Big Daddy's Dish is a local chain of soul food restaurants that are very popular with the locals. Upon our arrival in Atlanta, this airport close location was our first stop after renting our car. On Saturday night, the line at 7:15 PM was quite long and slow, but most people are taking their orders to go. Tables were easy to find. The restaurant is very casual - you collect your food from a cafeteria style line (with some fresh fried items available to order). You are then seated, but there are waitresses coming around to see how you are doing. The service here is great. Everyone is as friendly as could be. Overall, I found the food to be average, but I found the service to be off the charts for this category of restaurant. Our family of 5 had a feast for less than $42, and there was way more food than we can eat. B had the four chicken wing dinner with coleslaw a yam soufflé. The chicken wings are prepared in advanced and are sitting on the steam table. So they are greasy and not crispy, which is not my fave. The coleslaw, which is in the fridge, was crisp and cold - a classic mayonnaise based preparation. The yam soufflé was fluffy and rich, but it was definitely tooth-achingly sweet. The LOs each had a small side of mac and cheese and a corn muffin. After a long day, neither was that hungry. The mac and cheese was not my favorite - it had that Velveeta flavor and was not very creamy. M ordered the BBQ pork ribs with creamed corn and collard greens. First of all, there is nothing creamed about this corn. It was just corn with butter, which was okay but not what was on the menu. The ribs were okay. The flavor of the BBQ sauce was great - sweet and a little smokey - and the ribs had great bark. But, the meat itself was a bit dry and chewy. I ordered the 3 veggie side with collard greens, turnip greens and rutabagas. It came with a corn muffin as well. I would have like to have had baked beans, but they didn't have any. C'est la vie. The greens were fantastic, and the collards and turnip greens had very different flavors. The collard greens had a smokey flavor from the turkey leg braised with them. The turnip greens were peppery and had bits of turnips in them. I really enjoyed both of these. The chunks of rutabagas were slow cooked with sweet carrots and savory celery. I really liked this dish as well. I had only a couple bites of the corn muffin - they get cold quickly and are more flour than corn so they don't have much flavor. We had hoped to get sweet potato fries and fried okra, but there were no sweet potato fries. It was probably for the best, because the okra was underwhelming. I think that they use frozen battered okra that they are just dropping into a fryer rather than making in house. The batter is light, which is nice, but it has an odd flavor. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Big Daddy's Dish. I loved the family friendly atmosphere and the great staff. Some of the veggies dishes were really enjoyable, but some of the food was not very memorable. read more

I've been to Big Daddy's twice now, and I gather the taste is quite inconsistent. The first time I went it was pretty good but last night I can't say the same. The collards were on the sweet side and had no meat in them and the baked Mac was average. I did get the chopped turkey and that was delicious with the dressing (make sure to get gravy!!) The line was literally wrapped around so me and my bf were waiting for an hour before we could order. For that, I'd rather just go to A1 but they close early. I drove 45min for this experience. The staff isn't very friendly either with exception to one of the ladies. read more

One of the best soul food restaurants on the Southside. They got everything and everything taste good. They can be costly ( if you thinking about a cheap lunch) $$ but they worth it. $20 a plate usually but the food so good I don't mind spending the dub. read more

Veggie plate $8.99 for four sides. I had Mac-n-cheese, dressing, sweet potato soufflé, and cabbage (all veggie). Food was very good and portion size was enough for two servings. The best part tho was the service. Honestly the servers and manager were the best I have ever experienced! The service is in comparison to a Michelin Star fine dining experience. It was. Mannnn listen here, this is some of the best food I've ever had. Everything was delicious!!! I had pot roast over white rice and you get 2 sides also but because everything looked so good I got extra sides I ended up with Mac and cheese, yams, greens, and dressing along with the roast and rice oh and I had peach cobbler and they house made lemonade... The service was excellent, although it's a buffet style you couldn't tell because our server was very attentive... Sigh...I've been eating at Big Daddy's since they was in operation in the plaza off Riverdale Rd. and back then it was NOT a hit or miss. It was a hit every single time. Since they moved to Old Natl. it's a 65/35 chance I will get a good meal. 35% chance it will be good. To be frank, I'm tired of spending so much on poor quality food that half or more ends up going in the trash because of something terribly wrong. Browns in Riverdale is better and I don't like them that much either. Anyway...gambled again and lost. Bought a plate of rib tips Mac cheese rice greens cornbread squash. Half the ribs were so badly burnt you couldn't even bite it. Pissed. The rice was soggy. The Mac cheese didn't have enough cheese. The cake was box cake. If I'm paying $4 or better a slice it better not come out of a box. I'm just not eating there anymore. I have supported this business for more years than I care to count but I'm not anymore. They have to do better. You know what kind of food you are putting out and...nevermind I'm done spending my money here and I would not recommend them to anyone read more

