A treasure of a bakery (they have some amazing colombian baked goods ) and a repertoire of classics. The Guava Pockets or Empanadas de Cambrai are one of the best I tasted. This place was absolutely amazing. Found it by accident walking around the city with my boyfriend. The employees were really sweet and kind, they exemplified great customer service. The place is quaint and cozy. The multigrain croissant we had was perfectly mixed with the taste of a multigrain bread and the softness of a croissant which matched well with the coffee I had. The chocolate chip cookie we shared was also the greatest bit of sweetness combined with the chocolatey taste molded well with the heated treat. What I don't understand is how a community coffee and bakery survives opening up after 8:00am. Working people are up way earlier than that and ready to get a coffee on their way. Other local and chain coffee shops are open between 6-7am. The website says 8:00am, but it is never opened up on time. You can wait until 8:20am and the doors are still locked. It's unfortunate as there is a subway right on the corner and if opened early or on time the foot traffic alone would be the best business for them. I want to support this local small business, but not opening on a time as listed on their website is ridiculous and unacceptable. I've been working in Chelsea since they opened and sad to say this has happened over and over. Even if some of their products are good, I won't be back. FYI- The owner is never ever there and the man in charge of making the pastries, serving, cleaning and making coffee looks overwhelmed. I live in Connecticut and come into the City often,. I always make it a point to stop by BBBCo. The deserts and treats are AMAZiNG! I buy as many deserts as possible and share them when I get home. No matter where I take them they are gone within minutes .. the rocky road brownie is my absolute favorite . Today I has the Absolute Pleasure of meeting and speaking to the owner. Russ, I impulsively scored a red velvet cupcake, at 6:30 PM today. Granted, it was completely serendipitous that I was even over there, but I am so glad I did...Billy's was out of them and by the time we got over here I was disgruntled. SO GLAD I DID! This place has promise but the inconsistency of the baked goods is a huge problem. After all, if you come away with a delectable coconut brownie one time and the next time it's crumbling and stale, that does not encourage future visits. The name itself won me over before I even walked in. I have a gluten allergy and happened to stumble upon Big Booty Bread Co when looking for some gluten free snacks in the Chelsea area. I ordered an iced coffee and a gluten free chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was huge and jam packed with tiny chocolate chips, and tasted delicious dipped in the coffee. I couldn't finish it all in one sitting so I ate it throughout the day and it stayed pretty soft and moist, which was a plus. I'll definitely be revisiting this spot! read more

Been there a few times.., I love the coffee,,mmm yum.. I had an oatmeal cookie, was very tasty. And yes have also tried the red velvet cupcake..It was a little hard on the top, but i was in the store late in the day.so to be expected i guess. It had an unusual taste,,not sure if it was the cc or the buttercream? But I enjoyed it. My only other comments, is something I have come across in so many places,,a wobbly Table (seriously !) It can be annoying and so easy to spill my delicious coffee.. And I have to say I know some places have staff that are terribly untrained.or extremely Unfriendly..but the guy here that works here on certian days. not super friendly, I end up always seeing his underwear sticking out of his pants,,and his STUFF is always littered around the back of the bakery.. Okay so my experience took place May 21, 2018. I usually never write reviews but I felt compelled to do so so since I work in the area and pass this shop almost everyday, it would bug me everyday if I didn't! So I initially stopped in there to do a taste test on a chocolate or double chocolate cake. There were two people behind the counter a middle age woman and a younger male who looks to be about in his mid 30's. The woman was helping a customer already so when I finally was able to make eye contact with the gentlemen I asked him does this shop make cakes since none were displayed. He says yes then precedes to tell me they come in 9, 10 and 12 inch. I say that's great because I want to purchase a cake for an employees recent promotion. Can you please give me a chocolate cupcake that closely resembles the cake I would be getting. So he gives me one then gives me ZERO information about prices, style, decorations or anything. The only thing he says is "they can ring you up at the front" Hmmm ok thanks for being so informative about a possible big purchase I was thinking about making with your bakery. So as I am paying for my cupcake another older gentleman possibly the owner or manager based off his welcoming demeanor says "is that all I can help you with" I then tell him verbatim what I told the first unprofessional employee and he immediately states telling me the type of chocolate cake they could make, decorations and pricing. As he is telling me this the unhelpful employee walks over and says let me exchange your cupcake for another one?!? In my head I'm thinking ooh is this because you originally could care less about what I told you just 5 minutes prior and more than likely gave me a stale cupcake but now since your boss is made aware of your lack of helpfulness you want to give me an actual suitable one? LOL UNREAL so the manager/owner whoever notices the puzzled look on my face and try's to then save face by saying "he wants to give you a fresher one" shame on your establishment you should have done that from the beginning. I paid for my cupcake then left. I only gave this place one star for two reasons. Reason #1 that's the minimum amount of stars that I could leave and Reason #2 despite the terrible attitude of the worker that should be either severely corrected or terminated the cupcake was very tasty! Was in the neighborhood and due to my major eating disorder I couldn't pass by without stopping in. (I don't know the name of this disorder but it is impossible for me to walk past something edible and not want it in my mouth.) My boyfriend ordered the cookies n cream cupcake. I couldn't decide between the banana bread cupcake (yes banana bread with chocolate frosting!!) or the carrot cake cupcake. So my enabler of a boyfriend ordered both cupcakes for me. The banana bread cupcake was delicious! Like a chocolate covered banana, but better! This is a creation I might not have ever thought of but now I wanna make my own at home! Next I took a bite of boyfy's cookies n cream. Yum yum! It was everything I'd expect from a cookies n cream cupcake and more! Even had half an Oreo disc poking out of the frosting : ) And the grand finale: Carrot Cake Cupcake!! OMG homemade carrot cake-delicious! Cream cheese frosting- grade A! I don't know where they got their carrot cake recipe or their cream cheese frosting recipe but I wish I could have them! You could taste the quality in this cupcake! It was sooooo good! All of the cakes were very moist and the frostings were very creamy (especially that cream cheese!!!)! Another thing I liked was that they were served to us room temp, not all cold from being in a refrigerator case. I hate chilly cake, ugh! The downside is it's $2.50 for a cupcake. Like a regular sized cupcake you would bake at home on your own. WTF? I should open a cupcake shop on my porch, the profit margin must be huge at that rate! I could justify the price if they were the larger sized cakes like those huge muffins u get at costco, but not for something that started as about 2 tbsp of batter. read more

