    French onion soup

I've enjoyed everything we've eaten here. After the restaurant name change I thought that they didn't serve crepes all day but they actually do have crepes on both their lunch and dinner menu. Both the savory crepes and dessert crepes are great. I love that the apples in the apple crepe have a nice texture (not too soft) and that they don't use cinnamon. Cute atmosphere. Great for a date night or catching up with a friend.

This place is the real deal. It has a wonderful, authentic bistro atmosphere and the service was lovely. We tried the Parisian and Scandinave Galettes and they were fantastic, paired perfectly with our cappuccinos. So happy to have discovered this spot--I'll definitely keep coming back!

Really great crêpes. Came with a group of friends and we got a mix of savory and sweet crepes which were all very thin, juicy, and delicious. I really liked the Sarrasine one especially since I crave savory food for brunch! It did take a while to get our food on a busy Saturday, and the crepes are expensive for what they are. The ambiance is very cute and old school -- it seems a little less popular with the younger crowd which was actually refreshing. Would come back!

    Fish and chips

I came across here last time with a friend and when he ordered the fish and chips, a GARGANTUAN bounty was hoisted onto the table making me immediately envious and vowing to return And return I did. The fish and chips is a pretty good deal at 20 dollars compared to other attempts around the city. Admittedly the portion was less than my initial star struck encounter. Batter and (importantly) fish were flavourful! The batter is a bit moist on the inside while being crunchy outside which was perfect for me and had me reminiscing the good old days of visiting my local chippie in London. The only downside is the switch to these smaller pieces of fish, I think with a larger fillet, it would retain more flavour whereas with these smaller ones, the moistness of the inside batter actually grew slightly tiring toward the end of the meal. Despite this, there aren't many places around which cook it quite like this, in my experience. So if I'm around I'll likely be popping in again!

It's rare to find an authentic creperie here in the city, especially one that serves buckwheat crepes. Bistro La Chaumière is a rarity. Located on the bustling street of Divisadero, the restaurant has an unassuming exterior but cozy interior suitable for small to medium sized parties. Staff are welcoming and accommodating. Reservations (on OpenTable) are encouraged. Although the weekends I went still had a few tables available at peak lunch time, making a reservation won't hurt. The galettes are large and filling with a crispy exterior and a chewy interior. The center is packed with ingredients and flavor. I also really enjoyed the French onion soup, pommes frites, and moules frites (mussels and fries) as sides and to share. If you're looking for a brunch/lunch spot without a waitlist and one that is not your typical omelette or eggs benedict, this place is it. Come support this local business, you won't be disappointed!

Hey munchkins how's it going! I just did a Diplo run which was pretty interesting. The run itself was a 2.8 mile run which was not too bad followed by a 2.5 hour rave of Austin Mills followed by Diplo. I know Diplo is supposed to be the start but to be honest I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. After a full set of that though we went to Bistro La Chaumière and it was good. The French soup is ok, I do wish that it had cheese but all in all I liked it. It's salty which I needed to replenish my electrolytes after the run. We also got a savory crepe bar reminded my friend of growing up in France. It took her back home to the days of French food in the streets and cigarette smoke in the sheets. The buckwheat effortlessly complimented the tomatoes and it was quite hearty. All in all it was a solid post run recovery meal that I greatly encourage yall to try!

We were walking from the Painted Ladies looking for something to eat without a plan and we happened upon this little gem!!!! I can not say enough good things about this bistro!!! Amazing food is an understatement, it was little bites of heaven. We ordered the Croque Mademoiselle, and the Trois Œufs, it was so delicious! The Croque Maswmoiselle had perfect salmon, delicate béchamel sauce and excellent sunny side egg! The Cafe Americano was so smooth so rich so perfect on a cool day! The server was fast, friendly and efficient!! A must try while you are in the city!!

Crepe Fraise /strawberries, vanilla ice cream and chocolate; Tea.

