I've been anxious to find out what all the hype is all about with this San Jose institution. This weekend I finally had my chance. Two profound thoughts occured while having breakfast with a group of friends. 1) Who would ever have thought of making croissants into french toast (listed on menu as Parissiene French Toast)? 2) Who would ever have thought of putting corned beef hash in my eggs benedict (listed on menu as El Paso Benedict)? Two questions.... one answer... BILL'S CAFE!! Another thought occured to me as I was diving into my second piece of croissant french toast. I should go to Costco and get a huge pack of croissants so I can make this at home. Then I realized, I'd rather just come back for more good eats at Bill's and try out the rest of their menu. the food was de-lish! Expect a wait. I like this place, half of the restaurant is in the open, the other half inside. Breakfast selections are plenty and you will spend a good 5 minutes perusing the menu. It is in front of a busy street and it gets busy on Sunday morning so get in early and relax a bit. One thing I notice if you're sitting in the open, you'll probably hear a lot of conversation from those people in the outside and motorcycle pops from those old fellas revving their Harleys outside (Arent these guys supposed to be in the open road instead of being in the middle of the city at 11am on Sunday? You forgot your ear medication Grandpa!). I ordered a MonteCristo, which comes with fries and a small cup of soup (chicken porridge I think). The soup was good, the MonteCristo was a little oily (I guess thats pretty common for a MonteCristo sandwich). Next time, I'm trying out one of the omelets or the Eggs Benedict versions. 11:30am... Hungover... 1 hour wait for two... 90-degree weather... This was my Sunday at Bill's. Sounds terrible, right? Well, it absolutely sucked. I was dying... Until we sat down at our table. My friend Niki and I went big Saturday night. It's safe to say we had way too much to drink. I rarely blackout but I can't recollect how we got home and anything that happened after we got back to her place. When we woke up in the morning, she was so excited to take me to Bill's - she's been telling me about this place for weeks. LOCATION: Located in downtown Willow Glen. The area is cool. Has a quaint feel to it with a long street lined with all kinds of shops and boutiques. This is key because Bill's usually has a long wait. Instead of sitting and patiently (or impatiently) waiting for your table, take a walk and check out the surrounding area to kill time. ATMOSPHERE: Bill's has indoor and outdoor seating - outdoor seating is where it's at. Their outside patio is surrounded with plants and flowers and they do a great job of keeping the whole area shaded. Thank god because it was scorching hot this past Sunday. If you get a chance, try to sit outside. It's a better experience. SERVICE: It was good. Not great but good. Nothing special. The place is a zoo so the staff is pretty much running around like crazy. But our server was fine. I will give him props for constantly refilling my water glass because I was SO dehydrated! FOOD: I went against everyone repping the Crab Cakes Benedict because the sound of seafood didn't sit well with my stomach so I opted for the El Paso Benedict (Sauteed peppers, onions and corned beef hash topped on an English Muffin with two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce) which comes with either fresh hashbrowns or seasoned country potatoes - I got the hashbrowns. The whole plate was delicious. It was literally a hangover cure on a plate. The eggs were runny (BIG SCORE), the corned beef hash was a little crispy and salty (PERFECT), the english muffin was nicely toasted (AWESOME) and the hashbrowns were MONEY! My only complaints is that their hollandaise sauce was lacking the flavor I was expecting. OVERALL: I have to admit that Bill's doesn't provide anything special. You can find the same food at other restaurants that specialize in breakfast. I think Bill's reputation exceeds their quality. Don't get me wrong, it's good food but it's not amazing. Their eggs benedict tastes the same as any other place and so did their corned beef hash and hashbrowns. But the atmosphere is great and even though I didn't find the food that special, I'd go back again. REAL RATING: 3.5 stars read more

I'm very anti-Bill's Café. Not because I don't like the food but because I hate waiting for breakfast. Its the first meal of the day.. I'm hungry! But I had a rare break in my weekday and my husband was off from work so we decided to go last Thursday. The place was half full if that. We were seated immediately and had our pick of indoor or out. We sat outside. There was at least one dedicated outdoor waiter. But we didn't get him as our server. How did I know? Well we did that "close the menu and look around" method which usually lets a server know were ready to order. But instead the outside waiter leaned on the bar looking at his phone then had a conversation with another employee. At the very least I would have liked him to acknowledge us and say "she'll be right out." Our waitress did eventually come to take our