I can see other people like Big Daddy's as well. Great food and it won't break the bank. Particularly nice on a summer evening with the sun still up. Great outside deck and right on the Fish River. One could pull his boat up to their dock. I've only had oysters and shrimp, what else on the gulf, and it is very good. Make sure your ticket doesn't already include the tip. One thing, Big Daddy's is not in downtown Fairhope, it's several miles out and you've got to be looking for it to find it. It is well worth the short drive. read more

Our family of 6 truly enjoyed our Sunday experience at this unique local grill. There were plenty of other patrons but no wait for a great outdoor table next to the sand play area. The kids had a blast while the adults chatted and enjoyed yummy crab claws. Our lunches arrived quickly and perfectly prepared. The grilled grouper was excellent as the fish of the day. Kids meals were large and fairly priced. They come with drinks and 2 meals were plenty for 3 kids. The sweet potato fries and hush puppies were my favorites but the onion rings were pretty good too. Very good food, quick service and generous potions. I definitely should have taken them up on the adult ordering a kids portion! My husband said it was one of his best PO-boys since New Orleans. I had the fried shrimp which were big and not over breaded. The kids had fish and chicken which were also good. Definitely casual and kid friendly. Kids menu included drinks which rarely happens these days. We came early because of hungry kids, it was getting much more crowded by the time we left at 6. Would come back again. read more

Great fried seafood of all kinds and one in our party had a burger he said was wonderful. A bit greasy, though. Love the location on the fish river, and off the beaten path enough that there aren't any tourists. Live music on weekends, but I loved the peacefulness on a Monday. read more

Beautiful location on Fish River; a favorite spot of locals with out-of-town guests! Best value in the area for serious seafood! Server staff are long-timers who strive and please. Off beaten path & locals place especially for boaters. Crab claws good. Could have been bigger. Had fried shrimp basket sweet potato fries. Fries need more salt & seasoning. Shrimp need something to spice up. companion had shrimp quesadilla. Really good. Needed more seasoning. Bushwhacker for dessert. even w/151 floater, barely noticeable. We had the shrimp baskets. Fried shrimp were soggy and were served in a plastic basket with the soggy grease soaked paper on the bottom. When trying to dip the shrimp in the sauce all the batter falls off the shrimp. Could be the shrimp were not properly battered. Could be under temperature grease. Could be shrimp were not properly drained coming out of the grease. Price was three to five star with product delivered being one star. We will not be eating shrimp here again. read more

Location wins the day. Beautiful spot on Fish River and a beautiful day in late February provided a good start. The restaurant is off the road a bit but wonderfully sited. Maybe 2 o'clock on a Friday, the place was nearly empty. Sat at the rail overlooking the river. Service was attentive. Started with fried okra, and it was hot and plentiful; okay taste. Had the shrimp and oysters basket with slaw, hush puppies, and fries. My wife said the oysters were great and I say the shrimp was great; accompaniments were okay. Price reasonable. The only bad thing I have to say is that anything fried tasted way over salted. I had the fried catfish that came with hush puppies. My husband had the fried crab claws. Service was good and the view was pretty. I might go back again but probably not anytime soon. read more

This is our go-to place when we have visitors from out of town. It's a little hard to find, but that just adds to the experience. Great seafood and burgers. Good selection of beverages. Great place to bring the kids!!!! There are sand areas for them to play in and they don't have to keep super quiet and still. Waitstaff is always attentive and friendly. Hey, all! This one's a keeper. We went for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. Our server, Amelia, recommended fried pickles as a most-popular appetizer and it was an excellent choice. She also steered us to three craft beers which went well with our shrimp basket (fried with coleslaw and onion rings) and shrimp wrap (blackened with onion rings.) We had to bring most of everything home for another meal. There was pleasant live music on the outdoor patio and a very relaxed atmosphere all around. We'll be coming back to explore more of the menu and the outdoor bar. read more

