We found this place in a Google search and decided to give it a try. One this right off the start is there is no parking even close to the restaurant. Place is clean, looks like it has seen better day though. Service was excellent, no problems there at all. Our server was very attentive and polite. Food Menu is not too large, a lot of items to choose from. We had a half order of the onion rings, they were good and had three dipping sauces. Same as a tower that would get at the chains. Girlfriend ordered the Rotisserie Chicken, she said it was very good. I ordered the Scruntious Chispy Chicken, it was good, but nothing spectacular. Meeting friends in the Hollywood area and needed a place with vegetarian options and outdoor seating that would honor a reservation. Birds met all our requirements. The outdoor seating is less than romantic - a table for 6 on the outside of the restaurant partially blocking the sidewalk. It turned out well. A small amount of foot traffic that turned out to be fairly friendly. And the road traffic wasn't bothersome. Kat, our server, was very friendly and very helpful. My wife and I shared the Cuban panini sandwich ($15) and the ahi tuna burger ($16.50). The panini was excellent. The tuna burger was OK. Each came with a side. We got waffle fries and curly fries. Waffle fries were terrific. The curly fries-not so much. Our friends got an order of onion rings. Those were beautifully presented and tasted great. Birds turned out to be exactly what we wanted. This neighborhood bar-restaurant serves a few labeled vegan items: a bean salad, a homemade BBQ veggie burger and the Impossible burger. We got the bean salad ($5.50) but I didn't care for it, due to the taste of the balsamic vinegar sauce. I'm not a fan of barbecue sauce, so I skipped the veggie burger (otherwise, I would have loved to have tried it). Instead I got the Impossible burger ($15) and it's perfectly fine, but nothing amazing. What makes it better here is the bun, a foccacia bread that has nice heft and flavor. It's not a cheap white-flour bun. In the future I might skip out on the caramelized onions, which imparted too much sweetness. Come to Birds if you're looking for a quick meal in an unpretentious bar. That's a rare thing in Hollywood these days. read more

Great option for happy hour!!! This place sits on Franklin, which can get pretty busy (traffic) during happy hour. So plan accordingly haha Lots of drink options for Happy Hour from $4-$6. No happy hour specials for food, but there are plenty of menu options to choose from with a good price range. I'd say go with the super loaded nachos add rotisserie chicken for a total of $11 or for $6 try the fried pickles. YUM. The chicken is good. This place is called Birds, so it better be. Solid spot, cute neighborhood. The drinks were strong and mighty. BF got the Kentucky mule, I got a Tito's Moscow mule both nice and strong. Also tried the peach tea but waiter recommended with bourbon. I approved! The Cajun shrimp was my fave dish, nice and crispy and the seasoning is great. The Mac & coleslaw get a pass from me but it's pretty good (not like a soul food spot ya know) the rotisserie chicken had nice flavor. I have been a patron of this establishment for 15 years plus. The food is decent on almost all accounts. Unfortunately someone made a huge mistake and blended an extremely hard white plastic item into my vanilla shake and then topped it with whipped cream so it was not visible to the naked eye until I started to consume the milkshake I sucked up some of the smaller, sharp pieces of plastic that would fit through the straw into my stomach. Unfortunately. I've videotaped the unfortunate incident and have contacted the place and they have done nothing for me. Not a check in to see if my intestines are all Intact and claimed they tried to pay for it through Uber but failed. Uber credited me for the 10 plus dollar shake but that is it. So far my guys are all Intact saying that I am Sad to see all Of the chicken Bones being found in the pot pies and that would concern me if I ran this place. Someone is sabotaging food in the kitchen it seems. I will never spend another dime in this place after all Of those years. This cafe is conveniently close to the Hollywood hills hiking trails. I came by purely based on the good reviews on Yelp and the pictures of the chicken looked so good. Luckily, when we arrive it was happy hour. We ordered a few drinks and an appetizer. The beers were good and they came out quickly. The food is another story. I had the 1/4 chicken white meat plate. It wasn't great. Actually it was very dry. There wasn't even enough dipping sauce to help this poor bird taste better. I figure if your signature dish is going to be chicken, then it should be great. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Also, it costs $10. Sorry but if Any place charges that much the least they can do is make sure the "Bird" doesn't dry out. This place is like Boston Chicken on steroids. Birds of the first chicken restaraunt of its kind that I had ever been to, back in 1998. It is located on a geat little strip across from the Scientology Celebrity Center, on a block filled with sidewalk cafes, shops and a theater. The food is really good, mostly chicken of various kinds but one can also purchase other things including vegetarian dishes. The drinks are plentiful and it it a great place to meet and dine with with friends. SOmetimes there is a wait though. Don't miss the spinach. read more

