Being a local for three years now I understand why I've never come here. 430pm on a Saturday with no one inside, outside, or waiting. Me, my girl and our 25lb pup walked from home to enjoy our first meal here! We were greeted by a kind waitress who asked us where we wanted to sit. We chose a four top because - we normally order a ton of food and their two tops are extremely small. We chose the one closest to the door so we could have close access to the restroom as well as our pup would be on the left side and be out of the way. The kind waitress mentioned there are two doors on either side of us for service , so i agreed, and I chose the next four top adjacent to the first table we chose. Just as I was sitting down the manager came out. He said we need to choose a two top table farther away due to being only two people and having a pup. I really wanted to support our local spots and try something new and enjoy a quiet Saturday late afternoon. We should all be trying to work together in these times. Our pup spent three hours at Oheka INSIDE yesterday, where the bartender, manager, and owner remarked on how well behaved and calm he was. I feel perplexed that the ego of the manager prevented him from serving a couple stopping by during a lull, wanting to try something new. We ended up dining down the street at Bueno Aires to have a few bites and were welcomed with open arms by the manager and ended up spending $150. read more

Enjoyed an early dinner at Cassis. Arrived right around 6. Glad we did because by 6:30 there was a crowd at the front door waiting for a table. They don't take reservations. The French onion soup was excellent (in the way that French onion soup is also often disappointing), my husband had the Brie and loved it. Entrees - my husband loved his pork chop. It started off with the bread, crunchy and delicious French baguette! For appetizers we had the muscles they were delicious. We also ordered the escargot which also was delicious. I was really looking forward to the duck in the raspberry sauce with the breast sliced, and the dark meat wrapped around the mashed potatoes with mushrooms, and for some reason, it wasn't the way I remembered it. The sauce was brownish didn't have enough fruity flavor to it. The duck was super fatty and and tough. My buddy got the Oso Buco he wasn't thrilled with that either, but it was good. Another had the card nothing to write home about and the last had the chicken again and fried breaded chicken cutlet. It was OK. Desserts were very, very good but pricey at $12 each all in all the service was great. Unpretentious, good ambiance for friends or a date night. I had the mussels with garlic and tomatoes, the Bordeaux wine, the duck and creme brûlée. The service is wonderful they keep your glasses full of water and serve warm bread with fresh butter and pâté. The mussels were piping hot , flavorful and left you wanting more. The duck was cooked medium rare, served with raspberries, asparagus and a side of mushrooms covered with a layer of creamy potato. My only complaint is that my entree wasn't as hot as i would have liked and my asparagus was overcooked but I finished the whole thing. My wife and I came here with a few friends. First off, if you aren't used to Huntington, parking is a challenge. We drove around a little since it was a Saturday and found a spot in the lot a few blocks away. We walked into a packed place, but it wasn't a long wait. The staff was fantastic. They were very attentive and friendly. Overall, it was very good service. For my meal, I had the salmon and lentils. The salmon was cooked wonderfully. I was definitely not disappointed by it. oh la la delicious!!! Just got home from Cassis, what a wonderful meal. Specifically went there on a Wed pm for the daily special, Cassoulet. OMG I was in hog heaven!!!! It was soooo good (see photo) filled with all kinds of porky goodness and cooked in duck confit, it doesnt get any better than that. I immediately smelled the smoky pork when it was brought to the table. The meat was just falling off the bone and there was a lot of it. I think it was a hamhock on the top with pieces of pork throughout the melt in your mouth beans. Then as you put your spoon & fork deeper into the pot, sausage, bacon and what looked like a boneless porkchop. It was so good, warm and hearty perfect for a winters dinner. Their drink menu had some fun martinis on it, I stuck to a nice merlot tonight and their beer menu had some nice options too. A close friend highly recommended this place as she has been dining here for years. We set up a lunch date and since I haven't dined in a French restaurant in some time I agreed to come. They do not have a parking lot but there was plenty of street parking available. I arrived early so I sat at the bar as I waited for her to arrive. