Hotel is that it is generally reserved for military. In fact, the entire hotel is reserved for military. Non-military guests can certainly go to the Barefoot Bar on the hotel premises and our understanding is that if you want to dine at the restaurant you may do so if you are "sponsored." I don't really understand what that means but my sister and I showed up last night for an impromptu dinner and were asked for our military ID -- clearly we do not have those and told them that we weren't military but just wanted to grab some dinner. The hostess said that they could "sponsor" us but that it isn't something that can always be done as the restaurant is "for military only as is everything in the hotel." We felt very honored to be allowed to dine there and had a great experience. It's open-air seating outside and the weather is perfect -- I mean, it's Hawaii. But there is also inside seating if you are so inclined. Our outdoor table was in a courtyard surrounded by a water feature and the lovely Hale Koa Hotel gardens - which are beautiful so definitely take the time to walk around. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp to start - cooked nicely, not oily, with a sweet sauce for dipping. Three pieces of shrimp, so probably not for sharing if you are super hungry. :) We both ordered the Hawaiian catch of the day which was swordfish. It was cooked well and had a very spicy spice on it -- maybe some kind of pepper or chili but I couldn't place it. But that spice balanced beautifully with the sweet pineapple salsa that graced the plate. It came with mashed potatoes, fries or rice and I ordered the mashed potatoes which were really yummy. I would recommend calling before going because it was clear that the hostess somehow helped us out with the "sponsoring" thing, so I'm unsure exactly how it works for either the military guests or the non-military ones so I would check first just in case. read more

3 stars might be a tad harsh, it's more like a 4 stars but...but...my wife got a bout of food poisoning after eating the lobster. The food tastes great. The drinks in the dining area were no where near the quality of the ones at the bar. The bar mai tais are great and hit hard. The ones in the dining room were weak and didn't taste great. We had great servers with the exception of the tall heavy set guy. He was not great, not personable or attentive. I have dined at many restaurants, and this one is at the top of my do not return! The food had zero flavor. I ordered the Black Tiger Shrimp and linguine and it was all butter, shrimp and lobster bland, pasta overly salted and the sauce was all butter. Just bland! The burger, for 23 bucks, was ordered medium and tasted like bland meat! Zero seasoning. The only flavor was the cheddar we had to add to the burger. By far one of the worst places to dine. Customer service is non existent. They are about rushing you! No conversation, smiles, or a desire to interact. It's like they don't want to be there. It's a shame but would recommend you go elsewhere for the money your investing. Now the family all have upset stomachs...something isn't right.
