I went in at the start of a calendar quarter this year, when there were fewer shoppers around. DIllon was calm and knowledgeable; and patient (took the time to run through all the dashboard settings and configure it as I wanted before I drove off). I knew what I wanted going in; this probably also helped make the purchase pretty quick and easy. They did let me take an extended test drive. Never been to this dealership before (former BMW 3 series owner). re: the car, Honda Civic Hybrid. I'm at around 1500 miles since purchase, 20%-30% highway driving. As you can see from the photo, I'm now over 53 MPG, beyond my expectations. Part of that is fewer highway miles, and keeping my speed lower there. Part of it is the design of the engine. You will sometimes be driving on the battery ("EV") even at 65-70 mph while in "Normal" mode. And at 20 mph you may be on gas for awhile even in "Econ" mode (I don't use Sport mode). The handling, steering, braking is surprisingly good, smooth, nimble. Not surprising, in hindsight, it was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines. We were very disappointed in the customer service due to inaccurate information, pressure to perform unnecessary work, and unnecessary costs due to lengthy car rental. We had a problem with our Honda hybrid. There was water pooling at the hybrid battery which was causing the service light to turn on. We took our car to Hansel Honda because friends had recommended them. After diagnosing the car, the only thing that was wrong with the vehicle was that water had leaked into the space where the hybrid battery was. The Hansel Honda representative told us that we needed to replace the entire carpet in the car due to mold which would cost a couple thousand dollars including installation. She assured us that our insurance would cover this cost and pressured us to have the carpet replaced before the insurance inspector came to assess our vehicle because there was only one left on the west coast. Based on Hansel's recommendation, we left our vehicle with them over the weekend. The insurance inspector came out the following week and denied our claim saying it was due to normal wear-and-tear in spite of the heavy rain conditions we had been experiencing. Therefore, we were out a week's cost of car rental plus the diagnosis cost and drying cost. Thank goodness we did not replace the carpet because we ended up not have any mold issues. We ended up spending much more money than was necessary due to the Hansel Honda representative giving us inaccurate information both regarding insurance and the ultimate diagnosis. Overall, we had a good experience purchasing our vehicle at Hansel. Staff were friendly, helpful, and we never felt pressured. However, I am extremely disappointed in the way Hansel handled a situation with our warranty. My husband called Hansel a couple weeks after we had purchased our vehicle because there was a rattling sound coming from the driver's side and he was concerned it was related to the sound system. He asked a Hansel staff member if he could take it to a Honda dealership that was closer to us, since Hansel is quite a drive from where we live. The staff member told my husband in no uncertain terms that Hansel would reimburse us for whatever fees we incurred, even if we took it to another Honda dealership. My husband then took the car to the other Honda dealership where they fixed the issue; he paid the $200 fee. Now, the manager at Hansel is refusing to reimburse us, saying that we should have just taken our vehicle to Hansel. He also said that most people take in their vehicles within a couple days if something is amiss. Firstly, I find it difficult to believe that people immediately take their vehicles into the shop for nonurgent issues like ours; secondly, that is irrelevant, given that we were still well within our warranty. We were well within our warranty coverage when we took the vehicle in to be serviced, and we had verbal confirmation from a staff member at Hansel that the vehicle's maintenance fees would be reimbursed even if it was at another dealership. If the employee who told us this information was incorrect, the manager should have just been honest and apologized for the mistake. If Hansel is playing games and just flat out doesn't want to pay the $200, that's even worse. It isn't just about the money; I am extremely disappointed with the unprofessional manner with which this entire situation has been handled. Even if our car has an issue in the future, we will certainly not be taking it to Hansel. I had an uncomfortable experience. I wanted to trade in my CRV so they took my key to inspect it and give me a trade in offer. I was lowballed for my CRV and while they were trying to haggle me for another car (which was a little pricey) that wouldn't meet my needs financially and physically, I wasn't able to leave when I knew I was done. They took my key for the CRV and wouldn't give it back because the manager had it. The salesperson would go back and forth to the manager to get different pricing. I was done after the sales person went the first time to the manager. They ended up going back and forth 3 times. I wasn't able to leave. I