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc which was nicely chilled and was really great. It is fairly priced at $11 dollars. Once my friend arrived we moved over to their dining area. Upon seating they served us bread. The bread was warm and delicious! Andre was our server and he came right over. He was amazing! I appreciate good service. I ordered their French onion soup. Wow amazing! Piping hot topped with gruyere cheese! It is quite filling. She ordered an onion tart which was accompanied with a small side salad. I didn't taste it but she said it was fantastic. They have four types of mussels. I originally wanted one with cream sauce, they have an anise cream and brandy cream mussels. I couldn't decide. She's tried them all and said they are all really great. She recommended their Spanish red broth style mussels which comes with chorizo. I love chorizo so I agreed. WOW! It was sooooooooo good! Based on reviews we ordered a demi size instead of their large portion. I am glad I did! The demi size had more than enough! I would suggest if you come with a party of 3 get the demi size. I think this was the best mussels I've ever had!!! The broth,tomato and chorizo worked so well together. It was seasoned so well. We wanted the broth in to go cups to sip on the drive home haha! We soaked up the delicious broth with their amazing bread. We were so full! It was a shame as I wanted to try other items or at least order their creme brûlée. I was unfortunately too full! Cassis was kind enough to accommodate our party of 8 one night before and for Saturday night, none-the-less. Impressive! The inside of Cassis was just as expected, quaint, like many of the Parisian bistros I frequented just months before. Some of us promptly arrived for our 5:30 reservations, others did not. They still seated us. Seating was cramped but that was to be expected. We were served warm baguettes, butter, and a liver tapenade of sorts. I ordered from the Huntington Restaurant Week menu: Escargot in garlic herb butter-I was desperately hoping the soup du jour was French onion soup but alas, it was not. The garlic herb butter that the escargot swam in was delicious, but the escargot itself was lacking meatiness. Chicken Alsacienne (Pan roasted chicken, homemade spaetzle, wilted spinach, bacon cream sauce)-I'm not a big chicken fan but this one was very tender and the cream sauce was delectable. Crème Brulee-enough said. Overall a good meal but felt it would have been better if we came on a weeknight and with less people. I would absolutely give them another try. read more

We asked for more mixer in the Bloody Mary because it was ridiculously strong, and were told they ran out of Bloody Marys, only to see the table next to us get one 5 minutes later. Not one to complain about a strong drink, but it was way too strong. Maybe offer something else? The waiter wasn't quite rude, but was definitely brusque. The plates and my wine glass were cleared as soon as they were emptied in a hurtied manor. There was a walk by question consiisting of "Dessert?" Drinks are nicely balanced. Mussels were delicious. Steak perfectly cooked. However, my scallops weren't the freshest and some of the prawns were overcooked. Pieces of the bread crust was too hard to chew. For the price, I would not only expect everything to be well thought out, but also to be well executed. Ambience is very nice, partially ruined by a rowdy table, but that is not on the restaurant. Overall, I would try it again if I'm in the mood for some French cuisine. read more

Lovely spot for brunch in Huntington Village. I've now been here twice, and both times being for lunch/brunch. I had the sandwich aux legumes. I mean, mon amour, doesn't everything sound better en françias?! This sammy comes stacked with grilled eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, roasted peppers, and pesto aioli on brioche. With, obviously, les pommes frittes. Can't have a French meal without le French Fry, amiright? My only complaint about my sandwich is that the bottom bread got a bit soggy with the aioli while the top was perfectly toasted. And no one wants a half soggy sammy. But - the marriage of all the flavors of the fresh veggies and the aioli - magnifique! I would get this again, for sure. We were a rather large group with a rather squirmy baby and they were accomodating. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It is a bit small on the inside so bear that in mind. It is probably better for smaller groups but we were a group of about 7 and it worked out. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for a decently priced brunch spot in the village. I am a sucker for a cute french bistro! Being that my best friend is French, she has introduced me to so many cute authentic French restaurants in the city that it is now one of my favorite cuisines! Traveling to the city for dinner, while there is nothing like it, is rough to do every weekend after doing it all week long. When I first found this place, I was anxious to try it to see if it lived up to my "city" expectations and it certainly has! The French onion soup, the mussels, the wine...even the bread to start with is delicious! I honestly don't have anything to complain about from the food, to the service, to the quaint little atmosphere. I would highly recommend either for date night or dinner with friends. This is our first stop for LI restaurant week. I called a couple days in advance and asked about reservation. The lady who answered the phone was very rude and inpatient. This is a very small restaurant. Customers were sitting back to back. People sitting behind us were very nice to rotate their table so we could squeeze in. Otherwise there was just no way for us to sit. The waiter and their staffs were just standing there watching the whole time without saying a word or helping....The restaurant week menu was so limited it makes you wonder why they would bother to participate...they gave you chicken pate and butter for the bread but every person only get one slice of bread. The chicken pate and butter tasted like supermarket quality...not a big fan~ Onion Soup: 3/5 Usually onion soup is made of beef broth, although there's good amount of cheese and bread...the soup was lack of flavor Escargot: 3/5 good flavor but very very small escargot Calamars Framboise: 3/5 tastes like calamari with sweet chili sauce...but it's cold...I can see how this could be delicious if it's served warm Poutine: 3/5 very strong alcohol taste...my son refused to eat it but I think it's ok Sole Meuniera: 4/5 The sole was simple but delicious. The green beans and potato that came with it were kind of plain Hanger Steak: 2/5 we asked for medium and it came out to be medium well...almost well done. The garlic butter that came with it was sour...tasted kind of weird. French Bistro in Huntington Village. I was pretty impressed by this place as the food was very good and the service was equally good. Cassis has been here for some time and I had not been here in a few years so it was time to go back- glad I did. They have all of your French favorites and whoever is cooking back there is turning out some excellent fare. The tables are a bit cramped but no worse than anywhere in NYC. The place seemed a bit loud but it did not take away from the atmosphere- it seemed to add to the ambiance a bit even. The server was very good and knew her stuff. Definitely going back. In a word, Excellent. First of all, the economy must be doing very well because every good restaurant in Huntington was full with over an hour waiting time for tables. After being told an hour, we got a table in about 40 minutes. Those of you that know Huntington Village know that it may take that long to find a parking spot on a Saturday evening so get on the list and then go find a parking spot. When we got back, we were seated in about 5 minutes and got a nice table. The waiter staff was great. Prompt, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and not interrupting conversation. What more could you ask? By the way, the room is loud so be prepared to lean in to listen and project when speaking The meal was excellent. At our table we had duck confit, tuna, pasta, salads, shrimp and scallops (highly recommend!), calamari, and more. Wow! All done in the French style, well prepared and presented. I had the creme puffs for desert. Prepare to share it. Two large creme puffs filled with ice cream and covered in chocolate sauce. Second one is in my freezer for later today. Having been to all three of this chain's restaurants I have to say this restaurant is the worst. Apperitif in Bayside comes as 2nd worst and Sage Bistro in Planiview is the better of the three. At Cassis we ordered the Steak tartar which was actually pretty good, but a bit dry because there was no egg mixed in, the escargot was the worst my husband and I have ever had (we love escargot and order it anywhere it is available) - my understanding is that the chef forgot to add garlic to the dish (there was none at all and it is the essential ingredient). The day's duck special was so dry, lacked flavor or any finesse. To top it all off the service was subpar. After being seated we waited 15 minutes for a waiter to take the order. Bistro Cassis why hast thou forsaken me?! I really hate to do it but I have to downgrade one of my favorite restaurant to 3 stars which I've never done before. I've been here plenty of times before but the last time I went I left with a bad taste in my mouth, figuratively speaking. No on second thought it literally left a bad taste in my mouth and here's why: I have the Mussels Provencale here damn near everytime I've been here and it never fails. Unfortunately the last time i went, as I was eating the mussels I noticed there was a bit of a funk in a few of em, meaning they probably weren't so fresh. The sauce was on point, so much so that I wanted to ask for a straw to suck down all the deliciousness. Still, funky mussels + awesome sauce does not equal good food. Ordered both entree specials that night: Lamb Stew; it had turnips, carrots, potatoes and lamb chunks that were so dry you could probably strike a match on em, in an extremely bland gravy. It was a slightly upgraded version of canned Dinty Moore Beef stew, just sayin' Seafood En Papillote: Fillet of Sole, Sea Scallop, and