My daughter and I have been finding all the places downtown that carry Balthazar so we thought we'd schlep up to THE place itself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Much smaller than I expected given the volume they do - but just as quaint as I thought it would be.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I adore their almond croissants and was not disappointed. Nice to have them so fresh. Only thing that would have made it perfect would have been a touch more crunch in the outside and a tad more almond paste on the inside. We are going to try something new each time we try a bakery, so today it was a banana donut. It was moist and warm, with the right amount of icing and nuts. Not overwhelmingly banana-ish and not too sweet. Reminds me of a banana coffee cake. I am realizing, however, that I am partial to yeast donuts. For that... It's doughnut plant!

This spot was on my list for quite a while and heard good things about their baked goods. I think they made a good impression but nothing is super inventive or out of the ordinary art, though you'll find some worthwhile baked goods. Not sure that I'd call it a destination spot nor am I sure I feel the need to return but good bakery options are limited in Manhattan and this place is solid! They have a variety of sweet and salty options but also a variety of loaves for you to bring home which I def would consider grabbing.

    Don't know what it was!

I went to buy sandwiches on Sunday, June 29th, 2025 at 1:29 PM. I ordered 2 chicken sandwich, as regularly I do, but what I received was not a chicken sandwich at all. Instead, I was given something unrecognizable, completely lacking any chicken, and seemingly thrown together with just peppers and other random ingredients. (Photo attached.) This was absolutely inedible and unacceptable-especially at a price of $16 each. It looked like it was made from leftovers, and I find it deeply disappointing that something of this quality would leave the place.

Every time I visit this wonderful Boulangerie on Spring Street, I am transported back to Paris. When in Paris, you step into a beautiful bakery and the aroma of fresh coffee and croissants welcomes you and every sense awakens. Balthazar gives me that same feel: handwritten menu on the mirror, fresh flowers, and bundled treats of baked goods to take away. I've visited to treat my employees to their delicious plain and chocolate croissants and the real star, the apple galette. I also have bought cakes to celebrate each team member's birthday. The most recent celebration involved a strawberry glazed cheesecake. I preordered a day in advance, a must! When I arrived to pick it up, the staff were glazing the strawberries on to the cake. ( highly recommend the strawberry glazed cheesecake!). Balthazar also offers savory treats as well as to go salads. There is a small crowd every morning but the staff is efficient and courteous so you do not feel as if you are waiting a long time. Is it a wonder that patrons enter the Boulangerie with a smile and exit with an even bigger one? Merci Beaucoup Balthazar!

Been to Balthazar many times, both the restaurant and the Boulangerie and upon stopping by I decided I'd grab some donuts. To my surprise they had the apple cider ones that I really enjoy. Along with that I grabbed a chocolate one as well. Both were very good as usual. Went perfect with my warm apple cider which I already had with me. Perfect for a chilly day as I browsed SoHo on Black Friday. As many can attests to, this spot is great to stop by no matter the occasion. You never know what they will have so make it a point to stop by when in the neighborhood.

    Opera Cake

Called and ordered an opera cake from Balthazar Boulangerie a few weeks ago! My order wasn't quite ready when I arrived but their team was lovely and offered me coffee and a pastry while I waited. The cake was beautiful and SO delicious! Huge hit that evening! Will be going back! :)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]No seating for the bakerie.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The coconut cake was very dry and had no cream cheese. The flourless chocolate cake was sour and tasted weird. Overall, mid

Great delicious selection and fabulous ambience and great service. Ran in for a snack but love the bar and restaurant too.

Went to the Balthazar restaurant and it was amazing - pricey but well worth it . I highly recommend the halibut - the best I've ever had ! The foie gras was ok.

Some of the most buttery, flaky pastries in NY that I've had! I've tried the - Kougin Amann (5/5) - Almond Croissant (3/5) - Apple Galette (4/5) - Cream Cheese Danish (3/5) - Pecan Sticky Bun (5/5) - Everything Croissant (5/5) - Canele (4.5/5) I find that their layers are amazing- super buttery and savory. Unfortunately, many of their fillings are not so good. The cream cheese fillings were wayyy too sweet- same as the apple inside the galette (although the pie portion was DIVINE). The almond croissant didn't have enough paste. My favorites were the kougin amann and the everything croissant. The filling of the everything croissant had a little bit of a kick to it and balanced out the savory layers well while the kougin amann was sweet but not too sweet. I would also recommend the canele, which was perfectly custardy on the inside and lightly sweet!

Ask the Community - Balthazar Boulangerie

    Do you make bread?

Yes, I do make my own baguettes because I can't find good baguettes where I live but Balthazar's baguette is outstanding by Paris' standard. It's a rustic baguette tradition with excellent crust and hole-y crumb. Delicious and keeps well

Yes they do. Whole wheat whole rye sour dough= Pan de siegle. Lavin= slightly sour dough. Cranberry pecan bread. Ciabatta and rosemary ciabatta. Black calamata olive. Walnut bread. Whole wheat with sesame seeds flax seed and sun flower seeds. My…

I've never tried a Japanese cheesecake before and was extremely excited to be able to pick up some treats for my coworkers as well as my partner's birthday cake from Keki. Ordering is fairly straightforward and done with a simple machine outfront. Once your order is ready one of the staff members hands it to you through a window; there is no inside area accessible to customers but our food came quickly and we took it back to the office. The cheesecake was fantastic. I read a bit about the background of the shop online and how the owner really cares about using high-quality ingredients, specifically dairy. It was justas described, light and bouncy. I enjoyed how it was not overly sweet and found that it was all too easy to devour the entire cake over the course of two days. Despite it not having much weight to it, it traveled surprisingly well as I took it home on my three train commute! Similar to what others have said, the real highlight of the shop, in my opinion, are their cream puffs. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the outer layer was thin yet had a nice little crunch to it. We tried the classic milk, cookies & cream pistachio and ube flavors. Our favorite was the pistachio by far, which had such a unique yet decadent flavor and our second favorite was the milk cream puff. There's not much else I can say other than you really have to go here and try the desserts yourself. If you're a fan of Japanese desserts that are rich yet not too sweet, you'll be a fan of Keki.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