I came here after performing in a show at the UCB Theatre next door, so I was kind of high on life, at that point. Having filled up on a smoothie at the juice place a few doors down before the show, I wasn't really hungry, but my buddy & fellow performer offered me his half of a BLT sandwich with a side of mac-n-cheese, and I have to say...It was just what I expected. I'm sorry but American comfort food just doesn't excite me as much as other foods. It was okay, though. Not bad. And the mac-n-cheese was superb. The rotisserie chicken is what these guys are really known for, though, and to be honest, it does look downright delectable. The real reason to come here, though, are the drinks. The first page of their menu is packed with regular beers & other types of alcohol, as well as unique creations of their own. My eyes were immediately drawn to the part of the menu that said 'Espresso Martini.' I mean, it's caffeinated booze! What's not to love about that?! I loved it so much, in fact, that I ended up ordering two. Thank God, my friend shared his lunch with me. That drink can hit you hard after several minutes if you're not much of a drinker, so be forewarned. The vibe is pretty chill and the staff can be friendly, if they feel like it, but the prices are a little up there. Drinks are, of course, always pricey, but I really don't think one should have to pay $12+ for something you could have made at home. Hence, the 3 stars. Their service and speed are five-stars, but their food quality is meh. Their chicken is quite bland. The onion soup is quite heavy. The grilled shrimp gave me food poisoning. The curly fries tasted like packaged food. Only slightly better than In-n-out fries. I hope they put more effort into their food quality. read more

The 2016 YELP 500, Review #127: WHY WAS I HERE: I came here, like so many of my reviews reflect, strictly because it was featured in the opening sequence of the 1996 Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau movie, Swingers. Noting that the movie sequence has not been wrong, each of those businesses has a unique atmosphere and none have been a let down. SERVER PRAISES: Although it was a comfortable evening, I opted to sit inside rather than curbside. The server was Lauren and what a great job she did. I like it when a waitress can tell me what the most popular dishes are and answer other questions about the menu and the business. This is Lauren. I love, love, love non-intrusive wait staff. This too... yeah you guessed it, is Lauren. There are bad waiters/waitresses in this town... You know the ones we have all had and shook our heads at just trying to figure them out. Well, I can't speak for every employee but, from my experience you won't find that here. If that doesn't paint a "must return" canvas, I don't know what will. WAITING ON FOOD: OK, I do have one issue with this place. Being that I am a man that enjoys a good illusionist, I will say that I have no idea how they were able to take my order and have my food out so fast. This is a compliment to the elbows that are steadily moving back where the kettles are hot and the 30-second shot clock ticks loudly. There are some amazing people back there, obviously. FOOD ITSELF: Everything I ordered was great. Homemade nachos, Caesar salad, 1/4 (white) chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, Tennessee BBQ baked beans (vegetarian), chicken chili... I was all smiles at every bite. Even my ginger ale came out with a lime wedge (I didn't request it but, that really makes the ginger ale... It is almost like they knew me)! I found parking around the corner ... a short walk of perhaps a half of a block (this was on Sunday, April 17, 2016, just after dusk). After 3.5 months vacationing in L.A. I realize that even a hot dog cart will have valet. I don't even get this. I love this neighborhood and even if I didn't have feet I would want to drink in the atmosphere that one experiences walking to and from ones own vehicle. I'm just not a huge fan of the food here. It's nothing personal. The staff is very friendly and the place comes alive at night. The food just underwhelms me. Whenever I get the chicken it kind of taste like....rotisserie chicken you would get at the grocery store from the hot case. It's slightly dry and you really gotta combo each bite with whatever side you got. This time I got the BLT with avocado. It was very messy. Messier then you can really deal with if you plan on getting all the flavors into your mouth with each bite. Half the sandwich would slide out the back while I was eating. The shrimp skewers I got were ok. It wasn't exactly real shrimp and they were very tiny. Think those shrimp you get in a white sauce on top of pasta at Outback Steakhouse or something. Very frozen-to-hot vibes going on. All in all it's a solid 3 Stars. Edible and will fill you up, just not something I would recommend in the highly competitive food scape of LA. read more

I had the bbq baked beans, and instantly I knew these were from a can. They have the nerve to charge $6.75 for a serving of these on the side. A can of beans not cost that much. I called the place and the person who answered tried to swerve from the question I was asking, which was are these from a can, she finally admitted it, and that is all she needed to do. I have seen other post that that think some of this food is not prepared on site. Also, they messed up the order and refused to take responsibility for it, and they were quite rude about it. The chicken was okay? Just not impressed with any of what I got from them, especially beans from a can. Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Worse than that, what you're also not gonna do is throw another piece of burnt chicken at me when all I asked you to do was give me a cooked piece of chicken. It's not like you're paying for it, right?