Rock Shrimp in an herb Scampi sauce baked in parchment paper. This dish had way too many flaws; the scallop was huge but had bright orange hue to it which was off putting. All of the seafood needed different temps in order for it to cook properly, the sole was too thin and the scallop was too thick, resulting in all of it being overcooked seafood. The service was pretty shitty and the restaurant wasn't even that crowded. The waitress had a stank attitude like she was too good to be working there and on top of that we waited a good 20 minutes between the appetizer and the entree. I wonder what the hell took so long, did they actually go out and catch the fish? I'm only docking 2 stars because it was the only bad experience I've had in the many times that I've come here. In my opinion it's still def worth checkin out, I'm just gonna chalk it up to them having an off night. read more

What a great evening we had here! Although getting around Huntington and finding parking on a Friday night is a huge pain, when we stepped in to the place all of that melted away. Yes, it is quite loud in here so not the best choice for quiet conversation, but still it feels quite romantic - just casually so. The tables are all pretty much right on top of each other but we were lucky to snag an end. We started off with a couple glasses of wine (which were good selections) and a crab cake. It was quite crabby (as opposed to bready) and served with a slaw that my date loved. For our meals, he got the braised lamb shank (almost exclusively for the wild mushroom risotto) and I got the duck a l'orange. The duck was nice and crispy, and although some of it was a bit dry, the sauce helped it out and overall it was quite good. Sides on mine were wild rice and Brussels sprouts. Shockingly enough, I wanted a whole bowl of the sprouts. They were phenomenal. Of course we couldn't have a meal at a French restaurant without hitting all three courses, so we went for dessert as well. Since we couldn't decide, we got both the warm chocolate cake and the poached pear. Both came with a vanilla gelato, and both were the perfect way to end the meal. Went to Bistro Cassis for the first time last night. It is located slightly out of the main part of Huntington, a few buildings away from the AMC movie theater. It was Restaurant Week, so this place was packed! I did hear that there usually is a wait regardless, so keep that in mind. There is a bar up front and tables in the back section of the place. The bar has a huge wheel of cheese with pieces of delicious cheese, as well as a bowl of olives, for anyone to take. This cheese was amazing, really sharp and pungent. Once we were seated, it did take a little while to get water, but considering how busy it was and the promotion that was going on, I wasn't concerned. I was the only one at the table that did the price fixed $28.95 Restaurant Week menu, which offered a choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For the appetizer I went with the escargot. I've never had it before and figured that if I'm at a really good French restaurant it only makes sense to try it. It came out in a garlic butter and herb sauce with little croutons on top. The snail was amazing! I never thought I would say that. It was melt in your mouth and had a great taste with the sauce. Again, I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'd definitely have it again. I went with the crispy duck for the entree, which came with two huge pieces cooked in an orange sauce, with a side of mixed vegetables and wild rice. This was actually my first duck experience also (big night of firsts here), and it was amazing! I am kicking myself for not trying sooner. The meat was juicy and tender, and it had a super crispy skin, and that orange sauce gave it a really nice kick. The vegetables were really fresh and the wild rice was flavored really well and tasted great with that orange sauce. Dessert I went with creme brûlée, which came out amazing. They topped it with some strawberries and blueberries to couple the sweetness of the dessert. The best part was that all of this was $28.95! I've been out for Restaurant Week before, and usually for the deal you get, you sacrifice full portions of traditional menu items. I noticed that here they do not skimp on the portions, and I got a huge appetizer, entree, and dessert. My entree was bigger than some entrees at the table who ordered off of the normal menu! This place has that French feel to it especially if you eat outside... Having gone to Paris 4 times I would say take my word for it. Brunch is $20 and each meal comes with a generous portion of bacon, a sausage, potato hash type thing, choice of (mimosa, Bloody Mary or orange juice) and coffee or tea. I ordered the mushroom and spinach omelette and my brunch companions had the chicken and spinach crepe and salmon and cream cheese omelet. All in all we were all satisfied and quite full... However there's always room for dessert! Please do yourself a favor and get the pecan and walnut tart with gelato.. Just do it!