orders just in time because we were about to walk out. I ordered the much reviewed crab cake benedict and my husband ordered corn beef hash. For $11 and some change I got really good benedicts and some potatoes. Even the English muffin was delicious. And for the tasty breakfast I am giving them 3 stars. However I did think it was slightly overpriced. My husband got a lot more food for a few dollars less. Customer service just wasn't there. I could understand of it was a super busy day but it wasn't. Its been a good 4-5 years since I've been to the Willow Glen location prior. Avoid the waiter with gray spiky hair and tan skin, he's an older male in his 40-50s and will only take one persons order and walk away and come as he pleases then scream at you for not tipping you. This place knocks breakfast outta the park! Once upon a time I had eaten here. I don't remember much, since I was nursing a major hangover at the time. But my friends continue to rave about it, and I had a perfect occasion recently to catch up with an old friend and I decided Bill's was the place. Yes, there are tons of people waiting outside; but isn't that a good thing? We were told a 30 min. wait, but in fact it was more like 15 min. The patio is a great place to sit and eat. Inside it was majorly loud, and being in the open air took the edge off some. The waiters are kooky and funny; not sure if they're joking sometimes. Very dry humor, but incredibly attentive and I didn't feel rushed at all. The food - is yummpy! And really affordable! I ordered Bill's Original Skillet; a ton of food, with delicious grilled potatoes. This dish didn't seem to end, but I certainly wasn't complaining! My boyfriend ordered the monstrous Chicken Fired Steak and Eggs. This thing spans two big plates and was delicious as well. They certainly know how to cook up some great breakfast grub. I came here after the Rock N Roll Marathon after yelping it... In my book anything over 3.5 is worth a try. Being a solid 4 stars I came here expecting greatness. What a #$% mistake! The food here is mediocre at best. It could have been what I ordered, but my friend was also unimpressed with the food. Being a southern boy I always gravitate towards the country fried steak and eggs when I visit a new venue. The steak didn't taste like it was made on the spot. I've prepared and eaten country fried steak throughout my childhood and it's probably one of the simplest and hassle free dishes you can make. This can me made to order. SEVERAL employees were not wearing their masks correctly. When serving food and drinks it should covering your mouth AND nose. WEARING A FACE MASK AS A CHIN STRAP DOES NOT COUNT. I work at a restaurant myself and while the job can be challenging it is not hard to wear a mask at all times to make the customers feel safe. While dining here, I felt incredibly unsafe. The bare minimum to make customers feel safe during this unprecedented time, is for the staff to wear masks. I saw MULTIPLE staff members (some even carrying out food), not wearing a mask or wearing their mask as a chin strap, not covering their mouth OR nose. I also saw a customer walk into the restaurant to use the restroom with NO MASK whatsoever. I have been to multiple restaurants during this time and have NEVER seen such terrible following of protocol by employees. If you are looking for a safe place to dine, this is NOT the restaurant for you, as I felt INCREDIBLY unsafe the whole time. I love breakfast and now I love Bill's Cafe. At the advice of other reviewers, I got there early (8a) and there was zero wait. I also heard loud and clear that this place has awesome eggs benedict. So naturally, I had to order one of those and I picked the Crab Cakes Benedict. Holy toledo. You have to get this on your first/next visit. Crab cakes = perfectly crunchy on the inside and bursting with flavor on the inside. Eggs = perfectly poached. Hollandaise sauce = I wish I had asked for some extra on the side. My friend and I came here on Black Friday and it was packed. Lucky we were only 15 minutes away so we called ahead of time to let them know we were coming. Table for two, please. We were greeted by a hostess that seemed like she'd rather be at the malls shopping for stellar deals rather than at this joint. I don't blame her. Who wants to work on Black Friday anyway? Let's just say the drive down to Willow Glen was totally worth a meal at Bill's Cafe. I'm definitely coming back with more friends this time, because everything about this restaurant is astonishing. Didn't even have to wait for a table, everything on the menu was pretty unique too. From omelettes to benedictions, to skillets, with cups of coffee at your side, this is everything I imagined an American Breakfast eatery would be. The only embarrassing part was when we tried to take pictures of our food. We were trying to get a nice picture for two minutes as we pushed our plates together and such and a random waitress walks over and asks us if everything was alright. "Yeah everything's good! I've always heard about this place but I never pushed myself to try it out until my best friend and her friends decided to go give it a try. We were all Bill's