I previously tried La Sarrasine before it rebranded to Bistro la Chaumiere. Came by in the middle of the week during a quick break to try the strawberry Nutella (or was it Chocolate?) crepe with vanilla ice cream. The crepe was good, not too thick, very sweet with the chocolate or Nutella filling. Ice cream was perfect accompaniment. Tea was great to help with the sweetness. I sat by the window toward the front with some tea. Felt very civilized and content. I should do this again when I have the time I think to myself. Maybe try other things on the menu. Ambiance quiet and service was good. Located on Divisadero and Hayes.

    Bristled Brussel sprouts 1/10/25

My friend and I stopped in for an early evening meal yesterday. The restaurant is closed until 5pm. She brought us here to try some crepes but in the evening no crepes are served. A revamp of the evening menu after re-opening from its former life under a different name. The ambiance is cosy with white bistro chairs, small tables and a banquette against a wall. Upon entering, the head waiter then told us ALL the seats in the restaurant were reserved. The front window bistro seating was the only seats available... (we sat and ate our food with more than half of the restaurant still empty when we left...not good). My companion was eager to try a Normandy cider (alcohol) and she got a glass. She enjoyed it. The food: we chose French soupe à l'oignon and two appetizers to share: the prawns plate and blistered Brussels sprouts. The soupe ($11) was good. The gruyère cheese was melted on top of chunks of country bread and the broth was flavorful and not overly salty like most places. The bowl was a bit small. The prawns appetizer ended up to be 4 prawns on a full-sized plate with a rémoulade sauce ($17). The prawns were tasty yet a little over cooked. When overcooked, prawns become hard, as was the case. The Brussels sprouts dish ($11) was a big bowl of the veggies! Biting a small round, it was creamy inside and a bit smoky with crisp bits. Tasty. The service was prompt with staff refilling water glasses and quickly clearing empty plates. Overall, the restaurant was okay (not great) but expensive. The cost of the glass of cider, two soups and two apps plus tax and a surcharge for using a credit card brought the total to $70. I haven't eaten out along the Divisadero corridor of NoPa for a long time. It's a very popular area, but I think the food at Bistro La Chaumière neither impressed me nor justified the cost. Since I just returned a few weeks ago from Paris where I found dining out more reasonably priced, generous and flavorful, I will not be returning to this bistro.

On a cold day in SF, we were craving a nice brunch and were excited to find a place serving French crepes. I generally get pretty excited by Crepes! I've had French crepes before and I thought the food here was pretty decent - 3/5. We ordered two savory crepes - one of the Poulet and one of the Florentine. According to the menu, the Poulet was supposed to come with some Pesto sauce too but there wasn't any. I felt it was also a tad too oily for my liking. It was pretty light on filling otherwise - the chicken was pretty minimal for the price, which I felt was also on the higher side! In addition we also got a French Onion soup to share. I haven't had one before, but it was a bad too cheesy for my liking!

The inside of the restaurant is charming, with plentiful bar seating to watch as dishes are prepared in front of you in an open kitchen. The menu itself is constantly evolving and may be different with every visit. That being said, the main menu is a prix fixe 4-course meal with the option to add on 2-3 additional dishes to share. The meal starts with a amuse-bouche, generally a cold soup. For us it was a chilled golden beet soup, which tasted a bit like a nice, creamy sweet corn. One of the add-ons was the pâté de campagne, a blend of pork and fatty liver. Paired with a dijon mustard and fresh sourdough bread, it was surprisingly elevated for such a simple dish. Next were a pair of fish dishes that were the highlights of the meal, including sierra mackerel with fennel and peach, and monkfish and smoked butter. The monkfish was a particular standout as it was coated with a dill sauce, and complimented with the sweetness of diced rhubarb and earthiness of hazelnuts. The monkfish featured a smoky and lightly spiced flavor. The dish was extremely well-balanced and paired sweet, savory, sour, spicy, and smoky to a tee. Really excellent. The octopus and yukon potato was an add-on - the octopus was extremely tender, not rubbery at all, and the potatoes were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft like a mashed potato on the inside. The meal ended with a hanger steak which was solid, but compared to the other dishes, less extravagant. The dessert featured a rose sorbet, with milk foam and strawberries. As a whole, Mijoté dishes are simple, layered and extremely satisfying to eat. While presentationally may not blow you away, the taste will leave you feeling satisfied. The blend of French and Japanese culinary tradition and cuisine, Mijoté is comforting, elevated, and balanced. Very rare to find fine-dining that tastes so great while also feeling homey at the same time. If in SF, absolutely worth a visit.

