    Corned Beef Hash (280 cals.)
    Rayne U.

Breakfast around 9am on a Thursday morning. Greeted & seated quickly. Dining room fairly busy. Quaint & comfortable lodging type seating. Corned beef hash with fruit & biscuit option. Corned beef was homemade with chunks of onions. Not the most flavorful, but texture was interesting. Courteous service. Interesting menu printed on newspaper type paper.

    Vegetarian Omelette (400 cals.)

Food wasn't bad so I'll definitely be back! There were a few micro charges that we didn't even think about when ordering (whipped cream on milkshake, 0.50 or some odd cents for tartar sauce) but otherwise it was a very pleasant experience. As someone who usually hates sauerkraut the Reuben was actually enjoyable which was a surprise to me. The place really captures the diner feel inside and out, I'm excited to try different menu options in the future.

As you walk in you are taken back to the 50's , from the floors to the decor. They have various booth style and table seating options. The staff were very friendly. We were seating quickly. They have a very ample menu. I was a little taken back by the pricing of the breakfast. Most meals were over 12 dollars, some standard meals as much as 24 dollars for a breakfast. I ordered a scrambled, it had eggs, veggies, cheese and potato's and jalapeños. It was a very large portion of food. My son had a pancake with eggs and bacon, he did not eat the rest of his bacon he said it had an odd taste. I would share that they have a huge menu with many options. The food quality was ok, probably not be back but it seems like they have a good following of customers.

You can get them all over North Dakota and Minnesota, but I haven't found them very often here in Oregon. They don't just have orange juice, they have the good orange juice. He finally notices me after I wave at him and he seats me and touches the prongs of the fork as he puts it on the table. He at least got me a cup of coffee. Server takes my order rather hurriedly, food comes at a reasonable a time, but I'm hunting for blueberries and the cakes are fairly raw in the center. But I know I'll never see my server again as she threw the food down and walked away, even though my coffee cup was empty. The cakes were so bitter and metallic tasting, and I tried three of the four. They all tasted horrible. I go to pay, leaving everything on my table, and I tell the host the food was horrible. Crickets. Again, I say, the food was horrible. No response, just a blank stare. What a waste of time and money.

When we moved to Oregon, it was under construction but we kept hearing how good it was - in fact, all the local FB pages would gush about it when a newcomer would ask about the best restaurant. And once it finally opened, we tried it, but it was kind of like Marie calendars and Shari's, but local. Ok, but not what we had expected for all the hype. So, after trying a handful of options it seemed Bannings was the only place we could still get breakfast so I begrudgingly agreed. Well, I was mistaken! I got the breakfast enchiladas and a strawberry orange mimosa. Now, the mimosa - I'll get that out of the way first. It was weird - it looked curdled. It just had mashed strawberry at the bottom and it actually was quite good. I'd do a normal mimosa in the future, but good. But the enchiladas - delicious. Like, I'll come back again and again for those. And they didn't charge me extra for the avocado, which I think is righteous because I asked for no hash browns. But not all places would do that, they'd nickel and dime even if you passed on one side for another. Additionally; my husband likes a savory breakfast and a sweet one too - so he often gets two breakfasts and though he may not eat all of both he gets that savory and sweet. Well, the omelettes come with 3 pancakes. Perfection. And, I took 3 bites of them - I usually might try 1 or not at all - they are very very good. Last - it did not break the bank. I've about ruled out breakfast out because of how crazy expensive the places that should be reasonable are. This was reasonable - PLEASE DONT CHANGE!! All in all 5 stars, will be back for breakfast; and hey - when I'm wrong I can admit I was wrong! Give them a try if you haven't!

The last couple times I've visited Portland, my local friend has dragged me along here, and it has been quite satisfying each time. Nothing terribly fancy or nuanced about this joint. Just good food in a family-style diner kind of atmosphere. The Belgian Waffle is always a good choice, in my book. But they have plenty of breakfast scrambles and platters, too. And the burgers here are pretty darn good. But if you are at all in the mood, definitely try their pies. You see them right by the door, tempting you as soon as you walk in. And while my friend can vouch how their Pumpkin Pie is legendary (especially around the autumn holidays), I can say with certainty you want to try their Key Lime Pie! Prices are pretty decent for the portions you get. And service is generally very friendly and prompt, though they can get a little backed up on weekend mornings. Parking is also typically easy. And if the weather is nice, I would recommend taking a seat out on the patio. So yeah, nothing fancy, which is sometimes what you really need. This has become one of our most frequented breakfast stops when visiting PDX, and I can definitely forsee returning.