had the Red Velvet cupcake and traveled quite a distance (distance as in, cause it's cold chilly weather!) for it but when I got back to my apartment and bit into the cupcake.... it was somewhat dry on the outside like the cupcake had been on the shelf getting stale by the air for a couple days. =( what a disappointment! however, it did seem like the worker gave me one of the less attractive cupcakes, so maybe he gave me an older one and the non-older ones taste much better. yes, but overall, quite a letdown. have had much better Red Velvet cupcakes from Sprinkles and Layer Cake Bakery. -- I give those places 5 stars! I loved the cookies, over-sized, moist, a packed with the flavor of quality ingredients. I got the peanut butter that was so rich it took me two days to eat and an oatmeal raisin that was chewy and full of crunchy oats at the same time. Big Booty is hot garbage. I walked in excited by other reviews and the need for a snack. When I walked in one lady was finishing serving another customer. So I waited. She walked up and said, "What can I get you?" It being my first time I was still looking at the menu and the cases of food. I said, "not sure yet". So she stared at me as if I was inconveniencing her day. I was the only customer in the store by this time. She walked off and started grabbing things snatching bowls and such. She walked by me three more times without even looking in my direction. The fourth time I said, "Can I get..." and I trailed off because she didn't stop. A woman who was washing the dishes turn around and said, "What can I get you". So I asked for an apple Big Booty. Then the rude woman from before got a piece of wax paper to grab the pastry and the woman washing the dishes turned back around to continue washing dishes. I assumed that meant the rude woman was going to take my order. I asked her if they were currently serving empanadas. She rolled her eyes and said, "The empanadas are over there sir", she didn't point at anything she just said "over there". At this point I looked at her and said "no thanks. I don't want anything. Because you are rude as hell". That's when she said something under her breath. To which I said, "Excuse me". The typically what kind of customer service to you all provide her argument started here. I don't care how good people say the food is here. Customer service is so important to me. If you are having a bad day you need to go in the back. You need to go home. Or you need to work in another field. If I could give zero stars I would. Have a manager around. Train your employees. Cause no one wants to deal with that much attitude for a croissant. read more

Having a gluten intolerance really sucks. This place makes it survivable. They have amazing pão de queijo (Brazilian tapioca-based cheese bread, which I used as sandwich bread) as well as a pretty epic "paleo muffin". The prices are fair. I go there almost every day. I've had their paleo/gluten-free muffins (with chocolate chips) a couple of times - they're always so moist and so flavorful! It's great that they offer GF treats so us sad folk can enjoy baked goods like everyone else. Today I bought a paleo cookie (with chocolate chips, obvsi) and a paleo muffin (to enjoy tomorrow for breakfast). The cookie was phenomenal! So big and made with yummy almond flour. Heading for the C train, my body distinctly turned hard right when my nose grabbed hold of the heavenly sweetness emanating from this unassuming storefront. I'm no expert on banana bread nor gluten-free baked goods, but I did thoroughly enjoy their gluten-free banana bread muffin this morning, along with an equally delicious iced coffee. The muffin was light, fluffy and moist, not crumbly. The small iced coffee, while a bit steep at $3 for my wallet, was a perfect companion and had great robust flavor.
