The worst meal I've had out in Asheville in 5 years. We eat out all the time. First of all, this was a Saturday evening at 6:00. The signage indicated they were out of ribs. What kind of barbecue place runs out of ribs on a Saturday? My party of 4 ordered chopped BBQ, roasted chicken, chopped BBQ and more chicken. The sides were virtually inedible. The worst creamed corn ever. The BBQ was only fair. The chicken was probably cooked the day before. This location has always been the spot where restaurants go to die. A true family business, they put extra care and love into their food and service. Great portions, friendly staff, and cleanliness all make this place appealing. They were fabulous about take out, but they have a nice dining room too with big bathrooms and lots of seating. read more

Dude. Wow. Man. So I've heard about Webo's for quite some time. There's always this debate between Luella's or 12 Bones, or the new guys in town like Bonfire and Buxton, but man... sometimes the unsung heroes are just killing it and not getting enough attention. I must admit, I don't get down to the South Asheville area often, and I haven't taken the time to make a pilgrimage to this spot yet. This has been a mistake on my part. I have been depriving myself of a truly classical Carolina BBQ experience. I ordered the meat sampler, with pork, brisket, and let the man behind the counter (who turned out to be one of the owners) pick my third. He advised the chicken, which is GREAT because I wanted some chicken. This came with two sides, so I went with the brunswick stew and another dealer's choice, which was collards. My order was up ultra fast. Like literally, I'm standing there and paying and my to go order is up and I'm out the door. I had just enough time to walk around the deceivingly large space. It looks like of tiny from the outside, nestled in the corner of the shopping center around the corner from Asheville's hottest outlet store Rugged Warehouse, but inside it's quite spacious. Comforting. It feels like that place your grandparents used to like to go to on a specific night of the week and order the same thing because it was delicious and reliable, and always affordable. Oh! Sauces, we should talk about sauces. Webo's has a ton, sweet, spicy, mustard, vinegar, white, all awesome. I was super impressed by the white and the mustard. Thumbs up all around. The meat was all great. The pork is beautifully smoked and ultra moist. The brisket came out in perfect slices, not overly smoked, not too fatty, but the real winner was the chicken. Oh my god. Oh my god. When I got home and dove into my take out meal that's all I could say as the smokey dark meat goodness entered my mouth. Oh my god. It probably sounded more like ermahgud but WHOA. I would come back here just for a 1/4 dark meat chicken. According to the owner they get pretty busy on Friday nights, so I would definitely advise swinging by here for a lunch pick up. The food has gotten progressively worse every time we've gone here after the change of owners. The sweet sauce is disgusting now. The chicken is so dry you have to choke it down in the sauce and the dessert was the worst I've ever had. Even my 4yr old wouldn't eat the chocolate pie. It had disgusting cheap sitting for days whip cream on it and a very weird texture. To top it off the crust was burned. The jello pudding box produces a better pie. I can't help but feel the new owners are sinking a lot of money on looks and trying to be "hipster" while making really bad food. They were handed a solid business model with recipes and are just ruining them all. read more

We have been here 7 times counting today. They have the best BBQ in this area. The lady on the cash register needs to improve her people skills. She has been there our last 3 visits. We thought she must be having a bad day but 3 times. Short acts like she does not want to give out information on the dishes and sides served. Short no smiles and very terse. You can beat it with a stick, but you can't beat it for the price. Webo's is a good, relatively inexpensive alternative to the high-end places. My wife and I only order one thing, every time we go: A rack of ribs, with a couple of sides. Good and cheap eats! our two favorite sides are cole slaw and collard greens, and they do 'em up great. One of the neat things they do, is have BBQ sauce samples at the register, so you can try them out. They have a good variety of sauces, representing a variety of interests. If I lived a little closer, I would try the other options. They are now in the shopping center with Hamrick's, tucked away in the corner. They have plenty of comfortable seating, inside and out, with clean rest rooms, and understated diner memorabilia. They also have a focus on North Carolina Barbecue, and will even sell you a N.C. BBQ map, as well as cookware, and even huge grills. Nobody ever hawks these item's, they're just on display, for when you're ready to drop a chunk of change. Do the Webo! read more

