In town visiting family and chose Huckleberry's for a weekday lunch. I've been to the one in Roseville and had a good experience there, so I was optimistic about this one and it did not disappoint. Plenty of parking, and the dining room was clean and inviting. Background music was at a comfortable level for conversation while at the same time giving the place a New Orleans feel. Shout out to Annabella who was working both as hostess and our server. She did an incredible job throughout our visit. Prices are in the upper teens for breakfast. I went with the Dixie Skillet and it was huge! I could have easily split it with someone, but instead I took the other half home for breakfast the next morning. Honestly, I think they could cut the portion back a third, drop the price down to $14, and it would still be a fair value. Here's a tip for families: if you have toddlers who are fine with a half-pancake and maybe some samplings of fruit, potato, or eggs off your plate, choose a side for your meal that they can have. Unlike Black Bear Diner's $5 kids meals, Huckleberry's misses the mark here by charging over $7. Not needing a full breakfast for our granddaughter, we thought ordering just a single piece of French toast was a cheaper alternative, but were charged $6.49 for just that! Not exactly young family wallet friendly. No star deduction for that; just be aware. Bottom line... Come hungry and enjoy! read more

Food: 2.6 Sunday brunch after church is are normal, but we decide to go back to Huckleberry's since they've been consistent our last few visits. Unfortunately this was one of those days! Greeted at the door and sat immediately, our server came over and took our drink order; at this point we were off to a great start but that's where service stalled. Our server dropped off drinks and took our food order: chicken and waffle stack and a Monté Cristo sandwich with fries. Our food gets dropped off fairly quickly (by food runners). My wife is very simple and doesn't complain about much so I could not assess her meal, but the Monté Cristo was a disappointment, the sandwich was oily which I expected if it was deep fried but it was just oozing clarified butter and the powdered sugar was an afterthought or only for looks. Even the powdered sugar couldn't hide the amount of oil leaking from the bread. The side of French fries were cold and soggy, so I decided to pack them up and refry them at home since I knew my wife would only eat half her meal. This is my first visit to Huckleberry's on Elk Grove Blvd. A great place to go for breakfast anytime of the day. My friend had the breakfast with sausage, two eggs and waffles, while I shared a Monte Cristo with my niece. They made it easy and split the order for us. The server asked if we wanted French fries or sweet potato fries. We chose sweet potato today. Though not an issue for me, it would've been nice if she mentioned a slight additional charge for sweet potato fries. The food was good, but nothing special. I came here yesterday morning with my mother to treat her for her birthday since she was visiting for the weekend. I honestly picked this restaurant because I haven't tried it. I've heard some reviews about it so we decided to have breakfast. Our waitress Kylie was super sweet, very attentive and provided excellent customer service. When I let her know, it was my mom's birthday. I had no idea. They had a surprise for her. I just was letting her know the reason why we came to try the restaurant out. But everyone was so nice and I appreciate that and even the manager came at the end to ask us how our mail went. We let them know that our meal items that we selected were good. However, they did forget to get my mom's side order of red potatoes, but I will say they were apologetic about the error. I still gave a rating of five stars based upon the customer service alone. I was pleased with the portions and for the prices they were very reasonable. I will say one little thing, though the French toast could've had a little more cinnamon in it and it would've been just fine but other than that, the mail was delight. The main thing my mother was happy, especially with the birthday treat and how the staff that knew it was her birthday acknowledged it and she felt so special. Now I need to make my way back there to try their lunch items at a different time. Last I wanna mention, I had no idea that it was like a swamp theme type of restaurant I think when I saw the big crocodile in the cave, I got a clue. The Cajun Benedict is my favorite. And the red potatoes were delicious! I think the lemonades are a bit pricey, but they do come in a large mason jar. We ordered 2 of the Bayou Style Catfish with Scrambled Eggs on the side, Chicken Fried Steak and Huckleberry Stack Chicken & Waffles. Any Disneyland fans out here? This place reminds me of the Jungle Cruise. The place is a themed, casual restaurant. The food is always tasty - I keep forgetting to snap a few photos. Took my hubby to Huckleberry's for his first visit for a little birthday brunch. Forgot it was a holiday so it was a little crowded in this small casual dining room but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Service was very friendly. And the food was delicious. Today we started with the Mardi Gras beignets of course, the hubby ordered the New Orleans Skillet with the creole sauce on the side and I enjoyed Tony's scramble with sausage. The hubs said the sausage and shrimp in his scramble made a perfect combo of flavors but maybe too many potatoes mixed in (next he'll order without potatoes) and my scramble was scrumptious...a huge biscuit split in half topped with some of the best sausage patties I've ever had, scrambled eggs and warm comforting country gravy with a side of hash browns. Came here on a holiday, Monday morning. The restaurant was relatively busy. The positives are that the staff are nice. The downside is that the restaurant is a bit disorganized. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that maybe the restaurant was a little understaffed for how busy it was. The waitress we had, forgot a drink we ordered and had to ask twice for it. We didn't have any silverware until after the food came out and we had to ask for it. We weren't served any water. I ordered a coffee and was not offered a refill and we were not checked in on during our meal. We didn't get our full orders, as Our orders should have come with toast but it never came out. We ended up not asking for it since it appeared the wait staff was a bit overwhelmed. We saw two parties walk out for issues with the restaurant. The food was mediocre, but the portions are large. I had ordered a build your own omelette. One of the items I asked for was avocado. I got one slice and part of it still had the skin attached. I don't think I will be back here. read more

When we pulled up, we noticed that there was a lot of people waiting, but the weight was not long at all. We were traveling home from Sacramento and just found this place on a Google search. The inside of the restaurant is very cool backwards by you atmosphere. Every time I go to a restaurant, I always watch all the plates coming out that are going to the tables and everything looked amazing. I got the Mississippi scramble and my wife got the banana cinnamon French toast. We both loved it. A big plus as they give you a giant glass jar for your drink. Refill was not needed. First off, we went for the Beignets and I was beyond disappointed, they were chewy and gummy in the middle, the sauces they came with them were pretty good i like all but the huckleberry. I've been here twice, and can confirm the Huckleberry's is a great place for big, American breakfasts with a light New Orleans twist. i say "light," because one of my only critiques of this place is that the dishes i've had have been pretty light on seasoning, which is very much not the case in New Orleans. Otherwise, the portions are generally quite generous, and there's a good variety of classic dishes with Huckleberry signatures. I wish there were more espresso drink options, but I expect most people will want to take advantage of the variety of mimosas anyways. One final note: this place has some of the friendliest servers we've had in along time! If you want to visit on a weekend and have more than 2 people, be sure to call ahead as the wait can be quite long. read more

I haven't been to Huckleberry's since it opened, so I thought I would give it another try. My girlfriend and I got the Crab Benedict. Very disappointing, the taste was less crab and more bread coating. The best part about the dish was the red potatoes. The best however was yet to come. We also ordered the "Beignets" which were a far cry from what I have had in the past. Now I have been to New Orleans to Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter where these originated.
