So sad that this place closed. It was my favorite breakfast spot in San Bruno. It was a place frequented by locals. The staff knew everyone. Some of them I have know for over a decade. It was my pie place on Thanksgiving. Now all of that is gone. I hope something else comes up in its place. It is in a great location overlooking highway 280 and National Military Cemetary. God this place is a dump! I found a gift card and went in to see how much was on it. Now I haven't been here since my last review because it was horrible then, nothing has changed. Walking in you can smell this dank, nasty, almost mildewed smell. The pie case is the saddest thing for a pie shop. It's not lit, it had only two pies, and doesn't even look refrigerated. The waitress went tot grab the manager who proceeded to tell me my card was no good anymore. Apparently new owners. Also apparent was that this place should be closed down and reopened with a new restaurant in place. As a local it's sad because this spot had some great restaurants. Restaurant is located in a quiet area near a residential area. It was quiet in the restaurant as well. I think there are nice views during the day but at night you can't see much out the windows. We came to get the prime rib which is available Friday-Sunday after 2pm. It was $26 as of a few months ago (mid 2025). The slice wasn't huge but it was pretty tasty and juicy and you get to choose 2 sides. Very solid for prime rib, 4 stars. We also had the country fried steak and that was just ok as some parts were chewy and fatty. Some of the pie are seasonal so not everything on the menu was available. read more

Visited for the first time this week on a beautiful day. We sat by the window booths with views overlooking San Bruno. Service could have been better but we were chilling and enjoying the views. We were asked to seat ourselves so we weren't given any menus, so when a server came by a few minutes later asking what we wanted to drink, we didn't have a chance to see what they offered. Food was mid and basic, but we did appreciate their extensive menu options. We didnt try their pies and maybe that's where the real magic is for Shari's. We ordered: App: - Chicken Quesidilla, came with a side of salsa and sour cream Mains: - 8oz Steak* & Eggs*: Hash Browns * Buttermilk Pancakes (2) * Medium Rare * Sunny Side Up (2) ... steak was tender and pink in the middle but bland - Meat Lover's Skillet: Buttermilk Pancakes (2) * Hash Browns * Over Easy (2) ... not served on a skillet and not very hot where even the shredded cheese wasn't melted. Pancakes were fluffy and good. Drinks: - Fresh Ground Coffee (*was watery) - Lemonade Like other reviewers mentioned, the place unfortunately had a noticeable off-putting smell coming from the men's restrooms by the entrance that trickled into the dining areas which is a shame knocking down my rating to 2 stars. At first glance in writing this review, I saw it had a 3.5 rating which seems low in accordance to my experience. I've been to a couple Shari's locations, mostly up in the northern parts of California and have always had a positive experience and impression. This particular spot was no different and in fact, have not enjoyed a Shari's more than this one location. The premises are great, yeah, a bit dated, but clean and the views from here are spectacular. It is an easy on & off place from the freeway in a not too congested part of town. The service was spot on and the food that me and my buddy had was good. Seriously, there was nothing to complain about. And so to those who expected more from a chain restaurant, I don't know what you were envisioning, but I think you'd have to recalibrate your expectations. These folks did a great job with our food, efficient service and providing a good atmosphere. I'd definitely put this place on my regular rotation now that my friend introduced me to it. I haven't been here in a long time, today I went with my parents. The place hasn't changed at all. Decor and dining area still looked the same. Our waitress sat us within minutes. It wasn't too busy but it seemed like she was the only one working. We ordered: 1. Meatlover's skillet - It looked like it had been left a little too long. Sausage and hashbrowns were burnt. With all the meats it was a little too salty for me. I only received 1 slice of toast and they cut it in half. Sourdough toast was nice and fluffy. 2. Small breakfast country fried steak - It was a good portion and country fried steak was crunchy. Gravy tasted sour. 3. Small breakfast denver omelette - My dad enjoyed this with the pancakes. 4. Orange juice - Tasted like it was watered down but it had some pulp. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. My parents thought it was pretty reasonably priced. Shari's is an institution. We went from going here in the middle of the night for pies and burgers to waking up early beating traffic. My friends and I decided to come here for a random weekday morning. We were seated pretty quickly and the hostess was hella nice. The restaurant wasn't too busy and it was nice being able to talk as loud as we want while just enjoying the company. This place might have been a great little diner back in the 1970's. Starting with the smell on entering the lobby, quite like a public urinal. There were maybe 2 kinds of pie in the front display counter. This display looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in days/weeks? The seating was lumpy, worn and taped orange pleather and not aligned with the table , wider space at the edge and narrow space next to the filthy windows. My advice? I went on a quiet evening. I requested to sit in the back with the larger parties, because I was waiting for someone who was with the larger party. I got mostly amazing service! My meal was served exactly the way I requested. My drink refills were a bit slow, but they came quickly when I was able to request them. Came here in a late Friday evening around 8:30. Got seated right away. Server was decent. Was not a classy place but was clean well lit. He told us about the off menu special. Food was decent, at the right temperature and appropriately seasoned. The whole experience was a good solid three to four star. Portions were decent. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing really special to write home about. I've only had the pies at Shari's so far. But the pies are about on par with Nation's and Marie Callender's. The prices are reasonable at $5.xx for a slice and $16.99 for whole pie. I've tried the chocolate cream pie which tastes like the jello chocolate pudding. The strawberry rhubarb is on the sour side. The pumpkin cream pie is good. A more creamy pumpkin pie. The lemon meringue was mainly all cream The lemon sour cream was probably the best out of all the pies along with the pumpkin I went on 3 separate occasions during holidays and the service was really nice. Sad to give only one star. I stopped by to pick up a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie. Which I usually love from Shari's. First thing that went wrong, was the very strong smell of urine as I approached the front door. Second thing, as I open the front door and step inside, I was hit with an awful smell of dirty, gross, old restaurant. It was so gross, the place needs a serious cleaning, and remodeling. That kind of dirty smell cannot be removed by just cleaning. Third issue, there was not slices of pie. Only 3 options of full pies. Very sad. Fourth issue, the restaurant was empty. I saw one server, one table with guest. No one greeted me, no one at the counter, nothing. I was grateful no one greeted me, because I turned around and walked out. The experience was so very gross, sad and disappointing. I grew up in the area and have loved getting pie there (baker's square and Shari's). Sad to see. Hopefully they can get their act together or sell so someone new can come in and open up a shop that sells amazing yummy pies to the community again. read more

