Inside the restaurant is a cute cabin/lodge themed decor. The pancakes are large, soft, and thick! This was my first time trying chicken sausage links and though they were slightly chewy and tough, I enjoyed the flavor since they balanced out the sweet pancakes. What a hearty breakfast! I knew that if I wanted to grab a very substantial breakfast with the kids, Black Bear Diner I on the top of the list. I have been sparingly in a Black Bear Diner all across California throughout the years and I vividly remember that I always left the diner with a full tummy. I had a Chicken Fried Steak, with over easy eggs and biscuits and gravy on the side. In a very kidde move, both Abi and Jacob had Chicken Tenders for breakfast. =) Man that fried steak was really delicious; equally succulent and crunchy. Their biscuits and gravy is humungous to boot! The kids tenders were on point as well. Perfect well seasoned crunch with a moist tender chix inside just like my country steak. The onion rings that Abigail had for her tenders was so good as well, never did the batter waiver and let the precious onion loose. I am so very disappointed in Black Bear. The prices have gone up and the food portions have gone down. Even the kids meals are supposed to come with free Ice cream which all the kids wanted and I had to ask for it our waitress wasn't even going to offer it instead she was trying to hurry us up I stead. FYI don't order the burgers they taste horrible and cost a fortune. They don't even make fresh patties anymore the serve the frozen patties not even a good quality! Overall bad food experience. I've previously reviewed the Black Bear Diner, and it's my favorite breakfast spot of all time. The Oakley location was next in the Bucket List. I was not disappointed and I was excited to come here for my Birthday, with my mother's presence. We were immediately seated, and our waitress was attentive the whole way. I ordered the Waffle Combo, with a coffee. My mother went with a Heavyweight option, in the form of steak and eggs. The wait was about 15 minutes, but it was great time for me and my mother to catch up and converse. The location was quite busy for a Thursday morning, but that made the ambiance excellent. As the pictures speak, the food was perfect; my birthday dinner was just what I expected. First, I could say the service is horrible. We had a big Latin guy taking our order. He did not bear to ask us if we needed anything. After taking our order we ordered steaks medium. It all came super dry. Tri-tip was dry New York steak was super dry pot roast if it wasn't for the gravy would be dry as well. I won't come back. I bring a family of six and left disappointed. I hope the big guy realized why he had zero dollars as a tip. read more

I went on Monday memorial day at 11:30 am with my 94 yr old mother in a wheel chair. Waiting to be seated 4 young ladies came after us help me with the door also waiting to be seated, a young waitress came and was going to seat us down when the mother of the young lady came passed me and my mother at the time a young man came up to me to say hello was there also eating, the lady heard me speaking Spanish. The mother yelled at the daughter and her we where next in line but the mother shouted and told the waitress family of 4 and they where seated before us that was there waiting, this has never happened to us I always take my grandkids there. I complained to the waitress nothing was done only an apology I did not see the waitress tell the manager, I did not say nothing due to respect to my mother I could had recorded with phone and blast on social media. I must admit that this was the best service I've ever received at a black bear diner! I stopped going to Black Bear Diners because of a poor experience at had at the Daly City, Ca location but this location restored my faith in this company. Every single person was so sweet and kind plus willing to lend a hand even if they weren't our server. I came out of the bathroom and needed a napkin. I was immediately helped and then some else came over a few seconds later to ensure I was helped. Our server and shame on me for not getting her name was the sweetest thing! My fiancée ordered a latte with whipped cream. I asked my fiancée for some and the server said I'll get you your own. I said oh no it's okay. And she brought it anyway. Then I used it for my pancakes which made them 10 times better. So sweet of her. She was so thoughtful couldn't have asked for a better service! For the service alone, I would give 10 stars if I could. For the food, I was a little disappointed. My fiancée enjoyed her chicken fried steak however she noticed the size had drastically shrunk. My omelette was not made with real eggs which through me off especially since I was sharing with my toddler. Also Black Bear Diner owners - a California omelette should have bacon. "I really want breakfast for lunch." My boyfriend said "you know there's a word for that, right?" And so it was, that we found ourselves at Black Bear Diner on a Sunday afternoon. Around 2 pm there was a 10 minute wait for a party of 2 but it seemed like quite a few larger parties had a longer wait. Service was amazing-seriously the friendliest restaurant staff I've interacted with in recent memory. Our server came by several times to check on us and happily accommodated some customizing of our order. I got the veggie omelette with egg whites and no cheese. It comes with potatoes and either a pancake, biscuit or toast. I opted for the pancake and as you can see from my pics, it's a lot of food! I had plenty of leftovers. Quality is far superior to other chain breakfast spots and my omelette was full of chopped veggies and the pancake was light and fluffy to perfection. It was the perfect brunch on a cold rainy Sunday. This location is huge with the typical "bear" decor and rustic feel. I've been to other Black Bear locations and this is by far the best one from service to the layout to the quality of the food. I'll be back! read more
