Jason was beyond kind & helpful over the phone even though I didn't end up buying tires today.

I am writing this as someone who has never used this establishment's services before. Yesterday, my roommate let me know my tail lights were out (kind of important). I had previously noticed a few lights inside my cab were out, so who knows how long they've been out for. After a little research, I figured out it was a specific (very small) fuse that had gone out... At least I didn't have to hassle with light bulbs right? Unfortunately, the only auto parts store in the area has closed. After no luck at the hardware store, I drove over to this Big-O location. I was welcomed into the store immediately. I told the clerk about my issue and presented my blown-out fuse. The man came back not thirty seconds later with the new fuse. Fully prepared to pay top dollar for wasting the time of a corporation like this, the clerk told me to just take it for free, as he smiled and laughed. I don't normally write reviews, but next time I need service or tires, I'll be going here. Genuinely friendly service isn't as common as I wish it was, but this one interaction has me sold. Can't wait to write a follow-up review on another service. I'm sure it will be great! My only regret is not getting the clerk's name so I could call the manager to tell them how outstanding this man's service was. He deserves a raise. read more

The 3 star review is mainly because I had such a horrible experience with one of the staff members. The actual service of the car was great, fast, and relatively cheap (although it was just one tire replacement). I brought my car in today after I popped one of my tires driving to work. I quickly pulled off and scanned the situation and found out the entire rubber part of the tire was gone. I was a couple blocks away from here so I figured I would just drive over rather than call AAA. As soon as I drove up an employee, Ed, walked over to my car. Before I could even get out of the car, I opened the door and he started lecturing me about how I shouldn't have driven, I was stupid for driving, and that I was lucky nothing worse had happened. I understand that I probably shouldn't have driven, really I get it. But Ed could have delivered his message in a much kinder and understanding way. To say the least, I am very upset with how he treated me. I don't often write reviews but his lecture has stuck in my mind for the last few hours. I wish that I could give a better review, we bring many of our cars here when they need new tires, and they do a great job. I am just so struck by the rudeness of this particular encounter. I had my Tesla model 3 rear tires replaced and they over filled the air in all 4 tires to 65 psi. The recommended psi is 45 and the max is 50psi even labeled on the tires. It is shocking that these technicians/mechanics did not even catch this. I would steer clear of this location if you have a Tesla it seems like they are more concerned about you blowing out a tire and coming back to them for a fix. It is unfortunate to find out they prioritize profit over the well being of people. read more

I came in desperate to have my flat tire replaced and was willing to spend whatever it cost in the pursuit. I showed up unannounced and without a pre-scheduled appointment, but they took me in right away. Marcos was incredibly friendly and honest, as it turned out that I didn't need to replace any tires... just needed a quick, inexpensive patch job. It may seem minor but honestly, it was exceptional service and I couldn't have been more pleased with the professionalism and haste that they possess. 10/10 would recommend. read more

They performed a tire replacement service and did so quickly and the price was good. Unfortunately, I have been here twice now with two different vehicles and each time I find that the men working the front aren't very helpful, seem short in their answers, a bit rude and seem to want to argue with their customers. I had hoped the first time was just a fluke and since many months have passed, I tried them again. Same result, unfriendly staff. In this day of big box retail & internet shopping, we made a New Year's resolution to do as much business locally with independent businesses whenever possible. We needed a new set of tires on one of our cars so we gave Big O a shot. In the past we've used Costco. I called Big O and received a competitive quote over the phone and also arranged to have the alignment checked and an oil change. Neither possible through Costco. Big O also offers a shuttle service home and back to the shop when the work is completed! Although I experienced a misstep with one of their employees at the counter, Ed the owner stepped in to rectify the situation. Furthermore, it seems their quality of workmanship is good. During a safety check, their mechanic discovered a taillight was out and replaced it with no additional labor charge. I'd suggest giving Lafayette Big O a shot at your business. read more

I had a blowout and had to put the donut tire on. I called Sears and they were idiots so I hung up and called Big O Tires. I drove direct to Big O and in 45 mins I had a new tire on and drove off. The service and time it took to get the job done gets the 4 stars. The Cost? Thats why they did not get 5 stars. read more

