Okay. There was nothing. Nothing. "Nothing" that I didn't like about this place. The house of elegance. Not posh. Low key. Subdued elements that help you to recline and relax. Inside candlelight bounces off polished high grade wood. Outside the yard is wrapped in vine, which blends with the cobblestone. Serenity. The service was awesome. Friendly even. The drinks came promptly, and while they came periodically to check in, we weren't rushed at all. That's a plus. As a matter of fact, we stayed and talked long after the check was paid. The duck confit risotto was a complex creamy masterpiece. You want to share the experience with everyone at the table. You want to walk down the street offering forkfuls to complete strangers. A dance of cream, stripped duck [duck has never been so sexy], and spices that excite but never overpower. Then you try the dish your companion has ordered. This night it was the swordfish. It must have been marinated in a sweet citrus sauce long enough for the flavor to marry itself to the meat. Of course you will only get one begrudged sample. Love Northport Village. I was taken here by my Fiance for my birthday dinner. We went on a Thursday night in the bitter cold. Not many people there at all at 6pm. The ambiance was lovely. We had the clams, the coffee strip steak, the rib eye with garlic mashed and battered asparagus finished it off with the choc cigar and chipwitch desserts. All amazing. We went in for lunch today. 4 people in our party. We asked the hostess for a booth. She was very dismissive to our request and said that the booths are only for large parties. Understood. We had to sit there and watch them sit other parties of 3 and 4 in those booths. Rude!!! Several things were missing from the menu. Northport Village has been my new destination lately and one of my stops was here. It was a little smaller than I thought it'd be but as long as there's room at the bar then I'm ok :) The bartender was friendly and when I asked to put on the Ranger game he was cool enough to give me the remote so I could find the game. My ex girlfriend would never have given up the remote but that's a different review. Anyway the shrimp cocktail was ample in size but a bit warm which gave it a weird flavor. My dinner was the short rib which was enormous and fell off the bone. It had some fat to cut around but that's why they give you a knife. I never met mashed potatoes that I didn't like and you can add their mashed to this list. As with other large meals I was too stuffed to have dessert. Overall, too expensive for me to come regularly but was a very good meal. read more