Cafe virgins at the time and we depended on the photos from yelp to help us explore. Myself and my friend decided to get the Crab Cake Benedict, her boyfriend got something that I forgot, and my best friend got some Mexican spiced benedict. I forgot the names. I had a pretty high bar set for this place so when I took my first bite, I saw why it was popular but I failed to see why it was THAT popular. It was delicious none the less and the wait was well worth it but I think I had the standards set too high. The wait here aren't all that bad really. It's a hit and miss. My first visit here, they told us 1:30 hours and we waited just about 1:30 hours. My second visit they told us 45 minutes and they called us within 15. Wow where do I even start? Food? Love it! Environment? Very Cozy! Service? EXCELLENT! First of all, if it's nice out, you should definitely have breakfast outside on the patio. It's just so relaxing out there. I came here with 3 good friends and this place definitely made breakfast so much more enjoyable. The service is AWESOME. From the moment we got there, they were constantly attending to us, making sure our coffee was constantly being filled, asking if we needed anything. So attentive and really funny too. I wanted a group picture with my friends and out of a joke, the waiters and even the manager got in the picture too! The people sitting around us even joked saying that they wanted their picture taken (which the waiters did. I know have pictures of random strangers in my camera haha) I don't know what it is but it's always enjoyable when everyone around you (servers and the other customers) are SO friendly. I could go on and on about the service itself. One of the friendliest place I've ever gone to. The food is great. There's so much to choose from I don't even know where to start. Everyone on Yelp talked about their signature Bread Pudding French Toast. I'm not a fan of french toast but this was DELICIOUS. It's sweet but not overly sweet. Their Crab Cakes Benedict is pretty good too. So is the Portobello Mushroom Benedict. I got the Veggie Skillet which was okay, I only got it because it had a lot of ingredients that I love haha The price is pretty decent for the amount of food you get. No complaints in that area. The food here is really good! But my experience at this place was more than just about the food. My boyfriend at the time didn't want to hold my hand. Planet Rockin our heads off to Willow Glen cause they had gone to some Crazy Legs workshop and were still groovin to the mix tape. As we roll by Bill's I notice there's a big crowd outside and turns out the wait is an hour and a half. My head spins and we wait. My sister rolls in with her kids and her bf, Jodee rolls up with Pete and my nephew wants to play jujitsu. Okay fine let's play, a smoke is offered, there's free coffee available and there's plenty of laughs and conversation of the fight the night before. Looks left, hmm, looks right, huh...interesting...hangover is beginning. Damned Hen. Mid smoke I find we're about to be seated and I toss the smoke and am off to follow the group. Grab a coffee. down it and am now seated. Down a couple of waters and open up the menu. The menu looks great, greasy and there's one thing that seriously catches my eye and I don't know why. Greek yogurt, toasted walnuts w/ strawberries and honey. WTF? I want that!!!! I place the order and keep drinking water, the waiter puts a pitcher in front of me. As I'm eating my yogurt, my wife asks if I'd like to try her crab cake eggs benedict. The crab cake would be good on it's own, but put atop a toasted english muffin, topped with a poached egg and covered with hollandaise, YUM!!! My cousin asks if I'd like to try her eggs cordon bleu benedict..wtf is that? So she gives me HALF of her order, okay fine I'll eat it. That stuff was very tasty, poached eggs on top of I don't know, but it was good! Instead of an english muffin a croissant was used YUM! She also kicked me down some of her banana pancakes which was fluffy and banana...umm banana-ee? Dunno it was good and I'm sober!!! Still dunno why I still got these scabs though... So: Greek Yogurt, strawberries with toasted walnuts drizzled with honey. Was really good, nothing wrong with it and it seems pretty healthy compared to the rest of what was at our table. Crab cake benedict - The crab cakes can stand alone as they are pretty good. But put on top of a perfectly toasted muffin and topped with eggs and sauce, it'd be hard to go wrong with this. Eggs cordon bleu - Very tasty, the cheese was melted over the ham and the egg and hollandaise over the egg and...the fat kid who loves cake would toss the cake and reach for this dish instead. Banana pancakes - Fluffy, chewy and has bananas in it. I put my yogurt stuff on them and made a nice tasty mess on my plate and finished it all. Hangover cure rating 8/10, the waiters might have recognized the symptoms of a hangover hence the pitcher placed right in front of me. The food consisted of grease plus carbs that would soak up the Hennessy and it SO did. Great place to fix your hangover, but ONLY if you can take the wait. If I'm not so hungover next time I'll try a mimosa...nah! That shits for girls! LOL read more