I will try to say this as kindly as I can.....Big O Tires in Lafayette stinks! Have you heard that saying "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results"? Well that would be me. Today I'm turning over a new leaf. I will NEVER, mark my word, NEVER bring any of our cars back to Big O in Lafayette again. While I am a big supporter of local businesses here in Lafayette, I cannot justify doing business with a company that I believe is dishonest. One year ago I had four brand new tires put on my car by Big O. Not cheap. Recently I had a slow leak in one of those tires (one year later). I bring it in, BOOM-now I need four brand new tires. They can't repair the leaking tire and because they claim the tires were not rotated (which they in fact told me these tires can't be rotated because the tires on the back must always stay on the back for whatever reason) now the alignment is off, and all tires are no good. Bottom line: they never take ownership for providing you with erroneous information. The service men there are unfriendly and aloof especially towards women. Without boring my fellow Yelp readers here, this very same scenario occurred several months ago at Big O in Lafayette with my other car. One of our brand new Big O Tires of three weeks had a flat. Because I did not buy the "insurance policy" for said tire and they could not patch the leak (hmmmmmm) I would need to PURCHASE a second new tire in three weeks. This isn't a cell phone where I expect to have issues therefore will purchase insurance. I sort of expect the tires on my car to last longer than three weeks and to get me safely from point A to point B. Must we buy insurance for everything? How about that saying "Built to Last". What a concept. Additionally, every time I brought one of our three cars in they were always telling me I needed "brake pads" or break realignment. I felt I was constantly being upsold. It simply got exhausting and so unpleasant to do business with them. Bottom line: lack of trust is the main reason I will not be going back. They try and justify their missteps, they do not care about providing good customer service, and they only care about up selling and making $$$$$. How about making the customer feel good? May I recommend America's Tires in Walnut Creek or even Costco. Both provide excellent customer service, are considerably less money, and easy to deal with. Not smug. read more

I went to this location on friday 9/10/10 I was promptly acknowledged and taken care of, I was given a reduced quote by an individual named Al. I had to save up a few bucks over the weekend to afford the work. So I came back on 9/13/10 I had called earlier that day to confirm the quote given to me and set an appointment. Sounds great, right? Apparantly not. Upon returning for my scheduled appointment I was greeted by an individual named Jack, we walked out to my car, I explained the quote given to me and what I needed done. He immediately told me that there was no way the work was going to be done at that price.... Im sorry but I was quoted this price for this work, TWICE. Long story short. I was originally quoted TWICE for $180.00 for a new tire and to have my lug nuts broken off and replaced. This is ONE tire. The key for my lug nuts was broken and I was told there was no other way but to break them. Jack told me for this ONE tire it would cost me at least $300!!!! I was also told I had an impact bubble on one of my tires. I told the man Jack that there was a conflict of interests and I would simply take my business elsewhere. And guess what, I did, and I subsequently saved myself well over $300. I later found out from a more reliable shop that there was no impact bubble on my tire, and that they had a key for my lug nuts I could buy for $15, not have to pay to have them all to be broken off. So thanks for giving me the run around Big O. Im glad I took my money elsewhere because it saved me being lied to by you, and overcharged. Go to Deals on Wheels in Concord. I was given two new tires and a key for the lugs, plus replaced missing lugnuts and rotation and balance for TWO TIRES for $185. They are truthful and affordable, and dont give you the run around or try to rob your wallet. the O in big O stands for OVERPRICED. read more

Horrible Place, that does not care about their customers unless you're buying 4 NEW tires. Every time I have gone here they try and upsell you into something or needing new tires. I think they take advantage of people not knowing much about cars. So suddenly they will tell you that you need brakes, you need tires, or "we won't balance those tires" (even though that was covered in warranty) because of some reason. I asked them to rotate the tires anyway, and it wasn't done because "of a reason" was what he told me on the phone at the end of the day. Also quite rude. I come in a Saturday morning, "NOPE, we can't help you today - too busy!" It's Saturday morning for crying out loud! Costco takes you anytime of the day and always does their best to fit you in. What are the brand names of the tires they sell here? Usually off brand ones with worse warranties/and or a warranty they refuse to support (tire warranties are usually a ripoff by the way, since they prorate or will rarely replace a tire citing some "unusual/mythical" wear which voids the warranty). The general rule here is there are some good tire places, but Costco is the winner for being the most fair. You get a name brand tire for a great price, courteous staff, and they have even replaced tires for excessive wear on my car when they didn't have to. Learn about your cars people, it will save you ALOT of money and avoid shysters like these guys. read more