Beef Tartar: It seemed like the meat was diced small by hand, not mechanically processed into ground beef, which is how it should be. It came to the table pre-mixed except for the quail egg on top. The flavor had a nice a Dijon mustard tang. The portion of crispy crostini was just right for the amount of meat (many places short change you on that). Roasted Bone Marrow: Looks primal, with one large bone cut cross sectionally and charred on top. They added some Dijon mustard and breadcrumbs before the broiling, which really enhanced the experience. A little goes a long way with this intense marrow spread of crostini. Was busy as usual but I came with a group of two(highly recommended) as the seating was much faster than the larger parties. The portions for some of the entrees are huge so be mindful not to over order! We tried the mussels which were delicious and the sauce it came with was great with the fries from the hamburger. I found the burger to be way more luxurious than what you'd normally expect. Again be prepared some things can be quite large. we also tried the soup of the day which was this lovely tomato basil soup and the pork chop which was perfectly cooked with another great sauce that i kept on dipping the fries in. One last note is the atmosphere it definitely feels like a nice cozy cafe that makes you wanna stay and chat with ur neighbors. Had a blast and i'm looking forward to trying their other entrees someday!

Flexible fine dining…read more Heard about this place from a friend and figured we would try it out. It was pretty easy to secure a resy on open table. The inside is dimly lit yet warm and the staff were extremely friendly. The intriguing thing about their menu setup is its modularity - choose between 3-5 courses with any combination of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Not being super big on desserts, we opted to share 2 x 3 courses, which was more than enough (too much) food. Seared Ahi Tuna 4/5 - Fresh tuna with a gentle sear, paired with avocado and an herbaceous dressing Seared Scallops 5/5 - Perfectly seared scallops on a bed of pasta. The earthiness of the cumin paired well carrots and pumpkin seeds. Branzini 5/5 - Fish was incredibly flakey with a satisfying crispy skin. Didn't know raisins and capers went together, but it does. Sweet and salty. Roast Lobster 5/5 - Can't hate on lobster when it cooked right. Edamame in mashed potatoes surprised me in a good way. They actually both have mild flavors with different textures and absorbed the sauce well. I used the bread to soak up the extra sauce Roast Quail 4/5 - Quail is always tough to do right. Their quails were really tiny, which was kinda cute and welcome (I didn't really want to eat a large quantity of quail anyway). The only bones is just from the drumsticks, which makes it very easy to eat. The meat itself was tender and the inside contained a sweet stuffing. The pasta on the side was al dente and the addition of lightly cooked spigarello provided a nice contrast in texture and taste. Filet of Beef 5/5 - Juicy steak, cooked medium rare. Potato gratin seems like the appropriate pairing, though I wish it was slightly crispier. Bone marrow bearnaise tied it all together. If I were to summarize the menu, it feels classic at first glance with unexpected ingredient pairings. They were quite intelligent about their menu in that they provide a solid number of choices. I did notice that they do recycle some of their sauces across dishes, which is probably how they get away with a larger menu. We were celebrating a special occasion and they did provide us with a complimentary cake and small bites, which was welcome. I am really glad we didn't order actual dessert because that would have been too much. They also give you a pineapple cake to take home, which was nice. If I were to go back in time, I would have not eaten the complimentary bread as it turned out I needed the stomach space. PSA: If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve, this restaurant is part of their exclusive tables and eligible for the dining credit

