Forget the outside it's the food that is the star here. The outside looks a little worn and wierd, the inside is dark and has a nautical theme. Could be updated. That's the bad if you call it that. The food and service is where this place shines. The Oysters Rockerfeller were large and very good, a little different than the norm. Fish chowder included was very good. Let's talk crab cakes and prime rib! I have had a ton of crab cakes growing up at the NJ shore and MD. These were the best I have ever had and loaded with real crab. Let me start with we were greeted immediately when we walked in. Then seated just as fast. Bryan our server was great and really made sure to take care of us. I told him that I do have a shell fish allergy, (I can still eat fish). I ordered the blackened grouper, and my husband had the spiny lobsters. Right after we ordered Bryan came back and let me know that the blackened is cooked with the shelled fish pan. I said thank you for letting me know and I ordered it grilled. That little detail of him taking the time to just be sure meant the world to me. Many place don't and I find out the hard way. Once the food arrived I was actually happy I had it grilled it was like butter tender and tasted so good. My husband loved the lobsters and the hush puppies were very flavorful and soft. The soup omg it was delicious. Delicious enough that we ordered 2 quarts to take home. Guess what's for lunch tomorrow. as you can see at the beginning of the meal we were given the cinnamon rolls and 2 dinner type rolls. I saved half of my cinnamon roll as dessert. I could only have one bite though and told my husband to eat the other half I loved all the ship decorations and the pictures that we had at our booth were very pretty. Underwhelmed. Blackbeards has been on our list to try for quite some time now. We arrived shortly after they opened for dinner. There was a good crowd of folks already there and seated. Server, Jack, came over promptly to take our drink orders and tell us a bit about the menu. We let him know we were there to celebrate a birthday and he was very personable. We started with a HH Yuengling ($3.50) and ordered a half dozen raw oysters ($12) Oysters were some of the biggest, plumpest ones we've seen in quite some time. Asked the server about the steaks. NY strip on the early bird menu ($33) looked appetizing but he steered me to the Filet ($41) as a better, less tougher cut of meat. Not that I didn't know this already but it was obvious he wasn't a fan of the NY Strip. As a matter of fact, he only eats the Prime Rib (which we knew going in that is what they are know for). The Mrs is a HUGH prime rib fan and we let Jack know she likes it really, really red and rare. Jack said that wouldn't be a problem and they'd cut it accordingly. Dinners come with bread, soup and salad which makes for a good deal. So the food came out and the prime rib was in no means red or rare. The picures are deceiving abd ut looks redder due to the lighting. But, in the picture where it's in the distance you'll notice how pink it is actually. Jack didn't ask so we didn't say anything. The Filet was good but not great and was cooked to the proper medium rare but again we weren't asked even though I cut into it while Jack was there. Nothing special from the restaurant in terms of birthday celebration. Although, a customer at an adjacent table overheard it was my birthday and belted out the birthday song for all to hear . The ambiance is something I absolutely loved. It was nicely decorated with miniature tall ships of all varieties and other seashore items. This place is known for their prime rib which looked delicious, we opted for the stuffed Salmon instead. While you can't really stuff Salmon, the nice-size portion of Salmon sat on top of a crab cake... Yummy! They also offer this smothered in cheese, which my friend got. This dinner came with salad and a bowl of fish soup along with rolls. You leave quite full or what I like to call, planned leftovers. I don't think a review is complete if you don't talk about the service, everyone from the hostess to the wait staff was nice and professional, I loved our waitress who was an absolute delight. Sunday evening and our party of 9 was hungry. Decided to go to Blackbeard's Inn around 6:30. The hostess was very friendly and let us know there would be a small wait because she needed to seat a party of 10 that came in before us. The wait was brief and we were quickly seated in a comfortable section. Our server, Bryan, was excellent! He did not get flustered with our needy table full of questions and requests. I am so impressed with how they handle allergies. We notified them of multiple allergies at the table and they took it very seriously. The manager, Shawn, came out to double check about allergies and clarify what was safe and not safe. One of the little ones was distraught to learn that the cinnamon rolls were not safe for his allergy and they noticed and arraigned for him to have an ice cream sundae after dinner. They give you so much food! With every meal you get fish chowder, salad, cinnamon rolls, hush puppy, and a buttered roll. You also get a side. Majority of the table order a version of the you pick two and enjoyed their selection and preparation. I got the salmon blackened and Rockefeller. It was a little spicy but really good. I thought this place was very good! First of all, it is VERY popular, so expect a wait. We got there probably 5pm for an early dinner and had a 25 minute wait. I never saw it not have a wait the whole time we were there- always filling new tables. All entrees come with a lot! Soup (has pork in it so couldn't try), side salad, rolls & cinnamon rolls, and a side. We shared a fried mushroom appetizer which was tasty and came with a horseradish dip. I ordered the early bird prime rib, which is 10 ounces and was decently lean- lots of meat! It was really delicious and flavored well. For what you get, the prices generally are not terrible. My son ordered the grilled salmon. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter with a cluster of snow crab legs for 45. I ordered the crab (1.5 lbs). Everything was cooked well and tasted fine. My issue is the amount of crab I got for 52 dollars. Typically, I order one pound and it ends up being 2-3 clusters. This was supposed to be 1.5 lbs and I was only given 2 clusters. I get that it's supposedly weighed but I can't help but feel like they definitely shorted me. I feel like the scale must have said 1.2 lbs and they were just like,"Meh, good enough!" I would have been better off (and more full) ordering the broiled seafood combo with snow crab for $45 and getting what they claim is .75 lbs of crab with my order. Our server was alright. I wouldn't say she was overly nice but she wasn't necessarily rude either. There were a few times when I was trying to ask a question and she'd just turn around and leave. Had a NY Strip tonight. Cooked perfectly, medium. The baked potato was really good also. Came in on a busy Friday night and our party or 3 waited about 25mins for a table. The place was packed so I think the wait time was more than reasonable. As soon as we were seated our waiter Sean approached us and took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. While we were perusing a young man dropped off warm rolls and cinnamon rolls for the table. When Sean returned we placed or order and it was out to us in about 20mins. My wife had the filet which was cooked to a perfect medium for her, and I went with the prime rib medium rare. At Blackbeard's it's always prime rib for me. Some of the best you'll find anywhere and I've had it all over this great country. My son got the kids cheeseburger and fries and loved it. Old-school type seafood house with a very old-school (and fun!) atmosphere: think wood paneling, lots of statues of sea captains, models of sailing ships, and other nautical decor, dark and a bit cluttered but more in a welcoming than oppressive way. If you walked into this restaurant when empty with no modern fashions or haircuts to betray the current year, you could easily imagine it was 1980--perhaps before. But that's a lot of the charm here. And a lot--perhaps the majority--of patrons seem of the older set plus the restaurant wisely offers early bird specials targeting their senior citizen customers. Our waiter was very nice--I forget his name, but he did a good job. The menu is mostly a vast variety of fried and broiled and stuffed seafood but the restaurant apparently is well-known for its prime rib, as well. We had fried shrimp and fried flounder and dinners come with . . . well, an awful lot of stuff. You get a salad, a basket of bread including their homemade cinnamon buns, Manhattan-style clam chowder, plus a veggie side or rice with the seafood itself and hushpuppies. Yes, all that. It's enormous and incredible. Highlights were the shrimp (large and tasted very fresh), the bread and orange honey butter, and my rice was pretty good. The hushpuppies were dry and overcooked and cinnamon bun was just ok and seemed a weird thing to include for a dinner plate. I've been to Blackbeard's many times over the years and have always had a great meal with stellar service. We always try to arrive before happy hour is over (until 7:00pm daily) and while they are offering the Early Bird Menu (until 6:00pm daily). Note that Blackbeard's is a local hot spot, so tables fill up quick. Many times, the lot is full, and there is a wait to be seated right when they open (4:00pm daily) especially on the weekends. Jimmy is our favorite server; he has been here forever, and always takes good care of us. We usually order the fried or broiled seafood combination ($21.99), which comes with fish, shrimp/scallop skewer, a petite crab cake, hush puppy, choice of potato/fries/rice/broccoli, soup & salad, hot rolls, and fresh baked cinnamon roll with whipped butter. On this visit, I upgraded my meal from broiled to blackened ($2 upgrade). The majority of our meal was excellent; unfortunately, the hush puppy was lukewarm and a bit dried out. My two Amber Bock's were icy cold ($6 each) and the soup, salad, and bread were all fresh and delicious. Walking into Blackbeard's is like a blast from the past, it has a rich history and nostalgia that cannot be matched; however, I would really like to see the owners upgrade some of the furniture. We had to move twice to find a more comfortable seating area in the dining room. The first table had so many customers/staff passing behind us, it was distracting. We switched to a booth, but the back was so straight (rigid) and the base of the bench was so short, that we felt like we were sitting at a kiddy table. Finally, we were able to move to a different booth with slightly better back and booty support. If you are in the New Smyrna Beach area, I highly recommend dining at Blackbeard's. I wish I could say it's the perfect place to eat, but it's got some imperfections. Regardless; in my experience, the service has always been on-point and the food consistently great. read more

On Sunday January 25 2026 we had a long day of fishing so we decided to try this restaurant. We were sat right away. The sever was immediately at the table giving menues and asking about drinks. She was very friendly. I got a long island ice tea it was pretty good the waitress also brought out two very cold waters which was very refreshing from being out in the sun all day. We ordered an appetizer of a lb of peel n eat shrimp before that came out we were given soup salad bread and cinnamon rolls all very good I have never tried fish soup before and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were very good cooked well and very big size. We ordered the hooks fries platter and the hooks boiled platter. Everything was so good and the dinner came with a choice of sides I got the potatoes and he got the fries both very good. The whole experience was great the waitress came and took care of things very quickly and so did the bussers as they passed the table. I would definitely recommend this place very good environment. DH and I love steakhouses so we decided to try this restaurant. We had read so much about their prime rib and other steaks we decided to arrive early and we are SO glad we did!! They open at 4, we were early. They let us in and seated us right away. They are famous for going on a wait every weekend night. Our server was great! Attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. I ordered the prime rib 12 oz, fried shrimp and the baked potato. DH ordered the New York Steak and baked potato. This looked like a complete tourist restaurant, but it was very good. The staff are efficient in seating you and our server was excellent. He had worked there for 22 years and was superb. I wanted to go up to Flagler Beach to High Tides for crab legs, but was afraid we would make it since we were staying in the New Smyrna Beach area this year. So, I settled on getting crab legs here. They came very well cooked and were delicious. My husband had a create-your-own combo that included fried fish, fried clam strips and something else I can't remember (maybe shrimp or scallops). He loved the fish and clam strips (the other, not so much). The complimentary food items or included with you meal; rolls, cinnamon roll, salad, and soup were all fine, nothing special, but I'm sure people think the more food included with their meal, the better. Our entrees were the Captain Hook's Combination (crab legs, shrimp, crab cake, scallops and haddock) and the Fried Shrimp dinner. Out of the 5 items on the Captain Hook's entree, only the crab cake and crab legs had good flavor and were cooked properly, the other items were overcooked and did not have very good flavor.
