I hadn't been to a Black Bear Diner in many years, so I was excited to try this location for breakfast, after a fantastic night at the Air BnB Haunted Mansion house, in Fullerton. Our server was fantastic. I wish I could remember her name, but she had a Star Wars tattoo on her arm. She was positive and had a fantastic memory. My friends all ordered the Bear's choice, some opting for pancakes, some going for biscuits and gravy. I requested the corned beef hash, with grits. The corned beef was not quite what i was expecting. It was a shredded corned beef, rather than the canned type corned beef that I expected. The shredded corned beef, however, was super dry and not that flavorful. I added some hot sauce to it for some moisture and flavor. The biscuit was huge. I ate it with some jelly and butter. The star of my breakfast, however, were the grits. They hit the spot. Again, our server was just excellent. She made for a great breakfast experience. We arrived right before a big rush of people. I can't wait to go back. Little gift shop area was geared more towards little kids. If they marketed it right, they'd make a killing with members of the gay community, just sayin'. read more

This is our second visit to this location. The first time I didn't leave a review because the food wasn't great but it wasn't inedible either. Today, we ordered two cheeseburgers, one with fries no salt, dry mustard on side, and the other burger with grilled onions and coleslaw. The fries had salt and were as limp as a, well, an old wet dishrag. The mustard was missing. The other burger had raw not grilled onions. Both burgers were way overcooked. And the cheese was some nondescript, flavorless, shredded something. It looked like fake/cheap Parmesan. Two stars because we ate the food instead of asking for a re-do. But this one is by far the best I've been too, everyone working here is phenomenal like I said the food delicious no matter what you get, the service always friendly, and it's always so clean. Went in on Tuesday night with a friend and got the worst service ever. Food was good per usual, but the Server was rude, not attentive at all. No good at all. Other than breakfast, this restaurant is not that great. My family and I went on a Sunday afternoon. You would think it would be packed, but there was not soul on site; literally my family and Myself. I got the club sandwich which came with soggy fries, my wife got the crispy chicken sandwich which had too much honey mustard? And My kids both the watery fettuccine which tasted bland. It has been a super unfortunate experience the passed couple of times I've visited black bear diner. While eating there I unfortunately witnessed what I believe to be a buster but was apparently the cook arguing with another guest about cleaning a table. It put a damper on my dinning experience. It was extremely unprofessional and there was no manager in site to mediate the situation. Another incident that occurred was while my mother visited. She explained to me that there was a worker carrying her, what looked to be a one year old baby while working. She said that the lady was wearing a green sweater and also noticed a child that seemed to be about 10-12 years old laying down where the fountain sodas get poured. An employee shouldn't be bringing in their children to work it's not safe for the child to be laying around where other workers, if not visible can trample over the child as well as having the baby in arms with hot plates serving guest. Not to forget to mention they were also vaping inside the restaurant. After the unbelievable incident my mother said she called letting me know that she spoke with someone in charge to hopefully resolve the issue of the extremely unprofessional worker. I was unaware of how much the policy's have changed at black bear dinner but I will not be going back to this location. It's a complete mad house and lawsuit waiting to happen! read more

I love this place. I love the food. The service is awesome! Except for this morning when the employee that looks like the Teen from Agatha All Along decided to sit my gf and I after this couple that showed up after us. The couple even mentioned "they were here before us" and then says "yeah I'll help them after I help you guys" Maybe you can get a haircut to hear your customers better I don't know. That's weird customer service dude. Or maybe more customer service training. Other than that the waitresses are amazing big smiles and very energetic. Making this place feel like home. I live closer to the location next to Knotts but we rather come here. This location feels more like a diner than the knotts location. read more

If you have never experienced the food and service at Blackbear diner in fullerton, I highly recommend it. There is a home atmosphere to that place. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Whether it's your first time or you've been coming there for years. We love the Bear decorations and references all around the restaurant. There are some items you can purchase while you're waiting for your table to be ready. Our favorite time to go is breakfast or brunch after church. For us we don't have any favorites on the menu. Everything we've had for breakfast has been delicious from the steak & eggs to the omelets. Not to mention the fluffy biscuits & gravy. We like this restaurant, but last night was a miss. We were seated at an out of the way table, and we're forgotten. I ordered medium rare beef, but it was overcooked and not medium rare. I have to say that this is true at nearly every diner I go to. Each meal normally includes cornbread, but they were out of it. I ordered tri-tip, and they had just enough to cover my reduced-size order. The strangest thing was that the menu said the mashed potatoes were topped with country gravy, but it was actually served with beef gravy. I thought maybe they were out of country gravy, but I was told that, for beef meals, they automatically add beef gravy. So, why put country gravy on the menu? And why not ask the customer first? Their beef gravy is better than most diners, but it wasn't what I was expecting when I ordered it. I must say that the staff was wonderfully pleasant and helpful. We will return again, hoping for a great meal like we have been served in the past. read more

