Our team decided to eat here the night before the SGK 3-Day. The place wasn't overly busy and we had 9 in our group. Our server was very nice and explained the menu and was very accommodating. Truly looked forward to eating here after the advertisement of how good the burgers are. Took awhile to be waited on, which can be understandable during lunch. However, most challenging thing was that when I returned my burger because it had cheese (I ordered it with no cheese), they took it to the back and I had another burger almost instantly. I thought they had another hot one ready and coming off the grill. To my surprise, I observed the burger to find they took my original burger, removed the cheese, and flipped the burger over on the bun so that I wouldn't see where they scraped off the cheese. I could still see cheese spots on the burger. That's very poor customer service!!! Just think what if I was allergic to cheese? Lastly, it took forever to close out the ticket. I would give it zero stars but that's not an option! My husband and 6 coworkers ate there last month and 3 out of the seven ate the same exact tacos and were in bed with food poisoning for 3 days. I called to inform the manager who was going to call the owner and took my info etc...but I heard nothing from them. A phone call back to investigate what exactly they ate and more details would have been the professional and human thing to do. I wasn't looking for anything financially and certainly wasn't interested in free food but for people to be in bed for 3 days due some form of contamination in your restaurant, it would be nice to actually get a phone call back. This place is very busy during lunch as it's connected to SunTrust Plaza. There is indoor and outdoor seating base on your preference and the interior designing is like that of a beach bar. The staff is very nice and quick to assist you with your needs. I had their burger and was surprised that it tasted to par with other big chain burger restaurants. Been working downtown for almost 4 years and just decided to try this for a going away lunch for a co-worker. There were 7 of us. We were seated promptly and placed our orders in good time. The wait for the food was longer than I expected. Then they sat my lunch in front of me (no on else's, just mine). Ten minutes later, others started receiving their orders while mine sat there and got cold. Once everyone had their food, I finished mine very quickly, as there wasn't that much to it. It was tasty but there just wasn't much food (why there are 2 stars and not 1). Also, I NEVER received as much as an offer to refill my tea. Final; two small enchiladas, one taco, a glass of tea and $20 later, I was on my way out. Will likely never eat here again. If they lower the prices a bit, give you more food, and train the wait staff, it might be doable but as of now, I would rather eat at a La Parilla, where you get more food for 1/2 the price. read more

When I heard there was such a thing as a "Big Kahuna Burger" I knew I had to try it. I talked for weeks about how when I travel to Atlanta I will go just to say I had a "tasty burger". I loved the name and the location next to the hotel was great. I finally sat down after not eating all day thanks to an active day at the convention I attended and as it turns out all they provide is bad experiences. The restaurant was not crowded at dinner time which I thought was odd but convenient for my wife and I since we were hungry. There was a giant Silver Surfer statue on the ceiling (the highlight of the meal). The decor was very heavy on the Hawaii influence despite the fact that they serve Tex-Mex. We were sat at a table and we ordered our app and entrees. We got nachos and two Big Kahuna burgers. The chips came first and they were stale. They provided no salsa and a small pool of queso. Again not impressed. We got our burgers and were surprised that the "chef" could grill a burger into a perfect circle despite there being no grill marks or taste that would imply spices or cooking method. Again, not impressed. The buns were stale as well and the fries were cold. The fries and burger not being fresh , despite the menu saying fresh, reminded me of eating at a gas station MdDonald's off of I-75. When it came time to pay our waitress was nowhere to be found. Turns out she decided to take a break mid shift. The wait for the check was longer than the process of eating the food. How backwards is that? Now when I think of "Big Kahuna" I don't think "tasty burger" all I think of is a big disappointment. read more

Horrible. Party of 4 for lunch and almost all said food was close to inedible. What happened to the fourth person? We don't know...as a client, we could not directly ask. Only acceptable part were the salsas. If that is not bad enough, it is overpriced. $16 for 3 non-authentic steak enchiladas with no side. Food served warm but not hot. Steak had bbq sauce on it and enchiladas were made of an uncooked flour tortilla filled with a great topping called air. Seriously, $16 for 3 ounces of beef?!!?!! Further, the waitress never offered to refill beverages despite the restaurant only being half full. Never again. How there it has a three star average I can not fathom. What??? I have not reviewed The Big Kahuna yet? Well, let me get to it. I work in one of the closeby buildings & have noticed that it was 'Coming soon' for a LONG time. We even received coupons for it that expired before the restaurant opened. Needless to say, they took their time getting it all in order, absolutely no haste was made. When they finally opened, they opened for lunch. I decided to try it out. Ordered the crab/shrimp burger with chips. Order came out very quick, I was excited because I am crazy for some HOT homemade potato chips. It was shortlived because I noticed the toppings on my sandwich was wrong. Food runner came back & confiscated my plate before I could let server know the problem. Aahh... man. Since I was alone, I elected to sit at the bar. I am sure that was appreciated by the bartender because they did not have a liquor license yet, she had a customer. She bought me a few chips, they were cold. Finally, the food comes back (cold chips ) and I find that the burger is still not right. At this point, the manager tells me the meal is on him. Nice that they were that attentive, I really did not complain. The burger was alright, not a lot of flavor in the actual burger, so the seafood was kinda bland. Went back the next day to give them another shot & since I had no cash to tip waitress the day before. Took a pal along for the visit. He had tacos (I thought they were eh), I had the shrimp/crab nachos. I did not like them. When I order nachos, I expect that there is shredded cheese on top, then they go under a broiler to heat them up so the cheese is nice & toasty, melty... Update - I went back and decided that Big Kahuna succeeds as a burger boutique. A very good burger boutique that compares well to some of the best in town. The other food supports the beachy theme, but the burgers are decadently big, juicy and delicious. They are a custom blend that was sweated over for a long time until they were "just so". The Kahuna burger is the marquis item, and it's really nice. There are several alternatives, including some you'd expect and one or two that might surprise you. With Max Lager's, the direct competition across Peachtree, having such inconsistent service, the Big Kahuna provides an excellent alternative. They are hereby promoted to four stars. read more

