We stopped at this Bistro after not eating g here for years. I'd recalled the food was really great (if not at a slightly higher price point) many years ago. If we thought we'd get anywhere near the quality and expedience of service from yesteryear, I was sadly mistaken. Indeed after the following, we simply walked out: 1. The waitress took excessively long to even bring menus and water 2. We watched as an employee brought ready to eat fruit in to the restaurant from the trunk of his car. Notwithstanding that this is a violation of safe handling procedures, it's also highly unhygienic to transport strawberries for a restaurant customer in the trunk with e.g., your kids' sports clothes and a spare tire. It's my first time back under the new ownership, and I absolutely loved it. Park Avenue is in a very nice and quiet neighborhood where you can truly relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or breakfast. This place is insane. Not just your classic breakfast fare, but like, actually a ton of interesting options that I had never seen before and actually made me excited to eat here!! I can't recall the last time that has happened. I ordered the potato pancakes with homemade apple sauce, and while I was eating I kept remembering what it was like to be a child again, I kept feeling safe, and protected. Wow!!! I had the tilapia sandwich with fries. It was amazing with a little lemon, seasoned with pepper and perfectly cooked. The bread was just the right crust with a crunch but soft in the middle. Service was excellent. I was the only one in there (should have been a sign). I ordered the Chai latte, which came in a small bowl and was very good! The food portions were just right. Ordered the down south which came with runny, cold undercooked grits, country fried potatoes, which were OK two slices of bacon, which was OK a small, cold biscuit which did not taste good and eggs. I ordered a orange juice to try to make it taste better did not help because the orange juice tasted old and like they try to add carbonation to take away from it being old. My daughter's friend insisted that this place makes the best French toast she's ever had, but I guess the mistake was mine in trusting the food advice of a 12 year old vegetarian. She really needs to try more French toast, it seems. It was small, pedestrian, and a little burnt; the "crispy" potato pancakes were also a bit burnt but paradoxically not crispy; and the bread pudding wasn't great either. The food is so delicious here! It's a brunch and lunch place during the day and for dinner it's a Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant. It's a little confusing because they use the same restaurant name. Back to the food! Whenever I'm under the weather I always order the veggie lentil and spinach soup because it's so delicious and comforting. If you haven't had their food before I would recommend the sampler. My fave so far is the Bersin. Usually the injera (spongy bread) is too sour for me but they make it perfect here. This place has started making Eritrean food at night (very similar to Ethiopian food I've had) and it is really good! I've been twice now, the first time I got the veggie sampler and the second time I got the bersin (lentils cooked in sauce). All the food comes with the African style bread you eat food from this region with. Both times I've just really enjoyed it. It's flavorful and there are large servings. I think they do themselves a disservice by flying so under the radar with the African dinner food. In any case, I highly recommend trying this spot! read more

Note: some of the lower ratings are from people who knew the excellence of blackberry bistro years ago before changes. I am bias because I knew what it was and now am disappointed by how it's turned out to be. Blackberry bistro has been a family favorite for years, but it seems like things have changed. The service is typically good, but it's been slow lately. We come earlier in the mornings, thinking it would be faster because not many people will be in for breakfast but it takes them a long time to get our orders from when they initially seat us, and when we are done, they are slow to bring us our check (we wait at least 15-20 min after we've finished our meals) I think they are training some staff (or that's what it looks like) but the server who sat us was hanging by the corner drinking a coffee. We ended up flagging someone else down to help us. The food is good, and I recommend the crepe Suzette or any of their omelette dishes. We have gotten prawns (which are actually smaller shrimp) and grits for years, but I think they've changed some things. It now only comes with 4 shrimp, the sauce is pretty watery and the onions aren't cooked all the way through. Overall it was kind of a bummer, since we really look forward to coming here as a tradition every couple of weeks but it's overpriced for what they give now :( read more
