Last night, on my way home I was craving some ice cream. I was sitting at the light at the intersection of California/Sierra (Plumas) when it hit me ...I'm not going to the store. I'm going inside Black Rock Dessert to get a hand-packed pint of 'Deep Chocolate'. While I'm waiting for the pint to finish getting packed I notice they have egg nog ice cream called 'Just Nog'. #FunFact: I love egg nog so it was a no-brainer to ask for a scoop in a cup to-go. The moment I walked in the door at home, I turned on 'The Mandalorian' and dug into 'Just Nog'. It's safe to say that the scoop didn't last long. WOW. They hit another home run with that flavor. Black Rock Dessert is owned by the same person as IceCycle Creamery. Both businesses have superb customer service and unique flavors. Being new to Nevada, I realized the name was a play off of the Black Rock Desert, but didn't realize that is where Burning Man was hosted. The interior design has major Burning Man Vibes between the large mural, crazy color patterns, flamingo feathers in a cage art in the corner and many other art pieces inside the building. The temperature inside the building seems to be the opposite of the desert though! I recommend bringing a jacket which should be an obvious given it's an ice cream/shake place, but it didn't cross my mind. Deep chocolate is a go to flavor of mine when I'm not in the mood for some of the more unique options. The deep chocolate shake with malt did not disappoint! Next time I go I'd probably get a sundae to switch it up! read more

I got the cereal chiller it was a killer shake! Its made with fruit loops ice cream in a glass that was rimmed with marshmallow and topped with more DELicious fruity cereal!! There where kabobs of rice crispy treats and fruit loop marshmallow treats and one with rainbow sweat'n sour candy strips. I took one kabob togo as a hair piece! This place is a must see to believe! Attended a Yelp event here and it was yummmazing! The staff was super friendly and explained their menu and all the tasty samples we tried. My son ordered the Oreo milkshake because he couldn't resist the giant Oreo cookie. "This is the best shake I've ever had" was his comment. I managed to snag a taste and have to agree, it was the BEST milkshake ever. Highly recommend a visit to this wonderful little establishment! My youngest had to have some immunizations done. How do we treat those??? Ice cream of course! Black Rock Dessert did not let us down!!! The staff treated us with smiling eyes and voices the moment we walked in. I am not sure if they already have a lot of regulars and we just looked lost or they are this kind with everyone. The nice gentleman who was working walked us through all the flavors they had and offered us samples. Two of August's flavors were a Orange Soda and Rootbeer, and they were amazing. These were the two options my youngest picked for his Sunday, my oldest went with a banana split and I chose a Salted Dark Chocolate Lavender Shake. Mine was absolutely delicious!!!! I would have not thought of those 3 flavor profiles together, but 2 days later I am waking up craving it!!! We will be back for our special treat times. The price is a little more than say cold stone would be, but the quality is so much more. I do suggest you get the garbage fence treatment if you are getting a shake. OH MY GOODNESS! I just found this place and I'm in love! When we walked in we were immediately greeted and given the run down on what they had to offer, and boy were there options! We started with the pastry case filled with an assorted dessert tray, an apple pie (you can add ice cream or some crazy Martinelli's cider/ ice cream concoction), Cannoli's, mud pie and cream pies. On the other side was an array of cookies and skull pastries (super curious what crazy dessert they would make with a skull pastry-happy halloween!) In the middle of these two amazing cases of deliciousness was a plethora of ice cream choices, 4 of which change seasonally. This month (October) was all about the pumpkin and apple. I think there was even one with sriracha in it! I sampled the lavender chocolate and Reno 911 (coffee and donuts!) ice cream and ended up with a scoop of each in a waffle cone. This ice cream was so good and so creamy it left me fully satisfied. A wonderful first experience here. Cannot wait to get my inner fat child on, here, in the future! Not impressed and like other reviews, was expecting something spectacular. Got the McFurry which I thought was gonna be an Oreo sundae but it's literally just a chocolate milkshake with Oreo crumbs on the rim of the glass and a couple broken up on the whipped cream on top. The place is very filthy too! Had to ask for new spoon cuz one they gave me you could see fingerprints on it. Tables were a mess and take a look at the Jenga game pieces, disgusting!!! We came in for the Elite Yelp experience. The ice cream and service was fantastic!! The sampler came with vanilla, strawberry, and peanut butter ice cream with whipped cream, hard chocolate sauce, and peanut sprinkles. The mini trash fence came with buttered rum ice cream. Since it was an elite yelp event, the ice cream parlor chose the flavors. And, the sampler was already premade. Since it was loaded with a peanut, my son could not have it. He also was not able to choose the flavor of ice cream for his mini trash fence. This is why I gave them four out of five stars. With so many people allergic to peanuts these days, it seemed a little irresponsible to serve premade dishes with peanuts. Man, this dessert spot was worth every penny and warranted a second visit the next day! This is not your 31 flavors. Come prepared for flavor combinations that blow your mind and over the top presentation. I had some bread pudding caramel whiskey sauced ice cream thing that I swear was the best thing on the menu. Guided by its excellent reviews, I tried Black Rock Dessert yesterday. I ordered a chocolate sundae, two scoops of (house made) vanilla ice cream and their magic sauce, chocolate that hardens to provide a shell (or nest) for the ice cream. It was fabulous. The ice cream was a delicate vanilla and satisfying. I also had a muffin, to be eaten later. It was unique (in a very good way) crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. I love the name of this place. The owner is a Burner, someone who's been to Burning Man, an amazing event held during the week before and including Labor Day at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. There is a large photo of the Black Rock Desert dominating one wall. The man who served my friend and me was welcoming. The place has a FUN vibe with games available to play. I love all the fun and funky menu items that they offer but I was a little disappointed when we came in for a sweet treat being that they only had two dairy free options. I got the pina colada but it just tasted strongly of coconut milk and had an icy consistency. The shake my boyfriend got was sinfully delicious but extremely messy and they didn't offer napkins for our to go order. The space is really cool with a ton of art and stuff to look at but it had a really weird ambiance, probably from it being so empty due to covid. Overall I really love ice cycle ice cream and was excited for this new venture. But I wasn't blown away by anything. My best friend and I went to Black Rock Dessert a couple weeks ago. We ordered a Brownie Sunday to share. They were out out the strawberry sauce that went on it so substituted with another. The sundae was delicious, browning ooey gooey with the salted chocolate lavender ice cream. It was an amazing flavor combo, I couldn't get enough! After a 20 minute drive, got there and it was closed- even though their website said they were open from Noon to 10:00pm.
