I received a coupon in the mail from Napa Tire for a "free" oil change. As per the coupon, an oil change for vehicles that use "up to 5 quarts 5w-20/5w-30 synthetic blend oil with spin-on filter", a $71.50 value, is "completely free". The friendly letter attached goes on to state that there are "no hidden strings, no add-ons, no kidding". So, I gave them a call to schedule the oil change, as one of my vehicles is due for an oil change. I usually do them myself but hey, free is free! Plus, if this went well, I need tires and alignment on the same vehicle, and I would have likely given them this business. The vehicle in question is a 1997 GMC Yukon, which specifies 5 quarts of your typical 5W-30 motor oil and uses a common spin-on oil filter. Plus, it's super easy to change oil on, with no underbody shields or other stuff modern cars might have that increases labor time. Anyway, I'm giving you all this mostly useless information for a simple reason... I was informed over the phone by Napa Tire that my "free" oil change, that met all the requirements of their coupon, would cost me an additional $29 out of pocket. The only explanation I was given as to why the free oil change as not, well, free, was because "a single quart of oil costs like $8.50 these days." That's funny, because you can order a 55-gallon drum of API-certified 5W-30 synthetic blend on Home Depot's website for $714 with free shipping. That's about $3.25/quart. And it's not the oil filter that's expensive either... you can buy a case of Wix Protec 51036 filters for about $2/each. So, I'm posting this review for a simple reason - if the coupon had said the oil change was $29, I probably would have given it a try, as that's a good deal for an oil change at a shop and not having to do it yourself. But if you are going to offer a free oil change, it should actually be free for qualifying vehicles. Anything different is simply false advertising. And false advertising = scam. Far from the honest "AAA-certified" and "NAPA AutoCare professional" "customer service" and "technical competence" they claim to have. read more

I had a bad situation turned around to the "positive" thanks to NAPA TIRE. We had spent a few days in Napa (Silverado) and got up to return home. As we headed out, the tire pressure gauge came on indicating low pressure in the back passenger side tire. This was not OK with over an hour of freeway driving ahead of us. We also had a commitment back home in 3 hours. After Googling tire shops, we found Napa Tire less than 3 miles away. These gentlemen were fantastic. After we explained our situation, they juggled their work around and started on our car immediately. Within 30 minutes they patched our tire and had us on our way. WOMEN BEWARE!!! If I could rate 0 stars, trust me I would. Had my cars check engine light come on during my commute down Silverado Trail, so I pulled over and had it towed to the only Triple A recommended mechanic, which was this place. Got a courtesy call after it had been towed, and that's where the decency ends. I was told they wouldn't be able to look at the car til Monday morning (a few days later), which was fine since I had already gotten a rental car. Got a call at 845 the next morning (Saturday) saying that my car was experiencing engine & transmission failure and it would cost $9-15k to fix, but they'd have more information for me on Monday when they could actually look at the car. Complete engine & transmission failure. On a Subaru. With 115k miles on it. With all routine maintenance performed, and no other mechanic mentioning any sort of issues. With no issues, EVER, since owning the car. Monday comes, I get a cryptic email from Jay Sr with NO explanations or indicator of anything being actually checked, with a quote for $14k plus tax. I responded back with a request for an itemized invoice including all checks that were done that lead to this diagnosis for my car. No response. I call Tuesday morning and Jay Jr let's me know he saw my email and that his dad was finishing up with a client and would call me back. Three hours later, I get a call from Sr who is rudely telling me he emailed me the invoice, which I told him I didn't receive anything. He immediately begins cutting me off whenever I try to say anything, and he says to me "well since you're on the phone, I'll just tell you right now" and I ask that he still email me the information I requested as well. He gets angry, and says "I'll just email it to you again, goodbye" and hangs up on me. No email is received. Triple A is contacted again that day, to have my car towed and taken to the Subaru dealership because I refuse to be disrespected and hung up on, especially when I'm being told my car is going to take $15k to supposedly fix. Triple A gets to the shop and Jay Sr refuses to release the car without being paid for services (which he never even told me what was actually done), so fine, here's your $185 to get my car out of this place. I go to Subaru the next day (Wednesday) and my car is nowhere to be found. Come to find out, Jay Sr never released my vehicle to be towed, in spite of being paid, and I was given NO call of any kind to be told that my vehicle was still at this shop. After FINALLY receiving an itemized invoice after calling Triple A to have it towed away again, it was proven that the oil dipstick had been checked, and codes had been run. That was IT. I have never been treated so poorly by a business, been spoken to so disrespectfully, and surely have never been hung up on. After reading previous reviews by other women, it's obvious this place is opportunistic and has no issue with taking advantage of women. read more