Bills Cafe is a delicious breakfast place that is hands down way better than any Dennys or IHOP around. Everything is so fresh, flavorful, and huge so what is there to NOT like about that. There are multiple Bill's Cafe locations. The original one is on Willow Street in San jose and that is ALWAYS PACKED. Save yourself some time. I am luckier when it comes to waiting for The Alameda Bill's Cafe and it tends to be less crowded there. Try that location out :) WHAT I GOT 1) You have to try their special bread pudding french toast. It is their special recipe with french toast, bananas on top and syrup on top. IT IS DIVINE and super sweet and it is even good as leftovers. You definitely want to balance it out with something just as delicious but salty....which brings me to number two! 2) The crabs cake benedict with the hollandaise sauce is bombbbb. Every bite is flavorful and that egg on top really makes it taste better when the yolk explodes all over. If you want to be "healthier" and not get the crispy fried crab cake, you can get the salmon crab cake. Just as good. **TIPS** 1) This place will always be busy on the weekend during lunchtime. To avoid the crowds, go super early when it opens or come later for a late lunch. 2) Try the other locations and not the original on Willow. There are about 4 other locations in San Jose that you can try that people may not know about so you can shorten the wait by 15 minutes if you go to those. 3) Enjoy! read more

Simply put, Bill's Cafe rocks! Went here on Valentine's Day and the place was packed, as expected, but it was only a 30 min wait so we decided to tough it out. While you wait, you can order drinks and they'll bring em out to you so you can sip on something. Their menus include things like waffles, pancakes, omelettes, along with different variations of each. They also have Bill's Famous Mimosa which is pretty good - has strawberries and oranges in it. I decided to order the Strawberry Pancake Crunch which had strawberries AND frosted flakes in them! Their pancakes were big, moist, and delicious. My date had the original belgian waffle and it was perfect.. just the right amount of crispy but still soft. Oh, and the service was great. Despite the large amount of people filling up the cafe, they were still very attentive and got us everything we needed. There were so many different things on the menu that I wanted to try but I'll have to wait until next time to try something new. This Bill's is the original Bills! My cousin and I always come here when she is in town and its such a special day for us when we do. I've been to almost every other bills in this area and this one is really the best one; service is better, food is better, ambiance is better; everything about this particular location is better than the rest. Always get the Greek Lemon soup when you, always. Even if you are going for breakfast do it, you wont be sorry. Breakfast burritos are amazing, Crab Cake Benedict is amazing, omelettes are amazing. Really cute neighborhood brunch place. The place was pretty packed at around 10am on a Saturday. The outdoor patio wasn't that crowded, so my friend and I grabbed a table. I had to scoot next to him so that I wouldn't face direct sunlight. Thank god for sunglasses! Everything on the menu looked delicious - we ended up ordering the El Paso Benedict and the Bread pudding french toast. Yum! Portions were just right (although we split both, and I left still a bit hungry...). I eat like a cow though, so for normal people, portions should be perfect! We were able to substitute the side order of bacon/sausage/ham with country style potatoes. I also ordered a cup of hot water, and they didn't look at me funny. Service was fast and friendly, very chill and relaxing atmosphere. This place is really dog friendly as well. There were probably 3 or 4 dogs around us. This restaurant was horrible. I expected to like it and to be a regular routine to come here but after my first experience there I'm not coming back or recommending this place to anybody. I don't expect waiters to be catering to me every second and I don't expect food to be perfect but being here was very uncomfortable. The food was horrible and the waiter literally followed my boyfriend and I to the car insisting that we forgot to sign but we did sign and it was obvious however he was implying that we sign the tip line to tip him. It was very awkward. There are more reasons that I don't feel comfortable to put on here as to why my time here was awful and why we didn't tip. I came here today because I always love strolling around Willow Glen after some nice brunch. I asked our waiter what the specials were today and it was a Southwest benedict with avocado, onions, tomato and chorizo. When I took my first bite I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. The chorizo wasn't overly spicy like other places and the eggs and avocado gave it such a smooth finish. The potatoes went really great with it as well because it added a sort of burrito quality to the whole dish. The only reason why my review is less than perfect is just because we had the unfortunate seat in front of the bussing station so the clank of dishes would often overpower our conversation from time to time. The only complaint my friend had was about the saltiness of the pork, but it seemed pretty standard by American standards. read more

