I have it with salmon only, despite the fact that they did not have that version of it on the branch menu, they made it for me and... gave me the bacon and a sausage on the side! Had brunch here last weekend. Food was decent and the prices were fair. So why the one star? Reason = horrible service. We were a party of four. Three of us order a la carte. I ordered from the brunch menu which came with either a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa plus either coffee or orange juice. Prior to ordering, one of us ordered an orange juice to start. After the waitress took my order, she didn't ask if I wanted either a Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Fine. I asked if it came with it to confirm and she said yes. I told her I wanted a Mimosa. The Mimosa didn't come until 10 minutes later even though the restaurant wasn't 100% packed. Fine. I'll let that slide as maybe they're one person short. My spinach & egg crepe came 15 minutes later as did all the food. The food was good. No complaints. However no one came by to refill the water. Strike two in my mind. Furthermore, all the waiter and waitresses were nowhere to be seen as we couldn't even flag anyone down to ask for water. The waitress finally showed when we were finished. She asked if I wanted anything else? I said no, the bill, please. When the bill came, I saw we were charged for an orange juice while I never got the orange juice. My assumption and logic are the following: the waitress can apply the orange juice we ordered when we first sat down to my brunch set OR she should've asked if I wanted my orange juice or coffee which came with the meal. So I asked the waitress if my brunch special came with an orange juice or coffee? Her reply was yes. I then asked her why she didn't ask me if I wanted an orange juice or coffee? We started off with an amazing variety of mussels, and then moved on to the most crisp and delicious calamari I've had in a long time. The staff was fantastic and I really enjoyed the intimate setting. My favorite part of the night was destroying the Mille-Feuille! I couldn't stop eating it. I always seem to forget just how wonderful this place is but when I get myself there, it all comes back to me and I realize that I "try" to forget since the wonderful dishes are a bit on the heavier side for me calorie wise (at least what I choose). But as soon as I walk in, I am transported back to one of my many visits to Paris and that warm nostalgic feeling that accompanies it. My latest visit was last Thursday to celebrate Bastille Day with my best Paris travel partner Sandy. We had our choice of tables since we were early birds arriving at 6:30pm. We promptly started our meal with two Kir Royals (champagne with Creme de Cassis...Cassis! Get it?) which was our tradition in Paris. Then followed up with the classic Escargots (heavenly especially with extra bread to dip into the garlic sauce) and the Thon Tartar which was also fresh and delicious. For our main courses, I had the daily special with was also another classic dish, the Coq au Vin (chicken in red wine which also had handmade noodles and the incredible flavor component of bacon that added so much depth) while Sandy had a large bowl of mussels Mariniere with white wine and fresh herbs. That also had a lovely sauce that you MUST dip your bread into. We kept flagging the bread man down for more bread since we were being little piggies that night. Now if you thought I wasn't being a piggy, then get a load of this. We ordered the profiteroles AND a Tarte Tatin, because...well just because. And while the profiteroles were good, the tarte tatin was the shining star. The apples were so buttery and sweet with the flakey pastry that we had to order another one. Gasp!! A THIRD dessert!!! We did it. We achieved maximum cochon-ery! Keep in mind that Sandy weighs about 100 pounds soaking wet and me...well I'm sure the staff figured I was the one inhaling all this food since I weigh "a bit" more. But she was the one that ordered it ;) And I didn't stop her. Of course, leaving that night we heard of the horrific acts in Nice which was so sad, but knowing that Cassis exists locally gives us a chance to focus and celebrate what the French are so good at. Restaurant is small but bustling. The restaurant became increasingly loud as dinner progressed. Service was better than average. Our meal began with butter and pate served with complimentary bread. The bread was a little rough. I thoroughly enjoyed an appetizer of flatbread with bacon, perfect size for 2 although it would have been sufficient for 4. My entrée was the duck with grand mariner sauce, which also came with rice and vegetables. Duck was just spectacular. The skin was crunchy to perfection, meat tender. This is a decadent little french bistro with AMAZEBALLS