Second helping of Friday's All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry!
    John P.

Four of us met at the Black Bear Diner (Sandy location) on Friday to try the "all-you-can-eat" fish fry! What a delightful treat! You start with three large pieces of delicate fish in a crispy bread coating, not greasy at all. They came with a generous pile of french fries, tartar sauce and fry sauce, and freshly made coleslaw. What's not to love! Additional servings (second and third helpings in our case) were offered cheerfully. We had an attentive waitress who quickly catered to all our requests. Delicious helpings of peppermint chocolate cream pie and blackberry cobbler completed an outstanding meal. I give the Black Bear Diner another five star review because they never fail to deliver a great experience.

Even my take-out was AMAZING! My omelette was moist, and my bacon was crispy, just like I asked for. Thanks you!!

This restaurant tries so hard and has great, attentive staff. We love coming for breakfast. They have great kid meals and generous portions, great with coffee refills, and friendly service. They remember details like condiments, kid cups, plenty of napkins and aren't bothered when you have kiddos with you. Lots of parking. There was one night we came with a large party and even though they served us well, we could tell there was some drama with short staff and one staff person seemed to bad-mouth the restaurant and then walk out (maybe was fired?) It was confusing but they still gave us a good dinner even if it took awhile. There are weekend specials and we tried the pot roast and all-you-can-eat fish fry (which is just frozen patties, just keep in mind so you're not surprised, haha) but they are good and sometimes you just want comfort dining food. Got some pie and ice cream for dessert and that was a win. We might not return for dinner but love their breakfasts and hope to see them up and running with full staff again soon.

I've had breakfast here almost every morning during my trip and lunch here once. The food is delicious and the portions are large. Even the ones marked as "little less" are still quite large. My spouse and I started ordering just one breakfast to share and it's plenty of food. Thier biscuits are the largest I've ever seen! I'd recommend the steak and eggs, the chicken fried steak and eggs, and of the sausage or bacon and eggs, or the bear's choice with pancakes. My spouse tells me the chicken and waffles was good too. Don't get grits, they are the one thing to avoid as they are watery. Join the club that there's a QR code for at thr tabke and they'll email you a code for a free breakfast. (The email takes a while to arrive so plan to use that on a second visit.) The service is friendly and efficient. It's a chain of restaurants and I hope to visit somr of thr others.

Awesome food and Gracen was awesome! Such a nice server. Good coffee too. So here is what was left of the meat lovers omelette.

It's Black Bear. Some things are better than others. We have one very close so go frequently for breakfast. We enjoy their breakfasts far more than the other meals. But we're southern so maybe their take on lunch and dinner is just different than we're used to. The portion sizes and decadent calories are available of course but they also have decent healthy options with calories right on the menu.

I had a good overall experience and would go back! The breakfast was delicious. I ordered the two egg combo with the corned beef hash which wasn't greasy at all like it can be. I do not recommend the iced cold brew. It had a very bitter taste. The orange juice is really delicious! It is freshly squeezed. The chorizo breakfast burrito was also very good!

I was craving comfort food and had visited another Black Bear Diner recently that was very good. So I thought this would be a safe bet. Not so. Service was less than stellar-our server was uninterested and mostly absent and the food was just mediocre. We were there on a Friday around 4:30, not prime time. But we felt like the staff were more annoyed at our visit than happy to have us. My pot roast had an odd flavor. I couldn't figure it out, but it was definitely different than I had experienced at another location. It came with a microwaved corn bread muffin. Odd pairing. My wife's French fries were cold. I think I'll stick with South Jordan next time.

They have something like 10 taps, lots of it is pretty nice craft beer. On Tuesdays, it's only $2! Apparently they have been offering this deal for decades! What's the catch? They are operating as a restaurant so in Utah, you are required to order food with your drinks. They do have some cheaper food options and the servers are very cool with you sharing food. I recommend getting a pizza to share! As far as the food is concerned, it's your pretty standard bar/pub food but a little bit more upscale. So, it's a good spot if you're looking for something that everyone will enjoy. Their pizzas are popular and very reasonably priced. Porcupine is also a great location for post mountain activities and right along multiple trail routes. I frequently find myself here after an intense outdoor activity, looking for air conditioning and good food. The nice thing about them operating as a restaurant is that it's kid friendly! They also have a really nice patio with a beautiful view! See you there on Tuesday!

His attitude noticeably changed after that, which immediately made us uncomfortable. We asked to share an appetizer and a meal, and it felt like we were being judged for it. Hospitality should never depend on how much you're spending or what you order.

While there were some things we enjoyed, the overall experience didn't quite justify the price. First, the restaurant is beautiful. The décor is modern, stylish, and very Instagram-worthy. It's easily one of the nicest-looking brunch spots I've visited in Utah. Unfortunately, the dining room feels overcrowded. The tables are placed extremely close together, making it difficult to have a private conversation. We often had to raise our voices just to hear each other, and even the servers seemed to struggle moving between tables. The atmosphere looked great, but it didn't feel very comfortable. The service was polite and friendly, but one thing bothered me. Shortly after we finished our main dishes, the check was brought to the table. We hadn't asked for it, and it made us feel a bit rushed, as if it was time to leave even though we were still talking with our friends. It's a small detail, but it affects the overall dining experience. For drinks, I ordered a piña colada, and unfortunately it was disappointing. It tasted overly diluted, with very little pineapple flavor, while the rum stood out much more than it should have. I also ordered the Vital Boost juice. The flavor was actually good, but it was served at room temperature, which wasn't what I expected from a fresh juice. For my meal, I ordered the breakfast burrito. It tasted good, but I couldn't justify the $20 price tag. It consisted of a thin tortilla filled with eggs, bacon, cheese, and potatoes, served with shredded potatoes and a small side salad. While everything was cooked properly, the ingredients felt simple, and the portion didn't match the price. I've had larger and more satisfying meals elsewhere for the same cost. My girlfriend ordered the birria tacos. They were decent but nothing memorable. We've had better birria at other restaurants. The consommé was much spicier than expected, and while some people may enjoy that, it wasn't our preference. The tortillas were also average. On the positive side, the lemonade was refreshing. I should also mention that Mexican food isn't usually my favorite cuisine, so I know my preferences may differ from those of other diners. Still, I always evaluate a restaurant based on the balance between quality, value, flavor, and the overall experience. In this case, I felt the food was good but not exceptional enough to justify the prices. La Condesa is definitely worth visiting if you're looking for a beautiful brunch spot with a trendy atmosphere. However, between the cramped seating, the value for the money, a few disappointing dishes, and feeling rushed at the end of the meal, the overall experience fell short of my expectations. I don't regret trying it, but it isn't a place I'd personally choose to revisit anytime soon.