Expected much better food quality than Denny's based on many wonderful reviews, only to be disappointed by the subpar food and lack of cleanliness (food crumbs and tissues camping all over on the floor). For a Saturday morning, the parking lot was super packed - probably due to the location of the Martial Arts Academy and Ralphs. 2-Egg Combo All 2-egg classic combos come with 2 eggs* any style (130-170 cals.) plus a housemade biscuit (460 cals.). Choose one: strip-cut hash browns (380 cals.), country red potatoes (330 cals.), creamy grits (200 cals.), fresh fruit (70 cals.) Corned Beef Hash (280 cals.) w/ 2 over easy eggs, 1 pancake, and country red potatoes $12.29 Slow-roasted, corned beef brisket, shredded then griddle-fried with potatoes I phoned in a to-go order and it would be ready in about 20 minutes. While waiting, I ended up going to Ralph's for a few items. The parking got better 20 mins later and I was able to park way closer to Black Bear Diner than previously, which would have been all the way down the further Ralph's entrance. I love a good Corned Beef Hash and the one at Black Bear Diner is way different than other restaurants because they use actual corned beef, not canned. We love corned beef and always cook it a few times a year, so I was excited to try this dish. Of course, with it being actual corned beef, it was very tough and overly salty. The over easy egg was cooked perfectly. The country red potatoes were okay, too al dente for me - a bit undercooked and some of the pieces also included some rotted areas (black). It was disappointing because I love country potatoes. There were a few whole peppercorns in the dish as well that were not ground. The best part of the dish were the eggs and the oh so fluffy pancake. They did charge a packaging fee of $0.49. Overall, the restaurant was back to a full dining room, with lots of patrons waiting outside for a table inside. Customer service was good, not much interaction for me besides phoning in the order and paying for my meal. Solid 4 stars for Black Bear Diner! I don't usually choose chains, but husband has been here with his parents for breakfast a few times in years past, and he always liked it. Now that delivery is the norm, he had ordered breakfast for dinner one night when I was out. I came home and tried his pancakes. Not a huge pancake fan, but they were very tasty! Super fluffy and not too sweet. Also their breakfast potatoes are great!! Last week I left dinner up to him one night and he asked if we could have Black Bear. Sure. I didn't want breakfast though, so I got the Parmesan Sourdough Cheeseburger, since a Patty Melt sounded good. They didn't have one, but this was close enough. I got onion rings as my side. The Parmesan Sourdough Cheeseburger was AWESOME! It was like a Patty Melt, but BETTER. It was so juicy and delicious! The bread was fantastic! Their onion rings were perfect. This time he got a waffle, and it was "just OK" according to him. It wasn't crisp, i'm sure due to being delivered. I've been coming the Black Bear Diner now for a few years in a row to enjoy their birthday breakfast. You get a choice of waffles or pancakes which also includes a side of eggs and bacon or sausage. All free. For your birthday! But you gotta sign up first. This is my first time at the Fullerton location. I normally go to Buena Park by I just moved here and this location is literally walking distance. We decided to show up a little before 8am on a Sunday. Great choice since there was zero wait. Well sorta, we kinda stood at the front for some time till a hostess finally showed up. She was super nice and greeted us as she got to the front and were finally sat down after 5 minutes or so. I decided to go with the waffle breakfast with scrambled eggs and one sausage and one bacon. I did not care for the bacon. Felt soggy and undercooked. I didn't want to complain since it was just piece of bacon and my entire meal was already free. I just told myself next time get the sausage only! That was good. The waffle was just ok in my opinion. It had a good flavor but also ended up being too soft for my liking. I like a bit of crispness to the waffle. I've had these before at the BP location and no complaints there. Coffee was also too light for my taste buds. I might give this place one more shot but it looks like I'll just make the drive to BP in the future. read more

I ended up getting french toast and bacon with sunny side up. It was pretty good. My friends got the Denver omelette and chicken strips. They seemed to like it. Was it the best? No. Was it good? Yes.
