I like this place. Tons of variety and their muffins are delicious. It's a chain (or a franchise?) since I've been to them in Colorado. I've never had bad service here. You want a sweet bagel? Get the sugar cinnamon bagel. You want spicy? Get the cheddar jalapeno bagel. My only minor gripe is they hand cut all their bagels. I wish they had a machine because when I order a dozen bagels to go on a Sunday morning, and half of San Marcos is waiting behind me, I always feel so terrible for the guy who has to hand cut them. This delicious bagel smell fills the shop and welcomes customers. My favorite breakfast sandwich is the Southern Tradition. I request a fresh garlic bagel with freshly scrambled eggs mixed with green peppers and onions, topped with thick slices of cheddar cheese and three juicy pieces of bacon. So deliciously satisfying. This is an alright bagel & sandwich place. The prices are pretty reasonable, and there's a variety of items. The stuff is prepared fairly quickly. I got the southern tradition bagel sandwich, which has egg, meat and cheese. The bacon was pretty crispy, which I like, the egg was pretty bland. The bagel itself, which was an everything bagel, was a little overcooked, and not because it was toasted for the sandwich. It also seemed a little dry, making these bagels pretty average. read more

Stopped by this place before class. I've always passed by but never stopped to try it. Came in around 9 am and there was no line. Our cashier was very patient and let us take our time looking through the menu. I ended up getting an American Sunshine sandwich with a toasted tomato basil bagel and loved it! Perfect breakfast imo. My boyfriend got a northern omelette Asiago bagel and he loved it as well. They were very quick with our order ( approx 5 mins) and friendly overall! Will be coming back :) read more

We've been to this place before for the muffins - which by the way are SPECTACULAR. The Boston Creme is just about the best muffin I've had in my life - perfectly tender crumb inside along with delicious filling. Couldn't ask for more. We finally tried their breakfast sandwiches. And, equally delicious! We had the Veggie (adding ham and provolone cheese) on an everything bagel and the Northern Scramble on a tomato basil bagel. Both were so fresh and wonderful - fluffy egg, plenty of meat, great bagel. Could not have asked for more. Definitely highly recommend if you want a quick, fresh breakfast. read more

Used to go here somewhat frequently. Just went there today and tried to call ahead to have my order placed, they wouldn't even let the phone ring. I get there, place isn't even that busy. They have a kid working the counter that I'm 100% certain isn't even 16 yet... ended up ordering two different sandwiches and got two different things. Asked for a turkey classic on everything and an american sunrise on bacon cheddar, got a chocolate chip bagel with cream cheese and an everything bagel as a sandwich but not as a classic turkey... I got the vegetable delight bagel sandwich and a mocha icespresso. The sandwich was average, nothing special. The drink was pretty good though! Came here with the bf this morning and it was an experience... The space itself is pretty small and there's no designated "start of the line", so when it gets crowded you dont really know where to go, which is frustrating when people keep cutting you. The variety of bagels and cream cheeses they have was decent and it smelled good in the shop. Bf got the Southern Tradition Breakfast sandwich on a jalepeno cheese bagel. I got a chocolate chip bagel with cream cheese and their double brewed cold brew. The staff just assumes you have been there before, so the cashier handed me an empty cup and straw. I had to ask which dispenser was the cold brew and received a vague "the one on the shelf". Cool. The dispensers weren't labeled so I had to guess. Ended up getting iced tea and having to dump it to replace it with the cold brew from the correct dispensar. When I went to got my drink, I noticed the bathroom door is right in front of the soda/ice dispenser...and get this: the door swings out! So as I'm getting ice from the machine, someone from inside the restroom opens the door and almost smacks the door into me. Whoever thought to have the door swing out for the bathroom is a freaking GENIUS. So be careful when you get drinks here. You put yourself at risk for a concussion. Finally, we got our food in a decent amount of time (5 minute tops). Decided to take our food to-go because of how crowded/cramped it was inside. Got to the car and decided to try the bagels because it smelled so good. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre at best. Eggs on the breakfast sandwich tasted bland and almost like they're either microwaved or those fake powder eggs. The bagels were doughy and dense/hard, almost like a day old french bread roll. My chocolate chip bagel had maybe 10 chocolate chips total. The cold brew tastes like burnt iced coffee that's been sitting for hours. Overall: staff was average (3 stars), food was eh (1.5 stars), and place itself was okay except for the safety hazard (2 stars). I would never come here again... read more

Stopped in on Sunday with my husband. I had bagel with egg vegetarian. The bagel was 'meh' at best, and the eggs/vegetable part reminded me of bland cafeteria food. I don't think they used real eggs to make that. Overall just 'meh'. Not what I expected for a place named 'Big Apple Bagels'. Will be returning to our usual breakfast spot at the 'Old California Coffee House and Eatery' in restaurant row in San Marcos. They have the best bagels in San Marcos for their breakfast sandwiches. The food at Big Apple Bagels was disappointing and the restaurant needs cleaning and repairs. Very run down and the bathroom door was filthy. We will not be back. read more

If you find yourself in San Marcos needing a good bagel, BAB churns out a mighty fine one indeed. They also have yummy muffins. Not sure if this place is "authentic", (from what I understand, NY bagels are good because of the NY water) they are nice and chewy though. Service is okay, but bring your patience hat - the kids working in the afternoon aren't exactly the roundest bagels in the basket if you know what I mean. read more