Never again. This was the only tire shop I have ever been to, and like most people, that's enough to just keep going back. Today I was reminded why competition is good for the consumer and man are there lots of tire shops around. I got a flat and I wasn't able to schedule an appointment to get it repaired because I needed it fixed today before a road trip I had planned tomorrow. I looked online and saw that my old tire shop Big O store offered a repair service for tires that included as listed on their website: Included in your service: Remove tire from rim Inspect inside and out Repair liner to make sure the seal is airtight Fill puncture Remount and balance tire Check your spare to make sure you're ready for next time I thought I should be safe and put on the spare before driving to their shop and might save some time to just drop off the tire with them to get repaired, and then they'd remount it once done. So from the above listed service, they did one thing, put a plug through the outside of the tire after they removed the screw. It's a plug type you can but at any auto shop, cheap and obvious when you look at the tire. They didn't remove the tire form the rim, inspect the liner, balance the tire, or check the spare. When I asked if they could at least remount the tire, the sales rep said there was no way until possibly 3 hours from now and when I asked if there was some discount because they didn't do all that things listed above he said no. So it took me 10 mins to remove the tire with the cruddy jack and tools supplied with the car, and Big O couldn't afford to have 1 guy with a power tool and a real jack ensure the tire was remounted correctly. Probably would've taken them 5 mins and at least made me feel like they cared. Never again. Shop around people, this shop can't be bothered to care. read more

My first time to a Big O Tires place. I went here instead of the Walnut Creek one because of its reviews over there. When I first got there I admit it was packed. I mean I am not the only one on the road that gets a leak or a flat. So no surprise that it was busy at 1pm. I'm use to guys at tire places being kinda grumpy and upset about something. But these guys were happy, laughing and smiling. A guy name Justin was super nice. He explained that leaks can be fixed and that it would only be $30 if its repairable. Unfortunately, I drove on it to long to I kinda destroyed the inside of it. At least I didn't destroy the rim. He explained to me that I would need a new tire. I wanted to get the same tire that was already on my car, Michelin Pilot, but that tire was $196.98. He also showed me an option of a Japanese tire for $125. He said they are pretty much the same expect the Japanese Tire was cheaper. I decided I would stick with what I already had on the car. He told me that Micheins weren't in stock and that I'd have to come back tomorrow. That was fine. He put my spare tire on for free. So I went back to work with my spare and thought I would save more money with the Japanese one. So I called and he was super nice about me changing my mind. I came in and it was done in like 10 minutes. Super service! I even like the invoice they gave me. All the details printed out. I purchased two rear tires for my car several months ago. Not knowing anything about tires or their cost, it was a real eye-opener when I needed two rear tires on my car. To replace the stock tires it cost a whopping $1,137! I'd checked around at several tire stores and found that the best pricing was available at this location of Big O. Tires went on quickly with no problems. Fast forward to 8 months later. I'd been having a slow leak in one of the new slabs of back rubber over the course of two weeks. I'd stopped by twice to get a top-off of Nitrogen (or whatever it is they fill tires with these days). They suggested that I bring the car in when I had about 45 minutes to spare so that they could check exactly why I was having the slow leak. Brought the car in on a Monday afternoon. I settled in to the customer waiting area and assumed that I'd be there for at least an hour. Just 25 minutes later, I was advised that I'd picked up a nail in the offending tire, that they'd fixed the leak and my car would be ready to go in about 5 minutes. Now for the best part - they didn't charge me a thing! The repair was complimentary. Gotta love a local business that appreciates your patronage and shows it by doing small things as freebies. I'll be buying all my tires at Lafayette Big-O. Our family does a ton of driving in the course of our business so the need for tires is quite often. I was helped by Craig on the way in and Michael on the way out. Both were fantastic and professional. Thanks much, guys. read more