Wow, this was awful. Worst service I've experienced in a very long time. Party of three arrived at 12:08 today and promptly seated on the patio. Restaurant was 1/2-2/3s full. Blonde female server walked past us twice and totally ignored us. Guy who seated us came at 12:13 to get drinks orders. Came back promptly at 12:14 with drinks and no lemons as requested for tea/water. Took our orders. Cheeseburger medium. Hamburger medium rare. Two tacos. Promised to return with straws. We waited. And waited. Never saw our server. Finally my friend Lauren went inside at 1:07 and asked our server about our food. He promised we we next. Food arrived at 1:20. Cheeseburger was well done. Hamburger had cheese on it so I sent it back. Tacos were cold. Hamburger arrived a couple minutes later and all could clearly see the cheese was mostly just scraped off plus it was medium well. Good thing I don't have a dairy allergy. Fries were not replaced and therefore cold. Asked for a side of mayo up front. Took another couple minutes to get that plus salt and pepper. Like many other people here, the biggest issue with this place is the poor service. My companion and I came here for dinner one night. He ordered a steak and I ordered the chicken fajitas. The waitress took our order, and at this point, everything was fine. Five minutes later, she had to come back to ask my companion how well done he wanted his steak, something waiters would normally ask while the customer was ordering. Later again, she came to tell him that what he ordered was not available at the moment and to choose something else. A long wait later, we got our food and I was surprised to find I got a completely different dish to what I ordered. When the bill arrived, we noticed a 20% included gratuity. Certainly not something I would willingly choose to give them. If it was up to me, they would've gotten a low tip for their lacking service. On the upside, the decor was nice and the food wasn't horrible. Definitely wasn't worth the price and you'd probably have better food and service at a Chili's. If the items on the menu appeal to you, feel free to give them a try if you're willing to chance their mediocre service and management. read more

Our group made reservations before we arrived, earlier that morning and when we arrived, the lady acted like she couldn't find our names in the reservations and they weren't going to sit us. after we got seated, the service was horrible. The salad wasn't exactly what someone would call "fresh" as there was some brown , older pieces scattered throughout and the asian rice bowl was not visually appetizing as it looked like it was just thrown in the box. I have visited this establishment 10+ times. The food is much better than I was expecting on my first visit. I think I came in expecting "Hooters" quality given what seemed to be a preference for hiring young girls as servers and the somewhat kitschy presentation. In reality, I found the tacos to be outstanding. The burger - which I have had a few times - I think is charred a little more than I would prefer but the ingredients are all very fresh and tasty. Their fried shrimp appetizer is incredible. The location might be a little bit of a challenge and I hate that what is really a very solid place to catch a bite a beer and a game might not get the traction it deserves. I think the great outdoor seating area might be able to mitigate that somewhat in the summer months. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood for an event or conference. read more

I am amazed that this place gets three stars, must be the "hate to hurt anyone's feelings factor". I am only giving 2 stars because the bartenders are pretty and the big screen is really big with a top quality picture as the food is a negative number. I live downtown, one block from this place, and once or twice a year I will get lazy, want to watch a game and be in cheap mode, the food courts will be closed (we actually have some tasty options downtown, the food courts are better than most of the restaurants, try Aviva by Kameel and GLC Café), and make the mistake of deciding that the ScoutMob for this place is a good idea. I always think, maybe this place will be under new management or have hired a new cook, who knows, and I go there with the hope that it will be better. I have had the burger a couple of times, one of the worst ever with horrible fries (how do you mess up a burger and the fries?) Yesterday I got 3 tacos. I can eat anything, though I love quality food I have some seriously low standards (I should see a therapist) when I am really hungry. I ate the tacos but they were almost inedible, the tortillas, cold, and I had to check that they had not accidentally used cardboard or something that was not food as tortillas, not a joke. The fillings, I got three distinct styles and meats, all awful. The chips that came with the tacos, cold and a bit stale. My review is based on 4 or 5 lifetime visits and after reading what I just wrote, even I am thinking, I must have a personal beef with this place. I promise you I do not. My bartender, though her service was below average (did not get the lemon I asked for and my water was only refilled long after the glass was empty and I looked sad), was pretty, and that is actually enough for me, no beef here, she got a 20% plus tip on the full tab, not the minus ScoutMob tab. I promise you that I want places that are one block from me and have one giant sweet ass big screen TV with pretty bartenders to be good but I simply do not think a good cook could make food this bad if they tried. If you are downtown and you are hungry, do not go here. If you are downtown and want to have a drink and watch the game on a really big, really nice, big screen TV, this is a good option. read more

So we tried this place out around 1pm one day last week. It was better than we were expecting. The guys both had burgers and I had fish tacos...all of our food was excellent. The infamous Cherry Coke was just mediocre though. Our server, Jonathan was seriously one of the nicest servers we have had anywhere. He was the perfect blend of presence and absence;) He knew the menu, made suggestions and genuinely seemed happy to be there. Great staff and overall great place. Food is amazing and the drinks are great. Not to mention all the staff is extremely friendly and great to look at. The bartender Val is so nice and sweet and makes an incredible craft cocktail. Outdoor patio is cute and quaint.
