A five star experience through and through. We came on a Tuesday night and every member of the staff was polite and wonderful. The salads were great starters and then the entrees came. My partner got their beef weck "fancy" and it tasted as magical as filet mignon. I decided to get the Seafood Thermidor and I felt like I questioned all seafood choices I ever made before. This chef knows seafood at a level most Cleveland chefs can only dream of achieving. The cream sauce was out of this world and blew my mind on multiple levels. Our waitress recommended we have the Brown Butter Cake for dessert. After one bite I knew I was in love. If a cake could give you a hug, this would be it. This. Was. Amazing. I leave feeling thoroughly satisfied and wishing I had three more stomachs so I could just keep on enjoying the magic coming from this place. Most may find it fine....I found it lacking. The food was a great attempt at something that wanted to be farm to table -- but it seems like a close knock off. Not terribly seasoned and not terribly inventive. Clearly they are trying very hard and want to serve the community, and perhaps it was just an off night. This place is awesome. I have had dinner here a few times and each time I have been blown away. The food is incredible, the decor is great and the service has always been more than solid. Very good salads, pastas, and meat dishes! Quaint and swanky, especially for Painesville.

Took my God son there for his 24th birthday. What a wonderful meal. Started with a nice glass of wine and a bloody mary wedge salads to follow with bread and dipping oil with shredded asaiagio . He had the special veal picatta with feta cheese and kalamata olives. I enjoyed the flank steak with a blue cheese butter and we both had the roasted red pepper risotto. We wrapped it up with a trio of cake pops and a birthday candle. The only thing missing were more diners to enjoy the surprise hidden in the middle of Painesville City. It is a quick 25 minute drive from Cleveland or the east burbs. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating and the owner stopped by our table to chat and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Price point was very good and left with smiles on our faces. read more

I have always had really great food here, but the other night I had the pan seared sea bass with a thai-coconut sauce. It was nothing short of amazing. They were also really wonderful about accommodating my vegan dining companion. The blueberry mojito was delicious. Every time I have been there, the chef/owner has stopped by to say hello and check on us. This is what going out to eat is all about. Great service and wonderful food. read more

Make that 4.5 stars. I hosted a rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding at Bistro 70 last week. It was a great experience, both the preparation and the party. The loft room was a nice size for 31 people, and the food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. We had one Gluten Free guest, and some pescetarians. Keith, the chef/owner, was very accommodating, both in planning the menu and in identifying the GF items on the buffet and appetizers and in serving the GF guest with a single GF plate. The planning process was very easy, and the price was reasonable. I asked for a number of adjustments to avoid serving similar items to the wedding menu. We had a seafood pasta and glazed pork tenderloin that were both terrific. Whipped potatoes and a fall veggie mix were also excellent. We had an open bar, but the servers took orders and delivered the drinks, which was very nice, and I think moderated the pace of the drinking over having a dedicated bartender upstairs with us. You don't want people to drink too much at the rehearsal dinner! I think having Appetizers passed by the servers helped insure that everyone got to taste them all and encouraged conversation groups away from the buffet. The cheese tray was on the buffet table and was generous, allowing those who were more hungry an option too. I had never eaten at Bistro 70 before the party, so was a bit nervous about organizing such a big event from a distance, but I got a great review from a cousin of the bride. Between that and a good working relationship with the chef, I decided to go with Bistro 70. I am very happy that I did as the party was exactly what I wanted, and went very smoothly. read more

I hate to admit it, but we are picky restaurant people. We used to be in the business and it's rare that we love most everything about an experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight. From Karen's attention to detail and the right timing on everything, to the perfectly cooked steak (all three) and the most delicious vegetable medley/ratatouille we've ever had. And the desert! Chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and a mint flower on top. Amazing. We look forward to coming back and kudos to the chef/owner and the team. We can tell you love what you do. read more