creme brulee. Actually, I reall want to give this place a 4.5 stars because the HOT and CRUNCHY bread with cold butter was pretty incredible. However, I had the steak salad, which was good, but it's just way too small for the price. It's really the price of things that's the downfall...but that could be my own bias. Went there with family by a recommendation of a friend. The food is alright, nothing special. Even though it's a French restaurant, I'm not into French food so I ordered New York strip which came with French fries and ketchup on the side. Quite disappointing! Even in lower price restaurants they usually serve stake with baked potato or something. The stake itself was $35 and was not that great either. Is the owner aware that staff refuses to serve at 9:10 pm on a Tuesday? Hmmmm... Restaurant is advertised to be open till 10 pm and located next to a movie theater. One of my absolute favorite haunts whenever I'm home visiting my folks. We've been patrons of Bistro Cassis for YEARS, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm, bustling, and friendly, like a big party...and the aromas are always heavenly, especially in the Winter when you're freezing, and longing for some comfort food. Two of my personal faves: Sole Amandine, in a yummy lemon butter sauce, and the Moules (mussels) Provencales, in a tomato, garlic and basil broth. (TIP: The mussels are featured as an appetizer, but are more than enough for an entree, especially if you use all that fabulous crusty bread to soak up the broth, which is to die for.) Lots of good wine by the glass, including a nice Sancerre. My Mom always gets a Kir Royale, which is just plain fun. Best dessert hands-down: Profiteroles! It was empty when we were seated, but I kid you not, EVERY table was filled within half an hour. Cassis is exactly what I imagine in my head when I think of "French Bistro." It's cozy, it's sophisticated, it's charming, and it's romantic. Everyone is there to enjoy good food and drink together. I started with a Chocolate Martini. Awesome. Then again... it combines 2 of my favorite things: chocolate and vodka. So, moving on: the bread service is nice. Fresh, crusty baguette with butter and pate. I had the "Carre d'Agneau au Vin Porto," -- walnut crusted rack of lamb. It was expertly prepared; tender and juicy, flavorful without being gamey. The walnut crust added a great texture. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee. Again, very nicely done. Hors D'oeuvres are extensive and exquisite. From the Tarte Aux Oignons et Chèvrec, caramelized onions tart with goat cheese and tomatoes over mixed greens, to the Escargots Maître d'Hôtel, your taste buds transport you. Onion soup (calling it french onion soup seems kind of redundant) Steak Frites Ravioli Special with short ribs (and goat cheese?) We started off with the two appetizers. I love (french) onion soup and always try and get it in different places to try and find the best one. Well this is the best I've found so far. The cheese was fantastic, the soup was sharp and deep. It was like 89 degrees and humid last night, so it's a testament to how good it was that I was even in the mood for soup. The brie on toast was also excellent, but for the two of us they only gave us three pieces. Two pieces for a dollar less? Fine! It's an appetizer, I don't need it to fill me up. One more piece for a dollar more? Great! Two for each. But three pieces for two people? Weird. Needless to say, I got one, she got two (doghouse, remember?). We got the steak done medium rare, and it was delicious. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Served with a huge pad of herb butter melting over the top. The frites? Eh. Nothing special. Probably/definitely not homemade. I ate a couple, but concentrated on the steak and the ravioli. But ordering the dish was still worth it for the steak. Look at the menu; if they serve the same steak with another dish, I'd get that one instead. The ravioli were also really great. The were definitely homemade with delicious little pockets of short ribs in them. I thought I heard something about goat cheese in the description when he was saying it, but if it was there, it must have been in the sauce because I don't think there was any in the ravioli themselves. The Merlot was also good, but I don't know pocky about wine so don't trust me on that one. We had no complaints with the service as some of the other reviews mention. Bistro Cassis is a gem. Small, quaint, good food. We had an appetizer, Camembert cheese with arugula and fig jam - awesome!!!! A friend and I decided to split our entrees. The first was lamb encrusted with bleu cheese - uhmmm yum!! Wee wee! I will have that again anyday! We also shared the ravioli of the day. I wasn't expecting too much because I associate ravioli with