don't appreciate being held hostage because you "need to make the sales quota for the day". Next time if someone wants to leave don't say that and LET THEM LEAVE. The sales person originally made my wife angry. She told him that she didn't want any extras because they tried to sell us gap insurance when we put a very substantial amount down which covered that. An extended warranty for three grand that you don't need because you already have a warranty for 36 months and if you take it out early, that means you wasted a few years. I had my transmission fluid and brake fluid replaced 2/16/2022 with 64,021 miles with Hansel Honda in Petaluma. I went to another Honda dealership when I was out of town this week, 9/17/2024, to get my oil changed because my oil light came on. They did their point inspections and it came up saying that requires immediate attention for the transmission fluid and the brake fluid, right now of 76,040 miles. I then proceeded to contact Hansel Honda to let them know what the inspection came up with and that it was under 30,000 miles and less than three years that my fluids are already coming up for needs immediate attention. My concern was pretty much passed on by saying oh you only have four more months for the three years so it can get changed then. Again, I voiced my concerns it was under 30,000 miles and under three years and actually it's only been two years and seven months, with 5 months remaining. I was then told that if I don't drive my car at highway speeds three times a week for 45 minutes it causes the fluids to get dirtier quicker, which may be the reason. No one told me this before, and a lot of us commute and don't go 45 minutes on a freeway three times or more a week, especially when there's traffic! I felt that there was no empathy nor concern for Customer retention, especially since I fell under the 30,000 miles and three year term. I really wanted to like this dealership. Bought a 20k miles used 2022 Honda HR-V less than 3 months ago with them and the battery died, which makes me real upset because I had to pay for a new battery. I towed my car there, they told me their repair service would close at 5 and if the tow service got there before they would call me (They didn't call me to tell and also they actually close at 5:30 and my triple A got there before that). I had to call them to know about my car the next day and it's VERY HARD to get to reach out to them. Their customer service is terrible. They reach out through texts instead of making a call to explain what happened to the car and they take VERY LONG to text back. Every time I tried to call to ask updates nobody answers the phone and neither respond quickly. Also, they told me through text my battery replacement would cost $229.25 and when I got at Hansel to finally pick up my car, they charged me $475.95 and told me it was the price of battery replacement plus diagnosis, which they NEVER told me neither through texts or phone that would have that extra charge. This is very frustrating and if I could I will never buy or get services done with them again. read more

Ordering a car through Hansel Honda? Read on. We were shopping around for an HRV, Liam reached out to us and said there was one coming in, price is MSRP, just need a deposit to reserve it. So far so good. But deposit needs to be done in person and a credit application will need to be filled out. Ok, that's inconvenient and unusual, but fine. Drove the hour to the dealership to put my deposit down, completed the credit application. Dealership informs me that Honda requires 4 references for the credit app. I have purchased from Honda before, purchased vehicles before including very recently, never been asked for 4 referenced. Ok, procedure is procedure. Paid the $1000 refundable deposit, got my VIN, shook hands, and left. 10 minutes into my drive home, Liam calls me to mention that Hansel Honda has a policy where I will only have 24 hours to pick up the vehicle upon its arrival. I said that's fine if you give me some sort of advanced notice, I live an hour away and I have some trips coming up. I asked what would happen if they tell me that the vehicle will arrive while I was out of town, or even on a Monday and I can't get there until the weekend due to work obligations, he stated store policy is 24 hours. I explained I just drove an hour each way, completed a credit application, provided 4 references, and paid $1000.00, and all I get is 24 hours, no guarantee of any sort of notice, to pick up the car? That is the store policy. So we reviewed our other options and elected to go a different route. I contacted Liam on 8/15 to inform him we would be pulling our deposit. He said I'm letting my impatience get the best of me. I explained their 24 hour policy left a bad taste which forced me to continue shopping around which led me to something better. Agree to disagree. He said no problem, I should have it back to me in 5-6 business days. 8/25, 9 business days later, I messaged Liam seeking status on my refund. He stated he just asked his finance manager to look into it. I checked in a few hours later, said I should have an answer by tomorrow. 