We haven't been back since 10 years exactly next month. Came to celebrate Father's Day , my bday, and anniversary! The 3 course went up in price due to inflation from $83 to $130pp. It's more expensive than getting the 5 course back then. 3 course is a good size to share for 2 people so you get to try 6 dishes. Cheese spread is intense but counts a dish for 4 Types of cheese. They bring the cart to you, we didn't order but saw many did. We skipped the appetizer and dessert to ge the most bang for the buck. We saw others getting salads though. Scallop, Lobster, Branzini fish, duck, Lamb, and filet Bonus starter soup My fav dish was the scallop Though most dishes I would say are on the salty side They gave us each a small dessert plate to celebrate Get to leave with the breakfast pineapple goodie Ambiance was a bit chiller than I recall though I was naive to fine dining back then. They do still fold the napkins for you when you step away from the table though.

The decor was minimal and nice, and definitely felt like a more upscale lunch spot. A majority of the group ordered the chicken sandwich which everyone said was delicious! The duck and steak frites were also a highlight for the group. I got the BLT croissant sandwich, which was tasty but I honestly didn't love their fries. The portions were huge and overall we were happy with our lunch! Service was phenomenal and they navigated serving a large party well. Even on a random Wednesday there were a ton of customers. I definitely want to come back for dinner and to try more of their menu items.

Less than 1 star - Won't be back, and we just bought a house two blocks away…read more I made a reservation for two and specifically requested inside seating. When we arrived, the host -- a blonde woman with a serious attitude problem -- tried to seat us at a cramped makeshift table outside in direct sunlight where there was heavy foot traffic. When we reminded her of our indoor reservation, she was annoyed and told us to wait as "you can see it's packed". Others who asked and didn't have reservations were treated kindly and told "ok don't worry". I was with my mom who was visiting and she is sensitive to direct sunlight which is why we requested an indoor reservation. While we stood there waiting, we noticed a white couple who had clearly finished their meal being (checked paid just sitting) allowed to linger indefinitely, while the table right next to them was being rushed out and asked to bag their leftovers "overthere" because the restaurant was busy. That contrast was not lost on us. When we were finally seated inside (also cramped -- tables are packed very tight), my mom nudged our table slightly to create a little breathing room from the couple next to us. Or at least make it equidistant between table. The same host walked over and told her not to move the tables. No warmth, no apology for the wait -- just another reminder that we were an inconvenience. I was confused about the treatment received. Can someone explain? And then the food. The omelette was runny and greasy. The chicken in my sandwich was so overcooked and dry it was actually painful to swallow -- I'm not exaggerating. I was so excited to find a neighborhood spot after moving nearby. This was supposed to be a lovely Saturday brunch on May 23. Instead, the host managed to ruin the entire experience before we even sat down. The food finished the job. We won't be returning.

There's small seating area downstairs with bar type seating (not a bar, just bar-type) and pretty booth in their front window. Also some outside seating and regular tables on the second floor. The ambiance is rustic and perfect for a brunch. Looks like a historic building with hard wood floors. We wore jeans and nice tops. A sundress would have been a good choice if the weather was better. We ordered bone marrow app and charcuterie. Both were unbelievably delicious. The marrow was unctuous and plentiful. Charcuterie was not the typical cured meats. It included pate, French salami, and cured duck breast. The pate was the best I've ever had. Husband ordered scrambled eggs which were cooked French style soft with bacon. I ordered the French toast which was covered in strawberry, blueberry, real whipped cream and a little drizzle of strawberry sauce. No syrup. The bread had some sort of embedded custard, which was on another level delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. This is a restaurant for foodies. The physical space leans into rustic rather than fancy, while the food is gourmet, comforting and worth the visit. It's well located and only 5 minutes walk to Macy's. I think I'm going to obsess on this meal and find a way to visit again soon, even though I'm from out of town.
