This was our first foray into the new Rancho Cucamonga location. Having experienced the Tempe, AZ location only a few weeks ago, my expectations for the same level of excellent service were already set. This new location exceeded expectations in a very good way. To begin, even with the popularity and 30 min wait time, the staff were responsive and friendly to every person checking in and looking for updates. No attitude and plenty of smiles. Once seated, we were surprised and excited to see one of our favorite servers was working here. We first encountered Mario at a local restaurant and went there on several occasions to experience his exceptional service. Unaware of his move to the Black Bear Diner, it made our day to see his joyful smile walking up to our table. As expected, he worked his section like a pro and moved from table to table taking care of all his guests. Not once did I notice anyone in the section looking for him. All smiles all around. He spent time with each table and made us feel like we were his only concern. Well done Mario! To the management at BBD. You've set this place up quite well and if you keep employees like Mario around, the crowds will continue long past the novelty of a new place to eat. Everything sounds like it will be large portions but a mc double would have larger than the bigger I got . The pancake I received was colder than the cold butter it came with and the size of it was no bigger than a corn tortilla. I ordered the chicken pesto pasta. The food was cold, pasta over cooked, and the chicken was dry. The food had no flavor at all. Adding salt and pepper just made it worst. Although the food was horrible, the server preslee was amazing. She was very attentive and timely. She made sure our party of 15 was well taken care of. Delicious! We popped in for Sunday breakfast after church... waited about 10 min for a table. The food came out within 10 minutes of placing our order and it was delicious. The service was excellent. I got my salad and it was fresh and enough dressing and big enough. My wife got the chicken pot pie and liked the veggies and chicken. I ordered the chicken and avocado club sandwich and the about half the bread was toasted but it had too much mayo and the sandwich was soggy. There was enough chicken and avocado but the soggy bread not toasted and too much mayonnaise made it less than appealing. I had the same sandwich at the black bear on Mountain ave in Chino and the sandwich perfect. I will probably be going back to Rancho and hope it will be better next time since it is closer to where I live. This sandwich should come with pickle spears. read more

Simply delicious!! The breakfast plates were hot when we got them and highly recommended the biscuits and gravy! The pancakes have a distinct but yummy taste of their own recipe with sweet cream. This is my 4th time at BBD, 1st time for dinner. The food is always consistently good. Went tonight 7/16/21 at approx 6pm - they were pretty busy and it appears short staffed. There were 3 waiters, 2 males 1 female(but I believe one of the male waiters was meant to be a host but started waiting tables due to shortage)... anyways aside from the food being good, the 5 stars is for the waiters all of them had such positive attitudes!!! We didn't hear a single complaint. The teamwork was exemplary. All 3 would check on each other's tables and refill drinks, sit new guests and ring people out. Fantastic job guys!!! My only regret is not getting their names. Definitely coming back! read more

The staff was great! Super friendly, extensive menu and good food. Portion size is outstanding as well. Our table ordered: tri tip dinner, a breakfast combo and fish and chips. The food was piping hot upon delivery, and we were checked on periodically to see how things were. My meal came with salad, cornbread, veggie side (I picked their Italian green beans) and macaroni and cheese. There are many choices on the menu and breakfast is always available. This place rivals Cracker Barrel, in my opinion, which seems to me has gone mainstream in their freshness and food. Also lucky that Black Bear is nearby and I don't have to drive up the hill for Cracker Barrel- which used to be a stop for nostalgia on trips as well, but just weren't happy the last few times we went. Really enjoyed our experience tonight. Went to one of their Utah locations and thought that was the only place. This chain has locations all over California, Arizona, Utah, Las Vegas and Idaho just to name a few. The food is so good, real comfort food in a homey atmosphere friendly staff. Food was out on time and hot just as ordered. The serving portions are large but they have a few dishes that come in smaller portions. I enjoyed the Chicken fried steak with red skinned mashed potatoes with gravy and, vegetables. The menu has a large breakfast selection too. We will be back. read more

I don't know how this place has 4 stars. I've been to many black bear cafes but this one has gone really downhill in the last couple years. Prices have gone up while the food quality has gone down. Service is meh, but I don't think it's the waitstaff. It feels like they are just understaffed, but also it's not busy so not sure what's happening. You can get better food for cheaper at many other local restaurants. read more

If you're interested in a delicious breakfast, this is the place. Steaks are full of fat and the mashed potatoes were a little too salty. But, I really loved the biscuits and gravy. $22 for a fat steak was a little bit of a bummer. My sister in law had the bear claw French toast and that was delicious. read more