This is not a rant. However, it is a very unique compliment and a great disappointment. I hope it helps Keith improve his establishment. Hats off to Keith for a very fine idea in the heart of Painesville. I have represented many restaurants over the years and I can accurately judge what will succeed and what will fail. If Keith does not refocus on his business, it will fail as Bistro 70 is on a collision course right now. I have spent a lot of time at Bistro 70, so I speak from much experience. A restaurant succeeds by being consistent in its opening and closing times, menu and other aspects. First, the restaurant claims to open at 4. It is rare the doors are unlocked at that time. I once waited until after 5 and finally called in and the hostess unlocked the front door. So much for the 4 to 5 happy hour. And, speaking of the hostess, she is the first one you see when walking into this magnificently styled restaurant. However, her greeting is such that if she is paying attention to the door and does greet you, you feel as if she is doing you a favor. Who is she related to and why is she working there? I have only seen her smile once. A hostess should always be attentive to the door and work the room insuring all customers at the bar and tables are happy with their food and service. She fails miserably in this respect. The décor is beautiful, but Keith needs to take down the half wall at the bar and place hi-top tables in that area. It WILL draw more business and this is an established fact at other restaurants including upscale ones. People at hi-tops feel they are a part of the actual bar. If you are a regular, you certainly realize the hi-tops would bring more business. But, Keith's response is he needs more dining area. Then seat people in the banquet room where people can have more privacy! People want intimacy when dining in such an establishment. Instead, the banquet room is a storage area. Common sense does not prevail in this respect. The food is great and very much consistent in its quality. The wedge salad, which I have them cut up, has an amazing flavor. Keith is very much on top of things as far as the menu. The wine selection falls flat on its face. Keith and I know Brian who can easily evaluate Keith's wines. I have asked for certain wines to be ordered and Keith ignored repeated requests from me and others. However, to continue with the incredible food, Keith made a point of telling me that he would only serve his sushi on Thursdays as he bought everything fresh. He REFUSED to serve it on any other night. Ok, great. So, once every fifteen weeks when I have a Thursday night off, I wander in for the Sushi. It is a consistent Thursday night menu item. RIGHT! WRONG?! As I said, consistency will make or break a business. They already have a problem unlocking doors. So, I wandered in while Taste of Painesville was in session down the block. I DRIVE 60 MILES ONE WAY FOR Keith's sushi. I texted a large group to come have this delicacy. Everyone is on their way. The bartender reads me the three selections and I begin by ordering all three. As the group arrives, they will want to taste this wonderful dish. We take turns ordering more as the evening moves on. SURPRISE! The cook who rolls the sushi is at Taste of Painesville, so NO sushi. Everyone texted and all rendezvous at another restaurant. Good job Keith. Glad I drove the distance. And, speaking of the bartenders, another surprise and WARNING to all regulars whom I know and those I do not. As I said, I have been around restaurants in one capacity or another for many years. I know every way bartenders steal. A friend bought two of us a drink. Not only did they charge my friend for those drinks, they charged us for the two drinks. Oh, certainly a mistake....and then insulted me by saying I ordered them. They credited me one drink. There should have been no discussion about the charge. They scammed me for one drink and their tip reflected it. And Keith, why is there such a rotation of bartenders? Again, no consistency. CHECK YOUR BILLS! One side note..."Progressive Happy Hour"...REALLY? Keith is a very intense person. He is a hands on person. He is now focused on his catering business and this is what he should do if it is profitable, but close the restaurant if catering is your main goal. I am done with Keith and Bistro 70. If Keith every redeems himself, I will certainly update this comment and let you know. But, my guess is that Keith will be very angry with this review and will not call and make amends. And, this is okay. My only question, "Is it the type of establishment you would take a chance on or like to frequent?" See you back at Chester's when it reopens. read more

Although pricey, the food was well worth it! Got the lamb lollipops and ahi tuna for apps, which were both yummy. Ordered the veal parmesan as an entree and it was pretty good. What really made this dining experience exceptional was the wait staff. They were really friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating! I also really enjoyed the cleanliness and modern decor. read more

Tonight was our first time trying Bistro 70. They advertise an intriguing "Prix Fixe" for 19.99. The Prix Fixe consisted of 3 courses; soup or salad option, entree and dessert option. We thought this would be the perfect way to experience their menu for the first time. The warm bread and olive oil were fantastic. Our first course: house salad with balsamic dressing and French onion soup. The salad and dressing was very nice and the soup flavor was wonderful but the soup wasn't very hot. Second course: beef stroganoff and fried chicken. Both dishes seemed like they had been sitting for a bit. The pasta sauce was room temp and slightly congealed. The fried chicken was soggy and lacked seasoning. Dessert course: chocolate chip cookie and cinnamon roll. Both were fine, not really impressive but were dressed up with a pretty plate presentation. The service was spotty with the most notable part being when he asked us if our meals were worth the $20 dollars. Seemed a bit odd of a question. All in all it was adequate but we didn't feel that the meal represented what the establishment is capable of. read more