This wasn't the greatest experience, and to think we paid almost $50 for lunch at this place. My husband was pleased with his shrimp and pasta dish, but my oxtails were tough as leather in the winter! My waitress Charlotte changed it immediately for the turkey wings; which there was no price adjustment (just realized this as I type) and as I bit into the turkey wings they were tough too! I was just over it so I didn't even complain. The greens and rutabaga's were good and that is why they have two stars. Don't think I'll be back. too much money for subpar food. read more

Only get to go quarterly because it is far from me but when I go..oh boy! I go iiinnnn!!! This food damn sure isn't soulful! I've been meaning to review this place for a minute. Don't get their sides. They're definitely canned and bland. Eh. I've had their jerk and regular turkey wings. Those are ok... honestly the only decent thing I've tried. Their oxtails are mostly just tail bone and not seasoned well. For the amount they're charging for them, you don't get many. They'll run you about 17 bucks. Like others have mentioned, their glass surrounding the food does get very foggy, so it makes it hard to see the food. I've been twice and the line has been long both times, and it doesn't move fast. Why did I come back a second time? The turkey wings weren't bad the first time I had them, but their sides were trash. Okay I googled soul food because I'm new to Georgia and nothing was close to me. This location is 45 minutes from my house and if you go on a Sunday afternoon know this hot spot is wrapped around the corner, but well worth the wait. I ordered 3 plates with lamb, fried chicken and beef tips, 3 desserts, and a large drink. My total was 87.62. I knew this was dinner for my household so I did some shopping after picking up my food, no big deal. I drove all the way back home, started putting things away, got ready to eat and my order was wrong. My heart just sank. I couldn't eat any of it because it had pork on them. I was praying that the crew was still cleaning up the restaurant when I called back. A gentleman named Marcus answered the phone. I told him my issue and without hesitation he said cmon back tomorrow and I will fix your plates for you. Now I'm from California where there is not a lot of real soul food plus I'm an operating partner for a big restaurant so for me to get this type of customer service is beyond me because I know how the biz goes I have been in the industry 23 years. I want to say this is the owner of the joint, because the 1.5hrs I spent standing in line I seen a Marcus Sabir name on a couple of things there. The customer service was AWFUL. While I was going through the cafeteria line, one of the servers handed my takeout box to another server who looked me up and down and walked away. When I got to the checkout, I had to wait about 10 minutes while the cashier chatted up the customer in front of me who was trying to sell cakes to the restaurant. I started to walk out, but I waited patiently. The Food: I ordered 2 veggie plates (one for myself and one for a friend) and the food was not good. The ribs, were just okay in my opinion, but my son claimed them as the truth!!! I've come to realized that I like baby back ribs more than the spear ribs. My friend that was visiting took a different route and ordered smothered pork chops and dressing with gravy, which was delicious!!!! She allow me a taste and I was so mad that I didn't order the chops, seasoned to perfection. The prices were not bad at all, my tab was around $26 after we purchased beverages. My friend tab was around $11 but she ordered a dessert. Big Daddy's is a decent size restaurant, with decent seating. The restaurant was very clean, each table suited with hot sauce,vinegar peppers, ketchup & mustard and salt & pepper. All the thing a southern food restaurant need. The best part about Big Daddy's is Lil Pappa and the other servers ( I asked one of the servers if he was big daddy, he said " no, they call me Lil Pappa" lol ). We were welcomed with open arms at this establishment and left there feeling like family. My son spoke about how nice the servers and cashiers were to him, they gave him some very encouraging words about school and growing into a young man ( it was very nice ). Woah! My taste buds are in amazement. My grandparents know how to throw down like this but we don't live in the same state so this place is a real treat . Busy on Sunday so to really enjoy your experience come at a non busy time , not sure when that could be because this place is "poppin"! We loved our meals and will definitely be back. Good customer service, very friendly. I'm visiting Atlanta area this week and my cousins brought me here for some real southern soul food. I love comfort food, so the mac-n-cheese was a must. It was great, very cheesy with just the right amount of black pepper. The beef rib tips were excellent! The meat just fell right off the bone. The collard greens and corn bread were just ok, so-so but not great. The food service was great, but the beverage service ( just water) was very slow. I believe Big daddy's soul food restaurant has great intentions on serving the community with soul food but it's as if they lost the meaning of soul. The food taste like greed. There's no lLOVE in it at all.You can't serve everybody and everyone and expect the same results and it's almost like they need to go back to their main roots and serve who they are supposed or better yet serve Neighbors like you would want to be served- with LOVE. Do not WASTE your money on food from this place. I went on Juneteenth and waited in line for 2hours. I Watch the workers drink juice instead of helping customers. The thing I found very nasty was the workers would simply pour juice from collard greens on the food. I spent $50 for two people, for that price you can go to a classy restaurant. read more