8/26 I messaged Liam asking where was my refund. He stated it's being processed. I asked when can I expect it, 30 minutes go by with no response. I contacted my bank who stated no refund has been initiated. I message Liam this, he then responds that their system shows it was refunded yesterday, it should "taka a couple of days ago", I'm assuming means it will take a couple days. So I pointed out to Liam that he has now stated on this day that it was being processed, to refunded yesterday, to initiated yesterday. He apologized for the first time and explained by no means they are holding my money and told me to give it a few days and it should be in your account. I then asked for a copy of the receipt, again Liam stated he was busy and that he appreciated my patience. I gave him a few hours and then I messaged I will file a complaint with Honda. I then received a call from Luis who is assisting Liam, meanwhile I was already on the phone with Honda. I explained I am looking for the receipt for the deposit. He stated he would call me back within 15 minutes. I received the receipt shortly thereafter. FWIW, the receipt showed the refund was processed on 8/26 after I reached out to Liam (text messages and receipts are all timestamped). This market is admittedly unprecedented, with a ton of issues, however many dealers play games with allocations, many OEMs are requiring deposits and applications to be filled out in order for dealers to get priority for vehicles. A simple apology upfront and correcting the situation would've went a long way. read more

Overall, I have always liked and PRAISED Handel Honda's service department and would have normally given a 5 star review here and now. But this last appointment left a little to be desired. Along with my annual maintenance, I had a problem with my radio (I needed a code to turn it on), and that was fixed. But I was disappointed (pissed really) that someone changed my stations to Christian Country (FM) and Christian Blah-Blah-Blah (AM). It screwed up ALL my settings and it was a pain in the ass to get them back to NORMAL. I know this is a minor issue, but NO ONE has the right to mess with someone's property because you are a member of some cult/religion and you feel it necessary to prostelytize. This place sold me a car that has a myriad of problems, then sold me an expensive contract that was supposedly to make it worry free. Except every time I bring the car in (to Honda next store, also owned by them) they charge me $99. Whether it's to turn off a check engine light, due to their car's malfunction or it's an oil change it's about a hundred dollars. When there was a bent exhaust pipe they said it wasn't covered. $900 dollars was the quote. The guy down the street in Sonoma fixed it for $150. When I called last week to see if I needed to go to them for the supposedly needed oil change, they said any Honda could honor the contract. I get here and they say actually oil changes aren't covered (it was their system that told me to come in). So I came to a Honda for no reason. When I complained no apology. When I went to talk to the sales person about this $3500 service contract that has not covered even one of the four problems this year, he straight up said "the lesson is you should read contracts more carefully." Thats it. Great customer service. The two stars I'm giving them are for the one salesman who was actually motivated to sell me my car a year ago. The rest of them didn't even try. Go elsewhere and don't buy the automotive contract from Honda- it sucks. read more

Luis reached out to us via phone call and email. Our conversation quickly advanced from there. Luis did everything in his power to correct these damages. The same day that the prior freshly angry review was posted, Luis immediately reached out to my boyfriend and came to pick up my boyfriend's car and left him with a car that he can use while his windshield was being replaced. We cannot appreciate Luis enough with the amount of weight that he lifted off our shoulders. Luis did every single communication with the service rep/manager in regards to the rust damage. Luis handled all the hard work and kept responding to us with good news. The outcome is Honda approved the repair of the paint. All the damages would've cost approximately $8000+ out of pocket, if a specific paint warranty did not kick in for the rust and windshield did not get resolved by the dealership. Luis was 100% so on top of it with constant communications with the status of all repairs. He never made us feel like we were a burden or left us hanging. The wife called to find out how much it would cost for this dealership to replace it. The person who first picked up the phone transfered her to parts. Once on the line with parts department, she told the person she needed an alternator. The person told her that the Honda Fit has a "special" electrical system, and they don't make rebuilt alternators. The person told her the new alternator would cost $1,100. Not including labor. Having heard this, I logged on to a local chain auto parts store and located a rebuilt for just over $200. One You Tube video, and a hour later I installed the rebuilt alternator myself saving a lot. read more