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!! I took my truck in for an alignment after I installed a level kit on the front suspension. I was told it would be charged hourly to do this alignment before they started the work and I wasn't ok with it (this should've only taken about 2 hours). They then broke parts of my suspension attempting to do the alignment. On top of that I had dropped my truck off before 8 am expecting to have it done in a day, I then had to call for an update around 4pm to find out they had broken my truck and I wasn't going to have my truck till next day. When I went to pickup my truck they then charged me for all the labor to replace the broken parts (that they broke!!) and for the parts too! I would never recommend anyone use this shop for any thing! The young guy that was doing the work on my truck was honest on the phone about breaking the parts and even told me he didn't have much experience doing wheel alignments! He also said this was the first time this has happed to him. However the owner did not take care of me the way he should have. I shouldn't have had to pay for them to fix what they f***ed up. At the end of the day I did the labor of installing the parts to save money just to pay them to do the work I had already done. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!! read more

The last time she went for an oil change, Jay Sr. told her she didn't need it and would just be wasting her money. When we contacted them regarding thier failing falling to install all the parts...they were flippant and dismissive " we don't warranty custom parts and work"...well my little achoholic friend...what you did was not install all the parts...so go hang out at Trankas Restaurant and play big shot with the locals. This review is for their AUTO SERVICE department... We brought in our '05 Explorer looking for help with what seems like a problem with the transmission. It was repaired just over a year ago by Napa Valley Transmissions and still under the 3 year warranty, but sadly NVT has since closed. We were hoping at the very least for some knowledgeable feedback and a more pointed assessment. The only thing we got was a bill for $175 and a list of OBD codes. What's really crappy is we were quoted $89 and didn't know about the price jump until we were there to pick up the vehicle. They said the extra fees were for the number of codes listed. My husband even told them that we have an OBD scanner at home and already knew about more than half the code readings. We were overcharged for a service that was completely useless, and we left feeling like they're lacking big time in expertise and customer service. We agreed we won't be taking any of our vehicles back there again. read more

A special shout out to Jeff. When I picked up a nail in the tire of my Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, Jeff managed to get me a badly needed replacement. He also worked out a bend in the rim caused by hitting a pothole, thus saving me a bundle for a new wheel. Was on a county road in Mendocino.  We got a flat fire.  I used Fix-a-Flat.   We took the car to Napa Auto Tire because of their rating and reputation.  They fixed it and it works good but whoever it was I don't like how rude they were to my wife.  They fixed the tire Wednesday.  I went the next morning at 9:30 am to get the old tire to use as a spare and they said the tire was stolen last night.  While it's possible I find it very hard to believe.  I think they didn't want to give me my old tire.  I don't trust these guys and I don't like how rude they are to my wife. read more

This was my final visit. I was very disappointed with the service and treatment by Jay Sr. I have been a long time customer, have taken all our vehicles and used to refer everyone to this place. Jay Jr and the other fellas have always provided great customer service in the past. Upon this last visit I was unable to take my car in as usual, so my husband brought it in for me. I recently had them change my tires and had other services done. When my husband arrived Jay Jr was rude and telling my husband we need this and that basicially ripping him off. My husband informed Jay Sr. that my wife got all this done not even a week ago and to look in their database. He continued to be rude and insisted. When my husband called and told me this, I called Jay Jr. myself and told him to cease all service. Bought my wonderful Goodyear tires here. Didn't try and sell me anything more than what I asked and needed; 4 good/great tires that will last. Fast frindely service. This time I got another Screw in my tire and I dove on it a little to long before noticing but they were able to fit it with letting me know I need a New tire ASAP. No charge which was a nice surprise. They where closing soon but did it without complaint and on a Sat too. I highly recommend Napa Tire. It's worth getting Brand name tires that will last and much quieter then the Store brands of always used and only last 2-4 years but suppose to last 10. Payed a LITTLE more but it's worth it! Also it's a Napa family owned business. I'll be back for my New tire in one to two weeks. read more