I get the steak salad w/extra dressing, hold the onions. The hub gets the prime rib w/seasoned veggies & potatoes. We know the place needs a lot of TLC, but with great service & good food, we make an exception to come here often. Don't eat here. Food is not good and building is very old and needs repairs. They used to have great home made pies that we would buy for Thanksgiving. This year, however, I ordered a strawberry rhubarb pie and a chocolate cream pie. They gave me a cherry pie and a store bought chocolate creme pie with the brand wrapper still on the pie. Also, the pies were not good. Also also, when I ordered the pies I was told I could purchase a slice of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving day. They said they would have plenty. I've been coming to Shari's since it was called Bakers Dozen. It's our local diner that's open till late. The food isn't that great to be honest. The breakfast menu is pretty standard and most of the food is average. I've also been here for late night and ordered the nachos and burgers. It's not great but there aren't many places around the area that are open late, so it does the trick. BUT Shari's has great pies and pie shakes. Pie shakes are milkshakes with a whole slice of pie blended in. Our favorite is banana cream pie. The prices are reasonable as well! read more

Honestly not a bad choice for food -- I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast Standard which came with hashbrowns, pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Hashbrowns and bacon were too salty and the pancakes and eggs were bland. It's what you would expect for a diner but if I wanted to save money, I could've made something similar or even better at home. What made this visit such a bad experience is the service. Our server had such a sour attitude. She didn't answer questions we had about some of the dishes and just walked away, even though we asked multiple times. When she brought our plates, she was almost slamming them on the table. She also never came by to ask us how our food was, which is completely fine, but when she came to give us our check she stood beside our table and watched as we signed/added the tip. While we were on our way out, she handed our receipt back and explained that she wanted us to tip her more because they split tips between all the employees at the diner including the busboys, kitchen staff, etc. We already tipped 15% too and she didn't even make an effort to make our dining experience decent. Asking for more when you are barely doing the bare minimum is embarrassing. This was the worst experience I've ever had eating at a restaurant. It's really disappointing because our previous experience here we had a really great server. Will not be coming back. read more