Italian restaurants but when I heard 'chicken with gruyere cheese' bells and whistles went off in my brain because you could put cheese on dog.... I mean no, scratch that, I mean ANYTHING (minus dog...) and I'd eat it. The ravioli was what I was most excited about And it was pretty good but I definitely wouldn't put it on my second to order list. On the other hand, the lamb was awesome!!!! We has dessert too which was good. I don't really recall dessert other than being 'good' because I was completely engorged. My only complaint - we had 5 people and they don't take reservations ... This is a cute French restaurant with great food and wines. Sadly, some of the servers will also give you the French attitude... I guess it is part of the French experience when coming to the restaurant... I've been at Cassis 5 times, two for dinner and 3 for brunch. For dinner, we always enjoy the nice selection of French wines which average between $35-60 per bottle or $6 to $9 for a glass of house wine. As for appetizers, the French onion soup is super delicious! Also the "Brie sur Toast" which is warm Brie cheese served on toast with candied pecans and figs with frisée salad in a raspberry vinaigrette is very tasty. The bread offered comes out very warm and soft; butter just melts through it. The Sunday Brunch is the best deal in town. For $19 per person, you get a meal from the brunch menu,with a choice of Mimosa, Bloody Mary or OJ and coffee or tea. The eggs benedict is my favorite breakfast along with the crepes and omelettes. We went for dinner on Saturday around 7pm. And from start to finish, it was probably the strongest dining experience I have had in quite some time. The worst thig I can say is that they don't take reservations and you have to wait for a table in the very small bar area. Even so, we couldn't have waited longer than 10 minutes - these folks know how to turn tables! Martini was as good as I have had anywhere and the Bordeaux by the glass was terrific. APPS: Escargot was cooked just right (can easily be overdone and charred); caesar salad was dry and flavorful (poorly done caesars are swimming in goop). DIN: Hangar steak (rare) was done perfectly and cut was quite ample. Pecan-crusted chicken was terrific. DESSERT: Apple tart was sweet without being overpowering. SERVICE: Friendly and efficient. I went last night with my restaurant group. It is very busy on a Friday night We had reservations. For our 7:30 pm reservation we were seated about 8 pm. The bartender was alone and had to handle making the restaurant and bar drinks. Service was very slow and I had to shout at her to get a drink and waited at least 15 minutes for it. Then another 10 minutes to pay. The noise level was high The pear martini was delicious. They should have someone else help at busy times. At the table, we had long wait times for our meals. We were a table of 8 and dinners were not served at the same time. There was a lag of at least 10 minutes. Two diners steaks were ordered medium and well done. Both came out very rare and had to be sent back. My appetizer of clams was very salty and lightly steamed almost raw. I had duck. It had flabby skin and mediocre sauce. The noise level was off the charts and it was hard to have a conversation. I was not impressed and I won't go back. read more

Since Cassis opened in Huntington, I have been going there every couple of months or so for dinner, and a little more often for Sunday brunch, which seems to have few peers in the vicinity. The place works to make me feel comfortable in its French styled dining room that I find to be authentic after having traveled in France. The weight of the menu is large, despite the one page approach to keep it simple and one will notice that it changes with the seasons. My order is predictable and I usually drink beer with what I order. The service has always been good and there doesn't seem to be much turnover, if any, among the staff who must be doing well with the relatively high check averages. My only lingering doubt about Cassis, which reinforces its French elements, is the noise factor. If the place is in prime time (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday- 6-9pm) mode, then forget you heard anything from across the table. Regardless of the noise issues, I still look forward to the seasonal specials and encourage anyone with an interest in French style cooking to visit this place. read more