The decor is a little dated and needs to bring up to date. The food is typical of what you would see at any other dinner. I ordered the eggs benedict and a side order of hash browns. unfortunately my hash browns had metal fakes in it. From that point on I was disturbed. I complained to the waitress and she brought me a fresh order however to my surprise it had the metal flakes as well. The manger came over and he could not understand where it came from and offered me another side dish. Obviously their equipment is getting old and flaking metal pieces into the food. I used have a friend that lived down the way from here so this would be where we'd meet for breakfast. On the good days sit outside or on the others, go grab yourself a booth. Hard to wrong with corned beef hash or a hash brown skillet. Service is friendly, evoking the diner days of days past. read more

New review: I've given this restaurant another chance and unfortunately it was the last chance. Inattentive waitress, silverware and napkins came after the food. I ordered poached eggs with canadian bacon. I got hard boiled eggs and canadian bacon. My friend ordered some sausage that she spit out, I tried it and it tasted old, really old. The toast was burnt and the waitstaff was inattentive. At least the cute hostess flirted with me :D. But I've had a consistently subpar experience so I'm just going to have to go elsewhere for breakfast on Sundays. Former review: Not that impressed. I had the Petaluma scramble. The food was average but not bad. Its pretty hard to screw up breakfast though. The coffee was bad. The server we had was a little too distracted. If someone mentioned it I wouldn't be opposed to going but I wouldn't suggest it myself. Lotsa babies so I guess its kid friendly. read more

After waiting for a few minutes, we were seated at the booth area and was greeted by an overly-cheerful lady (must be drinking too much of their coffee). She filled our coffee cup, gave us a few minutes to look at their extensive menu and came back taking our orders. It was Saturday and they have a Shrimp Omelette special. Sold! I ordered my shrimp omelette, Hubby got the Churizo with hash browns, and a side of pancakes. We love every bite of it and even had alot to take home. Their portions are huge, the taste is really good, their coffee is how it should be, and the price... well, you pay for the quality of the food. Can get pretty expensive but it's so worth it. Came back for a late breakfast yesterday around noon. The service and food definitely reminds me why I love this place so much. A 5-minute wait for a table, The El Paso Benedict, a Tequila and 2 Chevela shots makes Wen happy :) I shouldn't have been drinking again after a long night of drinking the previous night but I couldn't be a "pussy" as Mimi said. I also appreciated how they up-ed their birthday singing mariachi, now equipped with real drums, mini guitars, and mucho libre masks for patrons to wear. read more

Perfect way to start of your day! Bill's didn't disappoint at all :D This place is a partayyyy! It's super packed. There's about 3 locations in San Jose that's pretty close to each other and they were all packed with about a 40 minute wait each for Sunday brunch! I was a little hesitant to wait, mostly because I'm impatient but I'm so glad I did, the food was worth it. The place itself is not that big but they can pack a lot of people in. The servers were really friendly and for a restaurant so busy, they were pretty attentive. I don't think I ever had to ask for a refill for my water. They have a special birthday thing that they do, and it's pretty funny to watch, lucky for me I got to witness 4 of them! Food: 1. Crab Cake Egg Benedict: AHH IM IN LOVE. if i were to ever picture the perfect savory breakfast dish, this might be it. Delicious :D For 11 bucks you're getting awesome crab cakes with everything else. The portion for this pretty big. The egg and the sauce were sooo good, this dish is just amazing. 2. El Paso Egg Benedict: I loveee corned beef hash, and theirs was yummy! you could taste the seasoning, which made the hash all the more tastier! Their portion was generous and everything on the plate tasted great. 3. Mimosa: They use real fresh squeezed orange juice, you could taste it. On the verge of 5 stars for a breakfast diner. Came here thanks to fellow yelper reviews and it met expectations. The inside is clean and comfortable, a huge plus. It has an outdoor patio (albeit on a busy street) that caters to those who desire sunshine with their eggs. I had the California Benedict (bacon, tomato, avocado, and perfect poached eggs on English muffins with hollandaise sauce). My daughter had their chocolate chip muffin, warm and big and melty delicious. The thing that struck me the most about this place, at least on this early Saturday morning, was that all the workers were happy. Everyone from the guests to the busboys seemed glad to be there.
