The only minor downside (besides the long line) was the seating. While it was a Friday at 7 p.m., I felt like others could easily hear my conversation. The food is priced reasonably in the $$ range, and many people were picking up to-go plates, which means they are worth the drive. I'm choosing to give them a 5 because it doesn't deserve a 4. Such amazing food there was a line as soon as we got there so we knew the food was going to be great. The chicken and dumplings was sold out by 6pm so that was a bummer. We were in the area and decided to stop in and try this spot. The line was pretty long when we got here, but it went by pretty quick. It's a meat and 3 so I just stood in line, and placed my order. I tried the Hattie B's medium spice for my fried chicken. I'm usually someone that doesn't have a very good tolerance level for spice, but I did pretty well on medium here. The heat level wasn't too bad for me. I felt that the fried chicken was perfectly fried. It wasn't too dry or anything. It wasn't bad. As for the sides, I liked the Mac n cheese. It was very well seasoned and not dry. I also liked the mashed potatoes n gravy. The carrots were my favorite side. It was very yummy. The carrots were honestly my favorite thing here. The sweet tea wasn't too sweet. For me, I prefer my sweet tea to be sweeter. The cornbread, was a little too dry for me. I felt that it was dry and flaky. In all, I did not have a bad experience. Bishop's Meat & 3 was a great experience today. I ordered ahead online for pickup for lunch, and was glad I did, as when I went to pickup my food at noon, they had a line out the door! (Which is always good to see) I went with a "meat and 2" plate: fried dark meat chicken, fried okra, and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. But let me take a minute to talk about that chicken. I've eaten a LOT of fried chicken this week while in the Nashville area at some places that claim to have the best--none compared to Bishop's. Hot, crispy breading, tender chicken, flavorful breading, and just the right amount of grease. GET THE CHICKEN. Obviously I'm not the first person to write a raving review here. Bishop's is home style southern food at its best. All the food tastes like it was made by someone's grandma who is the best cook at the local Baptist church. I usually come here for the hot chicken (if you order the damn hot you better be ready cause it really is gonna be damn hot). The fried chicken and catfish are also great. Now for the sides - you cannot go wrong with the sides. I've had them all, and they are all great. There is nothing fancy here. It is just traditional southern cooking done right. The restaurant is nice and clean but definitely has the local charm. The staff are friendly and the service is fast. If you're looking to eat local, this is some of the best food in Franklin. read more

Let me start by saying I will go back. But I will try something other than their hot chicken. Went for hot chicken week and had the special - a 'hot' leg qtr and 2 sides. I had Mac n cheese and green beans. All was ok. Quantity was good. Normal prices are good. Chicken was cooked nicely just not especially hot. It says Hattie B heat levels but they are a step down - at least that one was. Service was good, food came out quickly despite a very long line and packed house. I would pass on the corn bread next time - I love corn bread but theirs was just average. So if you're in the area - check it out. This was the best place that I visited while I was in Nashville recently. It's got friendly service, affordable prices, and delicious food. My family and I tried a variety of meat and three plates, and I tried Hattie B's famous hot chicken on my plate! (There are multiple heat levels, and I was glad I started low.) The carrot soufflé was another interesting dish I hadn't seen anywhere else, and it was worth trying. The family and I ordered two of the desserts, banana pudding and pecan pie. Those were good but not as great as the banana pudding dessert we had at a BBQ place on the other side of town. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great and sometimes the rolls are burnt and the meal doesn't come with the condiments ordered. They almost never answer their phone so you need to order Togo on the website. Tried calling to mention the status of the rolls so they could talk to the kitchen about ensuring quality. I'll be back but I'll double check my order next time. Update: Ordered Togo again and this time it came without the ranch I ordered from the online order and the hot tenders look like they were mild or medium tenders that were retossed. We were in Franklin from Huntsville for the day and spotted this restaurant while shopping. Reviews were good, so we gave it a try. I can't tell you what a good experience we had. Food was excellent, served cafeteria style, and the eating area was plain but clean and orderly. I had stuffed bell pepper, squash casserole and Lima beans which were all tasty and hot. My husband, who has eaten spicy Indian food in INDIA, said the medium hot fried chicken burned him but good. He also enjoyed his vegetables. It's hard to find a meat and three restaurant anymore. I think the owners were working that day, and they were super polite and sincerely appreciative of our patronage. We'll be back when we visit Franklin again. read more

I almost didn't want to post a review, as some of us don't want to share the secret. But pppsssstttt....this is Hattie B's hot chicken. It predated Hattie's, from what I understand, and was so good they started the now famous Hattie chain based on this chicken. The sides, particuarly the Mac n Cheese are incredible. My only somewhat negative remark is that their cornbread is hit and miss, sometimes pretty good, but often dry and tasteless. But with chicken like this, inconsistent cornbread is not enough to knock off a star. This is a constant go to for us Franklin, and a place we HAVE to take any guests who come into town. read more

Bishop's is a face value restaurant. It's a real throwback for anyone who grew up with that authentically Southern supper at grandma's house. The menu is written on a board and you get to choose how many sides you want. They serve it cafeteria style where you just boop down the line and list off what you want. Fried Chicken Mac n Cheese Mashed Potatoes Jalapeño Cornbread SO GOOD. One of those meals where you do covert glances to make sure no one watches while you poke the fried chicken crumbs with your finger and deposit them into your facehole. It was a really wholesome meal and the servers were so nice. The portions were heaping and the atmosphere was very Mama's Kitchen-esque. Very reminiscent of my childhood/Southern roots; transported me back in time when I'd never even heard of a quinoa or chia seed. Cafeteria style setup, grab a tray and pick your food. I grabbed the medium fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread. Hubby had regular fried chicken with mash and Mac and cheese. The biggest difference I saw between our chicken (besides mine being spicy of course) is that his skin/batter was crispy and mine wasnt which was a let down. As far as the chicken, honestly Publix executes it better. And although this is where Hattie B's chicken originated, I would wait in line for their chicken over coming here any day.
