My fiancé and I both got a steak meal with several sides. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The steak came a bit too dark. I ordered it medium rare. Probably was a medium well. I hate to say this but the food was bad! The iceberg lettuce salad seemed like it had been accidentally frozen around the edges, plus dried up shredded carrots & 2 shriveled up cherry tomatoes. The ranch dressing was super thick like mayo. The cornbread muffin was OLD...VERY OLD and previously frozen...for a long time. Super sad about this because I'm a cornbread muffin freak. The baked potato was also OLD. It's hard to mess up a baked potato, guys. But it was hard as a rock and brownish inside, not fluffy, soft or even that hot. It had been baked many many hours before it was served. The shrimp were frozen out of a box. The prices were cheap and reflected the lack of quality. Our server, Parker, was completely incompetent. I understand that sometimes you just have a bad day, but the failure to follow simple instructions was pathetic. Micheal (sp?), one of the managers here, did his best to make things right and is an awesome dude. But seriously, even the Hispanic lady who spoke broken English did better than the punk white dude with an attitude. Get some better servers, and don't burn your gravy. It was gross. read more

Went to this location for dinner. Had the prime rib. Paid $16.99 and was disappointed in the flavor; it did not taste like prime rib. It was not what I expected from Black Bear Diner. The restaurant itself, is awesome and the service was great. We enjoyed the decorations and the pumpkin pie. My wife had the corned beef hash and eggs and she loved it. Beer, wine with good food. Oversized corn muffins served with butter and honey as your bread...wonderfully delicious! Menu overwhelming in a good way...offers breakfast, lunch or dinner ALL day. I have tried Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and found the food to be good. Been there several times and have brought friends with me that have never been there. They all say they will be back. People that works there are very friendly, service was good. Coming to this place is like a Good Old Fashion place to eat, it's like home cooking. This is our favorite place to go for breakfast (although the french dip and fries are awesome too! And the soup and salads, and the cornbread...) and part of the fun is that it's tucked back away from the main street so it's popularity is mostly from word of mouth. I'm happy to be in on this secret. The portions are huge! The staff is always friendly and attentive. My kids love the free ice cream sundaes and all the yummy toppings. They also have a guy that makes balloon animals for the kids who is amazing! He doesn't make your average sword or dog, but will make a cobra or a santa clause... you wont believe the things he comes up with! I would definitely recommend this place. Wow! After lasts night disaster with a certain Mexican spot in Sandy we heard about and decided to try Black Bear Diner. We were not disappointed. The recommendation came from a friend my wife works with and he swore by it. I ordered breakfast; bacon (thick and delicious), sweet cream pancakes, sausage, eggs, and potatoes. I have to say one of the best breakfast diners I have ever eaten at. The waitress was fun and attentive and very accommodating. The atmosphere is a diner but something you would expect in the likes of downtown Park City; rustic, open, and fun. The serving size is more than enough. My wife got the small portion of Chicken Fried Steak and had plenty to bring home. You won't be disappointed if you like breakfast any time during the day. read more

I'm pretty impressed actually after all the mixed reviews I've heard. After ordering a dinner country fried steak I was offered a barrage of options regarding sides, soups, salads, drinks SO MANY CHOICES!! and for about 10 bucks for a filling meal? Cant beat that in a laid-back country style environment like this. It was a little busy when I came in with my kids the other night but the server handled us quite well and he took good care of us. EVERYTIME my wife and I come into this Black Bear we are treated very well ! I have become very familiar with practically the entire staff. Anytime I want to treat my family or friends out to eat, it's hands down without a debate The Black Bear(Sandy) as our destination. The management in this store is what keeps us coming back. I know three of the managers on a first name basis, Dillon, Michael, and Deb are all very professional and demand top quality service from their staff for their customers. The waiting staff are the best in ALL of the Salt Lake valley as far as I'm concerned. Felisity, Sara, Caz, Rachael just to name a few are always very attentive to my parties needs. The food is always fresh, hot and made just like I ask, they are always very helpful and willing to accommodate my special request. I have introduced plenty of my friends to The Black Bear with everyone of them having been more than satisfied. The Black Bear has a very vast menu with a wide variety to please everyone's palate. The portions and HUGE and priced very reasonable. This location used to be my favorite place to eat out of everything out there. Not sure what happened but the last two times my wife and I went there, the experience has been very poor. The service was so rediculously slow, the heater on was on volcano mode - so the servers were sweating profusely, my hashbrowns were so hard they almost broke my teeth, and my chicken fried steak was burned around the edges. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Help us obi wan kenobi you're their only hope! Not going back there until they start doing things right again. I might just try another location. read more

Black Bear Diner is one of my favorite restaurants! I usually order eggs and pancakes. All food has been prepared very well. One thing I enjoy is that that their syrup comes to the table nice and warm! Their regular pancake is a sweet cream pancake, a little different and delicious! This place is nothing to rave about. It's your average diner. I had the Eggs Benedict. They weren't bad but I wouldn't say they were great either. Our server was pretty friendly but the speed of service and the time it took to get the food out was completely unacceptable. Go to the Black Bear Diner in Jordan Landing, that one is so amazing. It's what made me give this location 3 chances, I really did want to like it. The food is always meh. This time I got the pot roast. It was drowned in gravy, I think to hide the fact that it was maybe 4 bites of pot roast, AND half of that was fat. My friend's dish came with a side of veggies. Hers were cooked zucchini and squashed that looked buttery and cooked. Mine were BARELY warm, and still super crunchy, with nothing on them. Normally I'd be happy that they were drenched in fat, BUT they clearly forgot to cook them. I was going to send them back, but after not seeing anyone for 5 minutes, I just ate my mashed potatoes instead. read more

Absolutely. Terrible. Staff. Our server Michelle didn't give us a chance to sit down when she asked what we wanted to drink. When we sat down and didn't give us a moment to glance the menu and asked again in an agitated manner what we'd like a drink and we asked for a moment. Ignoring the fact we were still looking at our menus and would proceed to continue her agitated manner. She started sweeping towards people whom were eating which is disgusting. The kitchen staff were blasting music, the counter had no one present so a family went up to cash out and could have left without paying. All while our server cleaned their table rather than go cash them out. She walked right in front of another server taking an order where she could easily go around. All in all, being a former server, this experience was trash. The food was fine but the staff was awful. Hire people who care about the customers, I won't ever go back. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! I've never gone somewhere to breakfast happy and left upset. I'm an easy going person but when all you want to do is have a nice breakfast and all you get is a big side of attitude it's very easy to say I will never be back.Food was great but that's all. I've had better service at a diner down a dirt road in the middle of Nevada. Not only were 2 waitresses fighting over who's table it was but when they finally decided who's it was it seemed like an inconvenience that we were ready to order right away. Food came, I was done with my water and asked for more and when she finally came back she brought the check.. we just started eating! And no water! She said," can I get you anything else" I said yes can I please have some water with biscuit stuck the roof of my mouth.She goes. Oh psht. I kid you not. I will never go back here even though the food was good. A word to management... do some quality control. Seriously. And when I brought it up on the way out the " manager" basically said, " oh ya, she has an attitude". You know what? I guess I do to now. That's why I'm writing this. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