I had my oil changed there a few months ago, and decided to go back the other day when my rear shocks needed to be replaced and I had a check engine light on. They also performed an alignment on my car. -Everyone that I communicated with was helpful and knowledgeable. They kept me in the loop to discuss price on my engine repair, and all of the work was done in a timely manner. -They are very organized with their paperwork and documentation of the work they performed, which I greatly appreciate. -The quality of their work is exceptional. We've been going here for 15 to 20 yrs. Use to love love the quality service. However, my last two experiences have been awful, we will never go back. After putting new shocks/struts on one of my cars, I drove it home and it had a horrible grinding noice. It was obvious that they didn't check the work or drive it. They did make it right, no problem. Then I purchased new tires on my other car from them, when I got it on the freeway at 70 mph, the car shook, they didnt balance the tires. I called and told them, Jay Jr, said he'd have to charge me. After telling my husband of this I called Jay back and I told him we didn't need the appt as we were very disappointed because we haven't had the tires that long. They were recommended to us by a friend, and this was the best, most professional, experience with a tire shop that I have had over the past 20 years living in this area. We had a slow leak in one tire, so we called and were given an appointment. When we arrived, they were ready for us. The person behind the counter was pleasant, greeted us by name, took down some information, immediately put the car on a rack. Less than 30 minutes later they had found the leak, patched it, and we were out of there on our way home. And the best part of the visit was the cost - only $30 total. Here's my story, Napa Tire 2017 I buy 4 Goodyear 235-80x16 10 ply trailer tires from Jeff, across the street from the main shop. I had worked with Jeff in the past and had great experiences with him, the guy gets it done!!!! I told Jeff I had separations on the trailer tires and wanted to buy something better, Jeff sold me the Goodyear tires, said they had good luck with them. Move forward to July of 2020, checking my tires before a road trip I noticed one of the Goodyear tires had tire separation, about 75-80% of the tire was still there, took it off went to napa tire and Jeff said company policy was that they don't warranty trailer tires, he was sorry but he doesn't make the policy's. He called over and spoke with Jay Sr. and came back at me with "jay said no warranty but if I wanted to buy 4 new Hercules tires he would give a good deal" Jeff took the tire off my wheel to inspect to see if there was any damage or it had been repaired, found nothing. I loaded the tire and wheel into the back of my truck and went over to les Schwab tire in napa ca. and bought a new tire.. Thought about it for awhile so I called and spoke with Jay Sr. he was not apologetic at all, said if I wanted he would send the tire into the factory and see what they thought. In these times, right, a month from now I would call them and probably get "oh man I think that tire got lost, you know with all the covid stuff happening". He allowed me to rant for about ten minutes and speak my piece and that was it, nothing!! If I ran my businesses like this I would be out of business quick. Take care of your customers. Les Schwab policy is you buy there tires and it fails bring it back and it's replaced with no bullshit involved. Your back on the road in no time at all.. For a company that's been in the Napa Valley as long as they have one would think they would do a better job than they do.. read more

Interesting experience - car was overdue for an oil change and took it in to Napa Tire. They were running a special for the oil change, saving me $20 - even better they took me same day with no appointment. The bad news: they called 3 hours later stating that I "have some bulbs out and air filters that need replacing" in my head - I thought bulbs, filters, must be less than $100 or so to add on so I said OK. Got the car back and the bill was over $220 - from the original $20 for an oil change (after coupon). How is it ok to give someone the impression that additional work outside the estimate should not add up to much more actually comes to over 20X the original estimate? A little sneaky in my book - but I should have known and flat out asked I guess. It should be a policy to verbalize the price if there will be a significant change however. So three stars for the work done. Its average. Knocked off another star for charging me so much and not giving my car a rinse or rotating the tires and not determining the fault code for the check engine light. Will not be coming back. read more

I took my car in for an oil change and had an online coupon for $20 off, so the oil change and filter cost me $30 plus change, which I thought was decent. They did a very thorough workup on my car, told me what they felt needed fixing and gave me quotes, and treated my cat to milk and me to a ginger ale. What more could you ask for? I would give Napa Tires a Zero Star, Jay and Jay Jr. are the biggest rip off used car sales men. Both Jay and Jay Jr. put four new tires on my car and they were bald within 8 months and my mechanic who does my front wheel alignment said who sold you "cheap, Chinese tires"? Jay & Jay Jr. Then my alternator went out and my mechanic was closed on a Saturday so I made the biggest mistake and I took my car to Napa Tires to have the alternator replaced and the alternator went bad with in one year!! Jay and Jay Jr. replaced the alternator a second time and it lasted for one year and I was stranded on the road out in a vineyard at 11:00 PM at night waiting for a tow truck to tow my car to my mechanics shop. Again, my mechanic said who sold you the cheap, Chinese alternator twice and it was Jay and Jay Jr. the biggest crooks in Napa!! Both of these men love taking advantage of women and senior citizens!!! I would NEVER go to Napa Tires and I have reported both of these men to the Bureau of Automotive Repair!