We go to Shari's for the pies, formerly known as Baker's Square a long time ago. But Shari's now. And still the same inside after all this time--id say about 30 years. Let me confirm Kenneth R.'s experience: the pies have left the building. The display and refrigerated cases were barren when I ate at Shari's on 10/22/24. I came in for nostalgia's sake, knowing that all Shari's locations in Oregon had suddenly closed due to financial woes. I was one of two dine-in customers for the duration of my visit. There was one server and one cook that I could see. The emptiness of the joint was a little eerie - ironic given it's the Halloween season. The menu - which used to be 4-6 pages in length - has been reduced to one double-sided page: breakfast fare on one side, lunch/dinner on the other. The server was cheerful and attentive. My breakfast - the Farmer's Breakfast Standard, with two pancakes, two eggs, four sausage links and hash browns - was delicious. It was a good experience for what I figured would be my last meal at Shari's. I thought of asking my server about the San Bruno location's immediate prospects, but decided not to rub salt in the wound. Rest in Pie, Shari's. You were a cut above Denny's and IHOP. While on a visit to Billings, we randomly decided to pop into Shari's Cafe for lunch. They're apparently a chain, and I have no idea if this is true of other locations, but this particular one serves breakfast only on Sundays. There was a bit of a wait to get in, but not too bad, and we were seated in a standard cafe set up. It reminded me a lot of place from the 1960s or so, with an "old fashioned" feel and vibe to it. Our waiter wasn't the most attentive, but honestly, he had like 93 tables -- they seemed a bit short staffed. I ordered the crepes with huckleberries, something that seemed to be on every menu in the area, but I hadn't tried before. I'm not sure I can tell them apart from good blueberries, but that might just be me. The crepes had a large amount of cheese in the middle, which muddled the fruit flavours a bit too much for my taste, but overall, not bad. The front area of the restaurant features their "and pies" section, and is kind of a pick up and go bakery. I didn't see a lot in the way of pies at this particular one, though they were overflowing with sticky buns, gigantic and covered with copious amounts of frosting. read more

I came here for Pi day because who doesn't love pie on Pi day! To my surprise, when I yelped places for pie not many were open late except this one. I did come here at 8pm tho so it wasn't truly late. This location is kind of hidden right next to the gas station. Parking was relatively easy. I ordered for pick up via their online website. I ordered the banana cream pie, peanut butter chocolate silk, and the Marionberry pie for my friends and I to share. It stated it would take approximately 20 minutes for pick up. I arrived at the time it stated and it was quite busy inside. Everyone definitely had the same idea of getting pie. It was a little confusing on where to pick up the order because they have registers on both sides of the pie display case and a stand for people to be seated. I ended up just flagging someone down and asking where to pick up the order. Unfortunately they were out of banana cream pie :/. So, I opted for the strawberry rhubarb instead. As I waited for the man to help me get my order ready, I noticed the interior was definitely very old. Like old diner feels and it's very unfortunate that the front door area where the pies are were right by the bathrooms because it definitely had some odor coming from there as I stood there and waited. Hopefully, it was more of a off day for them because it was so busy, or else that's kind of unsanitary... Now for the pie slices... recap ("out of banana cream pie" per the worker) so in the bag it should be: peanut butter chocolate silk, marionberry pie and strawberry rhubarb. Well to my surprise, it was actually: banana cream pie, the marionberry pie and strawberry rhubarb. Kind of happy to get the banana cream but super sad that there was not peanut butter chocolate silk because it seems like that is what they are known for. Banana Cream ($4.79): to be honest, just a standard piece. No frills and just a classic piece. my friend said that it was just like the one at Safeway... so I guess this is just average then. Marionberry ($4.29) : tastes like a mix between raspberry and blackberry. A little tart and not very sweet. The crust was nice and buttery but not too much that it felt oily. Presentation was okay, because these types of pies break easily. Strawberry Rhubarb ($3.99): a bit sour, but we did appreciate the chunks of strawberries (these were sweet) inside. Usually it's more of a cream without bites. You can tell it's not frozen strawberries. Since I had to swap pies: I spent $1 more since the peanut butter chocolate pie was $4.99 and I didn't get a price adjustment. Go to Nation's and pay a few dollars more for a REAL banana cream pie! Shari's website says their contact page is under construction.
