The parson cooking was a chef not a line cook and was able to follow through on delivery with some creative dishes. The blueberry compote on brioche French toast was wonderful. The American Breakfast was 2 eggs, amazing crispy fresh fingerling potatoes and smoky bacon. My son had apples and waffles. My grilled fresh homemade sourdough with eggs and mushrooms on top with the lightest cream sauce you can imagine. Was delicious.The ambiance is first class. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful, but the best part is the customer service. The servers were very attentive. My wife and I enjoyed Bistro du Jour well enough to consider it for a return visit. We remarked, as we were leaving the Royal Sonesta hotel it is part of, that it is more expensive than you might suppose. I travel between New York City and Washington, D.C. by train, often. I live and work in Queens, NYC, and my elderly father resides in suburban DC, on the Maryland side. I check on him. My wife and our little dog visit sometimes. So on a return ride, I need to depart Union Station, and my wife and I are able to have supper before I board. We have decided to explore the neighborhood. So many new places have opened, on all sides. Bistro du Jour is among them. The waiter said they have been around for three months. When we showed up, we had to walk around workers busy with the patio outside, even on a Friday night before a long weekend -- a whole crew was out, and that is a sign of the neighborhood developing. I would not have thought of the hotel as having an upscale venue for dining. Outside the US, however, the best restaurants are often associated with a place to stay. When we walked in, we saw the confidence expressed by the business. The dining area is spacious. They are expecting to do well. They did not disappoint. We had escargot, cheese puffs, chicken, and the mushroom pastry, finishing with creme brûlée, and a glass of sauternes (for me) and a decaf cappuccino (for my wife). The escargot were as garlicky as possible, which is how they ought to be, served in a ramekin. The cheese puffs were fine, and we saved a couple for my father. The chicken was moist and flavorful, with mashed potatoes. The mushroom pastry was excellent, with a bit of spinach and a poached egg. The server was attentive, as new as the enterprise. We were in no hurry. We arrived at 6:30, and my train was at 9:05, so we wanted to linger. The guy paced himself to us. We were there a good 90 minutes, which is how long a date should last. Although we intend to look at what else is around, I predict we will rank Bistro du Jour as a regular haunt. I wish them well. read more

One of the most memorable food experiences!! Everything was just incredible. Started off with a chestnut soup, gougere, and mussels. The soup was incredibly savory! The gougere just melted in my mouths, and the white wine sauce in the mussels was out of this world. Had steaks and chicken. MUST HAVE the chicken dinner dish. Just have it. Can't describe how tender the chicken was and I don't know what and how they did it but the chicken was filled with a flavor that I've never tasted. A wonderful Parisian bistro just off Capitol Hill! The restaurant is light and airy, has attentive service and a fantastic and hearty breakfast. We stayed in the hotel and dined here for lunch. The food was good. But the host, Keanu, was very rude to my wife. Lots of rules at this establishment and it made for an unpleasant experience. We came in at 11am and had our eye on some breakfast plates but "breakfast" items were no longer being offered so we were initially disappointed but were satisfied with the what we ended up with. My daughter reviewed a social media post regarding this establishment, and we decided to try for lunch. We ordered; however, my order was not prepared as requested. I noticed it immediately, but had to wait at least five minutes for my waiter to return. The meal Was taken back to be prepared properly, and I expressed my concern about being unable to eat my meal at the same time as my daughter. The new mail arrived but was significantly delayed, and my daughter has finished her meal. Therefore, she had to wait for me. I received my bill, and it was a standard rate. I brought this to the attention of the manager. The manager apologize and my daughter and I heard that she was going to take 50% off the bill. I ordered Soupe A L'oignon and Salade Niçoise. The soup was rich and flavorful but not greasy at all. The salad was refreshingly delicious! Good food accompanied by good services and enjoyable live Jazz music/singing, Bistro Du Jour Capitol Hill has eased my longing for being back in Paris! Lovely place with great service and wonderful food. Decided to take myself to breakfast after walking by many times and I was very glad I did. Cozy but large space - the tables were spaced much better than the standard DC sardine like environment. Service was friendly and attentive and fast. Three of us ate there and we all got sick from the food, what a waste of money...very pricey to begin with

Ordered Dover Sole, but it was actually flounder that was used (a much cheaper fish). The worst part is the waiter bluntly lied to us about it after brought to his attention. He said he went to the back and it said Dover Sole on the box. (When you pay this kind of money, Dover sole shouldn't come from a box it should be bought fresh anyway). I know it was flounder instead of sole as I boil flounder all the time to feed my cats.. the server went on to bring his "manager" which was actually not a manager but just his fellow waiter. They couldn't stop talking trying to explain their lie, comparing this Dover Sole mixup to McDonald's burgers that was sold to him as real beef when he was a kid....wtf? His service was actually very professional until he got entangled in his lies. That is even more disappointing than the fish itself. In addition we ordered bread which was rock hard as it was several days old & dry (they told us it was toasted....LOL) & their Mac & Cheese was just a big pile of cheese with almost no Mac, very greasy. Again when the brought up to the waiter he went on to tell us his personal stories of lactose intolerance...ewww. Very disappointing experience as I had went by the yelp reviews to choose this place. I am not surprised now why the restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night. I would never come back and never recommend this place. read more