Fun atmosphere, but the food is lame. I had the worst oyster po-boy I've ever had here. I love oyster po-boys usually, but these oysters were huge, flavorless, and water gushed out when I bit down. Turned my stomach. I wouldn't leave a negative review except that this is the 3rd time I've been there and the food has been disappointing each time. The experience of pulling up by boat and grabbing a bite is fun, but keep your expectations low for the food. read more

Way too cool of a place. The owners, Jason and Susan, are soooo nice and FUN, as well as their staff! I love love Fried Crab Claws and theirs are the best and biggest I've seen in the area. Yum Yum. But it's the location and atmosphere that make this place...right on Fish River...you can eat inside or outside and they somestimes have "live" music. Great for family, or fun! If I could give this place 10 stars, they'd definitely get it. It's an out of the way, casual seafood restaurant serving up not only a beautiful view of the Fish River, but some of the best shrimp, oysters, crab claws and side orders available anywhere! We normally share the "Big Daddy Basket" and take home a huge to-go box after we've eaten our fill. If they have a weak point, it's the breading on the fried fish. It's heavily coated with panko bread crumbs. A lighter breading would let that big, tasty fish shine through. The crowning jewel here, though, has got to be the gumbo. It's some of the best available on the Gulf Coast, seasoned to perfection and FULL of good sized shrimp. While you're there, be sure to try the potato salad. It's not your ordinary stuff - just a big bowl of delicious! Can't wait to eat there again!! read more

What a gem!! Paula is the best server! Gives great recommendations and knows how to help you order the best meal. Spinach dip (warmed) was a fantastic appetizer. It's a housemade spinach dip. The big daddy burger was excellent. Ask about the **whisper voice** "secret sauce". My wife enjoyed her crab cake sandwich and bushwacker drink. Unfortunately visited Big Daddy's for lunch this week. Staff was a little slow at getting us seated. After being seated, we waited another 6-7 minutes for someone to greet us and offer to take our drink order. By now we're ready to order drinks and food. The water and tea was delivered promptly, along with the soup they provide. I ordered a shrimp platter and my colleague ordered the lunch special which was shrimp and stuffed crab. Also, we added an order -appetizer of fried pickles. After waiting for about 20 minutes, we stopped the server to ask about the pickles and she replied "they should be right out". I then saw her go directly to the kiosk where I assume she keyed in the order for pickles that she had failed to place. In about 10 minutes the pickles arrived. During this wait, additional parties had come into the restaurant and had placed their orders. The pickles were very good. However, when we started seeing other parties that arrived after us, get their food, we got more frustrated. Again, asked our server the status of our food. She indicated it "was on the way". Never did I feel she was truly concerned that we didn't have our order. Finally at 1:00 p.m., we went to register to announce that we had to leave in order to get to another meeting. Needless to say, our lunch at Big Daddy's consisted of fried pickles with water and tea. Very disappointed in the service and the lack of concern from the server to get herself in the kitchen and get our food out. No excuses for this one. She did tell us that this was her first day on the floor. That's a management issue. read more

This place is off the beaten path in Fairhope and it can be a bit tricky to find but it's worth the journey. You pull up into a dirt parking lot and see a very rustic building and ask, "should I go in" The answer is, YES. You walk in the door and follow the yellow line until you reach the hostess. Then your are asked inside or outside. We chose not to fight the heat and the misquotes who come up from the river. There were 4 of us and we started off with fried pickles. They were cooked to perfection and very taste. Two of us had the fried chicken Turkey wraps that were good but not great. They were bland and could have used salt or some type of seasoning. We both agreed. The big daddy cheese burger was the star of the meal. Two patties seasoned and cooked to perfection. We all had a bite of the burger and realized what we should have ordered. The onion rings were cooked and seasoned perfectly however, the sweet potato fries were far from crispy and lacked seasoning. We will go back again for the burgers and onion rings. read more