Wow, what a fantastic little gem. First of all, the street that this restaurant is located on is gorgeous enough. All of the shops are unique and provide plenty of time to peruse and find nostalgic items (candy from your childhood? fun toys...). There's plenty going on in this area and then the there is a stunning harbor with sailboats at the end of the block. Needless to say, great area. But on to the restaurant.The inside is dark wood and feels fancy, but the outdoor patio is pretty and surrounded by ivy. Great spot to have a casual lunch or dinner. If it's a little bit chilly, they have plenty of outdoor heating. The outdoor spot is a little cramped, but in some ways it's also very charming and feels intimate. Definitely a great date spot or place to meet with your best friend and enjoy wine and secrets. I would call this place intimate, classy and casual. So the food: Bread Basket: The bread is a rustic roll and comes with three condiments: olive tapenade, roasted garlic in olive oil or butter. Very good. The only thing is that you can't ask for more....they won't give it to you even if they say yes. Appetizers: We had the Thai Fried Calamari special which was OUTSTANDING. There were bits of plantain, pineapples and mangos mixed in with a sweet chile sauce, yet the sauce wasn't overpowering and the calamari was cooked to perfection. 2 people can share or 4 people if you are getting another app. Then we had the arugula and beet salad - also, very good. The cheese did not overpower the dish and the beets and arugula were fresh. Perfect light salad. The portion is very generous so again, 2 - 4 people can share. Entree: Lobster over spinach ravioli. AMAZING. I'm not a pasta fan, nor am I usually a fan of cream sauce but my boyfriend wanted to share and we settled on this entree. The ravioli itself was soft and pillowy under a mild but rich cream sauce. The shocker was the amount of claw lobster meat that we go. We split the dish and they put it into two plates, but it was plentiful with lobster meat. Really delicious and satisfying. We wanted to try one of the surrounding ice cream shops, so we skipped the dessert but I can only imagine based on the first two entrees that it would have been great. Service: The service was pretty good at our table. The waitress and the other staff seemed on top of their game (but I like my service a little slow). I could see that other tables were not happy with how quickly they were being served, but we got top notch service and we were nice to the staff. So I'll just say that a smile goes a long way with this staff. For the surrounding area, the inside and outside and the delicious level of food, I will definitely be back to this spot. I didn't expect something so great, but sometimes walking in with lower expectations will get you a true reading. My boyfriend and I came to Northport for the day and decided to have lunch here. We looked up the reviews on Yelp and it seemed pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised how nice the outdoor seating was. It's pretty spacious. The staff was very attentive and kind to us. Our food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The drinks were delish! They have an open bar and can pretty much make anything. The food was tasty as well. It was a nice relaxing time. The only problem was the parking. Best restaurant in Northport! The pre-fixe menu is a great bargain at $32.00! Great selection and quality is always consistent. If you like steak, the marinated grilled skirt steak has great flavor and is cooked perfectly. The chicken milanese is served over a nice bed of greens with crispy fried chicken cutlets. A neighborhood favorite for me, starts wth that warm welcome from Kevin. No matter what time of year the food is consistently good here. The sesame crusted Tuna is excellent! Sushi grade, rare tuna melts in mouth. The short ribs are also very good, but not as tasty as the Tuna in my opinion. If you like soft, stringy fall off the bone meat then I guess you'd like the short rib, but I prefer their skirt steak, well marinated served with garlic mash. The wine list is decent, our waitress super nice and attentive yet again. If there was one thing I could suggest: improve the bread options that come to the table. We were looking for a local place with a nice steak on the menu for our daughter, seafood for our son, and something a little different for the two of us. Our daughter got the marinated skirt steak with garlic mashed potatoes and haricot verts - prepared well and served with a nice parsley oil drizzle. Our son got the Alaskan king crab - very good with a nice presentation. I got a duck confit rissoto that was to die for. Unctuous with great depth of flavor. Too heavy to finish it all, but awesome nonetheless. My wife got an ancho chile and brown sugar rubbed ribeye that was so tasty that I had to fight her for a bite. The dessert menu looked good but we had no hopes of being able to eat more at that point. Service was very good and the wine selections were decent. The ombiance at this place is nice. Back patio is cozy and warm with the fire. I got a glass of chardonnay that tasted pungent and dry. I also had the grilled shrimp app which was neither bbq'ed or grilled on a bed of peppers and pinapple. This could have been so good had it not been watery and in some kind of sugary sauce (simple syrup)? If all the ingredients were blackened and spiced a little, the dish would have been amazing. I also had garlic mashed potatoes, they were the best thing I ate, besides my friends french fries (rustic and smokey). She said the salmon and beets was just ok. The bread basket was A+, came with 3 small sides, tapas style with tapanade, roasted garlic cloves and a sweet butter smear. Crabcake looks like nothing special (poor presentation) but amazing taste and the guacamole that came with was a nice change. The lobster risotto was closer to rice because it seemed light and there was plenty of lobster. The Chicken Milanese was also a hit. Presented sliced and atop the salad. We sat at the bar and they had a nice selection of bottled beer - really touched upon everyone's tastes. The bartender was very nice. I grew up in Northport and when I visit with my wife and 3 children I'm always looking to see what's new on Main Street. Bistro 44 seemed like a good option for us for dinner. The interior was empty but the back courtyard next to the thomas building is really nice. We got just the Cioppino and a salad. Both were pretty good, if not great. Prices not too bad and a nice beer selection. For Northport Village, which usually has pretty bad food, this was a nice find. read more

My friend and I were celebrating my birthday, we love coming to bistro for the desserts and always enjoy ourselves when we do, but this time we were stopped at the door.... not greeted no invitation to enter the building but stopped. We asked if we could get dessert and were told we could sit at the bar since tables were for dining. The restaurant was empty but for 2 tables and servers rolling silverware at the bar we were offered to sit at, we asked again and said that it was Tuesday and do you really expect to fill up? again we were told tables are for dining you can come back late night and have dessert, (we weren't coming back in two hours}. We picked another establishment that happily sat us and tipped generously after our desserts. Now I don't really like to bash, I try to give positive reviews but I had to post this one since I feel the manager was being condescending. I am also a GM at a nearby establishment and have been in the restaurant industry for 41 years, that said I would have enjoyed my cheesecake that I normally get at Bistro and would have finished and paid my check if I saw the restaurant was filling up and relinquished the table to other diners. My family and I come here once a year for their prix fix pre-show menu that they run in conjunction with the theater down the road. The price fixed menu includes select appetizers an entrée and a dessert. We are a big crowd when we come in the restaurant is fairly small but they always manage to accommodate us with the reservation placed in advance. I don't think the menu has changed much in the last three years that we have been dining here but that's not to say that the food is bad but it would be nice to see a few more options on the menu. The only thing that is a bit disappointing every time is the lack of beer selection. Especially with a full bar one beer on tap or a larger bottled selection of beers would be a nice addition to this restaurant and make it a nice spot to grab a few drinks before the show. Service here is always excellent The restaurant interior is smog yet elegant. This is a great date spot for dinner and an even better location to grab some food before the show. read more

