I had important business to conduct in Daly City, so I tried this location by phone to have my order to go. Unfortunately after several try's I gave up realizing it was their opening time. I went directly to them a bit hot under the collar because time was of the essence. Tito Perez, the supervisor and only person there was very apologetic. He went to check the phone which I asked him should I call from my phone. Oops, it's turned down. Duh. But my focus didn't waver. I ordered my breakfast and decided since it was completely empty, I'd do my paperwork there before my meeting. Tito was amazing. He gave me a free cup of Java for the imposition and four minutes later I had the best breakfast I'm accustomed to from this renowned franchise. Sure I was the only customer but people were filing in and yet he kept checking on me. I was grateful and said everything was perfect, and it was. The ham was perfect: thick and juicy. Bacon was also thick and , well bacon, cooked to perfection. French toast was laid out like it was for a magazine. In fact, the whole breakfast that came in two separate dishes and the main dish was garnished with lettuce and a slice of orange. I can be picky but not today. I went to the restroom and was pleasantly impressed how well it was designed and very clean. I can't tell you what it would look like at 1:00pm, but I was happy with what I saw. I took what I didn't eat because I bought the Grizzly, two eggs, hash browns, two sausages, two slices of bacon and the steak ham. And my ultimate favor--Two thick slices of French toast. I was a very satisfied customer and I can't tell be a tough sell but not today. He and the cook were outstanding. The service may change with a full house but the genuine hospitality I was shown shines through. I'm sending a personal review to the company because this type an empathy is priceless. This diner chain serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day, and you'll find all of your comfort food classics on the menu! We started with the house salad, a simple but fresh mixture of romaine, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes. My pick from the "Carving Station" section of the dinner menu was the Santa Maria Tri-Tip, a plate of tri-tip seasoned with garlic, black pepper, salt, and parsley, served with green beans stewed with bacon. The thick slices of tri-tip were slightly tough but went really nicely with the bottled Black Bear habanero hot sauce that came on the side! But I couldn't visit pay a visit to this diner without trying one of their breakfast items too--an order of "biscuits with gravy" came with two gigantic homemade biscuits topped with cream gravy. The "biscuits" were relatively lean and more like large dinner rolls than traditional flaky biscuits, but they had a nice crusty exterior that stood up to the gravy. Not the best biscuits I've had, but tasty nonetheless! The service has gotten so slow, probably impacted by being short staffed, but it's bad. They take on more tables than the can handle. We watched three separate parties get seated, wait for a loooooong time for a server to talk to them, and then ultimately walk out without ordering. Honestly, we would have done the same except we had luckily gotten our order in pretty quickly... it just took an hour to get our order brought to the table. It's not just that service has gotten slower, though. The food itself was gotten lower quality. My buddy ordered chicken pot pie made fresh no less, the smell and taste was incredible! My other friend ordered the cheeseburger salad and scooped that down. I ordered the crispy chicken ranch and that was yummy! They were sadly out of the berry cobbler so my friends got the apple cobbler and they comped me the cheesecake I ordered instead! Honestly, if you understand and accept these three criteria, you'll have a decent time (and meal) at Black Bear.