First time there and I'm so happy to have such a great BBQ restaurant in East Asheville. Great service. I ordered to go and the turn around time was quick. I let my food sit for an hour when I got home and it still tasted delicious. I had their special burnt end of the day: surf and turf. Pulled pork sandwiche topped with Virgina blue crab, carrot slaw, and tomato aoli. The meat was cooked perfect; crispy on the end, but juicy on the inside. So much flavor. Dinner was great! Customer service was excellent! When they learned that my youngest was a persnickety eater, they searched out the last of the Mac and cheese and brought it out for him to try after he wasn't a fan of what he had ordered. Well, we just picked up our order of a meat and cheese tray for Thanksgiving. It was $20 and said to feed 6-10 as an appetizer. It includes a roll of Ritz crackers, some grocery store cheese, 4" of a 1" diameter unidentified meat, and 1 piece of country ham rolled up in plastic. The crackers and the container of peppers/olives could certainly feed 6-10. The meats and cheeses would be good to serve 3 at a few pieces of each item for each person. I've often tried to buy local with Black Bear BBQ but often are disappointed. Some of their food is good, but some only passable. I've often too not gotten all that I've ordered to go, only to discover that when I'm home. That's my bad for not checking certainly. But you DO get automatically charged 18% no matter how poor the customer service is. Asheville has got lots of good BBQ places, so I'd advise going elsewhere as I will do so from now on. The food is good I will give it that- after you quit tasting the wooden disposable utensils. I felt back in elementary school eating ice-cream with a wooden paddle. Beware the knife can't cut melted butter much less their sausage. Worst why would I ever eat at a restaurant with NO patron restroom!!!! Last night my husband and I grabbed a rack of ribs, some pulled pork, and one of just about every side for dinner. The ribs were delicious, and all the sides were great too. Could not be more disappointed. The food took too long which would be ok if it was worth it. I could literally go to a grocery store and buy the pre-made slaw, beans and pulled chicken in ready to go tubs and it would taste the same. Mediocre. My spouse got the brisket and said it was just ok. About 2-3 hours later, he vomited the brisket. He had not felt bad all day and recovered slowly the next day. I wish I could give Webo's more stars. We are from FL and just stopped due to the reviews but I really wasn't expecting it to be so great. I had the brisket and my husband had the rib, his ribs were tender and meaty with great taste. We both had collards and they were perfect from my southern childhood. I found this place by accident one day while shopping for furniture. It was lunch time, and whenever I get a chance to eat BBQ I take it. They only let one person in the place at a time to order due to covid, then you wait outside for them to bring your food to the picnic table. I appreciate the fact that they are serious about the health of their customers. Since it was my first time there, it took a bit for me to decide on what to order. The staff was patient and kind, and I fortunately was not holding anyone else up. I ordered a two meat meal, and when they brought the food out I was impressed by how tender and juicy it was. I also enjoyed the sides I ordered. I don't know who does the smoking, but they know what they are doing. Some local Q joints serve dry and stringy meat, but these folks do it right! Ok, so we have a lot of great BBQ places in Asheville....it's no secret. But Webo's takes the cake. I personally love the sweet and spicy sauce but to tell you the truth, the shredded pork doesn't even need sauce. I've actually never eaten at the location (only ordered out). I'm not a huge fan of corn bread or random rolls so Webo's hits my soft spot with their focaccia bread?? (Or tastes similar to that) I think that's what it is?? It's soooo good!! Webo's is not located downtown but if you are vacationing in Asheville, I'd highly recommend heading over to Oakley to try some of this deliciousness. I'd even recommend grabbing it to go and taking it across the street to highland brewery. It's where all the local east ashevillians get their Friday night meals. I love having webos in the neighborhood because they KNOW their barbecue and because they are super friendly. It's a win win. read more

Black Bear BBQ is in a corner of shopping center in East Asheville & would be easy to overlook but it shouldn't be!!! I stopped in and ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs to take home. I asked Donna at the cash register what sides were good and on her suggestion got broccoli casserole. I was low on gas so my 2nd side was baked beans ! I got a side of Brunswick stew for the long ride home. Ribs are tremendous!!!! As was the Brunswick stew, broccoli casserole & baked beans. I'll be going back I'm sure ! read more