I have been going here for a while. I had tires put on about two years ago. When I bought the tires, the salesman took the time to talk prices with me and we settled on the Big O brand. They are over sized off road tires and I am very happy with my choice. I have been coming back every few months for two years for the FREE tire rotations. They also do some minor maintenance checks when they rotate tires. An important note- they do full service suspension and chassis work here too. But they did not pressure me to have anything fixed there. When I went for an alignment, they told me they couldn't do it because of worn parts. But they noticed I do most of the work on my truck myself. They suggested I change out my ball joints myself, which I did, and bring it back for the alignment. No high pressure sales. I took off one star, because I don't have much experience with their pricing. I only bought the one set of tires and alignment, so I can't comment on all prices. They seem reasonable though. Overall, very pleased with the service I've received here. read more

Had a flat tire a couple weeks ago, went to another Big O tires and they fixed one axle of tires quickly. This other shop treated me fair even though I was out of town and obviously in need. Yesterday I requested the second axle to be fixed and for the SAME BRAND and type of tires they wanted 20% more. So comparing with another Big O Tires - this one here in Lafayette - thanks but no! To get a better picture I went to another shop / chain in the area. There - I didn't even say that I was at another shop already, I didn't bargain, haggle or anything and still: They offered me to do it right away - even though it was 5 PM already - if only I was OK with a 45m wait and all this for LESS money! So for me Big O Tires in Lafayette actually failed twice. Learned my lesson, won't come back. read more

I ended up here at 5:15pm in a Tuesday evening after a horrible experience with another tire shop where I had waited 2 hours to have my tire repaired. I had a tire that I needed repaired if possible or replaced if necessary. I showed up 15 minutes before closing and they were able to asses my tire determine it could not be repaired, replaced with a new tire which they had in stock and had me on my way in less then 10 minutes all of which another tire shop had not been able to accomplish in 2 hours. I returned the following day because when I had come in I had brought the tire not on my vehicle but instead transported in one of my other trucks. So I came back in the following day after I had mounted the new tire back on my vehicle and they checked the balance with my other existing tires and tightened down the bolts for me at no charge. read more

Our family has been taking (3) cars to the Big O Tires in Lafayette for probably around 15 years or so. It's the only place we'll take our cars for tire needs. We find them very professional and helpful. Our young adult daughter might be taking my SUV to Tahoe and there could be snow. I wanted to "confirm" that my tires were still in good shape. Kind of a "Mom Thing." :-) Technician Ryan was very helpful, checked our records in their system (age of tires, etc.) then proceeded to go out to the car and actually measure the tire tread in several spots on all four tires. It was a 'small thing' but sometimes it is the small things that make a nice difference, and in this case, gave us peace of mind. I appreciated that he took my request seriously :-) read more

When I called for an appointment to install two tires, I was told 90 min. When I arrived, I was told 2 hours. Now, it is over three. The store was excited that after 2 hours my car was on the rack. Really? It is supposed to be done. What were they doing for the last two hours? Unless you have all day to waste, do NOT use this store. read more

Brought my car in for tires and an alignment and there was a small problem with the alignment a few months later. Jason made it right and reimbursed me for an outside repair that was needed as a result. Awesome customer service. Will defiantly use them again for tire and brake service. read more

My husband Eric told me to write this review...this is him talking. He says .....I have been taking my car into big o for a couple years now. Mostly small stuff. Today I had the tires rotated and an oil change. I had a coupon so basically the tire rotation was free. What I like about them is they are very friendly and treat me with respect even though I have small things done that don't make them any money. They don't try to talk me into things just to make a buck. They have integrity and are honest and in this business that is huge. It is actually easier to go into a ten minute oil change place but I'd rather go here because its worth it dealing with people who are honest. They even checked my brakes and said I was good to go. I was driving to the city at about 4 pm the other day and my low tire pressure alert came on. I panicked and drove to Big O Tires. They immediately checked out my car- squeezed me in even when I didn't have an appointment. Gave me the all clear after checking all of my tires and making sure that they were all ok with air and no punctures. On top of that they didn't even charge me!! They are awesome. I took my MBZ for alignment and balance to Lafayette Big O Tires last week. My car was aligned numerous times by other Big O store. And they never could align or balance the tires. We changed tires and still no cigar. This happened for the last 7 years since I purchased the car. I decided to give Lafayette store a chance. Michael H. was extremely helpful.