We always talked about this restaurant and finally we decided to try it. Escargots she got for appetizer and two more glasses wine were also ordered. With two tipsy minds and gigglingly moods, we went ahead ordered some cool meals. I'm a vegetarian, I got the ravioli with sun dried tomato and something else that I cannot remember(little tipsy :p). Located in Huntington village, this gem is a great dinner spot for a Friday and Saturday night. Its cozy location, but even when its packed- you don't feel overly claustrophobic. The waiters were all so knowledgeable and sweet. They recommended the Matiniere mussels which were to die for. The paired it with a side of frites, and fresh baked French bread to dip into the sauce. Super fresh, and full of wonderful spices. Next for my entrée I ordered the steak frites. It was the best choice I made. My meal was delicious, and perfectly portioned. My wife and I like to sit at the bar so that I am never too far from the giant chunks of aged parmesan cheese and marinated olives. Frankly I don't want to be too far away from the bar either as the cocktails are generous. We share our order here, and we really love the food. I have never been to Paris but with Bistro Cassis around I can get the flavor wothout leaving the county. It's small, noisy, friendly and most of all, delicious. We have had the steak frites, the beef bouganione (spelling?), the onion soup, and next time I'm gonna try the mussels described in a review preceding this one. We learned to sit at the bar and eat becasue it CAN be a wait fro a table. The place gets very busy after about 5:30 and its a small seating count, maybe 40 tops. But the bar seating is charming and comfortable so don't be afraid to go for it. read more

We recently went for dinner around 6pm on a Saturday night with no wait at all. We chose to sit inside because it was really warm out that day, and the decor was really cute. It reminded us of some of the cafes that we had recently eaten at while staying in Montreal. Our server was very attentive and even more helpful. We split a pecan encrusted goat cheese salad with candied pears that was excellent. I ordered a salmon entree and my fiance ordered a chicken entree which happened to be the special that evening. Both dishes were very good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the sweet potato couscous that came with the salmon. I would have to say that the chicken was the better of the two dishes, as the salmon had an ever so slight fishy taste to it. However, I would definitely return back to Bistro Cassis. I must mention the table baguette!! warm n crusty served w butter and pate. Excellent piece of dense bread! Perfectly satisfying no butter needed and skipped the pate! ( I don't eat landmeat!) Now I ordered the Friday special- entree bouillabaisse (seafood stew) in a buttery liquid of sea goodness served w few slivers of the crispy baguettes (croutons) to dunk in my heavenly sauce! I swear, if I didn't have company, I would've tilted the dish over my mouth & drank every last drop of good juice these mussels clams shrimp n white fish w bathed in wine & butter. Too bad I didn't have a soup spoon or a ladle at the table! Pls take time to click on restaurant site and look over the menu.. There's something for everyone!! I would leave the kids at home for this place (if you have kiddies) pls leave them @ HomE! Now, I must also mention I would've given 4 + .5 stars but our waitress was a bit annoying and was a bit over attentive that everytime she came over and now I think about it- she was irritating! Def would give 4.5 stars if I started off the bar right w my lillet on ice in lieu of the Riesling and if we were served by someone else! I mightve been generous and give 5 stars if i had dessert but i ended w a cup of coffee and tried to be good-Will def go back to try some other dishes and their daily specials. perhaps next time i will order the creme bulee! Been to Cassis two times so far I've been highly impressed both times. The ambiance is breathtaking. You feel like your in the middle of Paris. Now the food, The Best Jerry The Best. Had the escargot , amazing. Then. Had a beef dish in a red wine sauce. God I love French food. This place is a must if you live in Huntington. The service was excellent as well. I went to Cassis today for a birthday lunch with some of my co-workers. The place seemed really nice and high scale, however, when I sat down I expected a cloth napkin, not a paper one. I figured with the prices they charged I would at least receive a cloth napkin. The bread was abundant and the servers kept bringing over more pieces when our plates were empty. I ordered the chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado. The bread was a tad too toasted. It's three hours later and the roof of my mouth still hurts from it. But the food still tasted pretty good. i've been meaning to review cassis for a while now, I came here for my birthday this past October during restaurant week and was definitely not dissapointed. Quite possibly the best calamari i've ever had. I don't remember the exact dish it was on the menu but it was also my first time trying duck and it was absolutely amazing.