Traumatic experience. My friend and I booked a reservation for 4pm. The restaurant was fairly empty. We had not one person, even though there was a gray haired gentleman with glasses walking by periodically, acknowledge our presence. At around 4:30 I said, "Excuse me, can we order a drink". Presumably, he then notified our waiter that we were in the dining room. Our waiter came promptly, took our drink order and told us the specials. We ordered soon after and the food was good; snapper with shrimp and a lemon caper sauce. We then ordered after dinner cappuccinos and split a very good chocolate cake whereupon the busboy came to our table at approximately 6:30 and informed us that he was clearing our table because "others needed it and you have been here 3 hours". NOBODY was there at 4pm and we waited for our food and desert for quite awhile. I also ordered a to-go burger. When I explained that we were waiting a long time he was so rude that I couldn't believe it. He then apparently told the super busy and very nice waiter that we complained about him. Our waiter was in tears. I have to say that I have been coming to this restaurant for 15 years. Also, our bill was $230.00. This busboy was so out of bounds that we were shaken. read more

We have been to this Restaurant several times and always find it to be pretty good. I had a Salad with Salmon on top. It was very fair, we had a nice waitress who served us a drink and left us menu's, later a waiter showed up in a hurry at 2:30 PM, I wasn't on my lunch hour, he took the order 1-2-4 didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, I flagged him down and let him know, and it did come out that way, he rushed us into dessert, never did anything else and the waitress gave us the check as I requested. Over all it was fine, this was just an untrained waiter or an uncaring waiter, the kind that treats you like you are eating with him at his home. I will go back and try to steer away from this waiter as the place is nice and the people are very friendly. read more

I have to say that I was very impressed with the food and service. Its a small intimate restaurant with a great outdoor patio in the rear. Its not cheap but the food is spectacular and youre in Northport Harbor. Think date night for a couple. Appetizers of baked clams was among the best versions I've had. Fried mozzarella took a simple, often poorly done item to another level. Forget the standard fried mozzarella that you are used to. This is outstanding. Bistro 44 burger was fantastic. Crab and lobster risotto was another dish that was done perfectly. Terrific place for a couple to have a nice meal with a great setting and fantastic food. read more

We went to this place when we went up to Northport on our boat on Sunday, July 9th as we heard the food was good. The food was fine (the chicken avocado sandwich is especially good, i recommend that) However, I give it only 2 stars because we had an issue with the servers. One of us ordered a plate of clams, but the teenaged waiter clumsily spilled the hot and oil laden clam sauce all over my dad's leg. The waiters only response was (imagine it in a dumb teenager voice) "Sorry, can I get you another plate of clams?" Later, another waiter tried to make up for the clam sauce spilled on dress shorts by comping the clams and a plate of fries, which didn't really make up for it. 2/5 would not recommend, good for food, terrible service. read more

As someone who enjoy fine dining i was extremely disappointed in the food. As an appetizer We ordered calamari.. it was deep fried frozen calamari with an overly sweet chili sauce. For our entrees we ordered ahi tuna (32$). The presentation was lackluster and the tuna itself was bland. We also got the Kobe beef burger(22$). The burger was cooked well done when i asked for medium rare, the bacon was either old or baked in an oven for way too long i finished half of the burger it was not good. The bill came out to 100$ with two drinks (ordered rye neat and the waitress gave it to me on the rocks... all in all i wouldn't go back or recommend bistro 44 to anyone, you are better off going to Applebee's it's the same quality food and way cheaper. This place is small, but the quality is fantastic and right on Main Street in northport village, right next to the water. We just happened to walk by and were interested in the menu posted. We walked in and asked for a table, but the restaurant was full and it was a 40 minute wait. We left and took a few steps over to look for another restaurant because we were starving, and the hostess actually came out and found us to let us know that a table had just freed up! We sat in a lovely booth near the restrooms. Everything on the menu sounds and looks delicious- we started with a buffalo mozzarella salad (it was a special) and I got the lobster/spinach ravioli. Wowowow. We finished the meal with a salted caramel tartufo (on the dessert menu it was a different flavor, but that's what they had available) and I couldn't have left happier.
